Anyone else notice the the camera in 2.1 takes REALLY crappy pics compared to the camera in 1.5. I know its just software differences but I noticed a big quality decrease when i went from 1.5 to 2.1.

I've seen a huge drop in video.
Mine is the same
Hmm... I don't take very many pictures, but I haven't notices this. Have you checked the settings? Make sure the Resolution is on 5M. Make sure that widescreen is checked (I have noticed better quality when in widescreen) and I would turn auto-focus off. Then come back and tell us how it looks.
funny, I've noticed the opposite. mine takes better pictures now.
have noticed that the quality has dropped in 2.1 from 1.5 I have checked the settings and made identical to what they were in 1.5

Guys, don't use the native camera app. Use an app called "FxCamera" on the market. The quality of the pictures it takes is RIDICULOUSLY better than the native app. Trust me.
Hello,
YES!, YES!, I know I'm noob....my first post yeah...OK to the question, when I take pictures using my HD2, and send them to my computer, the pictures don't like as neat and high def as the samples on the phone. I was just wondering if there is way to make it at least a bit more crisp and decent looking than the poor quality and blurness that i get now. The resolution is set to the highest..contrast normal, etc..ANY TIPS...Thank you...
get your hands on BsB Tweaks. Simple .cab install. It has a few options for 'hidden' settings for the camera and camcorder.
I'll do thanks...will that me it sharper??
Honestly I've not done a lot of comparisons, but it does add a SUPERFINE option to the camera, so that has to be worth something!
Finehood, what's the highest resolution setting you see in your camera menu? There should be a 5MP (2592x1552) setting available on there...it's on the second page of resolution options so make sure you didn't miss that.
If you don't see it there, then the BsB option jimbonics mentioned will add that in addition to the "superfine" mode. It also adds a couple of other modes you might like, so it's worth checking out. If you can't or won't use BsB, then they're available as just a regular cab too.
thanks...guys..
thank you guys....and yes I do have it in 5mp, but still the quality looks awful, but I'll be getting the bsb tweak...that sounds like it might fix my problems..any other suggestion is welcome!!!!THANK YOU

(the last one on that list is what we've already suggested above)
thanks again...
good tips...I'll keep you guys post it if it gets better!!
Are you having a lot of noise problems ? Unfortunately that's not going to go away. If you're expecting some quality pictures like what a real camera would take you'll be quite disappointed . I've tried tweaking it myself left and right and every which way possible. I've seen some sample pictures from the EVO and even with it's 8MP cam it does not look a whole lot better.
good to know..
actually, u know what..i kind of knew that it would never be close to a regular picture cam, but with the high megapixels at least i was expecting something decent...but thank you...I did the bsb tweaks and got a bit better...the hidden tricks are all right...thanks everyone..
the fact is HD2 cam is poorer than HD's. I have both devices, HD in default (auto) settings takes very well pix, and HD2 (even after tweaks) takes puctures "ugly". The overall temperature of the shot is in grey tones domination, while HD take very realistic, closer to simple digicams. If anybody has an answers, please comment. Would be great if we will be able to take pix even just HD does.
When you take a picture and look at it from your computer is the size of the picture the same as the HD2's screen?
I'll usually just right click on the picture and send it to paint, click on image, then stretch/skew function. I'll reduce it to at least 50% / 50% and work my way down from there. That usually increases the image quality for me. I don't need a picture the size of three of my computer screens. Hope it helps.
When in doubt my friend photoshop is your friend
right...
photoshop will do the fixing for us....jiji...but like i said before i was just wondering if there was a way to make it better...like a tweak or a .cab, etc. bsb is not bad, but it doen't make the image any better in quality...but good tweak really good tweaks..

What we have here folks is a hardware problem not a software problem. Well actually a little bit of both . All the software tweaks out there does help a bit compared to the stock camera but that's as far as your going to get. Software can only do so much and there isn't a magical software solution when you are coupled with a lousy quality camera lens. The fact is HTC has probably cheapened out the quality of the camera lens compared to earlier phones but regardless the HD2 is a phone first not a camera. Short of replacing the whole lens there's very little software can do when the hardware isn't up to par.
I've had my HD2 since June 30th and believe me this thing takes MUCH BETTER pics than my Blackberry Bold 9700 did at 3.2MP and that phone took some really nice pictures.
I think it depends on the environment your in at the time. I took a few close up pics of my Wife and kids and those images came out beautiful. I also took some scenery shots in landscape and those images came out awsome as well. I took some pics inside the Tennessee Aquarium and had mixed results. As long as the lighting was good the images came out great. In darker settings the images were not as sharp.
I do use BsB Tweeks and I also have my resolution set to 5MP. I'm not sure why your camera is producing such awful images but I'm very pleased with mine.

