WiFi 'G' reg tweak is already enabled in new T-Mobile ROM??? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have just installed the new official T-Mobile ROM. Using the Resco Registry editor, i went to enable the faster 'g' wifi hack (for better music steaming over my home ad-hoc wifi network).
However, it's seems the registry settings for enabling faster wifi are already set!
I am using the settings here...
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMask (dWord)
Value: 1
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG (dWord)
Value: 8
My wifi still seems slow, but the reg keys were already set to the values above.
Can anyone confirm this? Or am i missing something/doing something wrong?

Probably seems slow because it's a wizard...there's no way you're ever going to actually get 50 mbps out of it. Or anything significantly faster than 10 mbps. It's a wizard. I wouldn't be surprised if it's finally being enabled for the benefit of increasing numbers of people with "G only" routers.

I am aware of the wizards limitations, but the hack really did make a big difference (when i was using the old ROM).

MS Voice Command causes keyboard selector to be sloooooow

I finally figured out that MS Voice Command is the program that makes the keyboard input box be slow to appear. It was taking like 6 seconds to bring up the list to choose another input method. On my Jamin, I'm 100% sure that MS Voice is to blame. After uninstalling it the delay disappeared. This is a real drag since I used MS Voice all the time for making calls. I wonder if the K-jam has the same problem? Anyone have a work around for this problem?
Well spotted That's always the first step on the way to a solution. I also depend heavily on this software so I hope a work-around's available.

Could this be the cause of the thumbpad (T9 pad) not coming up all the time, requiring a soft reset? I'm using WM2003SE btw.
I aslo stopped using MS voice command on my JAMin. I did a hard reset and did not install PocketZenPhone, Phone Alarm and MS command.
Now my JAMin runs awesome! I can change the keyboards instantly and I can even use full screen keyboards which never would work before.
I do miss voice command but I can live without it. In fact the built in voice dialer is not bad. I don't miss having to say the full name and then home or mobile or whatever. The less I have to talk to my phone the less crazy i feel. Plus it works better over bluetooth headsets.

I encountered this prob about 4 months ago after upgrading my Xda2 to WM5.0. When I upgraded my device to the prophet, the exact same thing happened.
Here's my work-around:
1) Do a hard reset
2) Export the entire registry
3) Install MSVC
4) Import the registry saved in step 2
VOILA... now I have MSVC & a normal SIP change....
This is a great find. I've been trying to find out why my selector take 7 seconds to pull up. I thought it was keyboard skin or some other input program I installed. Didn't realize it was MSVC.
Now only if we can figure out which registry changes are causing this problem...

For those of you who don't have MSVC installed already, Step 1 is not necessary, i.e. no hard reset.
All you need to do is export the registry before installing MSVC, install MSVC and restore your registry.
I might have found something
I installed the trial of SKTools and was playing around with the "invalid registry entry" tool and deleted a few entries that were flagged. I remember one that had something to do with VC and started with a weird character "%a" or similar. Sorry that I can't remember better, but I did not realize right away that that fixed the problem, since I was only "cleaning up", but the keyboard selection is working well right now and that was the only thing I changed in the meantime that had anything to do with it. Hope that's the right direction.

Some tweaks may solve the problem.
I have a Cingular 8125 with 200Mhz CPU (reportedly running at 180Mhz only).
I use Omapclock to speed up PocketSNES, but it doesn't speed up the keyboard selector at all.
Also tried the Registry trick, but restoring the original Registry after installing Voice Command clears everything, settings, program icon... ... and disable Voice Command.
So it's not a good solution.
Finally tried to tweak the Registry (for generally speeding up WM5).
It's worked so perfectly for me.
The Keyboard Selector menu pops up in 1 second or less, almost instantly.
Before tweaking, even without Voice Command installed, it takes 2 to 4 seconds.
Here are the steps:

Is there any update on how we can fix this besides importing/exporting the registry after install?
I followed chaintox's directions for speeding up the device, which did seem to speed up some of the menu drawing and a few other things that it should have, but it did not help the speed of the choosing a SIP at all. I've removed all third party SIPs, and also disabled the PhonePad SIP, and it's still very slow (around 15-30 seconds).
I'm not willing to do a hard reset right now... is there anyone that has the registry export from before and after installing Voice Command? That would let me see exactly which keys were created, so I could look at removing some one by one until I find what's causing the slowdown.

