I currently have a touch pro2 aka rhodium and was wondering if i should upgrade to hd2. Can you please give your review of it and what made your choose the hd2?
going from pro2 to HD2 you would gain on screen size, you would lose your brick and tactile keyboard. If you enjoy the software keyboard, you wont be missing the old hardware one bit.
Only downside might be the dead end of the HD2 OS.
The reason I am replying to your query, is that I was obsessed with the pro2 and am thankful i waited for the HD2.
I'm now looking forward to Android on the HD2, which I believe may even come from HTC as MS has pretty much shut the door in HTC face!
Whilst this has been my best mobile device ever, i would suggest waiting a touch (no pun intended), to see what OS choices you will have on the HD2. Of course if you can, the EVO should be of interest to you as well.
I had the Hero for a day, and if it had a larger screen, it would have been my choice.
Check out the Desire as well, similar size to yours 3.7 but better screen and running Android.
That would be my choice due to the WM6.5 fiasco!
Hope this helps.

Hello everyone!
I need a piece of advice. I want to replace my Blackstone, to buy a new phone and I'm hesitating! If I was to buy a WM device, I would surely buy the Leo, since it appears to me that it's the best one, what's more, it will have an official upgrade to WM 7!
But I'm wavering because I saw pictures of the Sony X10 which seems also very nice. Both of them have capacitive screens, but won't be multitouch till they get their upgrade (to WM7 for Leo and to Android 2.0 for X10), they both have snapdragon, but none of them have an AMOLED screen.
So the question is, if I'm used to WM, will I like Android? Are there enough applications? Games? etc
Another question also, is the HD2 like the HD? I mean, do they have great hardware but no drivers to use it?
Thank you for your answers!
I think this is again, a bit of apples and oranges comparison because of the OS. You have thrown in though some of the points I would question as well. The biggest point was with the WM7 coming through the pipes and whether Android and the X10's new features are enough to bring you across.
Again for me, I'm still more excited about the HD2 because in a way, it's like buying two different phones in one. In the sense, you are getting the best of today's 6.5 right now and since it's upgradable to WM7, it will feel like a completely new phone again by the end of the year. Keep in mind as well the HD2 is good to go now with HDSPL and cooked roms. The X10 hasn't even made it out of the gate yet.
At this point, those who chose the X10 are all wishing they went the HD2 route because by then, the X10 has become boring now. All phones slowly get boring as we all went the latest stuff when it comes out. THE HD2 Gives you that.....Now and Later.
Hope this helped...
If you want AMOLED go for the OMNIA 2.I heard it is a great display.
And yes the HD2 has the same DRIVERS issue.I mean great harware and no drivers.

Sorry about the second post.
Some computer issues.
You might want to check Google phone Nexus One - HTC's first AMOLED with Snapdragon and Android...
I know about the Nexus One, but I don't like it because it has a resistive screen, right? so it won't have multitouch, even with a software upgrade!
Ok, it seems like I was wrong ^^

So, now, I'm also considering the Nexus One as a good candidate ^^
Hi there,
I'm hoping for some advice from current phone users. I need to upgrade my dying Artemis. I'm deciding between the HD2 and Touch2 - because they're both WinMo phones (I know, I hate that, but I depend heavily on outlook and little baby won't give me the time or chance to change my ways).
Can people guide me as to why I should buy either phone (needs to be T-Mobile)
I need standard phone functionality, along with GPS/Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Wifi would be nice
Thanks
Don't get the Touch 2. Its the weakest HTC phone of 2009. Its small, it has very little resources, and runs slow (I've played with it). The resolution is smaller than on the HD2.
Just the specs should make you never consider the touch 2. Of course, all of the arguments are compared to the HD2's specs.

