I have a quick question, has anyone experienced their phone vibrating for no apparent reason? Ive felt my phone vibrate and go to check and come to find out I have no message/notifications at all. Has anyone experienced this or am I just going crazy? Thanks ^_^
phantom vibration syndrome. Sometimes I get it even when my phone isn't in my pocket.
Ah. So I assume a cause hasn't been found?

BAHAHA, THAT'S funny!
I've had the same thing happen to me, although only when my phone is in my pocket... Actually it did vibrate for no reason today setting on my desk. Doesn't happen much and I figure minor bugs come with the territory of custom ("unofficial") software
I'd put it in my front pocket, if you know what I mean. wink wink
But yea, it's happened one or two times.
I get the phantom vibration on my left leg all the time, even when the phone is no where near me.

The cause is when your phone vibrates in your pocket around 100 times, it starts to damage the nerves. Sounds scary, but no biggie. All that happens is the nerve sometimes feels vibrating even if the phone is nowhere near your pocket.

That's a funny article but far from a citation.
Reading that article I remember times that actually had happened to me, with some 90's nokia's, my samsung A900 and a couple times with blackberry's. I'm not gonna lose any sleep tonight.
Happens for me too
the phantom vibe.. I just figured it was demon possessed...
I know what phantom vibration is, I wanted a citation saying something about it being caused by nerve damage, because I don't believe that for a second.

I hope the new updatee fixes the non us navigation licensing and picasa sync amongst other things
Well im assuming hes talking about this recent update ERE36B. Cause im not sure if OP has rooted. hmmm
I am more concern about the touch screen problem. Not the Multitouch one, but the one about the touch screen goes crazzzy (seriously a phone that is operate completely by touch screen and the touch screen is not reliable??? what the heck is Google/HTC thinking?). That is the main thing that is keeping me from this phone.

I'd be curious to see the actual number of people suffering from this problem since so few people are complaining about it. Mine doesn't have this issue.
My screen goes crazy.
Every day or so ill turn the phone on where the top half of the screen wil be fine, but the bottom half will be out of calibration by about an inch. I'll feel the vibrate from the Buttons at the bottom when im clearly about an inch about them. Reboot fixes

i must be one of the few people who are lucky as well. I don't have the screen calibration error. Every blue moon the wrong spot will light up but i just have to press it again, no need to exit out of app or reset. I've only had my n1 for a 1 1/2 months, i was not one of the early adopters, if that means anything.
Also, no screen calibration issues. Hope the new OTA opens up the rest of the N1 Ram!

Get your palms off the side of the screen and it'll work fine.

The only screen issue I have is when I am using the phone via BlueTooth and need to Mute the phone.. when I hit the Mute button, it presses the 0 button instead. I just have to hit power to turn off the screen for a few seconds and turn it on and it works as expected again.

Look like my comment fired up a storm. According to Google help forum, there are about 2000 posts, some are just back and fore, but even then it still come to a sizable #, most of them done like 4 -5 exchanges and still have the problem. I have 1 more month until I pull a trigger on this phone, hoping to see improvement.

I have issues with touchscreen stuff all the time. When I type fast I'll get all kinds of errors... I also have the issue when sometimes no matter where I click on the screen it only hits the home button... I really hope this gets cleared up.
Well I must have very bad luck because this is my second N1 with the problem.Return the first one 00 because the screen craziness and receive a new one 01 (different badge) and also has the problem. But I'm keeping this one, anyway is rooted already and notices is better way better, but the problem still here, but just ,put it to sleep and wake-up and fix it.I don't know the cause of this if software or hardware but definitely not everybody has it.I downloaded a drawing app from the market and I can see that when the problem I touch someplace near the middle of the screen and it recognized the touch as a straight line all the way to the bottom.

And I always make sure I'm not making contact with the screen with the palm or anything else.
This is to get an idea about Touchscreen calibration issue with nexus one. I am trying to figure out if those of us who have faced this problem need to get replacement or just wait for software update.
Calibration of the battery or the touchscreen?... Very vague post... Give us the issues.

