Two days before the Google I/O I started noticing a new "Report" button whenever a Application would force closed. At first I thought it was a new feature of bTunes app until my phone died the same night. After waking up the launcher 2 crashed at boot and the report button was there again. Now thinking this was just some sort of odd temporary feature I just ignored it.
When the Google I/O keynote announced one of the new features would be Application Error Reports, I quickly realized my phone had a Froyo feature. Now the question remain, was this a silent update? Am I the only with 2.1 and this reporting feature? Also all numbers appear the same 2.1 update 1, same base band and kernel number. Thoughts?

I noticed the same thing just today and hadn't ever seen it before.
I wonder if this is some sort of sign that the Market has changed something, rather than a change in our phone's OS?

I actually had messenger crash shortly after the keynote and the report feature was there. I had never seen it before - unsure when it started appearing (running stock 2.1)
Same here, saw it about 2 days ago, but assumed it was part of the app that crashed. While watching the keynote speech I noticed a familiar feature, but after seeing these posts I went back to check, and it is definetly one and the same.
I have been a little supicious last few days, as I had received an out of mem notification while at work, when I hadn't been using my phone. Checking net counter it seemed I had downloaded several MB that I was unaware of.
Are google slowing trickling down froyo to us on the sly?
Has happened to me too, I now get that button whenever something crashes, and just about the same time this change happened my Genie Widget stopped working and I can no longer use it
I think that was built into 2.1.1 I've been seeing that for a while.

I've had this for about 2 days now. I didn't think anything of it at first, and I though it was part of the app itself. Looks like they did do a silent update. Since everyone here's got it, looks like they're going to be quite swift with the whole thing.
I think it is a silent update because I'm rooted on cyanogen and I havent got it. Unless you guys are rooted too

I'm rooted but on stock, I can't tell exactly when it happened, but it was at least 3 days ago.
Nah, Im on CM and have had this for some days and I (supposedly) can not recieve ota of any kind from Google so that would imply it was part of an application update.
I have Enomther's 1.9.2 and I have the report feature
hmmm any specific apps? I haven't had it yet
Yes I've been seeing this too and only in the last week. I just thought certain apps were doing it that had never crashed before.
Could it possibly have been an update to the SDK? So applications compiled since the SDK update have the feature?
maybe we're all having FroYo madness and we're imagining all this because we're getting so crazy from waiting lol jk jk
Maybe it's just part of the market app and it updated itself.
I couldn't reproduce this because I got no app to crash (and i think that's a very nice fact )
May I add: My stock AWS Nexus One has been on a shelf for many weeks since I got my Milestone, while I wait for Canada's first AWS carrier to launch. When I turned it on this weekend SIM-free, it connected to wi-fi and within a few minutes I got a notification of 30something app updates from the Market. I cleared the notification.
But the odd thing was, a few minutes later. I got a little notification "Lookout is scanning Market...", "Scan finished: Market is safe." This is from the Lookout security program and it normally happens every time an app is installed. So it looks like Android silently updated Market in the background and Lookout just happened to catch it and tell me about it.
So... I too suspect this is an updated feature of the Market.
I had believed it is the updates to market and attentant updates to apps that have the new feature enabled.
I've had it happen quite a few times I thought it was a rouge app or something. I started uninstalling stuff. I had it on a couple of apps.
I think the market app got updated
the report feature came up when something force closed yesterday....it was speedtest I think.
New SMS Function Update: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=0&dl_id=812
Has anyone installed this and seen any drastic improvements? I believe the last SMS update they released did absolutely no good. Is this something you should install even if you have ROM versions 1.66.XXX.X?
Sure would be nice to have them fix these issues from locking up during heavy sms usage once and for all.

