Browser speed compared to iphone browser - Nexus One General

Hi all,
Can someone try the web version of vimeo (http://vimeo.com) and compare the speed to iphone browser? Mine seem terribly slower than the iphone's browser, especially the transition between pages.
I'm running the cyanogen room 5.0.5.3 if that makes any different.
thanks.

Just compared it with my Co workers iPhone. My browser us quicker. I'm on Enomther's ROM if that helps.

Interesting. Is it a smooth transition? I flashed the Enomther's room to see what's up. The transition is still not as smooth as on the iPhone browser.
I tried the website on the iPod Touch 3G btw.

Cyanogen changed the javascript engine, this in the changelog:
* Disable V8 in Webkit and switch back to JSC due to app incompatibilities
V8 was apparently much faster, so if that site is javascript heavy.
It stemmed from some app called Epocrates not working with V8.
I'd rather have V8 if you ask me, the last version to have it was 5.0.5.1-N1

Hero Browser slow :(

Hey,
I don't have no idea, but my hero browser seems to be very slow
It's takes quite a lot of time, until browser will load full page... And a lot of pages wants to load in mobile view...
IS it a normal laggy browser or not?
I use android 1.5
Yup... that's normal. Biggest disappointment ever.
I think it'll get better in 2.1 though... I've seen great speed improvements when my friend got an update to 2.1 for his cellphone (though not a hero).
1. Root device
2. Flash BeHero+ v1.2
3. Flash behnaam #23 2.6.29 OC kernel
4. OC your device to 691mhz
5. Disable flash in the browser
enjoy your hero as it was meant to be with android 2.1 and blazing fast
Or, consider using Opera as your browser. You might like it

I second that,... Opera is an excellent alternative.

Bi-winning or Trigger

Hi everyone,
I'm using Trigger rom for my phone. But Bi-winning rom is already issued. Both of them from EDT, and i like them. Just now, i'm so confuse to choose Trigger or Bi-Winning. Please tell me the suggestion. Thanks.

I was using Trigger before I got FFC, then I switched to Bi-winning coz I don't need to flash more mods to have the FFC support.
Frankly speaking, I can't really tell the difference in terms of speed and power. Both are smooth as butter, fast and gorgeous. Just pick the one you like.
2.2.1 rom's are nice, and bi-winning is my fav of them.
That said, I'm reverting to Trigger as it's 100% perfect. Others just seem to have hiccups, for me. I can't stand the browser showing transparency when scrolling on bi-winning (maybe just me?)
While I'm still more than happy with Loki, I'd like to hear what else folks, who have tried these two EDT ROMS, have to say about them too.
What are the differences between TeamWhiskey's Bionix 1.3.1 and EDT's Trigger?

For me, Trigger is more smooth and way better on battery life.
Bionix is nice, but it has a sturdy feel to it instead of smooth, might just be me tho.
Trigger gets updated constantly, but when there is an update to Bionix, it's usually something big(thats what she said).
Thank you for your feedback. Its time to try Trigger...
Bi-winning's browser (and probably every 2.2.1 browser, I imagine) is hardware accelerated. So it is faster than Trigger's when it comes to pinch zooming, scrolling heavy websites, etc. It has tiny little glitches, mostly dealing with pages that pop up non-maximized, but I rather deal with that and have the way faster browser than the other way around.

Interesting, i really disliked the browser on Bi-Winning... just seemed glitchy to me. Never noticed it on Trigger or CM7.
I want to talk about battery life and smooth. Which is better than? Anyone tried? Just tell me your opinion.

It works great for me. If I go to engadget.com on a 2.2 browser, the full site that is, it lags a whole lot when scrolling. even the forums here at XDA, the main forum view, lags a lot in 2.2, but it is a lot smoother in 2.2.1. Other sites I can think of are as.com, ablogtoread.com, among others. A blog to read is pretty much unusable in 2.2.
I used trigger for a while, and it is as good as 2.2 will get IMO. But 2.2.1 is worth it for the browser alone (save for the one aforementioned glitch, the pages that pop up when you click on a link, but they are on top of the previous page, which are pretty glitchy).

