Yeah... I saw that. Little skeptical though because once you trace the source back to handhelditems they say someone got that info from a webchat with Sprint. We all know to think twice about those! lol It does seem to line up with that April 9th update that's been floating around though. Who knows...
Hopefully this is true and not another april fools prank. It was about a week-week and a half ago they rumored it would release in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed.................
With all the sprint leaks we have been getting I think it might be getting close.
But who knows
I already have it thanks damage
good, it's about time, tired of watching people get LEAKS and then not sharing the source...

don't worry, Sprint will just repackage one of the XDA roms as their own and use it as the official update
ive said it once ill say it again the april 9th update is a maintenance release to fix mms issues not 2.1
sprint hasnt told us anything beyond that
any new news on an "official" release date? im hearing either the 9th or 26th of this month? i don't get why sprint is soo tight lipped about this?
also when is the nexus & evo launching on sprint?
no ONE cares anymore

Once every single bug has been worked out of DamageControl, Sprint will pull it off XDA and release it.

with alot of tweaking to do after the initial install, yes your right.
i hope when the final comes out and we get custom roms, we won't have to apply any fixes. this is one reason im back to 1.5 for now. i have faith in the devs here, they do great work!
Why do we keep creating threads on this issue. It is a waste of space. It will come when Sprint is ready to release it. They have never given an exact date. People get so pissed because they haven't sent an update. Well guess what. When you bought your phone it had 1.5. They are not required to update it to 2.1. Either use a custom ROM or shut up and wait until it comes out. Then when it comes on don't get on here complaining about how crappy the release is.
I have Fresh 2.0d and it is working very well.
----------------------------
Shut up and wait
Running: Fresh2.0d
Developing:WarpedMetal (T minus 2 weeks)
Just got out of a sprint chat. this is what they're saying
honestly no thread can "waste space" as well we have plenty of it. I wasn't complaining nor *****ing about it. I am more happy with the legend based roms then the leaked Sprint roms but when the official Rom hits it will help with more development to fix issues and get faster roms out there. honestly if you don't like these threads the easy thing to do is stay out of them. no one is forcing anyone to read the forum or a certain posts. forums are for talking that is there main and only reason for existing.
damn I hate trolls.

Wow, that's interesting, I dont know whether to believe it or believe the support guy/gal was confused by the question and didnt know how to answer, so he/she just gave something generic

Does Sprint use any automated responses on the chat support? I know there's quite a few companies that do, the program just selects a basic response to generic questions about that subject, and it seems like the responses that are given by these reports are way too "computery" to be coming from a human. So I'm guessing that the system Sprint's chat support uses has a list of responses pop up based on key words in the client's question.
Probably way off base, but it'd almost make sense based on how similar the responses are in all these chat transcripts.
Just been talking to HTC Support about a problem with my Hero. I also asked them about the 2.1 update and she said (and I quote) '...the 2.1 update will be an over the air update which will be for T-Mobile and unbranded Hero's and will start on 30th April. Other operators will follow later. This is for the UK, other countries will have different release dates...'
So guys, another one to add to the mix.
Now don't start flaming me for posting this and don't acuse me of lying - I am merely passing on what HTC told me today.
well I guess its better news this time since its promised date is getting shorter each time they mention it (ie its not like next month or whatever they keep saying).
Not hold my breath anyway - bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and installed villianRom 5.2 - seems to work well with a few glitch but nothing to cry home about.
I won't accuse you of lying but nothing will be set in stone until an official date is confirmed in a press release.
So I hope its true, but chances are it will get hit my more delays.

Actually, quite surprise that T-mobile will be the same time as unbranded phones though. usually carrier phones comes after sim free ones.

My god if there wasn't those posts the hero forum would be rather dead..... i mean i had a wimo phone before, and there were plenty of usefull posts, interesting apps, etc. and for the hero, except from some posts very useful for newbies like me (rooting, flashing radio, adb manual...etc.), nothing really interesting !!! Again and again the same posts..

Agree completely, should be 1 thread titled update rumors and news
So I have rooted my N1 and have cyanogen, when froyo comes out and I decide i want to try it out, do i have to upload the original rom and then upgrade? or what is the best way to do it? so i can go back to cyanogen if i decide i like it better? trying to keep it as simple as possible...Thanks!!!
You don't have to do anything. It will come out as an OTA, Cyanogen will get his hands on it immediately if not a few days before the release and it will be incorporated into his ROM. You will likely have an updated version from him based on Froyo including all his extra goodies before the stock OTA is even 100% rolled out [they usually do it over a couple days].

