I have just installed the new official T-Mobile ROM. Using the Resco Registry editor, i went to enable the faster 'g' wifi hack (for better music steaming over my home ad-hoc wifi network).
However, it's seems the registry settings for enabling faster wifi are already set!
I am using the settings here...
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMask (dWord)
Value: 1
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG (dWord)
Value: 8
My wifi still seems slow, but the reg keys were already set to the values above.
Can anyone confirm this? Or am i missing something/doing something wrong?
Probably seems slow because it's a wizard...there's no way you're ever going to actually get 50 mbps out of it. Or anything significantly faster than 10 mbps. It's a wizard. I wouldn't be surprised if it's finally being enabled for the benefit of increasing numbers of people with "G only" routers.
I am aware of the wizards limitations, but the hack really did make a big difference (when i was using the old ROM).
Just wondering, has anyone on Sprint who is using any form of tethering been able to confirm and charges for use with or without a PAM plan? I have tried ICS and PDANet and both work perfectly, PDANet claims to be "under the radar" to Sprint but I would like some outside party to confirm this
yep, pdanet fools the network to think that you are using the phone to surf (which is fine) and that means u DO NOT need the PAM plan.
Yeah I can confirm this. It works AMAZING! No charges. I wouldn't recommend downloading MP3's or anything like that because you don't want to throw up any red flags. In other words I definitely wouldn't want to ditch my residential DSL for this, but browsing should still be fine.
Hmm so Sprint know if you're using Internet Sharing App even if you ask it to connect to the Sprint Vision vs Phone as Modem? Well I'm keeping my fingers cross and hope that they don't I actually like that program, makes tethering so much easier.

i like PDAnet a lot, despite the fact that i have to soft reset my phone to get the PC app to see it
alau was referring (i think) to the internet sharing app in WM6, and said it was easy to use, i was basically stating PDAnet is just as easy (if not easier) to use
yep finally hearing you guys raving pdanet so much i decided to give it a shot and you know what... it's easy. the only reason why i haven't tried it sooner is because i only tether my phone to my computer on occations actually it's just to my carputer and since i don't have active sync installed on that it's kind of hard, but now that i know better
Thanks guys

Sprint knows if you're tethering using Internet Sharing. The point of programs like PDANet and USB Modem is that they mask the tethering so Sprint can't tell.
Sprint (and other carriers) detecting tether...
For info only... please verify these findings for yourself.
Sprint and other carriers use the NAI info from your handset to determine whether you're surfing from the handset or using another device to tunnel (or tether).
Disabling multi-NAI will prevent the carrier from detecting your usage type and should prevent any charges to your account due to tethering.
Instructions for disabling multi-NAI are available on the forum and the WIKI.
Cheers,
Mick
LoL im just waiting to see a huge charge on my next bill..... I was downloading video podcast, ..... about 1 gig or so this month. Both on phone, and using USBModem.. We'll see....

What version of USBModem are you using? The Mogul isn't on the supported devices list and Mobile-Stream told me they think it might work, but aren't sure. Also, does it work with BT or just USB? I know there were BT issues when it was released for the Treo 755p.
***IMPORTANT*** - Before you modify registry settings, make a backup using SPB backup or Sprite Backup. I tried to tether before changing the registry, and my internet got locked out permanently. I had to hard reset my phone because I didn't have a backup. If this happens to you (it will say your vision username and pass are incorrect, no matter what you do) then you can restore your backup and try again. You shouldn't have this issue if you change the registry keys and connect first before attempting to use the internet sharing app.
Here's the registry keys you need to change to hide that you're tethering:
get a registry editor like total commander, and go into
HKLM --> Software --> OEM --> Wmodem
Set every key in there (I think there's 4 IIRC) to zero.
This will disable tethering detection, and then you can actually go into settings --> connections --> Manage Existing Connections (under Sprint),and then change your default connection method to "Phone as Modem" instead of Sprint PCS.
after changing the registry keys and connection settings, you will want to soft reset, and then when your phone boots back up, you need to connect to EVDO by opening internet explorer. Once you are connected, you can close internet explorer, open the internet sharing app, change the connection from sprint pcs to phone as modem and then click 'connect' to start your tethering. It will do the rest by itself.
As a note, using the PAM as the default connection setting will give you a boost in download speeds as well, from what I've seen and what others have reported. Happy tethering!