Is it awful? He never posted any samples of his pictures. Are you really pleased because I'm not. How good the pictures actually look to an individual are highly subjective. I would hardly consider the pictures I've taken pleasing but I'm just going to have to settle.
I think the problem here is that finehood is really picky and had high expectations. I'm assuming what he had in mind were quality pictures closer to that of a real camera.
Sounds like user error to me. Try wiping your lens before taking pics. . My HD2 takes great pics.
Pop...
Take a picture at max resolution. Then copy that picture over to your pc. View that picture at 100%. You'll see it looks like ass.
hey guys...
i was reading some of the posts, and it makes sense, believe me I never got the wild idea of a phone cam being equal or better quality than a normal cam... but even with the 5 mp and the tweaks and considering light issues or environment surrounding your pics is not even close to a decent quality that's all I'm saying, the pictures look BEAUTIFUL on your phone, really neat and crisp, once you transfer your pics to a computer and see it in full scale you'll know what I'm talking about...blurriness, blur edges, sometimes pixelete images mainly in the face, I'm happy with the phone....and all it does, but I WAS JUST WONDERING if there was a way to make it a bit better...BSB Tweaks did some adjustments...thanks for the feedback guys, I'll be posting some pics shortly..so you guys get the idea....
I remember coming from the Touch Pro, that it had some sort of Sport Mode, were it take about 5 pics at the same time.
Is that possible with our Hero?
What Camera App is Better than the Stock One?

Vignette has kind-of like a shutter feature. Check it out.
camera360 is my personal fav
I have tried both vignette and camera 360 both are great apps i like the interface of camera 360 more myself and went with that one. It takes amazing pictures. The difference from the stock camera in CM6 and camera360 is night and day even though the hardware is the same.
The stock camera always produced blurry photos which is why i started looking for something better and i found it. I use my phone as my job-site camera, my internet access, and of course my phone. once i switched to camera360 my project manager jokingly said he could see the ants crawling up the building from 100 ft away.
Test them both out though your preferences may be different. you can always return the one you don't like.
BTW loving CM6 for hero. It makes my hero functional. I use to waste so much time waiting on stock sprint and Sense UI to finish lagging.
Hey guys, new here to Android and it millions of bells and whistles....
I have a question, the camera takes agreat pictures, provided that the camera and subject are perfectly still. Any type of movement and you are left with a blur.
I was wondering if this shutter speed is a hardware issue or software? If it's software, is there any patch or build that can be added to a temp rooted phone (VISIONary)?
Or a dumb question....is it a setting that I need to tweak???? right now it's all set to HD, superfine, yara yara yara....all the user settings are on max....
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if shutter speed is to blame at all. Seems like all the htc cameras frigging suck. I still have my old n97 and ill tell ya, its pics look way better than any htc android phone. I have an awesome point n shoot. But every now and then I have to use my phone, I don't walk around with my cybershot everywhere I go. I don't expect dslr like quality pics. But I think htc should read a page from nokias book.
I also hope there is a tweak for this. I love the G2 but my Vibrant was reigned supreme on everything picture related. Please let there be a fix, including even the samsung galaxy S camera app.

Wow really???? I tried the vibran, and the main reason I stayed away was because the camera sucked!!!1 and no Flash what gives????
The [email protected] IMHO is far superior taking pics than the vibrant, but neither trump the camera on my BB8900 with 3.2 MP. I over a thousand pics with that phone....some that have been enlarged to 8.5 x 11 and are hanging on my walls....I can't say that I see myself hanging anything taken with the G2...and that is very unfortunate!!!

Absolutely, the Vibrant camera and software is superior, the camera takes a picture immediately. The application is amazing with touch to focus and several quality presets (panorama sport burst, etc.) It does have a lack of flash which sucks but the night mode almost makes up for it. it feels like forever to take a picture with the G2. like OP said, if the subject of the picture moves within the shutter period, a big blur is the result.

dude I had a vibrant. Its camera takes much better pics than the g2. The vibrants video capture is much smoother and better detailed too. Its still not as good as my old n900 and n97.
I'd kill for a nokia branded android phone. I hope meego flops lol.
Also, I had a curve 8900 and a bold 9700. Worse cameras ever unless u were taking pics of documents. I can honestly say that those blackberrys pics were better than a g1 but no where near as nice as the vibrants.
My N1 took very crisp photos but even with little motion the G2 looks like crap there has to be a software fix for this

well now that u mention it, my n1 did take less blurry pics than my g2; but I think the g2's pics look a hair better as long as the subject doesn't move.
The day will come when nude chicks r jumping on a trampoline and I hope for the g2's sake that those pics wont come out blurry. Otherwise it may meet a blender lol
the G2 has the best camera i have used in a long time on a phone. i have had 6 phones this year alone and the G2 has the best camera out of all of them, and it has flash and a dedicated button on the side. vibrant was one of the phones i had in the past and the lack of flash and dedicated button really bugged me after a while. odds are once we get custom ROMs and CM6 there will be improvements on the camera including touch to focus(the only thing i liked about the vibrant)

Same with every phone I've ever had... if you move it the pictures suck.
what happens if you disable the autofocus?
This could improve the pictures.
Hi guys,
I have just got an GT-i9506 and I'm loving the size, speed and how smooth everything feels, compared to the S3 I had previously.
BUT I think I am having an issue with the camera.
I can take great photos, but the focus when close up or macro is horrible.
On my S3 if I got a little too close, I would hold the phone further back, focus on my subject, move a bit closer and focus again and so on until I was as close as I wanted to be and I was able to take the shot.
I can't seem to get this technique to work on this phone.
I find, even taking shots from a far (which the camera focuses fine with), when I zoom in after the photo is taken, the quality is horrible.
For once, heavily sharpening my images in post-production in apps like VSCO is actually helping!
Is anyone else seeing a drop in camera quality compared to older devices like the S3?
Any recommended settings in the stock camera, flashable fixes or apps people would recommend over the stock camera for this device?
Thanks
