Are you saying that you can't turn off wifi at all, or that you can turn it off, but you want it to turn off automatically when in standby?

I guess he wants wifi automatically turn off when in standby. this one is bothering me as well.
yes exactly..
i want to turn it off when its on standby..
Have you uninstalled WifiNoStandby and done a soft reset afterwards?
yes i've uninstalled it(wifinostandby) and still wifi is active on standby.
Where in the registry did you check?
It should be HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms:HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended = 0
yes i've set it to zero also.
In that case, I'm sorry to say but something else is affecting your wifi status. I know for sure it's not WifiNoStandby as the only thing it does is set that registry value to 1 every time you restart. Since you've uninstalled it and that values is definitely 0 then something else must be interfering. I'd be very interested to find out what that is myself!
i've solved it.
i dont know how.
i just know i've uninstalled wifino&bsb tweaks and change the parameters at registry.
interesting.

there is a significant problem i just found out (i have been using symbian before).
wifi connection will not stay connected when the phone turns off in standby mode?
i really need to keep the connection alive.
i could uncheck 'turn off in xx minutes', but then the display will stay dimmed
which is not a good solution for me. power/saving bar is on full left, also disconnect wifi in xx minutes is disabled.
so, how do i do that even when the lights are off? dont tell me there is no way for that.
You need to install Advanced Configuration Tool.
http://julien.schapman.free.fr/touchxperience/advanced-configuration-tool.php
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
There's an option you can tick to get the wifi to stay alive whilst it's on standby.
thank you for mentioning this program. it is quite useful
i have tried the advanced config tool to keep wifi connection, but it seems not working.
as soon the light turns off, wifi gets disconnected. and it gets reconnected immediately when it's back on
i have changed both:
'turn off wifi if no activity: no'
'wifi auto-off timeout to 9000000'
is there another setting i am missing or am i doing something wrong?

I can't find the option to keep the wi-fi on during standby. I have the config prog installed, and have read the documentation, but can't find the option to keep the wi-fi on during standby!
Edit, sorry my mistake.
Yes I'm having the same problem also it reconnects fine.
But you are right it should keep alive even in standbye.

Thanks . I just forgot this was the way to go ...
But keep in mind that this option will SUCK all your battery very soon.....
Why dont you just turn the backlight off instead of standby when you want wifi to stay on. This way you dont need to mess with wifi setting.

I am using AE Button which has an option to turn backlight off.
btw: I am using version 2.6.3 which I think have a bug ie if you the use the option inside AEB to turn on wifi, the wifi stays on even if you press the top power-off button. This "bugged" version fits your requirement nicely.

Same thing for me
the problem is wifi scanning.
on my old Nokia N95 (Symbian OS) i could turn off wifi scanning BUT keep the wifi connected to the router. that resulted being connected to something without constantly scanning for new routers or access points.
i dont know why but in all WM devices we do not have a possibility to turn off wifi scanning at all while keeping the wifi sesstion running.
I know I know there are tons of topics about this
But here this out. I ve got the problem for about a week and hope some one can help me out.
After 30 secs my screen goes to dimmed-fase ( correctly as I setted )
And after 1 min. it suppose to auto turn it off but, it does try to by it only locks it down so the screen stays dimmed and doesnt go in standby ( total black screen and stuff )
Any one know what this might be?
Ive check the power settings and I have ticked the auto turn off after a ... minutes not used :S
So hope some one can help me out cause it drains my poor battery
sounds like a software issue, perhaps someone here knows the correct registry settings applicable to powersaving
I hope some one knows Cause I thought there were more folks that are looking for this
is it plug in for recharging? if yes, it's normal, during rechargind, it dimms out after 30 mins or so (please check both options, to dim out after 1-2 mins.)
Nope just normal use, so I sure hope some one knows the right registry setting to it
When plugged in USB and sync with PC, the Touch HD stays on with dimmed backlight. No matter how long the settings to turn off the backlight, the backlight still keep on its minimum level.
This is totally different with my Hermes, which the backlight can turn completely off after some time.

I noticed that happens even when using a bluetooth to sync. No matter cable or not, connected activesync keeps light on.
Arrggh? Does no one know the right registry key value to it ? its quit annoying
*bump*
Really no one knows anything about this
same problem for me
I use LumOS, are you using it too ?
I removed LumOS, and everything is good now
Do you have MobileMagic installed?
I did and it had 'Stay On' activated in its settings which meant it always stayed on!
Might be the case here too!

Even if my HD has no LumOS or Mobile Magic (from hard reset), the problem (backlight stays on during USB sync) still exist.
P.S. My previous X1 has the same behaviour...

