Dual sim - hsdpa - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi All,
Does anyone know of a dual sim adapter that work in the HTC Hero, which also allows HSDPA connections? A lot of the cheaper ones found on ebay don't appear to offer 3G access.
I have a Vodafone UK and O2 SIM card and would like to use them both in the same phone.
Does anyone have any experience of one that works with these and or HSDPA access?
-thanks,
Lewman

Special 3G SIM cards (USIM) needed for HTC Universal?

http://msmobiles.com/news.php/3965.html
Does anyone have any further information on whether a special 3G SIM card is necessary to use the HTC Universal? If this is true, it is terrible news for people who'd like to use it in the USA.
Does anyone have an email address for a decision maker for one of the US carriers (T-Mobile USA, preferably)? Maybe if we send some rational emails, they will decide to pick it up.
It will be necessary to get a new simcard to work on a 3G network... though the Universal will work with any sim card without the benefits of a 3G network (i.e. if you put a 2.5G sim in you will be able to use GPRS in it etc)
I have an Xda Exec on evaluation. I can confirm it works with SIM as well as USIM, without issue.

Pls tell us more...about USB Host fuctionalities etc... battery life...Wi Fi..Bluetooth.Can we listen songs over Bluetooth Headset...?
Any issues related to twisting and turning of screen...Pls
If your carrier offers a 3G network you can get a USIM for no money - or the cost of the SIM so you can access the UMTS network.
SIM - lets you access a GSM network (or an iDEN network)
USIM - lets you access a GSM and a UMTS network
RUIM - lets you access a CDMA network - in theory GSM networks too for roaming (mentioning this for brownie points lol )

MDA Compact and 3G network UK

Hi all,
Congrats for the nice forum. I got my MDA compact sim free recently which I used with my Vodafone UK sim card and it worked fine. However I have signed a new contract on 3G UK in Phones4you where I was convinced by the dealer that the sim card can be used to another sim free phone apart from the 3G Nokia 6680 I have taken. It seems that this was not true because when I insert the sim card in the MDA it says "Ivalid Sim Card" and I can't use it now. Do you know any way I could manage my problem? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you very much.
I'm interested in this too. I have considered switching to the 3 network but that fact that you have to use their phones has thus far put me off.

Yes, they have good price plans, but I am really disappointed cause I can't use my MDA. Their sim cards seem to be locked and unfortunately I have no idea whether there is any way to make it suitable to non-3G phones.
The dealer lied.
3 will not allow non 3G phones because it involve cost to them. Three roam to O2's GSM (2G and 2.5G) when you are out of range of the 3 network and that costs them money. If you have a 2.5G phone like the Magician then it will be permanently roamed to O2 and they would make no money from you becasue they would be billed by O2 for your calls.
Don't forget you get a "cooling off" period on these contracts. Might be worth using it.
MDA Compact is not a UMTS phone! I think it couldn't operate in 3G networks! Correct me if I'm wrong.

Are you sure?! This is very strange! Are you talking about Orange in Israel?!
Thank you all for the replys, it seems that unfortunately in UK it would be impossible to use 3G card on the MDA. As the 6680 has nothing in common with the MDA I hope my bills to compensate the inconvenience
3G
Using a non umts phone like the magician to connect to a umts network seems to me a very strange and bad idea.
Wait until next year (not so long) and buy the HTC Hermes or the XDA version : it's a S110 with the features of a QTEK 9100 and umts and wifi and ....

Yeah, an Israeli Orange sim card works OK on my Magician.
of course I couldn't use any 3G services...
3 is a UMTS-only network. All 3G phones in the UK are dual-mode GSM/UMTS phones.
Because the 3 network does not cover enough of the UK it has an arrangement with O2 so that 3 phones will 'roam' to O2 when out of 3 coverage. When they do this they use O2's GSM network. So, a GSM phone with a 3 USim would be permanently roamed to O2 as I said earlier.
An Orange USim will work in an Orange GSM phone. Orange (in the UK) have a GSM Network and are rolling out a UMTS network. When an Orange phone is out of reach of the Orange UMTS network, it simply uses the Orange GSM network instead. Now if you put a usim into an Orange GSM phone, it simply accesses the Orange GSM network and can't see the UMTS one. Oh and it will be able to use the 2.5G GPRS system as well.
A bit wordy but I think it's clear.
also remember folks thats "3" use a 5volt sim card unlike every other uk network that still use the old 3volt cards.

3G network for O2 Mini?

Hi,
I'm just wondering if the 3g network/simcard will work on the O2 Mini?
This network is in Australia, so for those in Australia knows please let me know.
Cheers
im not sure, i dont think itl work cause the 3G simcards use a different voltage or something, you can use normal sims in some 3G phones but not the other way round...
3g
I have Orange USIM (3G) sim card and its workinhg on Magician without any problem
Some 2G SIM cards can also be used to access 3G networks and 3G services(these type of sim cards is sometimes used, for example in 3 Hong Kong). Some 3G SIM cards (like the ones they have on 3 Australia) are just 3G sim cards, meaning they wont work on 2G phones.
3G needs a special technology which is not available in mini' hardware. Mini users have to just stop with what we already have as they wont even release a WM5 i think so.
However to use 3G effectively you need a cam in the display's front!

Are you able to download at 3G speed? Pointless having a 3G simcard if you can't go faster than GPRS.
If a phone doesn't support UMTS then you won't get a faster speed than GPRS (or EDGE) no matter what sim you put in it.

o2 XDA Mini & 3

Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me if the XDA mini will work with a 3 Sim (Three the mobile company) once I have unlocked it, I'm not sure if its something I am doing wrong during the unlocking process or just that the handset is not compatible with the sim
Cheers
3 uses what they call a USIM rather than a SIM (it might be the real name for it I don't know)... This is 3G specific and as far as I know, won't work in anything other than a 3G phone.
Usim
I have had a look around a few sites, and some similair phones and the mini say they come with a USIM ??
hiya, yeah i have an O2 3G sim card with my mini xda.
3G - From 3
Hi Guys,
I guess the question i need the answer to is, can a 3G usim- From the UK provider Called "Three" work in an 02 XDA Mini ?
As far as I know "3" SIM cards only work in phones designated by "3"

USIM in HTC Wizard

Hi, I have a HTC wizard that I no longer use, I was wondering if anybody knows is it possible to use a USIM in htc wizard, obviously it would only work 2g but I dont mind that, I dropped the 3G phone I got on contract after just one month...now im stuck with a Nokia 6630.. and would prefer to use my wizard
I have an Orange USIM from a 3G phone that I was trialing that works fine in mine.
Orange USIM's are backwards compatible with 2G phones but not the other way round where Orange 2G SIM's dont work in 3G phones. However this may not be true of other networks.