Touch Screen calibration. The lower 3/4 part of the screen starts acting crazy and registers touch below what you are touching. Needs a soft-reset; solves the issue temporarily.
Used to experience them semi-regularly. Seldom after switching to custom ROMs; both Cyanogen's and Modaco's Desire seem to have lessened the problem somewhat, though I can't imagine why as I don't think either developer poked around with the drivers or anything. And since I've been on custom ROMs for quite a while now, I'm certain it's not a placebo effect. I simply very rarely experience the problem anymore.
I too rarely experience this anymore after switching to Desire.
Also, soft-reset is not necessary. Turn the screen off for 3 seconds.
Damn it. It happen to me today again. I was browsing my email with one finger on the screen in the middle flipping through. Then all of sudden the phone kept vibrating as if I was touching the icons below. Then the search box pop up, a voice search came up and a task screen as if pressed those buttons!! I should have recorded it. Anyway I put the phone to sleep and wake it again and all is well for now. Anyone think this is a hardware problem???
never have had this happen, only thing i have noticed is when another part of my hand is touching the edge of the screen..
I talked with Google customer service today. She acknowledged that it is fairly common issue and insisted that it is not a hardware issue and even her phone has the same behavior. Whatever it is, they will cover it under warranty. So, i will wait for a month and if problem is unsolved, I will ask for replacement.

The ONLY calibration issue I have seen is when I am on my BT Hands free in the truck and go to hit the Mute button, it registers and presses the 0 (zero) key instead.
Hitting power (to turn off the screen) and turning it back on again (after a 2-3 second pause) fixes it...
Annoying, but not unusable...

As in you take it simple. You spent money on the phone and it has problems like those, you making seem normal for a phone that cost 500 plus. Almost like your giving permission to other manufactures that says its okay to have these problems.

I don't see why being $500+ should matter. FYI, the price range this handset falls into is the typical, NORMAL price being not subsidized to a network.

Kool then. Lets just hope this is a software issue. Because of Google silence on the matter, I cannot decide whether or not to return or swap the phone. Mainly because I don't know for a fact if its software and my 14days ends this Thursday
Maybe its a app installed causing the issue...
maybe its a design issue, arn't the antennas down in that part of the phone? If it happens with the desire ROMs too?
If it was easy to fix surely it would be fixed by now as its quite widely reported

What makes you a genius, maybe we all have a app that causes our **** to go buggy when Its open or something... could easily be the dealio.... I don't have the problem so I don't care, but I know apps can make things very buggy....
I doubt it is a app, but it could be, and others that flashed roms that don't have the problem anymore well, maybe the new rom and app aren't conflicting, just a guess....
Splodge, was the only way I could describe it...take a look at the attached photo.
I'm certain I have seen someone else post this before.
It just happened randomly! Was fine all day yesterday, then picked my phone up to answer it last night, and after the phone call had ended I saw this on the screen...
Touch screen still works, and you can still see underneath it, its less visible when the back light is on. Of course when it's off, you can see the effect it has!
So...what is it? Easily fixed or what?
Like I said, I'm sure I have seen this posted by someone else before...
Hehe... nice one. It will most likely disappear if you gently pull the glass with a suction cup.
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Suction cup thing works but then it comes back.
HTC said it would be out of warrenty :S and they would have to look at it first.
O2 however, said if its in warrenty (which it is) then they will get it repaired and supply a courtesy handset while they have it.
i had one the same size it has slowly gone to half the size 5 pence piece but o2 said its not under warrenty and i work for a major phone retailer and my repairs guy said it may so im very unsure wuld have re flash it as its hspl grrr