Well I had it installed but I removed it later one cause I didnt liked it too much
But the problem still occurs so there most be a registry value that didnt change with the install :\ or something
I've looked up some registry value's but really dont know which one i've have to edit
or if I even have looked up the right one
BatteryTimeOut 30
BatteryTimeoutTemp 0
BatteryTimeoutUnchecked 0
Maybe some one that still has the function that the screen goes black after a while.
Can look up the registry value's ? here is the path I dont know if i'm looking at the right point:
HKCU\\ControlPanel\Backlight
Maybe some one is kind enough to list all of there value in this map ?
PS:
My problem is that my blacklight doesnt go fully to black and that's when using it normal. Not connected to anything or something .
It usualy goes to black after a XX amount of time. but that doesnt happen any more :\
Dang no one is offering his self up too look up those registery valves
Guys, the fix is simple. You must have turned on the Autolock feature using HD Tweak or Advanced Config.
If yes, just turn it off.
I have got the autolock function on, did it via HDtweak
Havent check it via Advanced config.
But I dont know what you mean with the last sentence?
Should I turn it on or off?
Edit:
Well dang you were right, i've turned off the autolock function.
And now the display does go to black.
But I find it strange that it worked nicely a few weeks ago and now the problem occurs
so any idea?
*bump*
still no one has found the solution?
wrong reply
Is there any way to kill data connection when the device goes to sleep or you hit the sleep button?
Too much of a battery hit?
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks,
wab
Anyone? It would really make my day! Cheers.
Me too! So need auto disconnect.
+1 here, big battery drain
data battery drain
This was not an issue for me on my HD, while a lot of people felt it was an issue for them.
Battery drain was not noticably more with data on to data off.
I did use an email scheduler on my HD, as I had MSVC set to announce new msgs and didn't want to be woken at night.
Google Gudensoft email scheduler.
No guarantee it will work on the HD2.
I think phonealarm has this functionality
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
Cheers David
Thanks davwil. Although I was hoping for a free solution. Don't want to have to pay 18.50 for this basic function..
Any other experienced winmo users care to help?
Thanks!
surely theres a reg entry to enable this... need 2 know!
Hello,
replace on registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off
CacheTime = xxx (where xxx are seconds before auto disconnect)
Try at first CacheTime = 10 so you can test the "function".
I'm using this, that DON'T suspend at sleep, but disable data after usage.
Hey Guys,
I just tried the reg tweak, it works perfectly whilst the phone is on... however, as soon as there is an event that triggers the connection when the phone is in sleep mode it just stays connected. In my case, if the phone syncs with my hotmail account when i am using the device it disconnects perfectly .. not so much when it was sleeping!
Can u think of any other way to solve this??
I've been trying some other tweaks and cabs .. nodatainroaming.cab and the cristoff diamond tweak utility .. but they all have the same problem ..
if anyone knows a way around this .. please let me know.
I've googled around with no solution, till now, for this "issue".
I've been experiencing this issue too. The reg edit works fine when the phone is being used but when locked etc the data connection stays alive.
I've just done a ROM upgrade to 1.66.707.1, and now my Wifi connection kees enabling itself.
I'm sure that I missed something to make it not connect, but what?
Anyone here who might have a clue what it could be?
Thank you.
Hmm that sounds like something I have seen before. I had a similar issue when I had the hd2 12 button action screen installed. Do you have that?

No.. I've not installed that.
I'm also not using Stocks, Weather, Internet time sync and so on, and I thing that if I would, the phone would use the gprs option.
Tomorrow, I'll re check all applications that I'm running to see if I've missed a setting.
Im just curious.
When you disable/enable wifi do you use the comm.manager or another program???

Switch the phone into airplane mode (in the comm manager) and the startup wizard should popup. Just run through that process.

Maybe put it in airplane mode and restart it. It sounds like the issue that some others have had after installing 1.66. It runs the setup wizard in the background, and that automatically starts wifi. My biggest concern if this is the case is that your phone isn't set up to work on the network yet.
Try it anyway and see how you get on.

Okay.. I've put it in "Airplane mode", turned off and back on the phone.
Still not setup wizard.
Did the same thing again and soft reset. Still no setup wizard.
I'm going to give it some more runs, but if no luck I will install an other ROM (custom one), to see if my problem is gone.
I'll report back if I know more.
Thank you for your input.
re: isn't set up to work on the network yet
It is.. All my network connections are working fine.
I think is an issue of Wifi Toggle.
I had the same issue and stopped using it.

Hi everyone
I have a strange problem since a couple of days. If turn my HD2 off (standby) the wifi connection remains alive. This naturally is a massive battery drain and the only thing I can do, is to manually turn it of whenever I don't need it. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.
After this problem appeared I thought I might have accidentally turned on the WiFi Standby tweak in BsB Tweaks. It appears turnoff in BsB Tweaks. So I thought I might try turning it on an then off again to clean up the registry, but I don't seem to be able to turn it on so it sticks. I'm thinking maybe BsB Tweaks isn't actually showing whether it's turned on or not. Does anyone know the reg-key concerned, so I can check manually whether it's turned on.
Thanks for your help
Greetings

I have exactly the same problem. Have you found a solution?
I had this problem today where it constantly kept trying to connect and my battery went from 73% to 4% within a few hours, even though i selected cancel.
do you have bsbtweaks installed? there is a tweak in there that lets wifi stay on when on standby, perhaps that is active?
this is not issue this is normal , as they make the end key closes the screen they should have stretched the wifi turn off time after standby so wait from 2-3 minuites after going to stand by and you will find it closed automatically

it was doing exactly how you say before, but it now never disconnects. I keep forgetting to turn it off and it's such a battery killer. "keep wifi connection in standby" is not active under BSB Tweaks by the way.

Check this registry value...
HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms:HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended
It should be 0 to turn off wifi when in standby.
Hope this helps
Edit:
Ignore the space in "HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended" above. It's this forum - it's always doing that
I've found this:
HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms:SuspendOffDelayInterval
I've set it from default 30000(30 seconds) to 5000 (5 seconds) and WiFi does restart when I power-on after 5 seconds.

This thread is interesting. I, on the other hand, would like to keep wifi ON while in standby (with screen off). For certain programs such as Pandora, I would like it playing in the background but have my screen off.
I am having the opposite issue. I can't seem to make it do that given the tips I found already on this thread.
I tried changing the following from 0 to 1 but noticed that when I poweroff phone, it goes back to being 0. Can anyone help me out? Sorry I don't mean to take over your thread. Maybe I should start a new similar thread with an opposite meaning..