I've tried them all, and so should you.... you and your phone are going to determine what is best. From what you said, I would try Trigger first.
I'm with bi-winning for the browser acceleration. I prefer trigger because I don't have a front facing camera but right now the browsing experience is keeping me on bi-winning.
I might try some of the other 2.2.1 offerings and see if that have that annoying ffc buttons all over when I find the time.
Bi-Winning has Chinese Language support which I prefer but in terms of perfection still Trigger is better.
Bi-Winning is still new compared with Trigger but I bet it will become one of the favorite vibrant ROM among the rest since the uniqueness of it is Chinese Language support.
For all people using the stock browser regardless of the version I highly recommend you check out Opera Mobile, the new version that came out it a huge improvement. It has hardware acceleration and much smoother than the stock browser for pinch to zoom and a lot of features that IMO should be included in the stock browser.
As far as roms go, I was using Team Whiskey roms (Nero 5 through Bionix 1.3.1) almost exclusively for a while, tried Trigger which was pretty good, but had some minor issues. I've flashed Bi-Winning v2 and I think it's the best of the roms I've tried so far. Of course YMMV so I'd try them both to see which you like better.

Does touchwiz 4 have hardware acceleration?

Is the interface and browser smooth like the ipad? I ask because i tried out a couple of stock android tabs like the sony s and xoom at a store and their scrolling and zooming was quite laggy compared to the ipad, same goes for the browser.
The whole issue about the unsmooth scrolling is much better on 3.2 ROMs, like for example Task650 GalaxyTask ROM.
It isn't entirely gone, but I hope this will come with Ice Cream Sandwich/Android 4.0.
Edit:
And to answer your questions: Yes, apart from occasional stuttering, it is as smooth as the iPad. Custom ROM/TouchScreenTune App do the trick for me.
Most of the apps in the system support H.W acceleration (browser , etc ) but the UI itself doesn't support it (it will come in ICS ) like the main launcher and the rotation and translations in the system that is why it shutters allot when using live wallpapers that is because the load is n the processor it self not on the gpu but ICS should fix all this issues, as i noticed even alpha builds are smoother than honeycomb
Android will always have more "stuttering" than the ipad. It's pretty simple to imagine why: on an ipad, all there is is a bunch of little standard sized icons. They don't display information, they don't change, they don't move or supply anything more than a link to open your app. They're just little cached images and so the whole interface moves smoothly because there's nothing to see, no work for the processor. Also, the screen is low resolution (1024x768), so there's less pixels to move around.
Android on the other hand has widgets that change and display information. They are not standardized and are often resizable. The whole interface is far more complex than the ipad. And the screen is higher resolution (1200x800) so there's more pixels.
So, sure, if "smooth scrolling of the homescreen" is your top priority, I'd say go with an ipad. It will always be simple and smooth. Emphasis on the simple.
If, on the other hand, you want customizability and information without having to open your apps, and a little jerkiness in the homescreen is OK with you, get an android tab.
Last bit: android allows you to install a different launcher (that's part of what I mean by "customizability"). ADW EX is very smooth...
Many of the roms on this forum can give you HW acceleration.
All i want is a silky smooth browser like the ipad/iphone. Tried android 2.2, 2.3,3.0,3,1,3.2, sense 3.0, sense 3.5, wp7, wp 7.5 NONE I REPEAT NONE can come close to the consistent smoothness of the safari browser. Is there a browser in the android market that can come close, cause i tried opera and its still not as smooth. Hope ICS will make it so.
Safari for ipad /iphone doesn't have flash so for sure it will be smoother , try opera mini it doesn't have flash so it shuld be faster
I've found that hardware acceleration is much smoother without TW. I'm running AOSP 3.2.2 (Overcome ROM) and have not noticed any lag and even noticed scrolling in say, Music, to not jump at all. Smoother than the iPad for sure.
I'm also verry happy with the Launcher in Overcome

I use dolphin HD with flash loading on demand. It is the best browser I've used on any device so far.

