Always have 2 of each in picture viewer. - HD2 General

Using the tab for pictures and video, then tapping on a picture to go to full screen in landscape. It's always showing 2 of each image one then another one, then the next image and so on and so on.
But using file explorer to view the pics on landscape everything is normal.

I had this problem as well. At first I thought it was resco photo manager causing it (maybe by creating another preview file or something) but I was wrong, so I removed it and randomly deleted one of them picture and the problem kinda solved itself.
I hope I've been of help.

When I delete, say one of the double image. Both dis-appears and never to be seen again. There is only one file it's just that photo viewer is showing 2 of each.
Steps taken so far.
Task29 and reflash the same rom 3x and format card also 3x.
Soft & Hard reset as well.
I will try a different ROM and will update if the problem goes away.

It's the former ROM that's causing the problem.

It's not the other rom. I never changed roms and had that problem too. But I think its because of two things. One is u have it sshow all folders. Or you did what I did. Tried to tell the phone to save pictures from the main memory to the memory card. Mine fixed itself . but i forgot what i did. I know I did a soft reset, but I dont think that's what i did that fixed it.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. But for now I'm happy it's gone using a different ROM.

Mmm...you did a task 29 and the problem is now gone. That makes me wonder about all the junk that stays in the phone's memory after flashing a new rom without doin' a t29 first...anyway I'm glad you solved it

This is a bug with Sense, usually happens when you change language.
The FIX is this:
1. Go to Albums
2. Select Album that you want to use.
3. Menu - Set Album as Favorite

Today Background non-permanence

Anybody else set a certain photo as the Today Background, only for the system to reset to default on a soft-reset???
It's getting on my tits more than a little bit and is something that you'd think wouldn't happen.
Anyone know a fix for this?
Yes, and the same thing happens. Someone must know how to fix this so that a picture set as Today background stays after a soft reset. There was no such issue for me on my Qtek 9090 with WM 2003 SE.
Is it possible that the picture is stored in the SD card? If you store it in ROM, does it have same effect?
Just curious
it sounds familiar to the old, outlook loosing mail settings after a reboot, probably due to registry not caching, turn phone off and after 10 seconds ( reg flushing time ) then reset, see if that makes it stick

Nope - the pic is stored in My Pictures in the ROM.

Can you confirm that 'turn phone off' means 'hit the power button', leave 10 secs, then do a soft rest?
or is it soft reset, leave 10 secs (how?? it reboots under it's own time you can't stop it), have the phone on for 10 secs then reset again?
Sorry - just not quite understanding you I think.
Alternatively - is the Today Background file information stored in the registry? Anyone know where? Or what to look for?
Carnivore - that 10 second trick doesn't work (just tried it)
Try deleting "theme-refresh" (or something called something like that) from the start up.

'hit the power button', leave 10 secs, then do a soft rest is exactlly what i meant, i had to do that before i could get my exchange settings to stick
i set it up twice and lost em due to crashing before i did the power, 10secs, reset, thing.
I was theorising that the same thing could work, ive not lost my today pic as yet.
Menu? You mean folder in \windows?
I had it there and it solved it for me. Sorry no other fixes.....

Tried what you suggested but my search returned nothing !
i couldnt find it either, poss cos i got a imate and you got a qtek, he found it on an o2, so its poss build related.
i have never had a problem.
i have taken a photo, and used paint to down size the file to a 640 x 640 (this accomodates screen rotation, provided you get the best part of the picture to the left and to the top so rotaion only chops off the right or the bottom).
I also dont use the today function and browse to the phone. I open pictures and vides, find the file, and use the menu function to say set as today screen, with an opaque setting of choice.
dont store on the memory card, you need that picture available on startup, the pic is only about 100 - 200kb +/-, put it in my docs and its fine.
mine has never been lost except when I have changed themes manually by choice.
I have noticed when you apply a pic to the background using the Pictures and Videos App, wherever the pic is stored WM5 automatically makes a stwater_480_640.jpg and a stwater_640_480.jpg,
I dont quite understand the naming "stwater" as the pic was never called that.
The files stwater_480_640.jpg and stwater_640_480.jpg suggest to me that the picture is resized and formatted for the today background as a portrait and a landscape view. The ST water (at a guess) denotes that the page has been watermarked or watered down (as per transparency settings when you are applying the image to the today wallpaper).
hmm that's wierd i dont have that prob with my M5000 backgroun stays the same after many soft resets!

