hi guys is there anyone can tell if the htc hd2 is good to buy it or he had alot problems thanks alot
It's hard to say because it seems like a 50/50 thing. Some us don't have ANY problems with it out of the box and for those who did have problems most were fixed by flashing a new ROM. I didn't have a problem with it stock, but after flashing Kumar's ROM it worked sooooo much better and it's faster too. So I say take a chance and return it if it doesn't work out for you because really this phone is AWESOME IMOH!

The riskiest possible thing for you to do with your phone is to attempt to upgrade the ROM, particularly to an unofficial release, without reading all the threads about upgrading here and on the other PDA forums. You will also see some of the potential problems and the occasional complexity in recovering from them. After doing that reading, you will have no need to post a question like this. Asking others to summarize all of that information for you is a bit much, and puts you at the disadvantage of not being fully informed.
any good or bad comments for ROM 1.66?
is there any way to revert back to the old ROM 1.48 if i would like to?? appreciate if you could share..thanks!!
ROM 1.66 is much better than 1.43/8. It's faster, smoother and has less problems. Besides that, you do not need to install the earlier hoffixes, they are incorporated in 1.66. I use 1.66 now for more than 10 days and had no need to reset the device (except after installing new programs of course).
Hop that helps you in your choice. So, for your other question to revert to 1.48: no need to do that.
I agree with Kuzibri 1.66 is a very stable nice featured ROM which much improves the earpiece volume issue.
Another thread about 1.66 - that's very cool!
Got my HD2 2 weeks ago on a Tuesday that evening upgraded to ROM 1.66 not looked back. I have not encountered any of the problems that others spoke of when the HD2 first came out with earlier ROMs.
I would say go for it.
Scott
thanks all for your kind sharing of thoughts...i wld go for it then!!!
Defintely go for 1.66. It's worlds apart from the 1.43 ROM my phone shipped with.
i flash to the 1.66 version .. there were alot error msg pop out .. such as service.exe and device.exe
so is there any problem wit the new rom version ?
isn' better to wait for the 2... version? this rom is known for is afterwards_fixes...
i'm waiting for that one.....think is better....
Good thread. I've been looking hard for a ROM 1.66 review type thread also, but to no avail.
Before I upgrade my ROM, can anyone comment on the picture quality? I remember I installed an htc official update (which was removed after a couple of days) for improving the camera, but all it did was make every picture look way over exposed - I needed to hard reset. I don't want to upgrade to this ROM if it nullifies my camera.
Thanks in advance.

Shameless bump.
No dice???
"Screw you guys, I'm going home."

I lost my XT9 functionality with upgrading to this ROM. It only works with Phone Keyboard mode, in compact and full QWERTY it doesn't work, only the space bar works, no letters, no numbers, no nothing. I posted a thread about this but seems that no one either has encountered this problem or they don't use XT9 and are not bothered by it.
Whichever way, I would like to request if anyone can please post the portion of the their registry so that I can see what is missing or what is different by mine.
Thanks!
And if you don't have any problems with your 1.48, stick with it! It's not worth the update, trust me....

I think the camera works well for a phone camera... its not going to rival Nikon or Canon but the pics I have taken have been clear crisp and has good colour saturation... Using 1.66 has been fine for me... I have been toying with using Dutty's ROM or Merilion... but the need is not so great now that the phone works fine on 1.66...

Thank you!
best upgrade nearly no issues ,no need to flash sh*tty cooked roms
For those whom had the touchscreen problem with their nexus one, how is it after you hacked the desire rom on it? Thanks guys
Modaco's ROM, alpha 10. Yes, there's still touchscreen calibration problem occasionally, but it feels much less frequent than on stock ROM.
How bad were you having it before? I am trying to figure out is it worth it to root. So far no reason to root, but if they improve the touch screen significantly then yes.
It is gone completely for me since I went to desire. I haven't had one instance since I flashed it and mine was really bad. A great relief for me cause HTC wouldn't give me a replacement.

It's still here, but once or twice a day (big difference than before,it was very bad). You guys think this is a hardware thing, since not everybody has it? This is my second N1 with the problem (the first one ending in 00 and this one in 01).Anyway back in topic yes is alot better after rooting but still here.
Interesting, thank you guys. I hope Google or HTC do something about this, since it seems to be more software???
I am considering buying the Telstra HD2 via a buddy in Oz for use on AT&Ts network. I have been checking out the forums and it seems there are a ton of issues with the HD2 regarding touch screen failures, data connection issues, and other nags that make the experience more frustrating than enjoyable.
Would love to know from experienced users opinions on whether or not I should buy the HD2. I am a very experienced BlackBerry user but I have gotten bored with the UI and want to try something new.
Also to note: I plan to use my next ATT upgrade to get the WP7 phone but that is too long a wait to stick it out on the BB. I am not going to switch to TMob as I think I am the only ATT user that is satisfied with ATT.
Really any thoughts on why I should or should not buy the Telstra HD2 would be appreciated.

