Only problem? Samsung. They've never been amazing with firmware updates. Their app drawer is also really, really ugly.
"Successor" seems a bit of an exaggeration, too, considering this uses a 1 GHz Snapdragon anyway. It's the same generation. I'd consider a device a "successor" if it's the next step up--1.5 GHz processor at the very least.
I bet it will be awesome...until the next version of android comes out.
what about rom/ram?
I'm impressed they have xvid/divx playback in there. I imagine it won't be long until we get that on our nexus one.
And the size??
I mean 4" screen is cool to have, but the whole phone gets bigger...SamsungPad ...but I like the front camera

That's true. I'm eagerly awaiting the next batch of processors, but who knows when that will be?
In the mean time, this has me salivating.

LOL, the exact same thing I thought when I saw it say Samsung.
While I am impressed at all the support for various files, they couldn't force that hideous UI on me.

S: 64.2 x 122.4 x 9.9mm, 118g
Thinner and lighter. Width and height are just barely larger, which is impressive considering the extra 0.3" on the screen size.

This I can't disagree. The S looks like an iPhone clone. The N1 has its OWN style.
Also, there's the HTC Supersonic: basically a HD2 but with Android on it. Sleek as hell, WiMax/4G support, and an even bigger screen! It's about the only phone currently that makes me lust a little.
cool phone, unfortunately looks too much like an iDoesNot.
I just want the codecs/binaries ported!
Super amoled is amoled and touch sensors in the same layer
Htc supersonic ftw!!!!!!!!!
I dont see this phone being thinner as a good thing. The N1 is thin enough as is. Make the Samsung a little thicker than the N1 with a hard keyboard and im sold.
Hmmmmm...
No sir, I don't like it.
WHY DON'T WE GET THE GOOD PHONES IN CANADA I hate that....
Not bad, not bad at all.
Would ditch that UI though.

Okay, so I've had my Nexus one for a while now, and I was wondering what they could possibly do to the nexus 2 that would make it even better. I'm thinking probably a faster processor, and more ram, but what else comes to mind?
would love to see a FM Trans to like "broadcast" to the radio....Like those transmitters for mp3 players....Would be siiiick to have pandora or something playing over car radio via my phone
Don't they have something that does that already?
better use of the snapdragon processor, but that's software related... I would like it to be more durable such as made from a single block of aluminium. Also a powerful graphics chip.

The HTC Legend is a sexy beast lol. I'd like to get my hands on one if it goes GSM.
Yeah, a more powerful graphics chip would be awesome, I just can't wait til the big developers start moving towards android so we can have some of the awesome games and apps the iPhone has.

I second this. God that thing is amazing. But it won't look right until the Supersonic comes out. THEN a decent Rom will be possible in my eyes.
But with Windows Phone 7 I can imagine the devs are busy porting that to it right now.

Not that I could care less... but I would really love for the N2 to have a true multi-touch screen to shut that debate down... 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal ROM, 4" screen, XVGA LCD or SuperAMOLED... I don't like AMOLED for outdoor use. 10MP camera, with xenon flash... and of course Android 3.1!

For less than $500 right?
I will be keeping my Nexus for 2 or more years, whatever comes around the corner - i'll just port it over to the Nexus.. since the N1 is like the G1 in terms of development and popularity, I should be ok for a while..
(this is really what I'm just telling myself.. I dont want my precious Nexus to become.. not worth the time of day anymore...)
Why does technology have to advance so fast!! =(
front facing camera for video chat, a high quality speaker-phone, a kickstand with a projected laser keyboard? an hd projector component
hardware keyboard
x
I myself am sick of the having to chase technology.... I'm done for a bit, my n1 will sufficient for a year, I think thats a good time to get a new phone, once every year...
N1 just needs adobe flash and apps to sd and ill be happy as a cucumber....
Video recording capability @ 24 frames per second (constant!) with DECENT audio quality ... like the Milestone. Why have a 480x720 video resolution when the video is laggy and audio is utter crap? Also a flash option on the video recording would also be good - again, just like the Milestone.
Finally, make FM radio work and you have the perfect device.
the 1ghz processor is enough for me. the current amount of ram is enough- maybe a tad bump is cool.
get rid of the amoled display, 4-4.3 inch display. no trackball. sleep/wake from a hardware button like g1/mytouch. being able to shoot hd video.
other than that... having the nexus one has finally made me not eager to look/have the next best cellular device. this n1 almost kicks my netbooks ass
HTC Zeta rendered, rumored to pack 2.5GHz quad-core CPU and Ice Cream Sandwich