I found out that the slow SIP selector bug has something related to AKU2.2 and up...
I reflashed back to the original dopod ROM with AKU 2.15 and my SIP selector is fast even with voicecommand installed.
I'm curious if AKU 3.3 has this bug and whether WM6 has this issue too? This was probably the primary reason for ditching the latest ROMs and sticking with the original.
Well, I installed Voice Command on an WM5.0 (no AKU) emulator image to get the registry diff, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Installing Voice Command also did not cause the SIP slowdown on the emulated PPC, so I tend to agree with everyone that it may be AKU2.2 specific. I'm curious to see the answer to mr_yellow's question about AKU3.3 or WM6... I may be willing to upgrade if it fixes this issue.
I just remembered that I did test AKU3.3 (I think i flashed AERGS's AKU3.3 ROM) and it did have the same laggy SIP selector bug/feature... so the only other option is WM6... Does anyone know if you the SIP selector is slow for WM6? This is for a G3 device (dopod818pro)...

I have been noticing that my input selector is really slow so after much digging around I came upon this thread and Chaintox's instructions.
However I read his first instruction to increase cache and followed that with a soft reset and now my JAMin isnt completing the soft reset
It is just hanging at the SPB safe mode menu reboot screen.
Is there anything I can do?

Wow, i forgot about this thread... I found a good workaround/solution. Not sure if it'll work on all devices. but it worked on my HTC Prophet.
Figured out the exact keys in the registry to import/export.

T-Mobile GPRS / EDGE GOOGLE FIX - regedit MTU setting

For those of you who cannot browse GOOGLE sites using the unlimited T-Mobile GPRS/EDGE plan do the following:
On your WM5 device, use a registry editor and do the following:
Go to HKLM\Comm\Cellular Line\Parms\tcpip
and add a DWORD registry key called MTU with value 1460 (UPDATED)
Open PocketIE/Opera/Netfront and go to any Google page you want!
Oh, and make sure your internet gateway is using:
internet2.voicestream.com
It seems as though the fix is not working for all cities.
I'm actually in New York City, so I guess the MTU values could be different in different areas. Works great on an MTU of 1460 in NYC.
You can try values from 1500 (default) all the way down to 1400.
Trial and error, if it does work for you though, please post the city and MTU value you got it working with.
Goodluck everyone. I have been struggling with this since February and am really pleased I have finally managed to resolve it.
If there are any other New York City T-Mobile users, please confirm the fix.

The following solution worked for me on my T-Mobile MDA. Note: the NdisWan key did not exist, I had to create it from scratch. Before adding the information below into my registry, I was unable to get past the initial google page. Now I can google anything, and use google maps too! And BTW I am in Long Island.
Change the MTU Settings for PPP Connections
Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NdisWan\Parameters
Add a Protocols subkey (if it does not already exist). To do so:
a. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
b. Type Protocols, and then press ENTER.
4. Add a 0 (zero) subkey to the Protocols subkey. To do so:
a. Click the Protocols subkey that you created step 3.
b. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
c. Type 0 (zero), and then press ENTER.
5. Click the 0 subkey that you created in step 4.
6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
7. In the Value data box, type ProtocolType, and then click OK.
8. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

This worked PERFECTLY! I'm in NYC as well and 1450 worked. (for what's it worth, that long process also described in this thread DID NOT work for me)

The registry fix for MTU of 1450 seems to be working in Dallas, thanks for the tip.
ok... so right after I added the editi in the registry it worked right away I was sitting at the starbucks on W35th and 7th. Then I went to a building right down the street and had to google something I couldn't access any google page.
I had great service in the building just no google pages which thought I had fixed. Now I can't access them from anywhere in the city again? the MTU edit is still in my registry.
Any ideas on this? thanks?
This worked for me, PHL market.
It allowed me to get to google.com.
However I still can't access any of the other google sites. (local/maps)
MTU of 1460 best
Have done some adittional testing, an MTU value of 1460 works best!
1450 sometimes works on all google sites other times not.
1460 seem to work all the time.

I'm using an 8525 with
CE5.2.1622 ( Build 18128.0.4.4 )
ROM 3.62.502.3 ( 10/11/07 )
Radio 1.16.00.00
Protocol Ver: 32.53.7018.01H
( Yes I used pof's SIM/CID Unlocker....way to go pof ! )
Anyway, I've tried adding these keys ( which, by the way, once I reboot the 8525, I lose all BUT the "ProtocolType" entries under the "0" key ), and setting my MTU from 1430 to 1460 as the original author suggested, and I can get past google.com, and it simply dies "Opening" gmail/calendar/maps.
THe funny thing is I'm running Xplode's WM6 ROM for BlueAngel on an older Siemens SX-66, and even though it DOESN'T have any of these entries mentioned, it works....I can go to gmail just fine, even without the registry settings.
Has ANYONE gotten a consistent solution to this ? Is there any particular ROM image someone can recommend to move to that includes fixes for this ?