The HD2 had ALOT of complaints from users when it first came out and all the problems it had was due to the terrible rom that it came with. The latest official Rom v1.66 and any custom rom from the rom development forum have fixed all these problems and after owning an HD2 for 2 1/2 months I can say hand on heart that it is the best phone I have ever seen or used. No freezes, no problems with the screen, no data connection problems and a pleasure to use. Everytime I look at it I still think WOW!!
Even the camera and video capture which has always been dismal at best on HTC phones is now fantastic and stunningly fast.
With the tweaks and mods available on xda you wont find a better phone.
I advised a friend to get one a few weeks ago and after he got his HD2 he thanked me for recommending it so my advise to you would be to get one as you will not be disapointed.
The only thing I will say is that once you get it be prepared to put HardSPL on it and flash either the 1.66 stock rom or one of the custom roms available to make sure it runs at its best.

I purchased one Telstra HD2 for myself, flashed the ROM (to XannyTech's), and have had no problems except a bug related to screen rotation during phone calls causing the dialpad to reposition itself annoyingly (there's a simple work-around). My boss was so impressed with the phone that he bought one and I've prepped it the same way.
I have no reservations about the purchases. Worrying about WP7 upgrade possibilities is silly since we all know so very little about what might happen. You're right not to listen to the Chicken Littles who want to sue HTC or see the price come down because an upgrade never offered now may only be possible instead of probable.

Awesome and thanks for the input. I am sold. My buddy in Perth grabbed one for me today and it is on the way to me. I was debating whether or not to sell it but I want to keep it. Your explanation of flashing the ROM was one of the first links I bookmarked from this site.
I am definitely going to have to HardSPL the device - what I understand is that the Telstra ROM will not allow me to access ATT's 3G bands. I have been on a BlackBerry for 5 years so this is all new to me but I am looking forward to getting the HD2.

When you get it make sure you check the SPL in the bootloader screen to make sure you can put HardSPL on it. The requirements are SPL 1.42. I dont think any phones are being sold with a higher SPL version but you really want to check that first before you start drooling over the sheer beauty of it
Once you are ready to start flashing it please post in my flashing for noobs thread if you have any more observations or questions.

Theres an even better replacement than the rotate fix, there's a dll fix now too
I think it's an excellent phone, but the standard Telstra ROM is terrible, I'm using the latest Energy ROM and the phone is AMAZING now
I agree in that it is an excellent phone. I am using it on AT&T here in the US.
I have tried several of the ROMs cooked here and can say they all offer great alternatives. Go for it!
I also have the T9193 setup with ATT. I went for the safe sea wwe 1.66 rom. The only problem I had was with the data freezing on me a couple times a day. But once I got the right bands setup and installed the 2.08.50.08_2 radio the phone has been flawless for weeks. Not one issue. I have had no problems with the touchscreen at all.

Not the right thread maybe, but what is the link to this fix? Only thing that annoys me sometimes. Thanks.
Concerning this thread, MSKip recommended me the HD2 (he came from a TyTn II) just like me, and I can only repeat every word he said. Even camera is quite nice. Used in a trip with my kids, and it did its job when I needed quite nicely.
I also bought my Telstra to use in the same band as AT&T in Brazil. It's been working with no problem. I don't keep it connected all the time, so can not say about stability of connection, but whenever I need I connect HSPA right away and connection is quite fast and it is quite OK to browse the web with it. And thing is no lag! I use Miri 6.5.x, great, there is a fix for the registry to select correct bands or auto... My 2 cents.
PS: I was only missing a little bit hardware keyboard and media keys. Now I'm getting used to on-screen keyboard and typing is getting closer in speed and accuracy to a hard keyboard. Media keys, well, I use my bluetooth headphone's, still miss them sometimes, though, but nothing is perfect, is it?
I have been happy with ATT, but the price of the import is too steep so I cannot stay if I want the HD2
If you dont mind the price importing shouldnt be too bad, I know someone who did and has been very happy with it.

Thanks. Trying it.
Yes, not cheap. I've got my HD2 Telstra from Australia to the US for around U$ 800 total.
Can anyone direct me to a really good rom that has everything working on it. What I mean as good rom meaning "rom with little user complain" I tried American= and basically it was a little glitch-y. I am currently using the Dl_Desire v4.32 and that one is not that bad but my tether don't work and I have noticed that internet connection goes in an out.
I'm running this one.
And there a lot of folks that have good things to say about it.
Of course your experience might be different so it would be better if you would try a few and see what you like
