So I followed the steps outlined here to unlock bootloader:
hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Nexus_One_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
The bootloader unlocked fine. I went in and enabled USB debugging. I then flashed the RA Recovery image in bootloader mode, but the wiki never outlined that I required root access with Modaco's Superboot, so I skipped this step.
I booted into recovery mode, Nandroid backup, wipe, then flash CyanogenMOD and Google Apps.
Now I am stuck at the X screen with the unlocked symbol below it.
Can anyone help?
If you flashed CM 5.0.5.1, this is a common issue...
the temp fix: Wipe, Flash CM 5.0.5, Flash 5.0.5.1, Flash GApps
I will try this. Thank you for the quick reply. And yes, it was 5.0.5.1
Another possible solution that might be easier:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?/topic/927-possibly-solved-failed-flashing-5051/
(read the entire thread, I'm referring to the UID fix mentioned therein)
It might spare you from installing an older version of CM before updating to 5.0.5.1.
The UID fix did not work. Thanks for pointing me to that direction anyways Unquestionable.
Flashing to 5.0.5 then 5.0.5.1 worked just fine. Everything is working great, thanks!

Hi all,
I got a brand new Wileyfox Storm which I liked to have rooted. When I booted the phone I got several updates which I installed first.
After updating I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wileyfox-storm/general/root-wileyfox-storm-t3250992
And also with a little bit help from the Cyanogen wiki: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_kipper
Reason I chose for this method is because I tried the recommended WinDroid Toolkit before but the server doesn't has the required files anymore so that program is useless for the Wileyfox Storm.
I'm running Cyanogen Os version 13.1.2-ZNH2KAS3NA-kipper btw (offical FOTA).
When I followed Bobslesbricoleurs tutorial to unlock the bootloader I got a message but not one I expected. It said:
<bootloader> Device already : unlocked !
OKAY [ 0.000s]
finished. total time : 0.000s
Does this mean I got my Wileyfox Storm with bootloader already unlocked? That how I read it...
I continued to start rooting it, but not before testing if I could still boot but everything was fine.
I tried to flash the attached custom recovery I got OK and a 'remote: size too large' error. It didn't successful flashed the recovery.
I checked if everything still was ok and it was. I could boot and everything.
So I tried something different. I'm not new to flashing (I've had a Galaxy S2 for 5 years which was running on CM13) so I went to the Cyanogen site and downloaded the latest stable (snapshot) recovery for kipper which was cm-13.0-20160820-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0J4-kipper-recovery.img.
I tried to flash that recovery and it succeeded. I could still boot recovery and system... except that after booting system the ROM would replace the recovery back to stock.
I did some research on this but I couldn't find any helpful information about it for the Storm device. So I Googled it in general and read somewhere that COS had a developers toggle to disable 'updating recovery'.
This is probably where I made my mistake because I unchecked that update recovery toggle and reflashed the snapshot recovery that worked before.
I'm not very sure, I should have written this down, but if I remember correctly the system could still boot.
I didn't know how to flash the SuperSu-v2.46_signed.zip with fastboot, the tutorial didn't specify this and I'm used to flashing from recovery (fastboot is kinda new to me, although I have worked with adb commands before).
So I booted the rom, installed AirDroid to push the zip to my internal storage and I went back to the recovery.
I flashed the SuperSu-v2.46_signed.zip with the update option in the recovery.
And now the rom is in a boot loop.
I already tried a full factory reset but it's still boot looping.
I know that in the tutorial topic FluffyTwit has had a similar problem, not sure if it's the same but it looks like it.
The given solution is "Flash stock boot.img from stock rom zip, reboot" to which he replied " flashed the whole .zip file because I saw a tutorial on some website...".
But at this stage I'm a bit afraid that I'll do it wrong again, as the instructions are either out-dated or they're just not 100% correct. Could someone help me out and/or confirm the exact steps I should do to get my device back up and running?
I'd rather keep the device stock without root than rooting it with risks of bricking. I have a feeling this device isn't as safe to rooting as I'm used to..
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I've found my solution and had to change something.
You can read it here starting from Edit 2.

