Hi All,
Just wondering if any of you could offer your insights and knowledge of unlocking software where your pc is hooked up to your phone. Are there any risks to your phone if you use this, e.g. applications don't work, etc.? I have a Tmobile Mytouch 3G (latest version with 3.5mm jack).
Thanks in advance.
here's a reply i got on another forum, "Your risks are almost zero to the phone. Just make sure if you download any software to your computer, that you scan it for viruses first, and obviously make sure it's for the right model of phone, but you seem to have a handle on that, since you recognize the difference between the two versions "
any other opinions still appreciated.
If you dont mind me asking, where did you get this unlocking software from?

www.gsmliberty.net they'll do the online database search for you first using 2 different methods before they offer this software method of unlocking. pretty nice company in terms of customer service...friendly and you can contact them by email, live chat, and phone.
how does it work?

Just checked it out, about 25$US to unlock, not a terrible price. And honestly, it's a much more professional looking company than anything I've seen myself, so I might be using this as well...

Hi all,
I recently bought a samsung focus through ebay but the phone was stuck in demo mode and I wanted to get rid of the demo.
What I have done is: I flashed the phone with the XENJK1 rom for omnia 7.
now the phone works perfect except these problems:
"down" volume button increases the volume instead of decreasing it.
"up" volume button does not do anything at all.
back button sometimes does not work
start button is not working at all
the accelerometer orientation of the screen is opposite than it should be!
any one got any idea how to fix these?! please!
Sounds very much like flashing i9000 Galaxy ROM to AT&T Captivate. The hardware of these two phones are slightlydifferent. There is no way unless you can hack the ROM to fix those issues. On Captivate (Android), ppl needs to mod the ROM (called re-orientation) before apply to the phone. Hope you're good at modding WP7 ROMs.
I have no experience in hacking wp7 roms but I will give it a shot if you could tell me what tools I need for it.
I don't know how to either. I don't believe anyone knows how to (check the Focus Dev forum and you will see). So, basically means you're SOL.
FYI: demo mode = stolen AT&T display phone.

Many people spent $200 at least to get demo mode focus but had no idea of demo mode. Don't tell me they should return their phone to AT&T.

yes and that was their stupidity.... ebay... id returned it and gave the seller horrible feedback plus reported it to ebay as stolen... craigslist...their stupidity of not making a call with it before you bought it period..... and as for they should return it... well if it ever by chance got caught by at&t...they could and i guarantee would prosecute... it is stolen property... im no goody goody but i wouldnt chance my reputation over a freakin cell phone... i mean if someone stole your phone wouldnt you want it back? someone walks through my door and says i found this or i got this from someone and saw your info in it ...id give them the benefit... if i found it in someone's posession and it was mine...im prosecuting to the fullest extent... plus this is federal... its a fcc licensed device.... so stupidity is no excuse for keeping something you either knew when you bought it was stolen or just found out and said well i paid 200 for it its mine... sorry its the property of at&t... hope you go to jail... over a cell phone.. that would be embarrassing...
ps who knows at&t might give you a reward...

In many places, buying a stolen good is illegal as well. I have no sympathy for those who purchase stolen goods, knowingly or not.

I haven't realised that it was stolen obviously since now! I also requested a full refund. any other suggestions what I should do?

You guys totally went off track on what the op was asking and gave him no useful advice, he didn't ask for your sympathy, he asked about what to do. The commentor about I hope you get prosecuted blah blah blah, you have no clue about law and it is not a federal offense because it is FCC approved, car radios, iPods and all electronics that have radios or receive signals are FCC approved and are not federal offenses if you are in possession of them if they are stolen, go back to law school. In regards to editing the rom, good luck at this point wait for the update and flash with Odin. Now that's a Canadian answer some advice on his question, not some ignorant American answer about guns, laws and whatever else you guys could throw in.
I like the guys anamocity towards anyone talking about the demo mode phones. I buy and flip phones on ebay and craigslist, have gotten demo mode phones before, and am offended that you would go so far as to insult anyone for making the mistake of buying one. You do not have to flame to express your strict opinion of the law and what one should do with something they spent lots of money on. Just my two cents kawgi.
What a gem!

Does the Zune software see your device as a Focus or Omnia 7? If there's a registry key that identifies your device that can be changed, you might be able to get the next Focus ROM flashed on your phone through the update process.
At least your phone works. That's a far better situation than most people conned into buying demo phones.
zune recognise it as OMNIA 7 unfortunately.. and I don't have the required software knowledge to mess into the registry so I have the phone dusting in my office..
Worth trying

Actually, it may be a good thing.
It might be worth trying to find a reg key that can be changed to identify your device to Zune as a Focus. Assuming the Nodo update is a complete flash followed by a sync (which I believe it is, though, I'm not certain) you may be able to get the Nodo update for the Focus.
Probably a long shot, but not too much work and nothing to lose?
I will give it a try then.. but I doubt that the nodo update is a complete flash so even if I manage to make zune recognise my phone as a Focus (still no idea how to do that) it won't do a thing..
This is funny as hell, I suppose you guys have never used a copy of Microsoft Windows as well, right? some friend gave it to you (maybe even a relative), Gosh I sure hope you ratted on your sister for that copy of Windows!
This is the problem with America today, its turning into a society of rats! You cant even have cheats on console games anymore , you can have achievements ,whoopty do , not the same thing , I suppose if you open the xbox ,the FBI will be searching for you! Yes this topic got way off base!
Good luck finding a rom for your phone!

