I have searched through many posts and cannot seem to find many others with the same issues. I unlocked my TMobile US HD2 and have been using it on ATT. Now, I understand the 3g connection problem and how you're limited to Edge, but what I do not understand is that in the Band selector, there is the option for 1900/850. Isn't 850 ATT US's operating frequency for 3G? If so, why shouldn't this phone be able to connect?
you have the data bands and voice bands mixed up
its a quad band phone, for voice, but doesn't support all of atts data bands , only tmobiles , therefore, you get to use edge only on att, not 3g
know what i sayin?
Yeah. Makes sense. Explains why it doesn't say UMTS 850. Lol.
Thanks!

I have been using the Touch Dual here in the US for a few months, and love it. I need to switch carriers. Will the Touch Dual work on the Sprint network in the US? What other carriers will work?
Thanks.
GSM networks only, so your only option is AT&T.

T-Mobile and AT&T are the only GSM carriers in the US. I don't know if Boost Mobile is or not.
I just picked a phone up unlocked on ebay and am using it on the AT&T network, only issue i've learnt of just now is AT&T uses a different band for the 3g than the touch dual does so i only recieve edge no 3g since its a different band, from what i've been told tmobile is offering it on the same band.

ATT operates on both 850 and 1900 bands. I had my niki working on it until I recently switched to TMobile. You're SOL if the ATT signal in your area is 850 because the Niki doesn't support it. TMobile doesn't us the 850 band so you would be better switching to them. I get a much stronger signal with them.

Niki doesn't support 1900 for 3g either though, how were you getting 3g if you don't mind me asking, maybe you have one of the Australia Versions? Probably gonna have to take your advice on switching, just on such a good rate plan only paying 24.99 for unlimited internet, hopefully a radio patch can help us soon or maybe AT&T and T-Mobile will share towers i know its been discussed between the companies in the past to help increase coverage (usually leads to merger though so i doubt it'll happen with such large corporations)
Anyone here have the galaxy s 9000 euro version working with tmobile 3 g in usa?
I'm also interested in that. I'm about to buy a galaxy here in EU but I'm moving to california soon. There should be no issues however since the galaxy is a quad band phone
I looked into importing a HTC Desire from Tmo UK for use here on Tmo's US network -
Tmo europe uses 2100 band for 3g, Tmo US uses the AWS IV band (1700/2100) for 3G - i did a little more research and found that 2100 was the download side and 1700 for upload - and as Tmo here in the US told me my Tmo MyTouch 3G would work fine in europe, i figured i'd be good to go - maybe only have 3G speeds on the download side
got hold of a 2nd level tech at Tmo and he 'xplained it down't work that way - if the Tmo US network doesn't see both freqs (1700 & 2100) it will switch me to 2G data speeds
so answer is, it'll work for phone calls, but data speeds will be limited to 2G

I can confirm, I did a lot of digging myself and found the same thing. I'm from the UK but living in the US for a year or so. I was going to get a Galaxy S from ebay but realised they didn't have the 1700 freq so wouldn't get 3g with T-mobile over here ion the US.
My Iphone 3g from the UK only gets edge data transfer speeds here in the US as it too is missing the important 1700 freq...

thank you guys then it's good to know the vibrant is out next week

Finally figured this out too after posting questions in different places. Found this article which had a very detail explaination.

One thing I'm wondering is if it is possible to flash the android radio version from a Vibrant on to an international Galaxy S to enable Tmobile AWS?
that question is best answered by someone far more knowledgeable than i am in software and android OS
i want 3g
I just recently bought the unlocked galaxy s to use for when I study abroad in Germany in the coming months. However, I am experiencing the very issue raised in this thread and have been searching high and low to find a solution to change the radio frequency to include both 1700 and 2100. Hopefully, flashing the firmware from the vibrant to the unlocked galaxy s will work, but I'm not experienced enough to even know where to start.
Can anyone confirm if these bands will work of AT&T? I found an unlocked HD2 with these bands, and bands for AUS, and need to know if they will allow this HD2 to use the 3G data service of AT&T.
GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz|HSDPA 900/2100MHz, 850/2100MHz (Australia)
This is what the overview says in the features list:
3G speed
Offers quick and easy connection speeds.
Operates on quad-band GSM/HSDPA wireless networks
For reliable wireless communication.
I don't think so because if I recall ATT needs 850/1900 for 3G.
It does look like it will work on tmobile 3G though.

That would be a good reason to return it then. It's advertised as working on all data networks and has a quad band HSDPA radio in it. If I can't get it to work on AT&T, I will return it for a refund.
Thanks for the reply, by the way.

"working on all data networks" is correct, but not 3G. Any unlocked phone works on all data networks, but not all UMTS/HSPA networks. The quad band aspect of it is because it apparently works in Aussie and Tmobile, but from what I see there not on ATT
Hi,
Forgive me if this has been asked before but i did search and couldn't find anything that i was looking for..
so, I'm planning on buying a verizon LTE tab (4g + wifi) and i was wondering would it be possible to use it on a 3g network? The verizon rep i talked to said that yes this was possible but i'm not sure they knew what they were talking about.
Also, does it need to be unlocked to run on another network or does it come carrier unlocked? if yes, is that currently possible? because i asked verizon and they flat out said no..
Thanks and apologies again if i missed any threads related to these issues.
nevermind, got all the answers i needed
while LTE is backwards compatible with GSM, verizon uses the 700 frequency band which unfortunately is not what i was looking for
Typically 3G and GSM use different radio hardware, or even a different chipset. So a GSM LTE phone/tablet will have specific radio hardware for 2G GSM, 3G GSM and LTE. Verizon's LTE phones and tablet will only have CDMA for 3G and LTE. So, even if Verizon uses GSM frequency for LTE, it will still not operate on GSM networks, only LTE networks.
I have a rooted N9000 india 3g model.
I am shifting to USA next month and planning to use T mobile network.
I know N9000 doesnt support 4G/LTE but will the 3G network of T mobile work with my handset?
Contacting customer support they said that for high speed connection i need to have both 1700&2100 band on my mobile, but none of the note 3 even N9005 doesnt have 1700 band.
quoting t mobile "As per using a non T-Mobile device though he needs to make sure that the phone is completely unlocked. Also, non-T-Mobile phones without the AWS 1700/2100 band will not work on on T-Mobile's 3G / 4G network due to band limitations. In order to connect with the 3G / 4G network, a device needs to use both of the AWS 1700/2100 bands (not just one or the other)."
im confused whether to take my phone or not?