We just got handed imagery and specs of a possible HTC device in the works codenamed the Zeta. It's a quad-core handset, much like the Edge that was leaked last week, but it has a much faster 2.5GHz APQ8064 CPU along with 1GB of RAM running the show, on a 4.5-inch 720p HD display. According to our source, the uniquely shaped smartphone will come with Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed with Sense UI (version 4.0 wasn't specified, but we'd be surprised to see it any lower on an ICS device) and have 32GB of internal storage space, an 1,830mAh battery, Beats Audio, Bluetooth 4.0, an 8MP rear camera with dual LED flash, 1080p video capture and a 1.3MP front-facing cam. Dimensions? We have those, too: the Zeta is said to measure at 109.8 x 60.9 x 9.8mm (4.32 x 2.4 x 0.39 inches) and weigh 5.15 ounces (146g). Pricing and availability aren't known, and we're still digging for more info. It certainly has an intriguing look; the sharp corners would be a huge departure from HTC's recent design choices, though it appears to have HTC's signature unibody build in the back. So are we just looking at a cool concept or is this the next flagship phone? We're hoping it's the latter.

Haha, it's all good man, I like the picture in there better too.
Anyways, this thing looks sharp! I wonder how it'd feel to actually hold it though. And 2.5GHz, quad-core is a ridiculous amount of processor power for a phone, it's crazy.
Yeah and the 2.5ghz??? My laptop sits at 2.1ghz...I could probably use Solidworks or Adobe Illustrator off of this phone sitting in class haha.
I wish they would up the camera sensors on it and bump up to Asia's megapixel and lens technology...13 megapixels and LUMIX lens~

I hope Samsung will release also some info about support of Android versions for this model.
Many people are mad with them for SGS(+) and Ice Cream Sandwich
I don't really care what size the screen is or how many gigaflops it's millions of cores can produce, just don't make it look like crap or make it out of something that creaks if you even glance at it.
Truth is that I will not replace my i9000 to S3 until S3 will be made differently I mean like steel all around (including screen frame) with carbon fiber battery cover, if it is going to be better - it should be better in every single way not just specs. I use my i9000 like an egg and it already have scratches on frame close to usb input and back cover because of my nail. No scratches on screen but i have tiny little dot on glass i do not know how it got there. Samsung was going with galaxy series very well - time to make a quad core tank with lifetime usage possibilities.

So your main criterion for choosing a phone is how it looks?
I've been waiting for this... Will it be the one for real?
surely will have great spec, but just wondering if it's worth its size??? not sure if will replace my SGS (one) or simply buy a tablet to meet my need for internet browsing while on the move... and hope the battery will last for 24hrs of normal usage (two emails/calendars sync on, various apps, internet etc) without looking for power outlet mid-day. My SGS hardly last for one day on one charging...
You could fit a 4.6" screen on a phone around the size of the i9000 if you ditched hard keys and had the screen almost edge-to-edge. I won't buy a phone you need to wear on your belt.e
What's the story with new phones coming in at 4.6"+ displays?
I would think the original galaxy S at 4'' was superb fit for pocket and portability. Increase that to 320ppi with a superamoled HD display and voila we have new SGSIII.
I can't see why they going for such big displays. I even have the 4.3"" HD2 and that's the max I would see for a phone.
There will be disappointment and exhilaration with this release. Either way I am buying this regardless....
EDIT: I am hoping for Wolfson DAC in the audio output. It must have this dac..