Hey guys, first of all sorry about my english, im french.
So my problem is: I tried rooting my Axon 7 A2017U many times, with different guides. I always end up with a softbricked phone, having to restore to stock using MiFlash.
My bootloader is unlocked, i have stock recovery and stock rom for now.
Whenever i flash TWRP, either the signed one (from @tenfar) or unsigned (and up to date) ones, i can't go past the menu saying something like "your phone cant be checked for corruption, please lock your phone [...]" it just freeze. i did read somewhere that i should flash chainfire's root or a special .zip that, i guess, disabled some check that could prevent booting a phone with unsigned stuff/edited system (after flashing TWRP, so it could boot) that didn't work out. i think i found that information in some LineageOS thread here on XDA.
My ultimate goal would be to get a rooted stock nougat 7.1.1, up to date TWRP recovery and to be able to switch to LineageOS to try it out soon.
For what it is worth, i rooted many phones over the years, so while i'm no expert, i should be able to follow most of the steps you give me.
Thanks alot!
What version of TWRP did you flash first?
I have the same root problem i can not install in twrp install in twrp ok but su application displays no root cause i have latest twrp

Okay. Download and flash this one alone via fastboot and see what happens. This is one the I personally use. It is required for any of the newer versions to work properly.
twrp-3.0.2-2-a2017u.img
You can choose to rename it to just recovery.img, then:
1. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
or
2.
if you choose to work with the same filename:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-2-a2017u.img
Select reboot to recovery from the bootloader menu now and try again.
Either way, should work fine. I know you mentioned you knew the basics, but just want to be sure.
Also forgot to mention. If TWRP works but you still can't get your phone to boot, you need to follow this guide here
You can start from the part that says:
-----------------------------------------------------
UPDATING FROM B20_Boot / B20 / B27 / B29 / B15(N)
-----------------------------------------------------
Again, that's the ROM I personally use if I want to go back to stock, not the one from the ZTE site.
Gonna try it and give feedback. thanks for taking time to help!
edit: im downloading the rom from the link you shared.
like you said, i can get TWRP to boot but not the phone.
So if i use full stock from ZTE, it can't boot with modified recovery?
edit 2: i don't know what worked, i think it might be the bootstack. or the rom by DrakenFX. now i can boot to the rom with a TWRP recovery installed. It worked, but i soft bricked again trying to flash SuperSU. So now i'm retrying with an updated TWRP.
I haven't tried that yet, but I really suspect that's the reason you're having problems. I rarely use pure stock ROMs. Like you, I'm not an expert in Android Development so I can't tell you why. Just been a flashaholic for years so made a few observations.
Which supersu are you installing? If you're swiping to the right in twrp, you need to install the dm-verity zip or supersu 2.79. There's some issues with newer builds.
Everything is working like a charm! Now im going to finally give lineageOS a try
I used Chainfire's SuperSU 2.79 stable.
Edit : Everything is working flawlessly! I'm running the lastest LineageOS nightly with root (Chainfire's 2.79). Followed their instruction and installation was smooth as butter. I should also point out i flashed the lastest official TWRP which seems more stable than the one @KwesiJnr suggested. The one he suggested was giving me some "can't read X partition" in red text everywhere in the log section, which the official one doesn't do. It was doing his job properly anyway though.
I can't thank @KwesiJnr enough, it helped me find the single mistake i was making.

