Hi all,
I've had my HD2 for just over two weeks, and have just checked the HTC website. It looks like there is a ROM update (Release Date: 2010-03-15) which is just after I got the phone.
In the instructions it says to check what ROM is on the phone you want to update, I had a look and it is the same ROM, (1.43.110.2(70315) WWE).
If this ROM was released on the 15th, how can it be on my phone already?

It's a delayed release for people to have a backup I think - you got a T-Mobile UK HD2?
Besides, 1.66 is the latest now, if you wanna update, get that
I was preparing to update to 1.72 thinking it was the latest.
yes I have a UK T-mobile handset.
I cant post links yet but on the UK section of the HTC site, it says that the latest T-mobile Rom is 1.43....

I already have this rom. If i installed 1.66 wouldn't it invalidate my warranty with T Mobile?

Basically T-Mobile/HTC made the original ROM available but there's no update officially as yet. You can install HSPL (see links in ROM Dev forum) and flash the standard HTC ROM but it will invalidate your warranty in that if you sent it to HTC for repair after doing so they'd know. Get the T-Mobile ROM from the HTC site as a backup and you can revert back if you need a repair done.
the thing I still dont understand is how can I have the same ROM on my phone that according to the HTC UK site, Release Date: 2010-03-15 even though I have had my phone for about 3 weeks prior to that?
As I said, all HTC have done is make it available to download - it's not new as 1.43 was the first ROM on the HD2 when it was released last year. I think people complained they couldn't get it from T-Mobile incase they had to re-flash their phone.
oh i see that explains it. thanks for clearing that up. hopefully they will hurry up and release the proper version

i see theres an update to down,load but the serial number i have has lots of IO or is that 10's in it
also if i do the rom upgrade will i still need to install all the other updates or is this a fix-all?

It sounds like you got your phone from O2, Vodafone or T-Mobile rather than a 3rd party like Phones4U. This means that you can't just download and apply HTC updates.
Fear not - go to the Leo ROM development section on this forum, put HSPL on your phone and then load the latest ROM update from HTC (v1.66). This includes all the latest updates.
Use this UK serial number to download the ROM upgrade:

Had my HD2 about 10 days now and its on o2. Just wanted to ask the more experienced members about my version numbers.
Here they are:
ROM Version: 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
Radio Version: 2.04.50.22_2
I was wondering how up to date they were and whether I would benefit from updating the ROM?
A Bit Of History: My phone prior to this was the Omnia i900. I tried to flash the ROM on that with the help and advice of some users from the MoDaCo forum. Basically I screwed up, and the phone had to be sent to a Samsung Repair Centre. I was without it for 2 whole weeks! I felt like topping myself!!
While I would be very hesitant to attempt to flash again, it is something I have to consider over the medium to long term just for the sake of keeping the phone up to date.
rom 1.43 is about as out of date as a 6 month phone can be. problem is that o2 still haven't released an update. (current official updates are 1.66 and/or 1.72 for some other countries/carriers.)
personally I've been using cooked roms based on version 2.10 and radio 2.08 for weeks....... light years ahead off the o2 stock rom.

I'm still inside my 14 day return period. Would you recommend returning the phone? Would an unlocked phone be better rather than one locked to o2? If so, I'm more than willing to do this. Or is it possible to unlock this phone yourself?
I notice on the HTC support page there is a UK 1.48 ROM update. Would anyone recommend this?

The updates are done through OTA. The only released Official Genuine 2.1 RUU ROMS is for WWE version not 3(Three), Orange, T-Mobile e.t.c.
What you need to do is try find a 3(Three) RUU 1.5/1.6.

Does anyone know what version of radio the official Three UK 2.1 update uses?
I've been holding off on upgrading to the radio from the WWE RUU since orange users reported problems with theirs.

I've been waiting ages for the T-Mobile UK ROM upgrade for the HD2 but nothing has appeared on the HTC downloads page as yet, even though Vodaphone, Orange and the generic one seems to be available. I get the feeling that T-Mobile won't be releasing the update
Anyway, I've been looking thru the stickies on XDA-Dev and found a ROM update for branded T-Mobile called RUU_Leo_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1 which I am now downloading
Is this an unofficial update? Or maybe a pre-release from T-Mobile?
More importantly, is this safe to install? My specs are:

I've been hanging around confused on the XDA-Dev forums on and off for the last 6 months or so. I'm pretty apprehensive about installing anything ROM-based for fear of bricking my lovely HD2. I don't wanna get a new one as I'm not even halfway thru my 24-month contract!
Anyway, hope you can help. I hate sounding like such noob. I fix PCs for a living, but this is doing my head in!!
The RUU_Leo_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1 is a leaked UK T-Mobile stock ROM.
Don't worry, this rom will not brake your device, I have uploaded these rom sins 2011-01-06 and in the meanwhile it was bean downloaded 293 times without anyone mentioned that thy have a problem.

UK unbranded HD2 on o2
Now, a while back I'm sure the HTC support section had a new upgrade. I downloaded it but never bothered to install.
That file is called:
_HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
Which seems to be the same as what I've got! Yet when i run that file it says:
PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.27.4.3 (is the 3.27 the rom or the version of the update utility?)
Additionaly the date on the HTC site of the update is 2010-01-25 which can't be the one i got before. I'm sure there is a 3. something rom.. ??? Have they taken the newer one down opr something?

go back to htc.com and look again at rom updates (support - pick hd2 in phone list - downloads)
The first one listed is an o2 specific update, but that wont work on yours because as you mentioned you actually have an unbranded hd2 (because o2 couldnt buy them and brand them quick enough for demand early 2010)

yeah thanks mate, i managed to find it on my pc from before, was in a different folder!! already flashed it, hope it's an improvement, was getting sick and tired of things hanging etc...

sorry to charge in here with what may seem a very daft question but how to tell if your hd2 is branded..or not. Do you mean the actual device casing is Unbranded (as is mine) but i still have the 02 splashscreen when the device boots up. Again sorry for my ignorance but is my splashscreen indicitive of my phone being o2 branded or is it (should be) printed to the casing of the phone?

it has the o2 splash so its almost certainly branded. its the rom thats branded not the casing, and by branded we mean you get your updates through your provider (or select the provider branded rom on the HTC website, to be more accurate). Your phone will only accept roms signed by your provider, unless you use sspl/hspl, and vice versa, an unbranded phone wont take provider roms.
Some providers dont brand them, virgin, i believe dont brand them.
Also called rom lock or rom locked, or provider locked.
to be sure, go HERE (assuming you're uk) and try download teh top entry using your real serial number. its a branded 3.14 o2 rom, so if it lets you, your phone is branded. if it doesnt let you, its not, and you should use the one pointed out above, the generic wwe.
just as extra info, before 3.14, if your phone was branded you got different versions, so a generic 1.66 rom was 1.72 for branded phones. Same rom, just with o2 junk.
I don't have any branding to the case OR the software, to be honest i don't think i could stand either.. I've always bought my contracts from carphonewarehouse and every phone they have supplied me with is unbranded.
Always on O2, all my previous Nokia handsets were the same.
Perhaps like the previous poster said i don't give them a chance to get their software on, i'm always straight off the mark with brand new releases

all yea thats why you use generic wwe roms. cpw sell unbranded phones, and sometimes lock them to a carrier, often dont. But either way, the phone would still use generic non branded roms. rom lock and carrier lock/sim lock are unconnected.
