AmazeGPS on NexusOne - Nexus One General

Any one else try to use the AmazeGPS app on their Nexus One?
My Thoughts:
I installed and imediately lost the slide to unlock feature (was replaced with the pattern unlock that had not been set up so I only had to hit one button?). When the app ran It went full screen and hid the status bar at the top of the screen (no big deal) When I switched to another app (look at email or change music) I had to hit the home button then do whatever and hit the icon to AmazeGPS which restored back to where it was. Also the menus were not set up to work with the standard UI controls of the device. The menu for settings was not set to the standard button. If the slide to unlock had stayed I would continue to use the app since it does give a better driving view than Google Maps (3d and heads up while driving not while using Navigation mode).
Are there any other GPS/Navigation apps that compare (free with 3D view)?
thanks,
marka
(yes a bit of a ramble).

Using track ball to wake phone screen?

Would it be hard to program the trackball to wake to the lock screen rather than having to hit the top button. I find it very annoying and it would be so much better for one handed use.
(this thing is slippery!)
It bugs me a bit too. When I had an iPhone I almost always use the home button to bring the unlock screen up. Also my nexus one is a bit slippery too I want a case.
I would be more interested in using volume keys to play/pause/forward/rewind the music payer without waking up the phone. This was one of the applications in iPhone.

If you're playing music, the volume keys are still able to adjust the media volume while music is playing and the phone is locked (and the screen doesn't turn on while doing it either). I prefer that behavior actually.
That's the one thing that always bugged me about the Droid, and what do you know... the N1 has the same problem, lol. Anyway, there has been a lot of discussion about this (including here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613678&highlight=trackball). There's a thread in development as well about maybe mapping that function to the trackball... who knows.
CLOCK APP
I just realized if you open the clock application, and let the phone go to sleep, then you can "Turn it on" with the trackball or volume rocker.
Now if there was a way to have the phone set to "Sleep = Clock" we'd be golden; the clock screen doen't look that bad, either.
Lots of great thoughts here. Bump.
I hated this as well!
I found a solution! (sort of).
"Lock bot Free" from the android market is what i use now.
It enables you to pick differnt lock screens ( i like the hero one since u just scroll downwards to unlock) and it allows for u to press the trackball to wake up.
I have found that it is kind of buggy still. If i reboot the phone, I end up with two lockscreens. The regular nexus 1 one and then my hero one. So i had to reinstall it for it to work properly.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with that app. I just found it on my search to make my N1 less annoying.

I was about to come post this same thing, although I'm experiencing a weird glitch too, but I actually like it. For some reason I don't get a lock screen at all after my phone locks. I hit the trackball/volume keys/power button and it just goes straight to whatever screen I was at when it locked. Pretty sweet actually.

This is Very good, if it was working
it randomly locks or not the screen which is Unaxeptable in my pocket
I tried the alpha3 of myLock. It... sort of worked, except that every time I unlocked/woke the screen, the app itself would toggle itself off. No idea why; it's not like I even have a task killer anymore.
Lock 2.0 from the market works well.

does that allow you to have a regular or hero lockscreen?
ALl i saw on the screenshots were Iphone lockscreen ripoffs.
And if i wanted an iphone i would've gotten one. Why you'd want to make your N1 look like an iphone I can never figure out.
Trying Lock 2.0 free, so far it works pretty good. I can't change my lockscreen pic and I don't like how it goes to the lockscreen when touch home...

What I don't like about Lock 2.0:
1) If you wake up your phone by accident (and don't unlock the phone) it doesn't go back to sleep after a few seconds of inactivity,
2) it doesn't show your notification bar so you don't know whether you got a new email or text message or other notification.

Have you even looked in the settings? Please examine the app more closely.
Using Lockbot free now. Does what I wanted perfectly (press any hard button to wake up), plus lets me use the Eclair lockscreen which I've always found more aesthetically pleasing.
Installed Lockbot Free, and it does exactly what I want with the trackball, but I can not work out why sometimes it gives me the Eclair screen which I like, and sometimes it chooses a different screen?
Kev
You have to uncheck the stars (I can't remember specifically) next to the unlock screens you do not want to show up. I never liked LockBot, it isn't a precise copy of the real lock screen(s), if I'm going to use a imitation I rather it look complete..
Open up the app, press "My theme." It'll give you a "playlist" of different lock screens. I simply un-star all the ones I don't want and stick with Eclair after changing the background. The clock's font is a bit off, but I will cope.

