Applying my first ROM - Please Advise..

OK so I've been doing my research and figured out what I wanted to flash my Magic with. Before I get into that though, for reference - here is my version info:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 SAPP50000
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
May 8 2009,21:02:32​
Now, I am planning to use the following recovery:
[Recovery] [32A & 32B] [08-Dec-2009] RA-sapphire-v1.5.1
And flash the following rom:
[ROM][32A][Nov07] MyHero 2.0.5 with Official SenceUI on HTC Kernel 2.6.27
As far as I can tell I won't need to install a different SPL?
These are the steps I am planning to take:
Backup all my apps and APN details
Use fastboot to boot the recovery rom
Make a backup of my current rom
Wipe data
Copy new rom to SD and flash it
This list seems almost too simple though, I feel like I am forgetting something.. can anyone with more experience than me (I am a complete rookie) please check this and let me know if I'm missing something?
Also, any hints and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Of the 78 views is there really no one with any input? Really I'm just looking for some simple feedback.. if all I said seems correct to you, please let me know. I am holding off flashing my phone for the first time to be sure that I got all the details right.

The only thing i can't remember when a exactly i copied the update.zip file.
For the rest, it's ok. No need the SPL. I've got the same rom.

You can go for it, the procedure you describe is OK. Too simple? Sure it is but who said it wasn't?
My only advice would be to prefer Magic GyD over MyHero but it's a matter of taste, I guess (also Redglasses seems to have left the building while GyD is still active... we can therefore still get answers to our questions and even bugfixes if needed)
Happy flashing and as said before there's no real need to change your SPL yet, both mentioned ROMs will flash and work fine using this one.

Yes, all fully working SenseUI ROMs run on 1.5
I have no really convincing reason to tell you to switch but I'm using Magic GyD because I feel, after trying MyHero, CaSense and GyD, that it's the "closest to bugfree" custom SenseUI ROM available for 32A. The devs will probably stop there because 2.0 is coming and these ROMs will keep their pros and cons. It's unlikely that MyHero 2.xx will ever get its Market bug fixed, for example. Case also said he will probably not develop his ROM further.
I really hope they can get the camera working with 2.0 soon because that's the only reason I'm staying away from it at the moment.

I gotta say, I've been using MyHero for a full day now and I haven't run into a single bug yet. I do have to terminate all background apps once I start to run +/- 5 or more but that's not a big deal imo.
My only complaint is that it isn't runnin on 1.6

Does anyone know how to update or upgrade and HTC magic from rogers

Im sort of new to android and dont really know much about these things but I want to upgrade my phone from crappy 1.5 to like Eclair or Sense UI or anything other than 1.5 (I hate it)
P.S.
I had a dream before and I tried to flash a rom and it bricked so is there like a Rom for the magic for rogers that is safe, like for sure?

Yes, you can root your phone. Try to include detailed information about your phone so people can give you specific information regarding your phone and even give you some links.
For example, use a signature such as:
Sapphire HTC Magic 32A
RADIO-3.22.20.17

I flashed a htc hero rom and then i couldnt turn it on anymore or go to recovery, but I have another question do I need a special SPL to be able to flash roms or is any fine

The post is quite recent and even right now they still are going to release it. Things got delayed to the device problem of 911 not working with gps feature on.

Now, since you posted your question: if you want SenseUI running on 2.1 you'll have to wait a bit because the source or rom image is not available yet. There are some experimental roms available, but I doubt they are for everyday use (some things are still not working). You can however run vanilla 1.6 if you want a higher and stable Android version, but it won't come with SenseUI. Vanilla Eclair is also an option, but currently not as stable as 1.6 (same reason, no 2.1 source/rom image/drivers made available yet), but they are getting there.

u can have a sense ui running on 1.5, if you are only concerned with how it looks. Just flash the cursorsence rom, if u have 32a phone. ensure u dont have a perfect spl. If you did the rogers dream->magic switch, likely you have a 32a phone with 1.33.0010 perfect spl. you must get rid of this first.

I have a Rogers HTC Magic. I haven't upgraded the SPL or the Radio. I'm currently running "[ROM] [32A] Android 1.6 Super Stable & Super Fast... [FEB 10th] Old Radio" for everyday use and it works great.
If your are really new at this, go to theunlockr dot com. Scroll down a little and you'll see a drop box called "Select a Category" select HTC MyTouch 3G/Magic, scroll down again. You'll see 2 video links for "How To: Root the HTC Magic in One Click!" and "How To: Load a Custom ROM on Your HTC Magic".