Usually they say a ROM version number as the one listed has the fix built in.
Here is the link for all the latest HTC updates for the HD2 and this New- SMS update is out after the latest ROM update? That doesn't make sense? They have screwed up the SMS'ing of this phone from the very beginning. That being said, if they could ever fix it, I wouldn't want anything else.
2 questions in one....
will this new update work with my xannytech 2.3 evolution??
Update for HTC HD2 – New SMS Function Update
This update for HTC HD2 amends the internal management of SMS functionality, and enhances SMS transmission stability, and lets you reach out to your friends and family with instant notifications. Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers just that: fast and reliable SMS messaging.
i ask this because, we all know that the reception or signal on the hd2 is not the best. But , when i send a text and there is no signal i would like the phone to Try and send the text as soon as a signal is recieved on its own. Find it very annoying having to wait or look for a signal (normally putting phone down) to then quickly resend the message before the signal is lost. Im sure every other phone iv had waits till a receotion then sends. Is there a setting iv missed? Or maybe the hd2 actually does this but hours later?
hope you get where im comming from
thanx for any help....

the htc support site says for roms below 1.66.xxx, that means to me that 1.66.xxx+ roms have this built in already
if your on a custom rom, you'll have to double check what build its based on
I finally took the plunge and rooted/loaded a new ROM on my wife's phone. Everything went smoothly and I figured that the best/easiest choice for a new ROM would be the CyanogenMod ROM 6.0 that just came out.
Since I loaded the new ROM, I've noticed a few things that I hope someone can help me fix.
First, one of the main reasons that I wanted to load the ROM is so I could get rid of that Amazon Mp3 app. The Froyo ROM I installed still had it
Also, I've noticed that when I try and rotate the screen, it takes several seconds (some times close to a minute) to actually rotate. This mainly happens right when I unlock the phone.
My wife says that the option to have separate tones play when an e-mail comes in vs an SMS has gone away. I haven't played with it, so IDK about this. She just wants to know if the message received was an email or a text.
There were some other things, but I don't remember what they were, so if I remember I'll post. But those are the big ones. If there is anything I can do to fix them, let me know please! Also, if there is a better, smoother, faster ROM for MT3G 1.2 than the CYGN 6.0, I wouldn't be opposed to reflashing.
Thank you for any help!

Let's start off by moving this to General.
The best way to remove a system app (Yes, Amazon MP3 is considered a system app) is by installing Titanium Backup and using that app to remove any system app that you don't want installed. I used it recently to remove Street View (Street.apk) and I was able to install the newest version from Market after a reboot.
There should be no reason why it would take any more than a couple of seconds to rotate your home screen. How many widgets and shortcuts do you have? Try locking the Launcher app to memory. That may help.
SMS notification:
SMS app, Settings, check Notifications, Notification Settings, Select Ringtone
Gmail notification:
Gmail, Settings, check Email notifications, Select ringtone
Email notification:
Email, Settings, check Email notifications, Select ringtone
Thank you! Sorry for posting in wrong forum. I debated General and Android... should have gone General!
As per the homescreen, I believe she only has 2 widgets: Analog Clock and some task killer widget. IDK if the task killer widget is the root of the problem, but I will have her remove it and see if that fixes it. I also don't know how to check if it is using a lot of system resources. Is there some kind of Taskmgr app that will tell me if that app is a resource hog?
Thank you for your response!
That Task Killer Widget. Oh My, that is one resource hogger. I tried it on my Tilt with Froyo ... it hogged up badly . I gave up, and got me a new myTouch 3G 1.2 off ebay.
Ok, I got the sound thing all working (really easy. Should have looked b4 I asked) But the rotation is still really slow
I was given a Droid to help develop a mobile application recently, and even though it has similar specs to the MT3G, and the same OS version, there is not lag in the screen rotation. I've installed most of the same apps on the Droid and still there is no lag.
Is there something else that could be causing the lag? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you uninstalled task killer yet? they actually do way more harm than good.
Froyo on Mt3g 1.2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I thought the only Froyo images for MT3g 1.2 were buggy at best and didn't support wifi or camera, among other things.
A guy I work with just put Froyo on his G1 and says it works faster than Eclair. I want in on that action!
As a MT3G user, I've found that the 6.0 Rom from CY is horrible with a Mytouch sadly. It's the rom not agree'ing with the Mytouch that is the problem, not the phone.
I'd suggest the 6.1 RC1 Mod from Cy, or this linked Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814142
I've had no problem with the linked rom working for me. I had some minor issues with the RC1 not recieving all my texts, though honestly I upgraded my radio at the same time as changing over to the new Rom, so I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the Radio.
Hi guys, I'm having a problem with Cyanogen Mod where it does not recognize my own phone number and does not alert me to new voicemails.
I've done many a search and only found reference to the settings in the advanced call area where I've input my numbers manually but they never seem to save for more than a few hours.
I'm wondering how everyone else is dealing with these issues or if there's something obvious that I'm missing, or maybe this is just a Bell problem now. The lack of voicemail alerts is really the only issue keeping me from using Cyanogen Mod as my daily ROM.
I've been thinking of starting a similar thread myself! It seems other people are having similar issues (with Bell Canada, or in my case Virgin Mobile Canada who use the bell network).
Basically we should be receiving voicemail alerts (in the form of a text message) but are not.
I am on Cyanogen Mod 6.1 Stable using a HTC Legend. I entered the Bell Canada voicemail number myself into the settings (+16473832333)
Does anyone know what could possibly be stopping us from receiving these alerts?
I can confirm that I don't experience this issue with the rooted stock roms including the brand new Froyo 3.15 release.
I have never been able to receive these messages with Cyanogen based roms, Indigo Bean, Azure or Cyanogen 6.1 stable.
How can we start to diagnose the problem?
Hopefully we can get some pointers from the Legend development forum crew!?
Please get involved if you are having a similar issue!
same problem here
I'd love a fix!
I'm with Virgin Mobile (so Bell network) and get the exact same problem!
bump
Multiple people with the same problem (all seem to be in Canada on Bell and Rogers). Also the problem is not just on HTC Legend it seems.
I left a voicemail for myself and took a look at alogcat warnings, don't really know what I'm looking for though