Wallpaper problem

The problem is that my wallpaper wont scroll anymore, when i try to change my wallpaper, it comes to the cropping tool as always but it will only crop it vertical (so it fills one home screen) so when i roll to next home screen it has the exactly same picture
thats also not the wierdest thing of all, if i put one of the wallpapers that came with the phone (those wavy things with colors) they work just fine as they should, anyone got ideas how to fix this?
I have the same thing when using the Open Home screenreplacement. It works fine on the default homescreen though. Are you using an homescreen replacement?
im using pandahome, i dont know how to get back the default homescreen, not that i want to, also the wallpaper used to work just fine with pandahome then it went like this, it sucks that the default home has only 3 screens, also its not so rich as pandahome..
If you want to return to the default home, try Settings -> Applications -> Manage Apps, then find your current home app (pandahome) and tap Clear defaults.
You can clear default for other apps in the same manner.
I had the same problem. Did as above.
Go to settings->Application->Manage application
There i tapped "clear defaults" for in my case Panda Home.
When i taped the home button on the phone i choosed the regular "home" instead of "Panda home". Now i changed my background. After this i tapped the home button again and chose "Panda home" and as default. Now wallpaper works just fine again.
/J
I also had the exact same problem and was using panda home...the simple solution is just to hit the home button, choose default home then go back to whatever home launcher ur using
I switched to adw btw which is great

[Q] Disable Home Button for toddler app?

I've developed and app that is a slide show of pictures which each play a sound when you tap them. It's like a picture book for ages 2-4.
The problem is, since android won't let you capture a home button press and essentially disable it, when parents give the phone to their child to play with unattended (brave parent), the child can inadvertenly exit the app and then make calls or otherwise tweak the phone.
There are two other apps that currently have a psuedo fix for this issue. The apps are Toddler Lock and ToddlePhone. I've tried contacting the developers of these apps for some guidance but they haven't been willing to disclose anything, which if fine, but does anyone here have any suggestions?
It looks like both of those other apps are acting like a home screen replacement app. When you enable the "childproof mode" on those apps the user is prompted to chose and app for the action and the choices are "Launcher, LauncherPro, etc." plus the toddler app. You then have to make the toddler app the default and voila, the phone is "locked" and can only be "unlocked" using a key combination or touching the four corners of the screen, etc. when you "unlock" the phone. your normal home screen app default restored. You don't even have to make the toddler app the default the next time you enable the "childproof mode".
I have read that these two apps have problems with Samsung phones and they can cause an an infinite crash-and-restart-loop that requires a factory reset to fix. Obviously this is not the ideal solution to the problem but it looks like the only one availiable at this point.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to implement a "childproof mode"?
Could it run on top of the lock screen
So Do you mean making the app a lock screen replacement? I suppose that could work.
Do you have a suggestion on how to accomplish that?

Things you don't know about your HTC one

Just thought I would start a thread that could be useful about things you didn't know about your HTC one
I only found out tonight that if you swipe down your notification bar with 2 fingers it takes you straight to the shortcut tabs
That made me realise there are probably loads of features and gestures I don't know about?
Here is a list compiled from the thread...
1 : Swipe down with 2 fingers on notification bar takes you straight to shortcuts (Android 4.2 version only)
2 : If you scroll with 2 fingers in contacts, gallery, music, and many other apps, it scrolls much faster (using it in the contacts list goes through the alphabet, using it in the text converstaion list goes through dates of conversations)
3 : You can pinch zoom text-messages
4 : Double tap your Bluetooth button with camera active to remotely take a snap
5 : In camera, from the top swipe down and it'll switch from back to front camera and viceversa
6 : Tapping on the statusbar while in the app drawer or blinkfeed, music, people, and message app brings you straight up
7 : You don't have to pull up the lock or the time on the lock screen - swipe up anywhere to unlock your phone. Same goes for answering a call
8 : You can increase the volume on your tv via the volume rocker on your phone instead of the on screen buttons
9 : Quickly double tapping the home button brings up the recent apps list
10 : Three finger swipe from left to right on the homescreen brings you to share files menu
11 : You can adjust the brightness of the torch/flashlight with the volume rocker
12 : Hold down the power button and tap the home key to take a screenshot
13 : Holding the back button in the browser brings you to history
14 : In the photo gallery's edit>effects screen (under the magic wand icon), you can customise every preset by tapping and holding its thumbnail and dragging it to the "customise" bar that appears on the right. You can even start applying custom effects from scratch by doing this with the "no effects" thumbnail. You can then save the created preset
Also on that screen, pressing the 'A' button provides options go change the white balance of the picture (as you would normally pre-select in the camera app). A = 'as shot' but you can change it to cloudy, fluorescent, etc and also a couple of options the camera app doesn't have - shady and tungsten.
15 : If you have the camera app open and turn off the phone, the lockscreen will be inactive, meaning when you press the power button again you go straight back to the camera app, no need to unlock
16 : Select "Show Magnifier" in the Accessibility menu and you get a magnifying lens that pops up when you are editing text
17 : Long press home for google now (depending on setup sometimes home and up also takes you to google now)
18 : In Google play if you are listening to a song and have the album artwork up (the screen where you have your pause/play, next/previous track)
You can swipe right to left to skip the track it left to right to go to the previous track. There's a cool sliding in/out animation too.
The coolest feature though, is that you don't have to press back to get back to your library or playlist. You can swipe down from the songbtitle and your library of songs is waiting behind it.
19 : In the Stock Browser go to Menu>Settings>Labs to switch on "Quick Controls". Slide thumb from left or right edge to open quick controls and hide app and URL bars.
Also swipe across the keyboard to easily switch to the numbers and symbols pages!
20 : You can access HTC's hidden Self diagnostic tool by following steps:
Go to dialer,
Dial *#*#3424#*#*
You will enter HTC's self diagnostic tool
You can check if all the parts and sensors on your device is working.
21 : If you're watching tv and have the tv remote enabled and you're getting a call it automatically mutes the tv.
22 : There's a visualizer and karaoke player embedded in the HTC music app. Just click the musical note icon when playing a popular song that's on Gracenote. The app will automatically download lyrics and sync them to the song.
By default, this only works on Wi-Fi. This can be changed in Music settings.
23 : You can also set a different wallpaper for the lockscreen than for the homescreen by going to settings -> personalize -> lockscreen and then settings for the wallpaper lockscreen.
24 : Rotating your calculator to landscape provides scientific functions like sin cos and tan.
25 : if you leave the TV app open to your remote and you lock your phone...it unlocks right back Into the TV remote. I've also noticed it just turning itself on when I pick it up!
26 : There's a cool trick in the camera app.
If you touch to focus, and hold your finger there for about a second, it will activate Focus and Exposure lock, until you tap on another spot, which will turn it off again. It's a handy feature, especially when you want to recompose. (android 4.2 version only)