That would be why folks are coming down on this thread about using a Focus that was in "DEMO" mode.
I am no expert at phone hacks and such, but it seems completely logical that you could perform some things in diagnostic mode + registry changes to fix all of these problems. Just dig to find and learn how to do these and i believe you can do it.
We fired an employee yesterday, and when he returned his phone we discovered that it is pattern-locked. I need to get around the lock to see if he has any important company data stored on his phone...
Is there any way to do this on the Shift?
Factory wipe would get rid of anything on his phone, try sliding the keyboard open to wake the phone, I know sometimes that got around the pattern lock back on my moment, never used the pattern lock on this phone, sorry.

Well first off, any important data would be stored on the SD card.
Doing a factory wipe would wipe what is on the phone, not the SD card. Nothing would really be on the phone though unless you want to dig around in his text messages.
Actually, I DO want to dig around in his text messages. I work for an IT consulting firm, and I need to know if he was communicating to clients via text.

You might have to contact Sprint for a record of those. I don't know of any way to get around the pattern lock.
If he enabled USB debugging, you will be able to get at a lot of stuff with adb... including the text message database.

Just call the guy you fired and ask him for the password. Sounds to me like the simple and adult solution. Who cares if his feeling are hurt or it will be awkward, its like turning in the office keys when you leave.
+1 Could've been a simple oversight on his part.

Actually, judging how many combinations you can do with the pattern lock, it would take a quite while to figure out the right combination since there's literally thousands of doable combinations that have to be done manually (afaik) not automated by a script. It isn't ironic at all. Why waste the time? I wouldn't want to bang my head against a wall when the solution is a simple phone call away. And I've been doing IT as long as you have.

I wasn't talking about the validity of the question at all. It's a great question.. since nobody seems to know the answer I would just suggest taking out the battery and seeing if you can boot into recovery and mounting it via USB if USB debugging is enabled and/or messing with ADB on the phone..
Also, why is this company giving their employees Android phones and not Blackberries? Blackberries can be controlled via BES. Maybe it's just a husband trying to hack his wife's phone?

My last job was using Droid Incredibles. Android phones can be controlled via Exchange ActiveSync security policies. I personally did it at my last job to **** with this guy that was an annoying asshole. Made it so he had to enter his AD password whenever he wanted to unlock his phone and I'd data wipe his phone weekly. He'd ask me about it and I'd tell him it's security policy. I had him convinced that everyone was having the same thing done when they weren't.
Honestly: If I knew the answer I wouldn't tell you. Bypassing someone's security is not the kind of information you should be able to get from XDA.

You don't think the whole story is fishy? The way I see it, he has two obvious options:
1. Call the employee. Ask for the pattern.
2. If he refuses, call the cops.
The fact that he is not doing either of these indicates that he does not have a legitimate reason for wanting the info.

Greetings!
I have ran out of options and finally decided to take this step, not really sure if it will work but still hoping though that it will. I have come here to ask for help from developers and people with great knowledge in these things. Here is my situation. My friend bought a gmate+ device abroad as a gift for me here in Philippines and unfortunately, this device can only be used in the country it was bought in. After reading things in the manufacturer's site and contacting them (they have a very not-so-satisfying customer service, sorry to mention this), it seems that there really is no cure for my case unless I have it ship back and ask for refund then buy a new one here instead, which is also almost impossible because I do not have the receipt(the item was just given to me without any receipt) and I do not know exactly from which store my friend purchase it(and according to him, he is also unsure from which store exactly because he went shopping for things as gifts not in just a single store or place). So to make the story short, I now have a useless piece of device which could have been really great for my Nexus 7 if only it works. The gmate+ is a device sold by the company Skyroam. This is a bluetooth device which allows an Android or iOS running gadget to have the ability to use GSM service through it via bluetooth pairing and software. I do not know if it is really hard, but I'm thinking ( actually hoping and praying ) that maybe somebody here could do something about my case, perhaps build a workaround via a software. I would really appreciate it if anybody would take time to work on this project. Additional info which may help, if anybody's interested, I'm running the stock update Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 (2012).
Thanks and more power!

You might need another firmware for the gmate+.
Or someone has to rewrite the Android app.
But to me it seems as if it it needed another firmware.

This is what I'm hoping somebody here could.
The manufacturer's site is up and it has details about the product as well, so the developer could know better about it. I have also found similar gadgets online. They are mostly products that are manufactured in China and have outdated softwares.

I believe that since it's a demo unit you're not going to be able to use it. Except for wifi and bluetooth of course.
An IMEI is kinda important.

Because if it was sold to you from someone then a reward might be available for the apprehension of the person that had stolen it and you would have valuable information.
Also, it is against forum rules to assist anyone in unlocking or tampering with an IMEI an any way especially for a stolen device. Since it appears to be that way, you're on your own. So good luck!

Certain stores sell these out if it's excessively supplied by Samsung. It's supplied by samsung on an entirely free no-agreement basis, since they are not expected to survive after the device reaches EOL (LED Burn-in, Customer Damages.. etc).
So the OP may not have necessarily stolen it, but may have obtained it in a clearance sale.
And of course, No. There is no reward involved as the device itself is designed without an IMEI so that the general public may not get to use it.
As all ready posted if it's a demo unit then basically all you have and will have is a wifi tablet. There is no IMEI number for the device and any attempt to use a different one is illegal. Really hope you weren't ripped off with it but as IMEI changing is illegal I will have to close the thread

I may be a bit biased because I've rootedand customized phones since the D1, when it was MUCH harder than it it currently. But I have always found ODIN very easy to use. In reality, I'm sure the OP could look up a video on youtube on how to use ODIN and get his phone working in like 20 min (minus download/setup times for ODIN, ROM, etc.). And I'm sure he saved a bundle buying it like that. He just needs to pray it's not IMEI locked on top of it, or all that effort will have been wasted
