I'm running WM 6.1 on my HTC Snap. Recently I installed TomTom navigation software. It works perfect, only the screen is turned off after about 30 seconds /1 minute of inactivity. Is there some sort of exception list for the tomtom exe so I can still use it.

I use Garmin myself but TomTom should have a similar setting.. look for a setting that disables home screen timeout so as long as the program is open the screen will not turn off.
Just a heads up. You can download my program here which fixes this problem.

Can TT5 be minimised so it is in the background all the time or do you always have to exit the application?
well i have just tried, and you can press the txt button and it will take you out but when you close it, it goes back to tomtom. So that would be a NO

The problem is not if TT5 (or TT6) can be minimised, it can, but how. A solution is using one or more utilities to map a hardware buttons to the required functions.
In my case (but it is only a sample) I have AE Button Plus (http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php) and WisBar Advance (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/). I mapped a double press of the calendar button to the cascade menu of Wisbar. This menu includes at top an item to show the today screen. Thererefore, when TT runs, the sequence "double press calendar" plus "press down" plus "press enter" has TT minimised in the task bar.
I just press the red end call button when in tomtom and it takes me out to the today screen. The tomtom hands are in the task bar to press when I want to go back into it. I find this works well for me while driving.

This solution doesn't work with TT6.
(But saying that, I'm now not sure!!!)
I'll edit this accordingly.
I do apologise, it does. Hmmm there was something that didn't!!!
Pressing the "end call" button works on TT6
It works on my MDA vario

what i do is press the mail button then tap on start---today that minimizes TT6 for me.
Bear in mind, you don't really want TT running in the background constantly, unless you're connected to a power source. The number of times I have accidentally started TomTom as I put my phone in my pocket, only to come back a few hours later and find it's sapped my battery to about 10%, and my phone is roasting hot.
The new version of TomTom starts in about 10 seconds, that's fast enough for me. In fact, I must check if TT6 uses the same "busy loop" programming as TT5, where it constantly uses the processor even when it's doing nothing but display a static screen - I was surprised TomTom sorted out the startup time, I'd be shocked if they'd sorted that out.
I want to keep it running so I get in the habit of turning it on for the speed camera database every time I get in the car.
I have an always on GPS in the car and as long as TT is running each time I walk away and come back it picks up the GPS each time. I know if I have to start TT each time I'll not do it.
Thanks for your help
Didn't anyone read in several post before that by pressing the "end" call button tomtom will minamize? this works perfectly on my mda/qtek WM5.

Hello friends,
i´ve got some trouble on my Magician (MDA Compact). While navigating with TomTom6 or Destinator my Device´s switching off after the choosen Time (1 Minute after non-using). My Wizard100 with WM5 doesn´t do so. It stays on while navigating. I´m bored of tipping the touchscreen every Minute just to save the Device working....
Is there any Trick to let the Device stay "alive" while navigating? Is there a registry key to set?
By using a external power source. The device will stay on.
P-O
Thanks for the fast reply...
But is there no other way to do so?
You could use Mortscript to change the battery switch off setting before launching TomTom and then change it back after TomTom closes. There's an example on another threah somewhere. Search for Mortscript examples.
Hello,
I'd like to use my HD with Tomtom on my motorbike (HD in the pocket, navigation instructions over to my Sony bluetooth headset).
Trouble is, of course, that in my pocket, the screen is pressed and Tomtom exits.
Is there a way to launch Tomtom and then lock the screen before putting it in my pocket ?
Thanks !
same problem here.

I'm using Navigon on my HD and after locking the screen (press and hold the end key), the Navigon just continues to give driving instructions. Wouldn't that work with TomTom?
locking
Problem I believe is once tomtom looses focus then it stops working. Need to lock it while staying focused on the tomtom screen.
Also if the tomtom looses focus then the phone goes to sleep after period X

It doesn't : Tomtom keeps working in the background but no instructions coming through =(
There are two ways to lock the device while continue to run TomTom (with the instructions):
1) Press Today button, then lock the device in normal way;
2) Install Gyrator2. With the default settings it will lock your device when inseting stylos back to device.
First solution doesn't work for me : the instructions remain when i press the today button but are cut as soon as i lock the device with a long press on the bottom right button or with the on/off button at the top of the device
Will give a try to gyrator
works perfectly with gyrator2 !
Thanks a lot
Gyrator
Only problem is with gyrator is the device goes to sleep after a little while. I think it is because the unlock function is in the foreground. Tomtom is still active but sleeps after a little while.
Would be good is gyrator then made tomtom the foreground app again once locked.
Just go to the power options and untick the boxes !
I have a problem with my Touch HD in the way that everytime the screen shuts down the GPS seems to shut down. Regardless if I Push the power button or if I let it shut down by itself.
For example if I'm recording a track it will make a straight line from the point where the screen shuts down to the point where I turn it on.
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT and Kartex (a software from the Swedish lantmäteriet).
Have been using both softwares on my old E-ten Glofiish X800 and it worked fine.

I think the problem is that its not the screen that turns off, but your device is going into suspend mode.
You will need an application which prevents the suspend mode and turns just the display off.
Is there a way to keep the GPS on in suspend mode?
Is there a way to change the registry so the GPS would not shut down in suspend mode? If not, what application would you recommend to use to only turn of display but not put the device in the suspend mode?

Install MobileMagic from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449654
On the options tab, choose GPS while power off.
I was just about to suggest the same thing. Mobile Magic allow for GPS to work while in suspended mode. There is even a feature that automatically calls upon what ever GPS app you have to start automatically when GPS signals are detected. Pretty cool not to mention a slue of other features this nifty app has.
Thanks gadgetuk437 and band27! Great app although a little bit too "robust" as I don't need the screen rotation & all other features. I guess I will only start it when I need to use GPS.

I am in the same boat using GPS Watch which provides a track which can be outputted to Google Earth
Is there a registry hack that will allow the GPS to continue to be operated when powered off?
Thanks
Thank you gadgetuk437 and band27 for your advice but I don´t seem to get MobileMagic to work.
I have installed it and I have choosen autostart, start hidden and GPS power when power off. Have done nothing else.
MobileMagic autostarts hidden but doesn't prevent the GPS from turning off.
I have been using screenoff but that app doesn't really work either.
I raised the question at HTC as well and got the answer that this is something that is done by design in order to reduce the battery consumption.
I just don't understand why, If I didn't want to waste power I would of course close the GPS app before i turning of the screen.
Yeah, same here. After some testing I realized Mobilemagic's function doesn't really work. Even thought I also have the function to keep the GPS on selected my Garmin Mobile XT still looses the GPS fix as soon as the device goes into standby

I'm away to do the same...
I have Garmin Mobile XT with the Snowranger map sets for tracking my snowboarding runs. I also want to leave the phone in my pocket all day and track where I've been!
I tried it a couple of weeks ago with my Diamond whilst running. I had the music player running and Garmin tracking me - and it kept my log file (which I imported to google earth) over my whole 45min run.
Dont know whether tomtom or this rom issue.
When i recive or make a call all goes well tomtom mutes and route comes back on screen.
But when call finishes few secounds later the screen turns off.
I have to swicth screen back on and navigate to running tasks and get tomtom back.
Anyone else having issues. i have tried various tomtom exes and differnat dates of this rom.