agreed. I think these images are the drop down Start menu backgrounds (??)
the REALLY weird thing about this is that when I do a soft reset and lose my Today wallpaper, the Start Menu RETAINS the wallpaper that I desire!!

Camera woe...

Hi folks
Has anyone had any issues with the camera crashing? This is what I get quite often trying to use the camera.... :
Press camera button on side of TyTN
turn camera on side and use screen to line up the shot.
Press camera button to take the shot... (or the centre joystick)
Camera pauses for a while then goes directly to the Today screen.
I press the camera button again and I get a message like " unable to start camera app. Camera already in use ".
the picture wasn't taken.
I can't remember the exact message... today it's working so I can't see it!
other info:
I am using a 1Gb storage card and the camera saves straight to it.
if I soft reset the device, I can go into the camera function again, but then it is likely to do the same thing.
It seems to happen at extremes of temperature - possibly hardware fault?
incidentally, I have tried this with no other apps etc. running
many thanks for any thoughts
best regards
I'm afraid this is a known fault with some handsets. You could set the quality to fine instead of superfine (I know, what's the point of having the superfine option if all it does is crash the app?!).
I now use Arktek's coolcamera app without the same problems.
Give it a try.
Thanks for your reply.
Hmm... a known fault. If this is a known fault - is this a S/W or H/W fault? I'm going to try your camera app - thanks for that !
Cheers
Rich
I just tried the coolcamera software.... that is superb. I guess I'll soon find out if this is HW or SW.. thanks AGAIN for that - brilliant app heheh
I used to have a cam problem. Usually after the i take the pics, the preview shows black screen. I have to soft-reset. Then later i found out it was the RSS reader, prss reader, that was doing this. I uninstalled and now it all fine.
My camera does not crash, but after I take a picture (the preview shows a fine picture) I go to the directory where the photo should be saved (storage card/my documents/ my pictures) but the picture does not apear!! in fact now that directory seems to be empty...
If I choose to save the picture to main memory this does not happend, just when I save to sd card...
Does anyone have an idea about what could be happening??
I'm afraid i've lost all mi pictures from SD card because even usinf file explorer o activesync the my picture folder is empty
thanks for the coments...
Im using XDA Live ROM but camera used to work fine with this rom
edit: If I rename the My documents folder in order to force camera to create a new My Documents folder, then the pics are saved to this new folder an they apear in... the same happens if I only rename the My pictures folder... the weird thing is that after picture is saved in the new folder, if I make changes to go back to save them to the old folder pictures are not saved again...
hi have this problem too.
but somitimes with my pda, before exiting to today where i make a photo, it make it , but completly black.....
other times , it exit to the today directy ...
there's not difference between memory card or internal storage, but I notice the problem is the resolution and the subject: if i shot with 640 or 1mp there isn't the problem ... and if i shot a mountain landscape the problem is more present.
maybe there's a software bug to manage "big" photo.
now i'm trying coolcamera.
Hi,
I had this problem last week while I was taking some photos with the 2M setiing for the quality. I save the photos on the microSD card. When the problem has repeated itself after one SR, I have thought that the problem could come from the SD card. I have verified the card using the FlashFormat maintenance program and since then I have not met again this "Camera software is already launched" problem, even using the 2M quality. Maybe this could also help you.
Regards,
Murat
Wow - it seems that this is a common one. There are several issues regarding the standard camera app, it seems:
1) The camera takes a black (or dark grey) picture and saves it in the correct place as a black (or dark grey) image.
2) The camera takes a picture, then crashes... like I described in the initial post
3) Image files being stored anywhere other than in the correct place.
I have experienced the first two issues, but not the last one.
The only thing I can really say about this is that the coolcamera application has been working fine since I installed it the other day. I have been using the camera quite frequently in different environments (for work, honest) ans it has yet to crash.
I notice that with Coolcamera, when you exit it, you exit it... so it's not left running in the background somewhere. this isn't the case with the standard camera app.
I'm going to try it out for a week and see if I get any of the above issues.
About cool camera...
I'm not quite sure but 2 other people has confirmed that they had the same issue that I post ... and both of them star having this problem after instaling coolcam (like me) ...
Really I don't know if this problem was caused by installing and uninstalling coolcam ...it seems this app has been working very good for other people here.
What the other 2 guys did was a hard resent then a restore from all the programs and they said it solve everything...I just haven't do it yet; just change the directory to which pictures are saved...
I have a problem with mine as well, but it's a bit different. My camera works, but it acts like it is stuck in 16 color mode. Very strange looking. After going through all the soft-reset, hard-reset, take the battery out and hard-reset steps of support, they decided it is a hardware problem and they are sending me a new phone (it's only 2 weeks old). I have yet to hear anyone else with this problem anywhere.