Both of them have the functions you are looking for.
If you plan to write emails on it and you have the budget for the HD2, which is way more expensive than the touch 2, you should go for the HD2, because the Touch 2, with the smaller screen presents more problems on text input.
Please let me know if I can provide more information.
I own a touch 2, but i played a lot on an HD2.
Best Regards.
I own both.
my Girlfriend has the touch2
I have the HD2
I prefer the HD2 because of the bigger screen, better resolution better camera, ...
but the touch2 is a fine device that can also do whatever is needed.
my girlfriend prefers the touch2. ironically also because of the size (she prefers smaller devices)
it all depends on:
*how much do you want to spend on it.
*how big are your hands ;-)
Do not buy Mega for its camera, it really suc!/;##ks, at least mine does ....
for some people the camera isn't important ;-)
If you are willing to spend the money on the hd2 then go for it. It is the highest end winmo device available, supplying everything winmo has to offer, including some new features such as multitouch. The touch2 is a midrange phone, but fully capable of everyday tasks, but is nowhere near the power and multimedia capabilities of the hd2.
Mighty-Leo Pwns Iphone!
You Must buy the Mighty-Leo phone you will regret not having such awesomeness in your hands as others bow down to your glory
I hae had WinMo for years now with various handsets. Time for me to move on. I have played with the Desire HD rom on my HD2 and I like it. Now WP7 looks really good too.
I want to get one or the other in terms of handset.
They both have similar but also diff specs.
HD7 5mpx cam - DHD 8mpx cam
HD7 No radio - DHD has radio
HD7 No flash support - DHD has flash support
HD7 No DLNA - DHD has DLNA
Both have great UIs
Both have Dolby Sound
I can't decide.
I don't have the attention to give you "the" answer; but maybe this can help you.
Make a list of what you need. (important)
make a list on what you will (les important)
Think on your experience and think on the problems you have got in the past and you certainly dont will again.
Think on the future (I mean next mouth you will have need something GPS...?)
So now you have a list and you can start to look witch device gives you the most of your needs.
okay this was based on needs now you can compare with taste.
in it's current state wp7 devices are NOT an upgrade to the HD2. I am going to wait this one out as I believe that my HD2 will last me at least another 2 years and then we'll see if the WP7 platform has things that I want in my phone
1. copy paste
2. tethering
3. expandable storage
4. 3rd part app multi-tasking
4. displays better than the sub 1280*800 displays we have now
If I were you, I would just wait till Cotulla finishes the work on WP7 so we can all try it on our HD2 devices. Then if you're interested in it go for the WP7 otherwise go for the Desire which you said you've played with it and liked it.

Hi Tboy2000,
Havent you answered your own question with the pros/cons list above? I would take the Desire HD. WP7 needs time to develop, and the HD7 seems to offer less than the HD2.
I was soo wanting the desire HD when it was announced, but since trying it on my hd2 its great and all, but my hd2 can do so much more, the only advantage i see over the hd2 is the camera other than that for me the hd2 wins hands down. WP7 is the same (as much) hardware as the hd2, so for me im sticking with the hd2 until a better processor/camera/build.
JR
..
Wait at least month after both devices are released. But I don't hold any hopes for WP7. I don't see why anyone should want it.
Thanks for the comments guys. I guess I wanted to make a decision soon because I would want to sell my HD2 and put the money to a new handset and if I wait and wait, the value of the HD2 will drop further. They go for around 220 pounds on ebay. I want a HD7 because the OS is NEW and will flourish and develop further over time and developers are supporting it well. However Desire HD is so much better than Desire and the new HTC OS tweaks make it an excellent phone. I just can't decide lol!
if my HD2 would stop working , i think i would buy the Desire HD.
But since my HD2 still works i'll stick to that since i can run Desire HD Android aswell as windows 6.5
HD2. Hands down. It almost has the same features as Desire HD except Desire HD has more RAM, and a better camera. So, HD2.
I had a HD2, but unfortunately 'she' died last Sunday. I read ALOT about the new HTC Windows 7 and Android devices. I also talked with some professional developers and they advised me to go for Android. Why? It's a well developed OS with lots of applications and games. Most application- and game developers are investing in IOS and Android. Windows 7 is a good looking OS, but it lacks many applications and games. It needs time to grow up...I don't want to wait, I want to enjoy my phone.