interesting, well I'm taking it to the O2 store next week, so will see what they say, will keep the email i had off them saying they will as backup!
It has reduced in size, but still has the rainbow pattern in the middle.
I had a similar screen problem however it didnt look anywhere near as bad as yours. Mine had slight discolouration mostly noticable on white backgrounds. Pressing the screen a little bit harder than normal created the sort of effect you get when pressing the screen of a calculator (dont know what to call it) I took mine to the o2 shop with a different fault and also mentioned this fault. I got it back 6 days later but they hadnt fixed the screen problem. I sent it off again then and there and 6 days later i got a new phone.
O2 now have my HD2
Been given a nasty old Nokia phone as a temp...forgot how small some screens are...lol
should take 7-10 days they said...so fingers crossed...
Any way of fixing this problem without sending it back as this has happened to my cousins HTC HD2, kind of glad it didn't happen to mine lol, any quick fixes to know about?
I've had the same with my HD2.

LOL!
Well anyway! For me it was very random. The phone was fine all day at work, I had a phone call in the evening, after the phone call I just looked at my phone, and there it was...
Some people have said its caused my the heat of the battery and signal, dunno.
Its a very thin space between the battery and the back of the screen, so maybe thats true.
I can't see how over pressure can cause it as its a glass screen, and glass doesn't bend like plastic.
I had a smaller of these newton rings at the center. Much smaller than yours.
Suddenly one day it disappeared.
It was during summer and I thought it was probably because of the heat.

Hope its fixed soon for you, its interesting about the battery and heat, my hd2 gets warm below the battery and that is also below the main area your problem is on, I suspect its down to a screen fault myself.

One of the more interesting thing I've found about the n4 is that the vibrate function and the glass back seems to mean I'm picking my phone up from the floor.
Any one else get this?
More of a word of warning for those with hard floors any way.

Yes I had my phone on the table today, and I saw it fall of the table. I checked the phone and I had received a text. Luckily it was on carpet.
What kind of a question is this??
Things vibrate. Vibrations make it move around a bit.
But don't tell me that the N4 was vibrating soooo long that it slipped of the table and had some nice 'bungee jumping without a rope' exercise. Every phone that doesn't have a rubber back does that.
Buy a TPU case, put the phone on something that'll prevent it moving around. And don't let it vibrate for hours and hours.
But please, no more of these completely pointless questions. You clog up the forums.
Lol the don has spoken.
Any way I've found a bit of electrical tape on a coaster stops it from sliding onto the floor.
Mainly happens in the morning when the phone alarm is set.
As stated in the op more of a word of warning for those of us who came from a phone with a ruberised back.
I woke up one morning last week and my phone was acting like it had a mind of its own. It was activating the navigation buttons over and over again even though it was sitting on the table untouched. This made the phone pretty much useless since every time I opened an app the phone immediately closed it.
To try to fix this I completely wiped the phone and went back to stock. After that I update the touch firmware. This did nothing to fix the problem.
Fast forward about five days later. The phone stopped the behavior as quickly as it has started. Everything was fine with it for about 3 days. I could use every function just like the day I bought it.
BUT now this morning it was back to doing the same exact behavior where it acts like someone is touching the nav buttons constantly. They even light up like someone is pressing them.
Can anyone help me out with this? I am going to end up having to sell it for parts if I can't figure out what is going on.

Looks like your screen is on its way out. Replace it under warranty if u can. My first phone did that after some snow fell in the earpiece area last winter.
After that the top part of the screen was no longer responsive. Before that occured, the phone acted possessed like you're describing

That's what I was afraid of. I am out of warranty which means I am out of luck I think. I was really hoping it was a software issue since it stopped for a few days.
What else do you expect? It called "smartphone" for a reason, right? and your phone happens to be the first one with that kind of intelligence. More like the transformer robot blending into your device heheheheh
Anyway, something wrong with your screen, loose end somewhere?

Thats the thing. Some of these screens go bad by defect. I hear its not hard to swap in a replacement. Look into the full assembly with frame so its quicker and easier.
I may buy one as a spare and store it safe in case my screen goes bad after the warranty expires