Updated Radio ....still doesn't work.
I updated the Radio ROM To 1.54.30.10, and it still doesn't work. Even though now, I have 2 "cellular line" entries in the HKLM\COMM section of the registry.
HTC P6500 & HP IPaq 614c PPP Protocol MTU
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if any can look over my problem and possibly offer some advice?
I have a problem probably generic to most PDA devices where i can not change the MTU size for the PPP Protocol.
I have made the changes as advised in this thread and neither have worked for me, the MTU is still default 1500.
Changes made are as follows:
"HKLM\Comm\Cellular Line\Parms\tcpip" Set to 1450, MSS is still 1460
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NdisWan\Parameters\Protocols\0" and also changed \Parameters to \Parms as they all within Registry on WM6 and set ProtocolMTU, PPPProtocolType and ProtocolType as in XP, MTU set to 1450 but the MSS is still 1460.
I am using Windows Mobile 6.
The tool i use on the PDA is the Microsoft Power Toys Analyzer, copy the file to my XP machine and open the netlog0 file with Wireshark and investigate the capture.
The latter of the two keys is how the MTU is changed on a Windows XP machine.
I do know that data cards connected to a PC that use the WWAN protocol for GPRS connection will list a Wireless Network Interface card and for that the MTU would be changed under the network adapter itself, if they are using the PPP Protocol and listed as a Dial Up adapter the the latter key above must be used, all tested and works a treat.
I am imaging that PDA devices must work in the same way.
The devices i am currently using definatly use the PPP Protocol to connect, can anyone advice how this MTU is changed or even advice how to tweak registry to get GPRS to use WWAN, the latter may be impossible for me as i am not a software developer, tweaks i can handle.

REQ: Tool/shortcut o switch from 3g to GSM and back

I tried this in another thread a while ago but as nobody even replied I thought I should try it again before I completely give up
Is there a tool (or can someone code one maybe?) to switch between 3G and GSM without going the "normal" route of
Settings-Phone-Options-Band(or whatever it´s called in the english version) and then change it to either WCDMA, GSM or Auto. Of course you will have to disconnect any active connection before you can do that.
A tool to accomplish the same thing would really help in improving battery life as with it you could switch to 3g only if needed (websurfing) and leave it in GSM mode most of the time.
If a tool is impossible to create, a shortcut to make the procedure above easier would help. too.

You could try writing a macro using mortscript - it can simulate taps on the
screen. And yes, I'd like to have such a tool, too..
Thanks for the Mortscript hint. I managed to write a tiny little scriptlet (it´s ridiculous really, but it does the job) that does the following through stylus tap simulation and app calls:
- Open the Phonepad
- open the options dialog
- select the "Band" tab
- change the band selection from 3g to GSM without clicking OK
- call a subscript which disconnects the current connection (otherwise a bandchange is not possible). The subscript is necessary as Mortscript will not process any command that comes after a "Disconnect"
- here I would like to click OK. But for the love of god...I can´t find the right coordinates on my Trion. Can anyone help?
- here I would like to close the phonepad again

I´m pretty sure most of it can be done through SendTab/SendDown etc. Figured that out a little too late. Might clean it up a bit to make it less resolution-dependent.

Even without the last two steps it is rather useful. When you call the script it will do everything except press OK for you.

3G mode.

Ok, I cleaned up the two Mortscript scriplets to just use sendkeys. No more stylus tap simulation, makes it a lot more reliable.
Executing either script will now open the phonepad, go to options-band, diconnect the current connection and then change the band.
Unfortunately closing the phonepad doesn´t work riliably as it will leave the phonepad screen in the foreground and the UI will freeze.
Maybe someone a little more gifted can make this more interactive (e.g. ead what app is active and switch back to it after the band change or something).
For me it is good enough for now.
If anyone wants it, let me know.

VERY clumsy and thrown together in a couple of minutes. Should work on any Trion etc.
You will have to edit the window captions and paths as I did this on a German ROM.
"Telefon" is "phone" or whatever the phonepad caption/link to the phonepad is called.
Works on my Trion. Improvements as mentioned above more than welcome.

step#2: flick device radio to flight mode on and then off
Also, step #2 will restart the radio regardles of established connection is present or not.
alternitevely if you would like to close data connection gracefully:
call datadisconnect.exe located in \windows. nice utility btw. it surely has CLI mode as well.
any C / C++ programmer should be able to get this project done in few hours at most.

call datadisconnect.exe located in \windows. nice utility btw. it surely has CLI mode as well.
any C / C++ programmer should be able to get this project done in few hours at most.