Not trying to rain on your parade but that is a Android feature introduced in 4.2.
You should go to settings and then display and you can now set the home key as the menu button when long pressing.
In the HTC keyboard settings, you can enable Swype and in advanced you can even set the swype colour.
Another one, if you scroll with 2 fingers in gallery, music, and many other apps, it scrolls much faster
Pretty known one.. In the browser menu, you can enable flash player
There are lots of fun features with zoe's after you've made them (comparable to GS4) like sequence shot, removing objects, and waaay more

Also one more thing many have not realized yet. There is no file limit size when transferring files to the phone. No more FAT32 4GB file restrictions. That's the benefit of having ONLY MTP, but you lose out on faster transfers and universal USB Mass Storage support. You can fit a 20GB movie in if you want and if you have the space.

Didn't know that two finger pulldown.
On CM it's pulldown from the clock, I couldn't figure out how to do it with Sense.
This is great!

the two finger pulldown is an AOSP 4.2 built in feature, the CM implementation is an option to swipe from left or right edge, AOKP has it as well, this can be disabled and the 2 swipe feature functions as normal.

Now I know. Having used CM10.1 almost exclusively for the last year and change, I sort of forgot that it wasn't exactly the same as AOSP.
To add to this thread: I bet a lot of people don't know that USB Audio out is built in and switches on-demand. I can finally use my phone with my Fiio E7!

Maybe it should be posted here the aroma freeze fix:
I know some people have problems shutting down their phone when this happens
If aroma installer freezes on you do the following:
1. Hold device's light sensor up to a bright light source (any lamp will do)
2. Hold power button down until buttons on bottom begin to blink, keep holding and phone will turn off!

Samsung Galaxy A5(2014) navigation bar that works with all apps?

Hi all, this is the Korean Olleh version of A5(2014) SM-A500K - Original english android 6.0.1
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a5-6761.php
This is my GF's phone and she don't want to change it to something else(believe me I tried), the Home button has not worked for long time. The screen broke and we got a replacement, but after the repair the Recent button also don't work, Back button works.
She doesn't want it opened again(not easy on this model, often the screen breaks again) so I have been looking for an Navigation/Gesture app that could work in the background without problems.
I tried Softkeys and Navigation Gestures from Play store but almost all Pre-installed Apps on the phone complain about "Overlay detected" and then says I need to grant permission to the app complaining, but trying that doesn't work because it wants the Overlay to be switched OFF first - switching OFF the overlay(Softkeys or Navigation Gestures) doesn't do it though, only uninstalling them do. Then Granting the Permissons an re-installing Softkeys or Navigation Gestures.
I have tried to give the 2 navigation apps(Softkeys and Navigation Gestures) all the permissions they need, but it didn't help much. As soon as the other Apps get updated, we are back to square one "Overlay Detected".
So I'm asking here if any of you can help getting some navigation buttons working. No need for something fancy, just Recent + Home + Back, that sits in the bottom of the screen and moves App screen up so it don't interfer with the App's own buttons(like browser buttons, typing on keyboard, etc.).
Thank you in advance
Jan