Need help rooted roms, widgets broke, can't "touch the android to begin"

I'm not new to this I've flased a lot of G1s
Trying to flash the Magic I have I'm running into serious problems tho
I got it rooted no problem
The problem is only certain roms will even work
For instance if I flash cyanogen newest mod (After first flashing defanged and not rebooting first, yes I don't need my hand held on every step, I THINK I'm going it right it's not working) anyways after I flash it it fires up but I cannot "touch the droid" the touch screen simply does not work
This happens on almost all the roms I try
There are 3 that DO work though, it's not hardware, when I flash back to any of these 3 the touch screen starts working so I don't think it can be hardware problem

These 3 Rom install no problem
The problem is Ra-Ion and Dwang the widgets don't work, they won't update at all
And the Jacheroski has problems moving icons and widgets (Yes I know this is prob because it's hero)
The point is I can't get a stable rom where the widgets AND the touch screen work correctly
And I've tried a few of them, Cyanogen and Xrom Eclair both I can't touch the android
Can anyone help me get a correct rom that the widgets work on? Prefferable 1.6 or higher, I don't need the newest best rom, just a stable rom where it's rooted and the widgets work
I did some google searches about not being abel to touch the android but it only showed me the fender edition and the new one with the 3.5mm jack which is not what I have

Try Super D 1.9.3. Very stable, very fast. I wouldn't use any other ROM, personally. Sounds like you are having conflicts. Are you performing a full wipe before flashing over new roms? Silly suggestion, but it always seems to fix the problems. Also, what recovery are you using?

Yes I always wipe all 3 partitions before each flash
I believe it's amanra 1.6.2 it's the newest one I could find
It's real weird, when I flash a one of those 3 roms the touch screen starts working every time, then stops any time I flash others

Do older ones work? I confirm that RA-IONv1.6.3G.zip works. My widgets (power, calendar, search) work just fine.

It's because a rom has to be ported in a certain way in order for the touch screen to work. Search for Fender roms. The Fender and mt3g with 3.5mm headset jack are the same thing. It's not the same hardware as the original mt3g, and HTC has not yet released all the goodies that the devs need to work with and make new roms.

Oops, my mistake. The 3.5 jack version was the only one I'd heard about with the touchscreen not working.

[Q] what is the most stable SenseUI ROM

I have tried many 2.1 Sense UI ROM's on my Magic 32B :-
Sapphire PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBoot- 1.33.2005 (SAPP10000)
Radio- 2.22.19.26I
I have faced many issues ranging from non-working GPS or Market through to constant FC's when I had found a ROM that wouldn't FC on me I had to either patch the GPS flash gapps to my phone or even flash the BFS230 file only to be hit with issues. I have been hitting a brick wall on here with so many different ROM's with various different fixes etc and now I just want a 2.1 Sense UI ROM that will work fine for daily use with few to no FC's or constant lag.
My class 4 sdcard is partitioned to swap/ext4/fat32 and no change in problems.
I have not had many issues with 1.5 Sense UI but it can be a bit of a battery drainer
I am currently running AOSP Froyo 2.2 without any problems apart from the fact I can not load up the HTC_IME keyboard app as I cannot use a qwerty keyboard well on my phone because I have large fingers which are not that nimble. I do have BetterKeyboard (i haven't tried with froyo 2.2 yet) but that doesn't seem to do the T9 predictive text.
Please can someone help me out?
EDIT......Thanks to Gimpsta.com I have now got my T9 customised keypad. Does anyone know how I can link facebook profile to my phonebook WITHOUT SenseUI as I have found the Froyo ROM 95% ideal now just to link my contacts similer to the people app on senseui

[Q] Things that DO NOT work in DK rom

First of all, I want to say that DK rom is super-cool
Here are some things that are not working as it should:
1. no wallpapers in HTC wallpapers section
2. no scenes
3. HTC Peep won't connect to twitter, nor official Twitter app from market
I'm at CWM 3.0.0.6 and DK rom 4.5
P.S. there is also a stand-alone theme about no HTC wallpappers, so I hope that solution will be found eventually

This seems to be some issue with getting S-OFF with AlphaRev X and then formatting your device (?). I don't think this is ROM related.

My suspicion was also related to AlpharevX, I mean people did their best to S-Off wildfires for free, and we can't blame them... anyway purpose of this thread was to gather all experiences from different users, and then we could try to find a solution.
I installed alpharevx, no problems with that, did factory reset from original rom, just before gone into CWM, and did the nandroid backup... seems to me that after installing AlpharevX wallpapers were gone, but I didn't pay attention... (stupid me.. )
Also after alpharevx I just can't receive nor send mms messages, like before, just generic network error appears again, and again... setings were exact the same as in stock rom where everything was fine, Wifi off, but it can't receive...bummer

From what I have read from other members reports so far, it seems if you factory reset after getting S-OFF, only then you experience a lot of errors, typically similar to the ones you are seeing. Also, if I am not wrong, it seems to affect only Sense ROMs (?)

So... is there any way to correct this.. for example flash ruu with goldcard and then s-off without factory reset, like I did???

It seems there is a problem with X AlphaRev causing non-functioning send / receive MMS.
Someone AlphaRev X installed and was able to send / receive MMS?