Hi there,
I have the similar problem "Camera software is already launched" as well as lost video and photos. Really pity to loose vacation memories
I have 2 questions:
1. You mension FlashFormat maintenance program. Where can I get this?
2. I installed coolcamera and wonder if I can uninstall the default camera application in some way? This question is probably for all users regarding this post.
KR
Hi Roqin,
I have bought this soft from CNETX. You can check it at :
http://www.cnetx.com/format/
If you have SKTools, it also has a function for checking the flash card. You can also check the card using a card reader connected to your PC (not very convenient if you have the problem on the road, of course ;-) ).
I hope this helps.
Murat
Thanks Murat
I will check it. Wonder if anybody has answer on my Q2?

Photo Camera problem

Hello, i have a little problem, i couldn't find any thread with these contents..
but, here's the problem:
Whenever i take a normal photo, on any resolution.. it won't save the file after i took a picture and my HD won't respond for a minute, when i try to see the photo it isnt there..
Does anyone know what might have happened? it's pretty annoying
Much thanks, Cb
Sounds like it is having a problem finding the file it is supposed to save the images to. Have you added any new programs or changed any settings recently? Where are you storing the images, device or storage card? Check if you have set these to hidden or read only.

yes it does sound like your folder location may be missing use your file explorer and see if DCIM folder is in storage card inside DCIM should have a folder called 100MEDIA
Well, the folders are there since i selected to save it on the storage card.. and no i havent changed any settings to the camera, and it still does the same thing been trying to figure it out but it wont work at all
If you haven't changed any settings to the camera, have you changed any settings in any other programs or installed any new programs? What ROM are you using?
I'm using the stock rom, 1.14.404.3 (22273) NLD, last program i installed before it went to act strange was spore origins

At a guess I would say that spore origins played part in messing things up. First try telling the camera to save to the device and see what happens. If it is still messed up then you may have to hard reset. If it does work when you tell it to save to the device then take what you need off the storage card and re-format it, then that should fix your problem.
if you have installed "advanced config" utility please check under camera settings if you have "encode photos in portrait mode" option enabled
if yes, unable it.
this can make your phone to stuck or delay whenn you take a picture
good luck!

it worked! thank you very much, I was about to take it back to the store to ask but now there won't be any need anymore , it's the first time i had a problem with my HD so i'm happy i've been around XDA for a while now

Crashed sense by renaming a .jpg - now it won't start!

