Gyrator vs Change Screen - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I've been reading the Rhodium forums and searching on the topic. Now I'm interested in knowing which screen rotation software everyone prefers and why.
I'm currently on TMO US running a stock unbranded WM6.1 ROM version 1.19.401.1 (51489) WWE. I use the default WM today, I've never liked Manilla, Sense, Titanium or TF3D for that matter. So with my setup I'm getting great speed/performace and I only use about 28% of my memory with no apps running.
For basic screen rotation across a variety of apps (Opera 9.5, PIE, Slacker, ArcSoft, etc.) which program does everyone like considering, ease of use, stability, performance, and memory usage? I've messed around with change screen a little but that was on a 6.5 ROM, and I haven't really bothered with Gyrator since last year.
Thanks.

I use changescreen because it didn't load up and then have to be "hidden" it seemed a one-time setup and you forget about it. It doesn't crash, works as expected, and I've never had an issue with it on my Sprint TP2 once it's been installed.
And, I'm using the Sprint Stock ROM WM6.5

Thanks, thats the type of info I am looking for. TBH I was leaning toward Change Screen for the same reasons. However it's been a while since I played with Gyrator, so I was wondering if it had changed at all.

I have been using Change Screen for about a week now and it is my preference. I didn't like that Gyrator had to be running in order for it to work. Change Screen is more in the background.
Also, I found Gyrator to be too confusing on how to program with individual apps. Change Screen is A LOT easier to adjust. I especially like how Change Screen has the ability to show you what the app name is so there is no confusion when programming the exceptions. That is a huge plus.
I do find that Change Screen is a bit slow on rotation sometimes and to the extreme it seems to get confused. But that doesn't bother me that much.
So if you can't already tell, I like Change Screen.

Manilla 2d, am i the only one who doesnt like it?

Every new rom seems to come with manilla 2d, and i admit it looks fance when ur used to htc home, but like the home plugin, i usually disable them cuz i think it too slow to use, and with the right shortcuts everything is more accessible without home plugin and manilla. am i the only one who thinks its boring to use?
i wish every rom came in 2 versions, 1 with and 1 without manilla.
iam wid u too
its meant mainly for higher storage models & powerful processors
i also wish if rom comes with option u mentioned above
in fairness most ROM's do have a 'lite' version where they dont install m2d, i prefer winterface or rltoday, smaller footprints.
I like it. I see it as HTC Home matured. I actually prefer it over TouchFlo3D in the sense it uses less resources, accomplishes the same thing, and is easier to customize. It makes it more non-nerd friendly while giving them the power of WinMo without having to know where everything is (START, PROGRAMS, etc) or having to leave the homescreen.
Runs great on my Wizard as well as my Kaiser. That says something considering the Wizard is 1/2 as powerful.

WAD or MS?

Hi peoples,
ever since I've had a WM device (first one was 2 years ago) I've used Mobile Shell. I hate TF3D as it seems to be all form and no function, where as MS has everything I need within a few clicks.
The downside to MS is the sever lack of themes (I can't help it, I like to change the way my phone looks from time to time)
So I'm thinking towards WAD instead. Has anyone else made the shift from MS to WAD? did you find it better or worse?
I like the now screen in MS and wonder if the same things is available in WAD? it's the first thing I see when I switch my phone on, number of messages, emails or missed calls, details of appointments, weather etc. it's the best screen there is. Will I be able to get a WAD theme with the same info?
thanks
I moved from MS to WAD as I don't like the lack of configuration in MS. WAD is a different matter. You can make it look like you want to. You could snapshot all the icons from MS and then import them into WAD for whatever look you want!!
Regards
Wad vs MS
Have been using Wad now on Winmo devices since it first came out. With all the effort Chris as put into WAD ver 2, I would now consider it to be the best theme software out there, a high level of functionally and with a little (or a lot, depends on what you want) of graphic work can make your device look fantastic and unique.
So yes with WAD you can have all of what you want [messages, emails or missed calls, details of appointments, weather etc] plus more on your WVGA home screen, how about battery, storage, signal meters, a two month calander, two or three time zones, weather for 1/2/3 or more days etc. It is so flexible now with multiple pages, it is up to you.
I think I may be missing something with WAD2... They offer a 14 day trial and I loaded it yesterday very excited to try MALLMAN's Vista theme and was REALLY disappointed by the sluggishness of WAD2... I did not try anything to speed it up like closing TouchFlow and my S2P/S2U2 apps... am I missing something?

