Anyway to get HTC Desk Clock to not time out? - Hero CDMA General

If you click on your clock widget it will open HTC Desk Clock. You can then put your phone on your desk and it'll act just like a desk clock. Problem is, I think the HTC programers screwed up because after about 20 seconds it times out and your screen turns off. When you wake up the phone again you're back at your lock screen. That kind of defeats the purpose of having a desk clock, which should constantly show the time.
Does anyone know if this is something the devs could fix?
PS: Sorry if I'm not explaining this very well...try it and you'll see what I mean.

It could be done. I've no actual experience doing it, but there are apps that prevent the phone from sleeping.
Otherwise, you could just turn off the screen timeout altogether, or there's an option in settings>apps>development to turn off auto-timeout only when the USB cable is plugged in..
Just my two cents.

Or you could just go buy a desk clock.... I hear they are pretty cheap.

Yes and you could buy an ordinary phone but wouldnt both defeat the purpose?

If you plug the phone in and turn on the desk clock, it'll stay on. The time jumps to a different place on the screen every minute or so.
I guess the whole desk clock function was intended to be used with a charger base, so you can actually see the screen.

I think it behaves the same with the night time clock too.

Backlight coming on for no reason whilst on charge

I've got my backlight set to turn off after 5 minutes when on external power, 3 minutes when on battery. I have recently got a new battery but that's not relevant since this happened with the old one too.
When the device is charging via USB it frequently turns the backlight on by itself. I do have activesync running but I don't actually sync anything. It happens at least once every 20 minutes, so it gets annoying overnight.
Can anyone think why this is? I don't have the computer interacting with it, nor do I touch it at all...
It could be ActiveSync being the annoying little M$ thing it is... it will run itself automatically (why M$ feel this is appropriate is anyone's guess) thus making your device think that it's in use.
That's my 2 cents, seems logical. I always close the lid when on charge as the same happens and I'm worried it'll burn out the screen.
Really sorry for the double post... I pay for a 10mb connection and most of the time I'll be lucky to get 60k and their best solution is for me to downgrade!!!! This country sucks a$$!!!! Moving to BT

[Q] Turn off Omnia 7 when charging

I noticed that the phone turns the moment the charger is connected to it (or if the USB cable is attached from a PC that is on). There doesn't seem to be a way to charge the phone with it switched off.
Do the others notice the same behaviour or is this a problem with my Omnia? Is there a way to disable this?
Yeah I have the same thing you cannot charge it while it is turned off. This is true from all the iPhones I have used aswell. It isn't a fault don't worry about it.
I don't know if it can be disabled but why would you want to out of interest?
I tend to charge the phone at night and don't want to receive calls.....

Flightmode is your friend
Settings -> Flightmode on
That cuts all wireless connections, you won't receive calls or SMS at night.
Noticed this too, my phone also reboots when I connect it to a charger too - anyone else had that happen?
With some reading i;ve been doing, *only recently started reading up about li-ion bats* seems they might be on to gain optimal charge / long life at the right voltage.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
might be why...
I'm doing more research into it. But another reason i can think of is, When it's on. Boot up time isn't there. Flight mode is. I use it rather than turning a phone off now, saves turning on the other end, i can play a game, watch a video, listen to music on the plane and charge it on a socket ready for the other end.
Yes, i noticed this issue also... as i remember, in a small book that came with my phone there is written you can charge you phone when its switched off - it will charge faster.. but theres not written how never mind, its like that, and thats the way it is...
Oh this would be bad. I charge my phone at nights too, and have it next to my bed. If the screen would be on it would be too bright to sleep with (I'm a very light sleeper). Hmm...

No, the screen won't be on
The screen turns off after a minute or you can press the standby button manually.
It's just that you can't switch off the phone completely when it is connected to a charger.

Maybe it's some kind of power management that the OS is doing therefore it needs to be on.
Battery life is great on WP7 after all.
It's confirmed by pocketnow.com
the WP7 OS doesn't allow you to charge while the phone is off

[Q] Strange Issue, Need Help

I had a fully rooted evo, themed, etc. So I am a noob to the Epic but not android or working with app's etc. I did a search of the forum and I did not see anything that related to the exact issue I am having.
All of a sudden, about an hour ago, my phone just started telling me my battery is at 0%, I did a battery pull and it put me at like 80% (which makes sense, I charged it all night). I have it plugged into my work computer at the moment to give it some "juice" but even that is not allowing my phone to turn on for more than the boot screen loading up to homescreen, then immediately powering off.
I have not downloaded anything new on my phone, I have not attempted to root this phone, nothing special at all.
A couple of times when it HAS come to the homescreen those few seconds, there is a strange dark grey rectangle on my screen and it says "relaunch me" with an emoticon above it (in the box but above the words).
I think that may be a widget alert for my digital time widget but I can't say for sure.
So out of this long-winded explanation I'm basically trying to figure out wth made my battery just give out? And even charging it is not helping.
No I have not dropped it nor dropped anything on it either.
I would try another battery. Maybe it's a bad battery. Go to sprint and ask them to try another battery. I don't know why your battery would do that. Good luck
I had this issue!

