Got my HD2 from tmobile 2 days ago. Set up a lock code on it and my exchange email account on activesync. Stock rom.
Worked fine for a day.
Next day went to power the screen on and it was redrawing the screen very slowly and then stopped cold, and i could tell the screen was to re-enter my exchange webmail password, which was weird, because i had it set to save the password and it worked fine syncing since i set it up the previous day.
So i soft reset the phone. Get to my lock screen on boot, go to unlock it, won't take my unlock code. Tried it a dozen times. Kept telling me the password was incorrect. So i take take the battery out for a while and soft reset again; try again, same thing.
So i had to start from scratch with a hard reset because i couldn't get into the phone.
It's like it knew all my settings, but not the values to those settings (unlock code/exchange password).
Anybody else have something like this happen?

I'm having one hard reset after another. As much as I love the phone, it seems it only stays stable when you don't install any applications, and apparently even synchronizing to contacts causes headaches now...

Is it possible that all 6.5 Windows Mobile phones work fine but only HD2 sucks with this OS?
I had a similar issue. I set up a lock code & when I went to unlock it stopped taking the code, kept giving me "incorrect password" I had to start from scratch as well.
I've installed a few apps (MorphGear, TomTom, Azgard Defence, Bsb Tweaks, Mobipocket) as well as changed the HTC Sense theme and the phone still runs like a champ.
However, I have not run it with a sim card yet (darn simlock!) but have gone online and done a few updates while synced with my computer.
No custom roms for my HD2, at least for the time being. I tried one cooked rom after another for my Hermes, then for my Touch Pro, none of which run like it SHOULD. Glitches and bugs with all of them. The stock roms go through a lot of testing, and although some bugs do sometimes sneak through, I believe it is the most stable you can have.
I LOVE this phone!
I've had a couple of lock-ups and a touch of lag here and there, but it seemed the culprit was Skyfire. Once I uninstalled it, my lag problem went away. Don't quite understand why, but, hey, who's to question, right? As for syncing issues, I haven't synced with Outlook or any calendars, but I do have both my gmail (three accounts) and AOL mail working okay. Only problem I have is that, with AOL, some of the items I delete pop up again when I get a new mail. It'll say that I have 4 emails when, in fact, only 1 is new and the other three are mails I've read or deleted already. Trying to get my head around that one.