I've seen this edit to disable NAI. Do they do the same thing, or is there a difference?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\WModem\Multi-NAI default is 1, set to 0(00000000)

Now that I look at it, there are three keys to modify... CheckProfile, Multi-NAI, and WModemDUN.
I am thinking that the CheckProfile key allows the phone to check your profile on sprint to see if you have the PAM service.
I think the WModemDUN is disabled by default anyway, and am not sure what it does. But I do know that I can connect all day now using Phone as Modem and tether with no issues and no additional programs to install
I checked my registry and you're right, there's CheckProfile, Multi-NAI, and WModemDUN. The first two are 1, the last is 0. So set the other two to 0 and tethering will be undetectable? I figured all programs like PDANet and USBModem did were change these values as well as provide drivers and/or a GUI, but I wanted to be sure.
I won't be tethering often, but I am going through a ton of data on the Mogul itself by streaming music all day long. I went through five gigs the first month I had it. I wouldn't want Sprint to see all that data, see some tethering, and then hit me with any charges or cancel my service.
Did you need to install any drivers for your Mogul or did Windows detect it right away? I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 for what it's worth.
Guys I go into my registry & for the life of me I can't find the WModem menu.
I get into SOFTWARE-OEM & bam there is no Wmodem.
I am using Regedit. & am clueless.
THanks for the help.

you need PHM Registry editor found here: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\WModem
and set all the values to 0
ok, so if you disable all 3 then sprint wont see it as tethering then?
I am using regedit but the Wmodem is not visible on my device.
Found out what it was. I put the same regedit that i used on my smartphone & it is definitely different from the ppc version.
Thanks for the link.
x01ht may be different
The Softbank x01HT (HTC hermes branded for Japan) doesnt seem to have these reg. keys. All I've got is ChannelID.
I called softbank on this and, as expected, using it as a modem is "unsupported" but if I want to use it they'll be happy to charge me, despite my "unlimited packets" plan
Haven't trolled the forums for x01ht-specific solutions yet, but will have a poke around and see what I come up with.

I just found out, there is hidden "3G switch" support in HTC CommManager.
So there is no need to upgrade ROM with beta packages from Mega if you just want this feature.
To activate the 3G feature you need:
0. Kill CommManager process. (fdcsoft task manager is your friend).
1. add these regkeys
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\UMTS]
"OpMode"=dword:00000001
"PrefRAT"=dword:00000001
@=dword:00000000
"PrefDomain"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000000
2. you need to replace some item in CommManager GUI with 3G item:
For example if I want to replace "Bluetooth" I will change this key (before its value was "Bluetooth")
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\2]
@="3G"
3. copy these images to your windows folder
Function_3G.png
Function_3G_Disable.png
Thats it.
You can choose 3G or GSM with one click now =)
tested with HTC CommManager_2_7_5_0,
Iolite version,
from RUU_Iolite_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.11.707.1_Radio_Sign_12.4 1.30.16_0.41.30.12_Ship,
released 3/3/2009
3g connection
the problem is that in Kaiser WM6.1 latest radio(expected to be the best) or any other radios, when in 3g mode u cant make a call. It just starting to search operation.
Any solution for this will be highly appriciated by many ppl in the form
tnx in advance
there is an even easier way built in the new roms, my 3g coverage is crap at best
go to start/settings/personal/phone at the bottom of the screen go to (gsm/umts services) then in the box tap band then get settings and change from auto to gsm and all sorted this is an easier way if you dont need to be swapping and changing from one to the other.
This could be done absolutely ages ago with Advanced Configurator but thanks anyway
I think we need to start a thread to start investigating how to improve our data speeds on the networks we have (besides the PRL updates and VZ roaming that works for some people). A lot of ppl don't get 4g speeds where they live and get weak 3G speeds despite having strong connections.
I've done some research and I've found data hacks for other types of smart phones and I just wonder if any of these concepts could translate over to the Evo in some way, shape, or form:
Windows Mobile registry tweaks:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=110288
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=63811
Notes: Obviously Android does not have a registry system like Windows based systems, but might these settings corrolate to other system files?
Palm Pre ##data# Tweaks:
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-p...6242-increase-speed-your-evdo-connection.html
Notes: I haven't been able to find the buffer settings they refer to in any of the ## command menus
G1/Hero (GSM) Data Tweaks to build.prop:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595108
Notes: Again all of these tweaks are for GSM networks but might have comparable settings in CDMA
Thoughts?

Do you have a L950 with Interop Tools installed? If you do, I would really like for you to help me out by checking three registry settings on your phone so that I can try to force Call Recording to be enabled on my L640 and other devices where call recording isn't officially supported.
With your phone and Interop Tools, please browse to the below location:
Interop Tools -> Registry Browser -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Phone -> Settings ->
Can you please post the values for the below three keys on your handset?
PreferredRecordingApplication
RecordingFeatureDisabled
RecordingOff
Thanks so much for your help!

So, with those values in place, there is no change in the Phone nor the Phone settings apps on my L640. It looks like there are other keys that determine whether or not these UI elements are exposed.
Does anyone have any further ideas?
you cant enable call recording on Lumia 640 because native WP8.x devices not support it and simple registry value not change anything... only W10M devices (550, 650, 950 and 950XL) support call recording

They don't support it because... Why, exactly? Missing system files? Registry keys (Confirmed)? Firmware differences? Hardware deficiencies?
I'm sorry, but a simple "they don't" isn't sufficient. My Lumia 640 also didn't support DNG RAW until I changed a registry key, so... Yeah.
topic about this problem already exist... is not problem in registry or missing files...
most likely due to old firmware's but for now no hope for old devices.

Thank you. I'll try to seek out that thread to learn more.
my advice: forgot it. is nothing useful...