I had this same problem, I went to sprint and they swapped out battery, charger, and cable and all is well now! been working fine ever since....
I believe I caused the issue through odining a bunch of times and unplugging and replugging! but my phone would give me a yellow exclamation mark! and say something like can't charge battery!
Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the Sprint store. I just tried another Samsung cable for my sisters epic 4g to make sure and it's doing same thing. Thank you for the responses.
*fingers crossed*
If you are still by your sister, try her battery. That will eliminate another possible item (you might also try your battery in her Epic)
George
I had similar issues and had to get a replacement (under warranty). I think it was one of the copper battery connectors coming lose (on the phone side) it was sticking out noticeably compared to the other one. It eventually wouldn't turn on at all, plugged in or not. I'd back up what you can and go visit Mr. Sprint.
My Epic has the same problem... it would just turn off. Now the screen won't turn back on after timing out while charging, i have to unplug it then hit the power button multiple times.

Turned off by turn on!

A couple of weeks ago I came home from work and picked up the case my Samsung 10.1 tab was in. Curiously, it felt warm to the touch. When I took my tab out of the case, it was on! Now, I know I turned it off before I placed it in the case. How could it have turned on by itself? And aren't these things supposed to turn themselves off after awhile?
Today, I had my SGTab plugged in to charge for several hours. It was turned off. A couple of minutes ago I was sitting at my computer when I heard a familiar beep. I turned around to where I had my tab plugged in, and much to my surprise it had turned itself on. I noticed that the battery now read 100%. Usually when I unplug my tab it is at 98 or 99% charged. Is is supposed to beep and come on automatically when it reaches 100% charge?
Has anybody else experienced this?
You probably just have a tech-ghost that likes to mess with you. Just ignore it and it will eventually get bored and go elsewhere.
Seriously though, no. That is odd.
Mine turns itself on as well.
I mentioned this in another thread that I started, but mine seems to think USB items are being connected frequently, even when it is not plugged in, or when it is plugged in to power.
If I ever try to power it off, it defiantly powers back on seconds later.
Keep your tab handy and watch to see if the USB connected item shows up in your notifications or if the battery with a red X symbol shows up.
It will turn on to notify you that it is at 100% charge. Mine turns back off after a bit.

Sorry, I didn't mean it was completely turned off; it was in sleep mode. I never turn it "off."
It happens to mine, and I notice that it takes place when charger is plugged in, and power gets cut for some reason.
I read elsewhere that it's supposed to give a sound when it gets 100% full. Mine only vibrates, is that normal?

That could be it, then.
Mine was doing something similar: plug in power connector, tab buzzes, press power button once to put tab to sleep, put down to charge....... come back next morning and tab screen is on.
This is what "fixed it for me": disable the "keep screen on when charging" in the developer options.
As already mentioned, the Tab will turn the screen on when it reaches 100% charge to tell you to remove the charger from the wall socket. If you have the Tab set to keep the screen on when charging, the screen will never turn off again at this point.
As I say, that fixed it for me, but as usual YMMV

Nexus 4 Wireless Charging Orb toggle charging problem

Anyone else experience this? Look at the battery meter widget in the upper right corner. It will go from green (not charging) to blue (charging).
When this happens if I unplug the orb and plug that same cable into the phone it charges normally. This is my second orb that has done this.
Nobody?
Sorry, not a single issue with my charging orb.

No issues here either. When looking at your batt icon in the status bar, does that change as well? Or does it continually say charging?

The stock battery icon changes too. It's just easier to spot the widget.
Your phone looks a bit low in the vid. Does the problem happen if you raise the phone up a bit on the orb? And is your N4 have a case or screen protector on the back? Unsure if there is a slippage problem or not.
I do not have the slipping problem and it happens even if I reposition the phone.

I gots nothin, sorry man. Not sure why.
no problem with my orb, and it charges through wood:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2196541
Nice! I actually envisioned doing that exact thing!
Right now my phone is sitting there at 87%, says it's charging, yet the battery is going down. It is also very hot to the touch. This is my second orb though. I wonder if the problem is with the phone.
Mine sometimes does this, I will hear it toggling off and on and such. Seems to not work with the bumper on it. Makes it not fully contact.
Mine also does this where it will connect and disconnect in a loop constantly repeating. I think it had to do with how i was placing the phone as it doesnt happen anymore.

It's probably still happening and you don't realize it. On mine the positioning of the phone does not change anything.

Maybe the problem is your phone, not the orb. My orb works like magic, the phone does not heat up and it charges just as fast as when plugged with the cable. Also, I use a quite thick TPU case, without any issue.
Mine has done that before (toggle on and off), but it seems to be okay lately. Only issue is that it gets pretty warm and seems to charge ridiculously slow.

I am having this identical problem. I got both the Nexus 4 and the Orb replaced, and my new ones are doing the same exact thing. Usually turning off the phone and turning it back on fixes it for some reason, temporarily though.
Mine does the same thing. Almost every morning I wake up and it's at 90% or below. No slippage at all. A few times it has been almost dead. Sometimes it charges completely but rarely. Restarts don't really do anything either.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Apparently not a small issue. Happened to me as well, multiple times, on 2 separate orbs. Waiting for the refund on the first before I send back the second. Wondering at what point they say enough is enough and give me my money back. Battery Monitor Widget screenshots attached. From 5% to 95%, it was in the same place on the charger. No slippage. It is in a case, but it should still be consistent, I would think. The day before, the second screenshot, was abysmal. 30% in 8 hours. It boggles the mind.