With the list you have there, seems like a pretty lop sided comparison if you ask me...
Since you have an HD2 right now, just wait until you can play with an HD7 a bit before you make a decision.
This all comes down to personal taste and there have been some good comments and tipps for you to decide what phone would be better for you.
In my opinion, I have tried Android long enough to know that I won't buy any Android-phone until the OS would be completely changed from scratch.
Android is ugly, complicated, unstable and fragmented. My 2.5year-old Diamond with WM6.1 is running more reliable than the Desire.
I will stay with my HD2 with WM6.5.3 for the time being and will step to WindowsPhone7 once the hardware is getting better.
The HD2, has introduced me to both WP7 and Android.
One day I load up WP7 and say to myself, this is the perfect operating system why do I need anything else.
The the next day I boot into Android and say the same.
Then I think I should sell my HD2 and buy a HD7, then I think NO, I should buy a Desire HD, then I think I should keep the HD2.
Problem is you can still get some money for a HD2 and be able to put it towards a newer phone, can't justify buying another phone.
Here are my confused thoughts, Android seems to be getting more and more fragmented, probably best to wait until the new dual cores arrive, or I could add cash to the sale of my HD2 and get a brilliant Desire HD, but then will this be any better than I already have.
Or I could go the route of WP7 and get a HD7, the future looks new and fresh for this operating system, as am not entirely sure how long Microsoft will allow us HD2 owners to use activation codes, will future updates continue by the amazing DFT team, will Microsoft put a stop to it all, so many if's, so If I go for an official HD7 I would not have to worry about all this.
Sorry to ramble on about this, but as you can see I am confused.
So I need the straight to the point style XDA members to kick me up the bum and give there polished advice?
There is no phone with significant hardware upgrades over the HD2 besides maybe the Atrix, but I wouldn't waste my time with that motocrap. Selling the device now instead of later might yield even up to $100 more but IMO it's not worth it, you can run WM6.5, Android, and WP7 (nodo soon).
If you buy an HD7 I can almost guarantee you will regret that decision in about a week or less, the HD2 is the exact same phone except multi-touch doesn't work quite as well and that's it. what other Android device you gonna buy, DHD really? Why? ok the display is a little better, not worth the hassle. Wait until an Evo3D type of device comes to GSM, big screen, Sense, dual-core, good stuff.
If I were you I'd stick with my HD2 till something significantly better in the Android world comes out, or an iPhone 5.
I think it's not worth to upgrade. The spec of HD7 and Desire HD are more or less the same to HD2.
Sounds like upgrading just for the sake of an upgrade. My contract date is due in 6 weeks, I'll be keeping the Leo and just dropping to a sim only contract for less than half the price. The money I save ill be buying a spare Leo for when mine finally snaps.(broken screen, not rigid anymore,,, the adrenaline surges when you hear it bend and creak in your pocket, lemme tell you!)
what I think is,
firstly, you need to ask yourself which system you prefer more.
I have used both of android and WP7. What I learned is that even Leo can run both of them, it cannot show all the advantage.
For example, I got a Dell streak running an android 2.2. I found that the battery consumption, the camera quality, the speaker volume and so on are so much better than my Leo with Froyo, although the main hardwares of Leo and Streak are supposed to be exactly the same. These maybe due to the driver faulty when being ported.
And I got an HD7 as well. The reason I bought HD7 is that I'm sick of using the physical button on my Leo. And also there is no physical shutter and auto focusing on Leo. Don't you think when you're taking picture with your Leo, the image looks really bad? Without this, you may not really experience the most advantage of WP7 - social network.
Personally, I'll go for the HD7. If you buy a DHD, I pretty sure you'll regret that because it'll sometimes be really laggy, and this would be a common problem of all android device currently (because I had never try any dual-core phone). Now I already put my Dell Streak aside because as a phone and as a communication tool WP7 is amazing.
I'll never go for iPhones. I hate iTune... haha
Camera quality in android is both drivers and HTC's fault, if there is anything to blame, I found images pleasing, although it was a bit aggresive with sharpening. HTC's fault being their imaging algorithim may not be up to par with the streak's own, as you say. Driver's fault in being that the camera driver is not entirely the HD2's own.
Well any experienced HD2 user knows full well WP7 on the HD2 doesn't give us auto focus. hence why a dev developed a camera app that lets us auto focus.
Now stock rom of a dhd? More likely it will be "laggy", aren't all android stock roms "laggy" anyways? But on a custom rom it will perform better. But the "laggy" doesn't come from android, it comes from HTC sense. Hence why non sense builds perform so nicely. So yeah, i'm just pointing out that not all android devices face this problem, nor do they have to. The solution is to simply install a non sense build.

well, the camera may be my personal problem. I was just making an example. to me, taking photo anywhere and sharing it on facebook, flickr whatever immediately is very cool. That's why i can't accept an HD2 with WP7.
for the android, based on my experience, the lag doesn't come from android itself. it's due to the way it runs. Not only the HTC sense will make the device laggy, dell stage is also doing the same thing. Every time when I'm sliding from screen to screen, as long as the background data or auto sync is on and I turn to a screen which got a widget needing to download or refresh, it could be laggy. For example, the HTC Favorite and some news feed widgets. I also tried the ADW launcher, it's the same. The more widgets, the more laggy it is. and working with Wifi would be better than only running on 3G network. I also tried some customized roms. It is much better than the stock rom indeed and the one with original laucher is really the best as you said. but I'm a guy who like eyes candies...compared to iOS and WP7, this lag is really intolerable, at least to me...
in term of Market Apps, Iphone is best. So many useful apps and can be easily downloaded.
You can easily get bored with the GUI, just the same as WP7.
Android is good, I have both HTC Aria and HTC Desire Z. Even their processor speed is lower than HD2, but it runs faster (default clock). But, I hate that I cant download commercial apps in the Android Market (not open in my region)
My HD2 will either be sold (if someone is willing to buy) or kept it as a portable wifi router
Cheers
keep the Leo
My personal experiences with Android and WP7 phones weren't anything spectacular.
My Leo is definitely better than either for what I use it for.
I will not be upgrading anytime soon unless something really spectacular comes out that just blows me away.
My advice, stick with your Leo, run WP7 on it and dual boot with Android on SD.
Win-win