Well my O2 Exec went a little doolally the other day...
Froze on the password screen with no way of getting password input or using keyboard to input password. Happend after a phone call came in
I soft resetted and all seemed fine... Except my today screen details the number of unread emails in two of my email accounts. I cannot access them!
Messaging does not list them either. I cannot create the account again with the same name as it is already in the system!
Any way of either getting the accounts back into the messaging list or removing them from the machine so they can be re-added?
Otherwise reasonably happy with the device.
P.S. the crash also caused my wireless settings to be lost and also my bluetooth partnerships
I have noticed a similar problem in that if you soft reset after receiving e-mails, or texts, even say an hour after receiving them, the Exec forgets that they were there, and deletes them.
This is fine for e-mails (well, annoying not fine) as you can download them again, but for texts it means they are lost forever.
Is there a way to make the device 'save to disk' all Pocket Outlook items before having to soft reset?
I realise one shouldn't have to soft reset so often, but with a device this buggy it's outta our hands.
The biggest problem is the actual account is gone
It shows up on eth today screen but is not selectable from messaging. This means I cant read old or get new ones. I cant recreate the accounts with the same name.
I suppose that its looking like I need to do a hard reset
I had a very similar problem on my Blue Angel a while back and after trawling through the registry, I eventually found some references to the "ghost" e-mail accounts. Deleting them sorted things out for me, so it'll probably work for your Exec?
Wish I could remember whereabouts they were in the registry, but it was a few months ago...sorry. Have a snoop around and see what you can find though, it might save you a hard reset.
My dual has suddenly stopped retrieving certain calendar appts. There is no pattern to it, just some do not come thru. I thought my exchng. server was maybe the issue, but all my other devices sync perfectly and retrieve all appts. I love my dual but I live by my calendar and must be able to rely on it to be accurate. Anybody else having any issue with calendar? I had agenda one installed, but the hard reset wiped it off and the issue persists. The hard reset did not improve it. So weird because it's only a few appts. The rest come thru as usual.I never know which ones won't make it. I'm baffled.
Hi,
do u find a support code for that error?
I have someting similar with the error 0x80070018.
Also u may try to run scanpst (if u have Outlook) sometimes the problem might be with the file on the pc.
I don't get any error, just missing the appts. I tried a test and sent myself a test appt. to recur daily as it seemed the vanished appts. were the recurring ones.(I had it set to never end) Then I sent one from the phone itself. One from the server to the phone and one from the phone to the server and both went thru fine. It's been really strange, but I'm probably just going to set appts. from the dual for awhile anyway. Might be more stable that way. All my nokia devices sync fine and always have. So it's some kind of wm bug. Thanks for the comment. I'm not going to sweat it anymore.
I was wondering, are many people using custom roms also use the combination Exchange/ActiveSync? I ask, cause I seem to always have lots of problems with my Exchange sync when using custom roms. It happened with my TP (starting 6.5), and now with my HD2. ActiveSync will tell it is connected, but no synchronization is happening and push does not work. It only works with manual sync, or scheduled sync. It is very annoying and it is pissing me off.
Is this a rom problem, or a HSPL problem? I love the performance of these roms, particularly Dutty since his are so nice and clean, but I *need* ActiveSync push properly working.
I have done hard resets, reflashes and everything I can think of. Nothing works. And I have tried the top5 fastest roms from the benchmarking thread. Flashing back to the stock rom, and everything is fine.
So right now, I seem to be stuck with either a relatively slow rom with push or a screaming fast one without push.
Any ideas or suggestions?
have you tried SONE HDv1.1/..? seems to work fine, speedy, complete rom, wit activesync and exchange.
im using exchange with my gmail contacts and calendar sync.
fist it dosent work when i sync both calendar and contacts, but then it works when i do it one at a time.
i tried contacts first, by selecting menu>options, and selecting just contacts
i let it sync,
then i de-selected contacts, and sync calendar...(tho it deletes all contact data on phone)..ad let it sunc as well.
after it syncd, hen checked them both..and this time works.
i still have problems with mail tho, dont have a clue how to get around that.
hope this helps.
Somehow that doesn't sound very encouraging.
For reference: I found it. For some reason it appears that 6.5 and higher roms do not appreciate you importing ActiveSync settings from a registry export, and require you to manually configure it. On 6.1 roms this works fine. Still annoying, since I like to set things up using UC, but at least it is working now.
this is the dilemma I always have. I've always stuck with stock ROMs because although they are inflated, and often buggy...they do work...mostly
the risk of moving to a custom ROM and finding that the apps I need don't work (I would be totaly screwed if I didnt have reliable push email.
then I think abut the new features that are available in 6.5.3 (threaded email for xample) and really want to move...but there's always the nagging that I will have to constantly reflash as custom ROMS seem to release fixes every couple of days!!
Hi all,
I have had manila freezing problems on past few roms on namely,
XannyTech's 1.0, 1.1,
PDAVIET - v5, v7
(i mention these because i have flashed only these, not others, so this solution could be for other roms too).
Though both these roms are beautifully made up, i had severe manila freezing problems. i didnt install much, but still it occured, and always it happened shortly after i flashed.
Now i had overlooked the exact happening of it, and finally was able to see it happen.
This freezing of manila is happening due to addition of a POP/IMAP MAIL ACCOUNT only. (in reference to my case) And i have been successful in confirming this as i am able to recreate this problem.
I have added a hotmail account too, but that doesn't disturb the manila at all, but only the pop/imap mail account is troubling it.
When the Manila freezes, i am still able to go to the start menu, and from there to MAIL, and then i delete the pop mail account, and soft reset. Everything is back to normal, and the phone works beautifully!
I have been having this problem within a short time of flashing the rom, as i always sync and download my mails immediately after flashing so i can be on the move.
This solution is there, but the lack of having my pop mail on my phone is becoming a problem to me as its my business mail.
Request to Chefs: Can you please try and see if it also happens with you?
I can confirm that the following softwares are NOT the ones creating problem...
S2U2,
Showcase,
I hope this is helpful to all! and i hope the great Chefs here help in overcoming this problem.
I had no problems with manila freezes on pdaviet v5 and v6 with gmail account.
as i said mate, its happening mostly with private business domain pop/imap mail accounts mainly.
Can you try installing a business mail domain on it and see if it freezes?
I will try tomorow at work.
I have the problem you mentioned, but I can not said you is for the POP3 mail account. Manila in several ROMS freezing and go back to prove another ROM in order to have the HD2 OK. Next time I'll flash I not going to install the mail to know if the right problem.
I have IMAP for AOL & pop3 for hotmail installed on various ROM's & no freezing. I have been using Sense on both the HD2 & Xperia for a long time. I think you're on the wrong track. I did encounter freezing with Showcase. I am interested to know what makes you think that it's not this. I take it you have Showcase installed?
Weepatc, i have showcase installed, and working smoothly.
i have set hotmail and gmail accounts and both working fine.
now i have a couple of business domain. and ONLY when i set them up, do i encounter Manila to freeze up for good.
The moment i remove those accounts from the email settings, all is back to normal.
i have tried out this process about 6-7 times to reconfirm if that is what causing the hangups, and that is what caused it all the time.
Maybe u should try to flash a rom, then setup emails without installing showcase. I had a problem with this app on some roms, especially the new ones with start button at tho bottom.

Are your email accounts set up to retrieve email automatically. If so, it might be an idea to set it up for manual Send/Recieve & try that.
I also have freezing issue but ramdomly and suddenly. I tried XannyTech ROM 1. 0 and 1.1
any workaround ?