My experience is exactly the opposite. Touchwiz is so smooth and fluid in ways that regular honeycomb can't touch. The typind lag in the browser in stock honeycomb was enough to ruin the whole experience.
The only overcome rom I see is a touchwiz rom, where is this aosp overcome rom? I'll check it out on the off chance it is better than stock android.

It is still TW. Right?

Chrome on Nexus S

Is it just me or this browser is much slower than stock? I've been reading all these nice articles about how Chrome is better etc etc, but I cannot see how it's better. It's a memory hog and less snappy than ICS stock browser. I really think the 512MB of ram in the Nexus S is taking a toll with Chrome (same with the CPU).
Works fine for me.

I assume you on a stock, no tweaked rom thinking its smoothly alrite.
RAM is not the problem as much kernels had these new thing called "HBigmem" which boost 35-87mb more ram...
Like Matr1x has 405mb of ram instead of getting 334mb....

Chrome is definitely slower. I also hate it will slow to a crawl when typing in the search bar. I use xscope. It's the best browser. I've tried em all.

Very slow here too compared to the stock browser
And I thought I am the only one -.- Chrome is a little bit laggy. Starting to type is a nightmare. It needs 2 or 3 seconds to catch up on your typing...
Yup, same here... I really like it's features and looks, but it just don't work how it should...
agreed. it runs a bit laggy on bigmem and non bigmem kernels. i hope google makes it smoother on nexus s.
Its a bit laggy on GN too....

I agree, it's really slow compared with stock. Now i'm using the new Firefox beta, and it's really fast and snappy

The new FF beta is cool. I just hate it vibrates whenever I touch a link. Its smooth too.

thanks guys firefox beta runs smoother and more fluid even opens a bit faster than chrome
Holy crap! Firefox beta is so fast!!!

Chrome works well for me. Stock rooted 4.0.4. Fast and smooth.
It's pretty slow for me too. I really enjoy the features it comes with but i keep going back to the stock browser. I'll try out the new Firefox though.
Previous version of Chrome was really fast and smooth
The latest release is very slow :/
i wanted to like chrome on android because it LOOKS cool and the UI is cool but i found the same. then i realized i hadnt wiped/data in FOREVER and i've even flashed a few ROMs (i know, not the best idea but i'm lazy so i usually see if all hell breaks loose first, which it usually doesnt).
so i did a clean wipe and install of CNA 2.0 and Matrix 19.5 and chrome is now very fast and snappy, i love the tab feature where you can fling one to the side to close it.
Chrome is also slow most of the time on my stock nexus s. I found that opera mini works best and is very very fast (I have did not try Firefox yet). The reason for the speed is that, Opera Mini uses its servers to compress and optimize data and then sends it to your phone - this makes Opera Mini very fast. It also includes tabbed browsing among other features.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.android
I have now also removed Chrome from my Nexus, because it is indeed slow.
I have then tried 5 other browser and for now I decided to go with Dolphin HD browser, which for me is the best compromise between features and speed.
Stock android for me. The one that a actually made by Google for PHONES not desktops or tablets

OnePlus 6t doesnt feel fast or smooth

I don't know if it's just me but I get micro stutters while scrolling no matter what kernel I use. Is this normal?
Must be just you. Rom feels fast to me. I have McLaren but I doubt there is any real world differences
Im rooted but using stock kernel and rom and this is the fasted and smoothest android device I ever had. Mine has zero lag. Compared it with an iPhone earlier and scrolling was the same. I have the 6T 8gb version.
Must be my phone. I have the 8gb ram version and no matter what I get micro stutters once in a while.
Stutters in the overall system or just the browser? For me it's only when I use Chrome (but that's on almost every device I use). I've switched to using Samsung Browser Beta on every Android device because it's so much smoother and you can download ad blockers that works so damn well.

I use the Samsung browser not beta. Is the beta that much better?
Honestly I haven't tried the regular. Accidentally downloaded the beta first and had zero issues with it so I've just stuck with it for my last 4 or 5 devices.
No stutters on mine, that I have noticed yet at least. I am stock/unrooted, but in Dev settings I did speed up the animations (I do this on all phones, personal preference).