Great! As I said before, I just did this to have something (not much, I know).
Wouldn´t the "disadvantage" be, though, that you would have to enter your pin every time flightmode is turned off?
Do you know what registry entries this would be?
Is it HKLM,Software\OEM\UMTS,OpMode ? And if so, what would be the values for 3g, GSM and Auto?
EDIT: Think I found it. Auto=0, GSM=1, 3g=2
Is this correct?
Plus, is there any shortcut you can run to toggle flightmode? If so, these two things could be put into another Mortscript scriptlet (it can change the registry).

did a test over the last day I disabled incoming beams (which I've had ticked all the time apparently ) and I manually put the phone into 2g mode but had it connected all the time to gprs. man the battery life more than doubled I've still got 70% battery left after a heavy days of usage.
but I miss 3g speeds for web browsing tho. so I think a tool for 2g to 3g and back would be most appreciated preferably not using mortscript and with a message saying "switching to Xg mode" or something. unfortunately my programming skills are nearly non existant.

Install Flightmode.exe from WinMobileApps.com and run it via MortScript.

Use OpMode, 1 for GSM only and 0 for Auto.

Yeah, it is funny indeed. But the solution you found yourself hasn't been posted here so I was thinking it should be added so people in this forum can find it. This is the international forum to share information at.
Anyway, thank you for the great solution! It really works fine and I still have the great runtime of my Trion together with fast UMTS where I need/want it. I think this has a high value!
GSM & 3G switching via Skschema Scripts
Hi folks,
I know some of you have beens using Mortscript to change the network band in the registry and subsequently switch to 3G or GSM by clicking.
Well I had a look at seeing if I could do something similiar using a SKschema script.
This is what I have come up with so far.
Skschema has commands which allow it to switch the radio(gsm) on/off as well as writing and deleting values/keys to the registry. (Tested on the Hermes)
SwitchToGSM.sksc
This script Writes to registry the value "1" for OpMode, pauses 1 second, turns radio off, turns radio on and connects to your data connection(GPRS ONLY).

You could assign both these Skschema scripts to a hardware buttons, even better if you use the voice notes button on the Hermes you could use one script for [press] and the other for [press & hold].
toggle2G_3G.sksc
This script I have tried to add some intelligence into the script, I wanted to use a script for 1 hardware button and for just one [press] to switch to GSM then a second [press] to 3G - so it really toggles between the two modes.
To achieve this I used a little bit of logic and an extra key in the registry.

This is how the script works the "rad" key which I have put in the Skschema registry path, is completely functionless - It's merely there as a check.
The script firstly checks to see if this key exists?
If it does then the script moves along to the "set2G" line.
If it doesn't then the script continues, The OpMode value is changed to "0" - enables AUTO mode. Then the "rad" key is created and the script moves along to the "act" label.
following along from above at the "set2G" label, OpMode value is changed to "1" - enables GSM mode only. Then the "rad" key is deleted and the script moves along to the "act" label.
At the "act" label the current data connection (if present or not) is disconnected, a pause before doing this of 1 second, the radio is switched off with another pause of 1 second, followed by switching the radio back on. Finally the data connection is re-connected.
The "rad" key is used to enable the script to decide which switching is required to GSM or to 3G.
Maybe a similar toggle action in one script could be done in Mortscript?

Can someone tell me which registry keys to change, to enable Band selection using registry editor? The cab file mentioned did nothing on my device when I clicked on it.
I looked in WM5_Tweaks_Other and saw nothing refering to band selection. Thanks.
Hi. I am doing a program with a botton icon to do this.
to activate only gprs:
1) Change the registry.
2) turn radio off.
3) turn radio on.
but only when i turn off the radio using comm panel the system "refresh" its data from registry and then it works. Any idea?

Automatic WiFi on startup (Hermes 200)?

Hello,
I'm new here (so please don't shoot me, i'm quite a rookie) and I've been doing a lot of search-work, unfortunately without result yet.
I'm trying to modify the registry for automatic WiFi "on" when the Hermes 200
is starting up after a power down.
Is there any possibility by modifying the registry or do I have to go deeper (dll, ROM etc?). I allready tried changing some settings in the registry without any result.
Some information:
PPC: HTC TyTn (Hermes 200)
OS: WM 5.0
ROM: 2.11.254.1
I would be very gratefull if anyone can point me in the right direction!

Well, now we have succeeded in turning on Wifi the next issue to overcome is: Automatic connection to a preffered Wifi Access point. But how?
I suggest the tiny program vijay555 wrote does dynamicly change some registry settings (binary strings) to invoke the desired actions. Or do I think too easy?

Wireless N support?

Has anyone confirmed that the Tmo US HD2 also has support for wireless n networks just like the euro version?
It's the same hardware aside rom the ROM, so techincally yes, and just like the Euro version it requires some registry tweaks to enable since it's not officially supported on either.
Yes you Can Enabled Wireless N Support
All you got to do is download a regedit for the HTC HD 2 and the the following Tweak:
You can enable it and benefit from N technology by editing the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms and change the value of 11nModeDisable from 1 to 0.
This Tweak worked for me.