I'll just save my swearing of HTC programmers for later, for now I'll just cut to the chase:
One of my albums that I've synced by using WMP didn't have a thumbnail visible in sence Music Player. I had the .jpg picture for it, but it wouldn't work (I'm assuming because the album was a 2 part one, CD1 and CD2). So I've simply copied the .JPG to both the folders and renamed it ~hTC_Albumname.jpg
It was quite a long name but there should not have been any problems since their names were different (the second one had CD2 in the end).
Right after I've done that I went to the sence player and clicked play on the album. Then SENSE crashed and now, even after soft reset it can't start!
I've deleted all of my .mp3 files from /Storage Card/Music
I've deleted all Temp files by hand and via ClearTemp
I've performed soft reset a dozen times
I've tried deleting the Applicaton Data/HTC/AudioManager_Eng but the .vol file is used by a service and can't be deleted.
How do I proceed to restore Sence? I don't want to perform a hard reset as I have extreme amounts of settings in comparison to small amounts of time.
Any suggestion on this matter is greatly appreciated
I have really no idea how to solve this, as a matter of fact I'm not quitte shure if I understand what is happening here.
But my first thought was: to eliminate if your problem comes from your SD-card or not, why not remove it and start your device without it?
Hope this may be of help to a solution.
Goodluck,
Fred
When you say sense can't restart. Do you mean that it tries to start and then crashes or it that it doesn't bother to start at all. If it is the former; do you get any kind of error message? If the latter; have you gone to your today settings and made sure sense is still enabled?

It tries to start normally but it doesn't, it retries a few times and then just writes a message: Unable to start sence, tap here to try again. Of course the tapping is to no avail. I will try to format my SD card tomorrow to see if it does any good... Damn what damage a little .jpg can do...
might be time for a hard reset.

I highly doubt formatting the SD will have any impact. It sounds like the registry was somehow corrupted. I've also read about the "Unable to start sense" error happening to people after they sync their phone.
I have another question though. What ROM are you using?
Unfortunately my friend, like posted you may have to hard reset. Occasionally when trying a new modification (something in Sense for example) my Sense gets broken. It will try to start a few times then I would get that message, to date I have found no solution to fixing Sense if it won't start so I am forced to hard reset. Sorry I wish there was another option. If someone knows please chime in
Many times when sense gets "broken" it's due to a corrupted file or registry entry. This can happen from a bad cab install to a messed up tweak. Also, some custom roms that are optimized for speed have modified buffering so a crash at an unlucky time may cause file and registry corruption that breaks sense. If you can pinpoint where the problem occurred, then a fix may be possible without a hard reset.
Although a hard reset WILL do the job, I like to think of it as an absolute last resort.
Don't know if you have CHT installed, but I avoided a hard reset by re-installing CHT when having the same problem with sense. Something I did corrupted a CHT file I am guessing. Also, I could not import my saved CHT Editor settings, as sense would not start after import. Just skipped import and was back to normal.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this immediately. I've already started looking into custom roms/radios. I'm currently using stock 1.66 with a 2.07 radio.
EDIT: Thank you so very much, it worked!! I'm guessing that I've overlooked tha fact that on one level of CHT I had the media player plugin. I'm guessing my messing around didn't brake sense's media player but the homescreen CHT media player plugin!
You are most welcome.

My pictures just disappeared

Today i was using my nexus 4 to take some photos when suddenly the screen became black and it rebooted,i thought that sometimes it can happen even on a nexus, but when i checked the gallery after it rebooted, all my photos were disappeared except for the photos i took today but they disapperaed only in the camera folder and my other folders in the gallery had all my pictures inside. That's really strange what cuold be the problem in your opinion? I just hope it isn't a sort of hardware issue
Have you used a file browser to navigate to your DCIM/Camera folder to verify that they are gone vs the Gallery just not showing them?

You didn't mention whether or not you are running a custom ROM or kernel. If you do have a custom kernel and are changing things like voltages, I would have to attribute your problem to that. Otherwise, sometimes reboots like this are a fluke and happen at unfortunate moments while files are being written. You could try a data recovery app, however I don't know if they actually work or no.
did you have fsync off?

Fsync has to do with journaling, and when you turn it off, it makes it much more likely that you will lose files in a random reboot. It doesn't make the reboot more likely, just the loss of data.