FroYo will be released in June.
Google I/O is next Wednesday.

2.2 will be leaked next Wednesday.
We will get it.
And laugh at people who haven't rooted.
P.S. Is it just me or does this question come up a lot? And probably will increase over the next few days/weeks...

From Adobe. Check this out:
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2010/04/moving_forward.html
We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June. From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice.

Flash requires 2.2, so a "general release" in June would mean that 2.2 would arrive sometime before then or concurrently.
Either way, we (rooters) will get both much, much earlier.
Thanks paul. I hope theres a ton of youtube videos that come from that convention.
I hope froyo has this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae01yz5z99E
Also if you get bored, watch that video over again with closed captoning, very funny =)
I doubt google is bundling Flash with the AOSP code. That would mean adobe is making flash open source(not happening) or google is locking up android(not happening). With all the talk about decoupling the android OS, the chances of something like a video player being bundled to the main OS update happening are very very very minute.
Flash will be a separate .apk, but the OS will need the frameworks to support it.

It irritates me because he states it as a blatant fact, where it should be said as something less direct. It is a possibility.. but it isn't exactly set in stone to happen - especially with how Google has been so closed about this release.
Froyo being leaked would be a god send, but I won't be holding my breath, simply to be suffocated at the end.
Why do you guys think flash requires 2.2? It comes incorporated into 2.2 but if you have 2.1 you will be able to install the apk and be good. Adobe said flash is coming to android 2.0 and above.

It requires 2.2. For a laugh I tried the flashplayer apk on my stock 2.1 installation and the package failed.

so you have the froyo leak and the flash apk, and you are confirming that flash will not work on 2.1? if this is the case the people in the ppcgeek forum waiting for the evo and the incredible forum are going to be highly upset until their phone is rooted.

(That's what they get for buying SenseUI!)
its going to suck having to load everything back on to my phone, since this isn't a cyanogen update we will have to wipe everything. then its going to suck when cyanogen comes out with his rom a week or 2 later then we will have to wipe everything again to load cyanogen rom

I credit this to the lack of good stickies in this forum. Ok maybe I should change the word "good" to "useful" stickies. But there really should be a good Q&A sticky to answer everybody's question so that they don't ask it again in a new thread. For example: how many posts have you seen recently that ask "how do I root my phone?".. not many (unless its people panicing because they think they've bricked their phone) and thats because of that sticky at the top. I'm sure Paul will put together a guide (someday) and it will be at the top in no time.
Mod edit: I will pass your suggestion to the responsible forum mods.
The development section is crawling with rumors that someone got this update today. Only one person has confirmed the OTA update and no one else on the dev forum has received it.

Has anyone here received it yet?

So everyone is calling this the official Froyo update, meaning that this is the version that they are going to release via OTA in the coming days (hopefully, not weeks) to retail units not just dev? If that's the case why are so many people having issues with the update? Also, anyone else getting OTA updates? Just asking cause if it's the same one they are going to OTA without any changes I might as well just update right now.

Unless I am mistaken, bluetooth voice dialing is not a native function of froyo, it is included in a google app that is only compatible with froyo. As with all google apps, carriers can choose whether or not to include it. If it is not pre-installed, it can be downloaded from the market.

I'm guessing like any update Sprint/HTC roll out, there are going to be delays in certain parts. I'm sure it will be hitting devices sooner than later. Sprint/HTC are probably getting their servers up to par for a mass of people trying to get their phones updated.
To the mods, If I posted in the wrong location please move. Thanks
On a side note:
Please do not update if you are rooted or are going to root. Like the recent updates in the past, this may get rid of the root exploit.

This update is most likely the precursor to Gingerbread kinda like what they did right before froyo was released put everyone on the same level with all the fixes then upgrade them all at the same time no haveing to wait for differnt builds due to partition issues of course since we're rooted it doesn't matter to us really

Swype vs Voice
One of the posts following the Engadget story reported that you lose voice input when you use the swype that comes with the Sprint update. Is this true?
It makes no sense because the latest version of the Swype beta has the mic button, and voice input available.
If the voice input, mic button is not there in the version of Swype that comes with the Sprint update, it may be due to Sprint specifications. What would the point of that be.
Thank you for your time.