Took a look at Cyanogen issue tracker and couldn't find the issue.
Anyone have any pointers of what to do next?
Here are a couple of posts found elsewhere on the same issue:

Tested on Blay0's Froyo rom for Legend (based on HTC Froyo), notification and inbox notification works fine.

Quick update:
Using CM7 the phone can now remember its own number so I don't have to input it after each reboot, which is nice.
Still a no-go for voicemail alerts, although I did manage to get an alert pushed to the phone one day randomly. It was a 5 day old message that I hadn't bothered to check that came in both as an alert and text alert, hasn't happened since.
Also, a quick thanks to everyone showing interest in solving this issue.

I got excited when I saw that you got one notification. Too bad it's only 1. I'm keeping an eye on this issue too. I would love to check out the new CM7.
I've gotten voicemail alerts before a few times on cm 6.1 and cm7. I'm on Bell. I mean I certainly don't get them a lot, but i blame that on no one loving me
Is the phone forgetting its number a known issue on CyanogenMod, or is this a rarer bug?
Any other bugs to note before I flash?
I haven't noticed any bugs (aside from it forgetting your phone number) in my week of using it, but I don't use voicemail anyways.
I did a test an left me a message, no notification. cm7
Damn it, I had high (voicemail) hopes for CM7, hmm.

When you say forgetting your phone number do you mean the voicemail number or actual phone number of the phone itself.
Do you think this is connected?

hi there,
i can't say i have issues with the voicemail, as i don't have voicemail, but I can confirm that my legend running cyanogen 6.1.0 on the bell network doesn't konw it's own number.
Settings > About Phone > Status
shows my number as "unknown"
if i enter the number and reboot it's gone.
i called bell a few weeks back and had them do an OTA (over the air) update to my number, and nothing changed.
if i open SIM toolkit, the number is listed in there, but not in the phone itself.
hope that helps a little.
Would anyone be willing to head over to Cyanogen issue tracker and report the voicemail bug? I see there is a similar one for Rogers on the Desire. Wondering if its the voicemail protocol these Canadian providers are using.
https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/
I'm using BlaY0's rom at the moment, so can't do the required alogcat but if someone has CM 6/7 up and running?
I'll see if I can get around to doing that in the near future.
My other reason for posting again is that I just recieved a text message alert notifying me of 3 new voicemails. These are fairly old voicemails from earlier this week that I never bothered to check (just returned the calls), but it's nice to see that they can come through... just not when I need/want them to, lol.