I've also just got the trial..and yup..it's sluggish.
In MS I just clicked the sms icon and I'm in my inbox...with WAD i takes 5 seconds or more from the moment I wake my device from stand by to when the icon responds.
maybe it's just me but that's not really acceptable. I'm going to try a couple of themes as the basic one is awful and needs a lot of configuration to make it useable.
Yes I know that seems to contradict my first post, but here's the thing
MS works well but is a pain is the neck to customise
WAD can be customised to hell, but looks a pain in the neck to do it!!
I guess I just can't win
I've found the same thing. Touch Flow is not very friendly. MS is really quick but not very flexible. WAD2 looks great but is soooo slow.
Has anyone got any tweaks to speed up WAD2?

hi everyone,
i also tested WAD2, can feel that it is really sluggish. initially, i thinking to install this to replace touchFLO 3D, cos TF3D eat up a lot RAM. but, after i tested the WAD2 by turning off the TF3D, seems like WAD2 also slow and eat up a lot of RAM.
i tested SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.4 few weeks back, but feel it is little bit incompatible with HD. when i open some folder in my HD, it took very long time to load. any of you here feel any incompatible? or it is just my own problem?
yup..I'm starting to agree about the sluggishness. I've also experienced faster battery depletion since I installed WAD2.
There other things that have disappointed me about it too. Looks like I might have to stick with MS for now.

hi, do you feel that MS 2.1.4 is little imcompatible with HD? i have MS in my phone, but sometimes when i open the folder, it will take very long time to load.
I too installed last night WAD to test it, as i found some nice vista themes i needed to check. The default theme is way too slugish, why did they even release it in the first place?
I too installed MALLMAN's vista theme and although it is not perfect you can customize it a lot and add or remove your own items. I guess it needs a lot of search, since some windows' functions cannot be found in the lists.
The coolest and detailed theme seems to be Mobile Vista Revisited [QVGA], but as the title suggests is only qvga.
Where can i download WAD2?
Google for Wisbar Advance Desktop
Muchas gracias.

this new phone?

I have had the phone for a day now. Loaded up agenda and discovered that it fights touch flow. Searched the forums for a solution. I now cannot run touch flo at all. This is really good.Touch flo sucks. Its slow, its quite ugly and it doesn,t make life quicker. We must be able to do better than this. Microsoft cant seem to and htc have given it a go.
When you use an iphone, yes i still rather have a pocket pc, you must agree that of the mark it is a nice experience plus its easy to load new software.
So whats the best front end. Its got to look nice. Easy to use. Big icons for this great screen and easy to customise to load programs.
I am not impressed so far with spb as it just seems to busy. But i do like the way it shows appointments etc. So suggestions. You name them i'll install them and by the time they have corrupted my system I will install a cooked rom, hopefully by then I will find one with easy operator setup(ORANGE).

[Q] Barebone - but not completely naked ROM? HTC Apps - available anywhere?

I've been looking through the forums, searching my butt off, etc but I'm still unable to get where I want to go - so time to ask around. Hopefully it won't turn out I'm just a crappy searcher....
So! I really enjoy SPB Mobile Shell, especially after you slap a TouchFlo/Sense-like skin on it. It's faster and more customizable than Sense itself and looks great.
I'd also like to have a fresh WinMo 6.5 as a foundation for it.
Furthermore, I'd like for that WinMo to have the actual HTC controls - volume, dialer, preferrably even alarm settings and the proper Blackstone communications setup apps. I would not, however, want it to be polluted with lots of other crap like useless MS apps or PDF readers or whatever.
So, is there such a ROM? If there is not, but there is a super clean 6.5 ROM - has anyone extracted the HTC control apps (the actual ones for Blackstone, not some crappy HTC-like **** apps from 2008 which was all I could find) into cab form, and can they be found anywhere?
Thanks.