Not at all, we all know this thing is going to be a beast of a phone, so I have no worries about it's performance, but I want something that doesn't look like it was designed by an art student trying to be "edgy"
But it is getting to the point now where they will all be more powerful than any of us realistically need for the near future, so the look (OLED vs TFT is becoming more of a non-issue) is the only real thing that's going to differentiate them. I don't like the HTC aesthetic, it's just boring to me, Sony have gone all bling again and others like Motorola just seem to design their phones for corporate boardrooms.
Samsung just seem stuck trying to refine the "not iPhone" shape of the SGS 1 in Europe, and it's getting a little boring, time for something new. And it will probably save them a few quid if Apple can't keep suing them because of a physical home button.

big..........
I don't love how obscenely tall+wide it is, but I can live with that, for a 6 inch screen.
However, it is simply too thick and the non-removable battery is too small.
The Nexus 6 is thicker than all its 6-inch contemporaries (Mate 2, Mate 7, Vibe Z2 Pro) and in the case of the latter two, significantly so.
I could even live with this thickness if it packed a huge battery, but it does not. All 3 of those contemporaries have batteries that are at least 25% larger. People are quick to point out that the Nexus 6 has the same capacity as the Note 4. Well, this same battery is powering a .3" larger screen in the Nexus 6, and unlike the Note 4, is non-removable.
I am a huge lover of Nexus devices. I love everything about the stock Android, developer friendly devices. But I will very likely not be getting this new Nexus, after owning every iteration beginning with the Galaxy Nexus.
the note also has to power the wacom digitizer, and is a lot more software heavy which will put extra strain on the battery
Too Big !!! to handle ...
Screen size should really not exceed more the 5". 5" is good enough for a smart fone
It's going to be big, but I will get used to it. I just can't pass up a Nexus phone with those specs.
*edit
Pretty neat tool to compare its size.
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Google-Nexus-6,Apple-iPhone-6-Plus/phones/8626,8908
With the case I have on my Nexus 5, its not that much bigger. I may have to go caseless tho.
Specs to add:
Wireless Charging + Turbo Charging
F2.0 Camera
10.1mm thickness with a curved back. It's razor thin on the sides.
Compared to the iPhone6+, Iphone6, and MotoX (2013).
Honestly, I am hyped and I cannot wait to upgrade from my N4 to this!
Love Back Camera Style
Nexus 6 is good in features. It has large screen, latest Android and all other stuff but the thing that I liked the most is camera representation.
Like apple , Nexus should go with a logo.
Sorry as much as I like nexus based phones I will not buy any phone without an SD
card slot.
Love the phone, but my first impression after a week is that it was built upside down.
The heavier, thicker part feels better in the palm of my hand, rather than at the top where the device ends up feeling top-heavy.

I got the idea to check the lcd_density in Lollipop..
Google set this value to 560 dpi for the Nexus 6.
I do not understand that, because the native dpi of the N6-display is 493.
Changed the density from 560 to 493.
Result: better screen, smaller icons. Room for 5 columns instead of 4.
(Now looking for an idea to change the white background to black and characters to white).
Just Love It
Im coming from a nexus 5 - OPO...... After using it for more than a month,
I really love the screen and its size, Actually the smaller bezel on the bottom makes sense to me. when the nav bar is visible it looks as if the bezels are completely balanced. I like the design and the curves but after seeing some phones with damaged plastic backs Im very concerned about it now. I dont see my self selling this until the next nexus. Sorry about my english.
what i can say is without a doubt ill never go back to another type of phone. i cant believe i waited to long to find this out. how you can flash away without the risk of bricking, and the phone complaining about the software being changed. incredible
Front facing speakers are now a must have feature for me, absolutely love them!
i like
Like it, new system for me

TBH I wish it has the Snapdragon 810 with ARMv8-A (64-bit architecture) as it has a lot of new features and performance/battery improvements over the older ARMv7 (32-bit architecture). Other than that im super happy! I guess something to look forward to for the next Nexus, 64 BIT PROCESSING!!!
BUT THAT CHARGING THO!! 0-50% in like 15-20mins!!
Click to collapse
Wasn't the concern about the Snap 810 was overheating?
Either way the phone goes beast mode through anything.
Charging is definitely where its at though!
big feel heavy IN hand, screen wide enough for me