Well its something at least! I'll flash a nightly when I get the chance and check it out also
Got around to flashing RC4 on the Legend, great rom, but as suspected no surprises, still not getting voicemail notification (voicemail symbol/SMS) unfortunately.
Anyone of you BELL users knows if the bugs still exist ?
I'd like to try the CM stable or NIghtly provided all of the commonly used functions are *usable* ( or have work arounds)
Right now i'm on blayo and this is the only ROM i used since i rooted a while back... never bothered with the other ROMS because they each have something not working ... but i'd like to try something new for a change
Did anyone get the latest security update yet from AT&T?
Looks like it was security patches, but my Messaging and Gallery apps changed.
I am OK with the gallery app, and the Messaging app is OK with the exception the text is pretty damn small! I know you can pinch to zoom, but I am unable to find anyway to keep the ZOOM setting I selected in the new Messaging app, as soon as I back out and go back to a person I was chatting with, the text is back to being small.
Just confirming I'm not the only one with this issue.
Chris
Oh, believe me, you are not alone. Mine is doing the same thing. It is also showing replies to texts in white text boxes with white type. I had to switch my purchased themes 4 times to find one that didn't do this! I also lost the ability to schedule messages, and lost all of my quick responses! This is VERY annoying.
Krista
Ditto here, white text on white background for incoming texts. Exceptionally annoying.
A few people have complained on the AT&T support forums (https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-Discussion-Support/Text-bubble-issue/m-p/5452599/thread-id/35765), but it seems the forum moderators are going thru and deleting threads and replies. And so far, the only "answer" wasn't an answer at all, just a canned response pointing to a tutorial (that wasn't there last night, btw) on how to change messaging settings.
If anyone has any ideas, please let us know.

I don't understand what you mean, please explain.
It's another SMS app, you can download it on the playstore.
Thanks everyone for confirming it wasn't just me. It's a shame because the stock txting app wasn't pretty bad for the past ~2 years....here's hoping AT&T steps up, otherwise I will go third party too...
Pulse is awesome. I have the paid subscription and can access my txts from any device.
First, new "update" fubared text messaging; now, there's something running in the background that's turning it into a hotplate & sucking the battery down in just a couple hours, instead of decent consumption all day long. Even after a reboot & running the "save battery" app in Settings, it's still warm to the touch, & draining the battery too quickly.
Does AT&T have plans to fix this, or is this a push to force an upgrade? (this I put to them on their forum)
SAMSUNG-SM-G891A

Patch level January 1, 2018 (so no shenanigans about "security enhancements" in this one, they ain't there)
There were betas for these updates for several months now. There must have been some big changes under the hood and this one came as a 500MB update rather than a 35MB security patch. Probably stuck with any bugs until the next major update which will most likely be Oreo. All of this is just speculation on my part.
I didn't receive any notification on my S7 Active regarding BETAs - how do you sign up for those? I would have gladly given feedback on this Messaging app....
They don't have a beta program open to the public as far as I know. Over on the firmware update thread, user khaliullov posts a link to firmware and uncovered a way to directly download firmware from ATT's servers. That's where I've seen betas for this update for the past few months. You don't want to have those betas installed as they offer no upgrade path, so you would be stuck with the issues that whatever beta you used came with.
Got it - thanks for the info!
Looks like time to investigate rooting the phone...
Just got prompted for another update - let's see what this one does...

Same here, can't really see any difference in anything so far.
No difference here either, unfortunately. I was really hoping the Messages app would be updated. This new one SUCKS.
Is there anyone would could grab the old messaging app, make it a APK and then let us sideload it? I would be VERY interested in this, as would others.... this new Messaging app is junk!
The new messaging app is really weird, but all the features are there.... you hafta hit the + sign & the features come up. To schedule messages and more.
Could be worse, half your account could be stuck in Spanish. It's been well over a year and they still can't do anything about it. Lol.