Blackstone Henge Hyper 2.5 version 7 i think it is...pretty basic, stripped down version of windows 6.5. (not sure what ur referring to with actual htc control apps?) But, I'm using this RoMU now..running CHT to skin it, looks great, runs smooth. Only one possible issue--battery life seems to be rather poor compared to others Ive used equipped w/ far more application that required more performance from the OS. I'm looking for the prob/ solution. Perhaps too many cabs, as opposed to running a RoM with several of them already built into it...Anyway, could be what ur looking for.
Well, I was referring to having a "HTC Sense" looking dialer and volume controls etc as opposed to the exceedingly ugly ones that come with stock Windows Mobile. If you get a full-featured ROM you get the HTC communication manager, HTC dialer etc that look really nice compared to the stock. Those bits are the only ones I'd personally like in addition to the stock stuff though (and not even all of the stock stuff).
In the end I went for a very light ROM that did have Manila as well, then turned Manila off in the Today settings. It's not ideal, but it works pretty well and I have a fair amount of memory to play with still to install the apps I really want and none of the dreck I don't need.
It's a shame there's no ROM that is both very light, has the HTC apps like the dialer and comms manager and volume control etc and is built on a really fresh WinMo release... but this works I guess.

-Hey mate, yea I see what ur saying. Still check out the Blackstone Henge RoM, it sounds like what ur looking for. Very stripped down, but still utilizing the finger friendly volume control, slider, dialer, and communication manager. But the RoM build has removed alot of useless, ram draining applications. Give it a go mate if ur up to it..may just suit ur needs. Good luck.

[Q] Home screen without Sense or Titanium?

I have searched. I am looking for a WM 6.5 Home/Today screen that does not use Sense or Titanium. Or widgets that I can activate through Settings/Today/Items.
Barring those, I am looking for what everyone else is looking for: the fastest Home screen option, without hang-ups. I love Cookie's Home, but I keep having BT problems, and the Quicklinks keep duplicating. I don't like WAD or SPB MS.
Any ideas?
You've been around awhile, so this is probaly known to you, maybe not. Anyway I did'nt see this in your list and it can be as simple as you'd like to configure it yet useful all the same (not perfect by no means, not a pain to work with either), throttlelauncher sometimes referred to as TL.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436445
Thanks, Dennis! I had sort of glanced at Throttle Launcher a while ago, and for some reason dismissed it, but it might actually be what I am looking for. I have loaded it and am playing around with it; I think it'll work!
i disabled tf3d and sense on mine and have only the Easy Launcher enabled for my today screen. No lag, high speed and no fancy stuff. really simple plug in and works great on my 6.5 tp2. also added QuickMenu which i really like as a an addl launcher/task manager and for the other stuff it does (disables activsync when not being used, converts the x to a real app closer, etc..)
I eventually gave up on Throttle Launcher. I found a great ROM that RAWKS for smoothness and speed; Wildchild's Illuminati ROM, found here:
http://wcxxperia-nce.com/
I also added Zuinige Rijder's TouchLockPro, a locking proggie that uses very little resources, and can lock the proximity, light, and G-sensors on my Touch Pro 2. Super-cool program.
http://touchlockpro.sourceforge.net/TouchLockProFree.html#1.4
Also, Schap's Advanced Task Manager and Tarkim's Keyboard Controller are awesome. Especially the Keyboard Controller; it has revolutionized my phone, with the ability to program any button for multiple purposes, depending on which app you are using.
have you tried wk task. It has a launcher activated by swiping. It also is a great task manager. Most peopledont seem to know about it.
Take a peek at iphonetoday. Very quick and is not a memory hog. I am running Titanium with iphonetoday and getting 124m free. Very snappy

Thanks for the suggestion; I tried it, and love it, so far! Noticeably faster. I'm running WildChild's Illuminati ROM, with iPhoneToday as a Today plugin.
I don't know how you're getting 124mb free; I've got 82mb currently free, I've gotten a max of 89mb free, and I'm stoked with anything over 80!
Thanks again!!
Edit: I'm getting around 111mb free, since I dumped a useless program!