I think he is on the right track with this. I have been having the same issues and after setup mail with Seven (www.seven.com). It seems to occurred when setting up Push e-mail for POP or Exchange.
However, I am only observing this issue with the 28XXX and the 235XX builds (basically anything using 6.5.X UI.) It does not occurred with 218XX builds which just 6.5 UI.
I aggree something bogus is happening, i was fine on miri 1.0 6.5.x with exchange and hotmail, no freezes, upgraded to xanytech evolution rc1....freezes like a mofo, also got freezing on miri 1.1 but i think that may have been down to something else
Hi there...
i'm just using HD2Owners Roms...
have also the Manilla freezes...
since i'm not using pop3 or Imap ... only Exchange sync!!!
Startmenü still available... just got into the orignal Windows Settings (thanks to B&B Tweaks... to have a option to enable this..)
so just got into the home settings, and disable and renable sense...
then sense isnt freezing...
i had many programm now in focus.. the last one was fpsece... but i didn't have installed this cab right now and sense still freezing from time to time... but not everytime... so no guess whats the real problem....
I'm going to try flashing back to stock then flashing again, this has happened before on other devices, flashing from custom rom to custom rom, it might be worth a shot, its only going to take 10mins, i'll try tonight and post my results.

Cool, so now more and more people are experiencing the same problem. Atleast now we know what is causing the problem, so its easier to search for a solution.
Coming to think of it, this problem is cropping up only on the Manila 2.5.1922 version.
I think we should request some chefs to make a rom with the old 1921 manila.
look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5308280&postcount=164
my "story"
maybe it has something to do with manilla customizing...
same issue here with WM 6.5.x office 2010beta
I think manilla freezes like you describe in circumstances where the installed software makes a change to manilla in some way.
I have had the same problems when installing the HTC Network plugin, because it adds the network plugin option to the Other settings tab within manilla. I have also been able to repeat this fault consistently, and has always requred a hard reset to rectify.
However, from what i can gather, it is something that only applys to Manilla 1922 as opposed to 1921, which is a real pain when everyone seems to be using 1922 in their roms now.
i use 1922 in my rom and never had a freeze

The question for you is: are you doing any e-mail (pushing or pop) with it. Are you also using it on HD2 device. I have used Manila all day today with no lockups or freezes, however I have not setup any of my e-mail stuff. I did installed my applications and still no issues. I will soon setup my e-mail and then freezes are guaranteed
I have a problem with my HD2 forgeting passwords and account details for a number of apps and system settings. Now I know the Facebook login has been mentioned on another thread (although not sorted), but my HD2 is also fogetting the following after every soft reset or flat battery etc: -
Data Connection. It needs to be set as if it is the first time I have used the phone
Email. It forgets the passwords for the accounts, the download schedule/settings, and the signatures etc
Wi-Fi. Forgets all keys
Other Apps. Forgets passwords, and Facebook will never remember the details even though I check the remember my details box.
If this has been covered and I have missed it my apologies, but I can't find a thread, and if there has been I would be greatful for a link to it.
This problem is really causing me a headache at the moment. This (as always) seems to happen just at a crucial moment at work when I am in the middle of something and I have to soft reset; that would be enough of a pain usually, but now I have to reset the data, add the settings to my email accounts, re-enter wi-fi key, change my signature.....
I have been thinking that a hard reset might fix this, but thought I would ask on here first because I am not looking forward to the prospect of re-instiing my Tom Tom and everything else.
Thanks.
I've started getting the Facebook app problem in the last day or so, why won't it remember me?!?!
Losing email and data settings
Searched but can't find a solution to this problem, It's just started to happen to me on a 6 month old phone. Can't see anything I've altered in the last few days. Did OP find a solution?
The problem stopped and has not happened since. I did not find a solution, it just seemed to sort itself out.
OK. Thanks for the reply, will see if mine resolves itself
any idea of a fix for this problem?
Swype keyboard when installed sometimes has a tendency to wipe the passwords.
i found disabling sense and installing spb mobile shell fixed this issue for me. prior to that it was brutal. hard reset after hard reset.
jason
didn't get this problem in a while already.
I have this funny theory that MAY be true or not: if you need to softreset, before doing that make sure that all the applications that use those data are closed.
i.e., before softreset close with a task manager pocket outlook mail, and wireless properties if they're open

indeed, it is not a theory. the key-db is shared between apps (at least the one for wifi+activesync keys), and a softreset may corrupt it.

I agree. My HD2 has had this problem (again!!!) for the last couple of days now, and it seemed to start when the phone locked out and I had to remove the battery to reset.
And this time I decided to stop attempting to fix it and just bite the bullet and do a hard reset with the stock rom, which did nothing. Yesterday I changed rom to Energyrom and it still hasn't fixed it. Surely a hard reset/rom change should fix this issue?
Anyway taking the positives, forcing me to hard reset made me try a custom rom for the first time
Has anyone put in a complaint to HTC regarding this? I can put up with most niggles using WM/HTC, but losing exchange details and email account passwords all day is beyond a joke for business users.