Yeah, like I mentioned before that was the base TWRP you needed to flash first, before any of the newer ones. You weren't intended to use it indefinitely.
There's a lot of Dev love for our device now and support is growing ... exciting new ROMs cropping up. Don't hesitate to try them out.
[CONFIRMED] Confirm my Oreo to Marshmallow to 6.01 Resurrection Remix plan & commands
Hey folks,
I'm buying a Nexus 6P 128GB running OREO this afternoon. I'm a 6P newbie.
Am in a rush as I'm driving out to Dallas tonight and need it for the trip.
My Pixel XL's GPS died.
This is a last minute/rush thing, so I haven't had time to research.
0) Unlock bootloader if not already done
1) Do a factory wipe from Security settings
2) Reboot to Bootloader.
3) flashall.bat the 6.01 factory image (angler-mtc20l-factory-b7864fdb)
4) Log into phone and then reboot to bootloader.
5) fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-angler.img
6) Reboot to recovery
7) Wipe cache/dalvik/data
8) Install rom.zip (ResurrectionRemix-M-v5.7.4-20161008-angler.zip)
9) Flash GAPPs.
10) Boot to ROM and log in.
Yes, I did read the ROM thread directions (copied below).
But since I'm new to 6P, I wanted to make sure there is nothing funky I'm not aware of or missing. Thanks!

All this is assuming your phone is rooted already. Flashing everything manually rarely works properly for me since my computer doesn't always detect it for some reason.
I use skipsoft tool kit which works for noobs and more advanced users
If it is rooted, letting the factory image run from start to finish will reset recovery and might unroot your phone.
you could manually install the parts and skip recovery so it doesnt have to be reinstalled. however you wouldn't be here if you knew how.
I'd tell you the order but I dont have a factory image to open and see the flashall bat instructions.
To find out the order. Right Click flashall.bat > edit. From here it will tell you the order it is going to flash everything. If you can follow it. flash everything except recovery, as this will allow you to boot into recovery after the install is complete. My only warning for this is that this method has worked moving up the update chain. so 6.0 to 7.0 etc. I havent tried it downgrading, let alone you are going from 8.0 to 6.0 so dont take my word for it being successful. If it does load follow the rest of the steps below. If it doesn't boot to recovery, you'll have to find one the works for 6.0 or reinstall twrp
wipe,
load custon rom,
gapps
boot. (confirm you can boot to initial install screen)
Then add kernal
If not.
Install factory
Root phone,
load recovery,
wipe,
load custon rom,
gapps
boot. (confirm you can boot to initial install screen)
Then add kernal
Okay, all done.
The steps I listed in my OP worked perfectly.
I just had to add "recovery" to my command "fastboot flash twrp.....".
So that it reads "fastboot flash recovery twrp...."
I knew this, I just forgot it for a minute.
But there was no weirdness. Pretty straightforward. :good:
I'm now on RR 6.01 and gonna start looking for my favorite Exposed modules that aren't available on Nougat yet (or ever).
Thanks for trying to help, StarRavier.
Hey guys, I wanted some help on flashing LineageOS 14.1 to my Axon 7 A2017G.
I've looked at a bunch of guides but they all seem outdated or way too confusing.
I tried to follow the guide under the "Axon 7 Toolkit " thread where there were some instructions on how to flash a rom for noobs and when going to test for fastboot, it says I don't have fastboot.
Tried to get fastboot by following some guide and using miflash but ended up doing something to my device where android asked for a password when i booted up, where as I didn't have a password and had to end up factory resetting my device. LOST ALL MY DATA
If someone could please give me a simple, easy to follow guide on how to unlock bootloader, and flash custom rom, I would be immensely grateful.
Also if there is a guide on how to restore back to stock rom and factory settings in case I need to send phone back to ZTE at any point that would also be helpful.
:good:
The toolkit guide is probably the easiest one.
Read the whole thread and try again.

LOSING ALL YOUR DATA will be something normal actually. If you want to go to LineageOS you will probably lose it a bunch of times...
Well it turns out the toolkit is not the easiest way. Do this:
You didn't seem to search. Use "Unlock bootloader easily" by WesTD. After that simply go to the LOS thread, and download the ROM, the Universal Bootloader, and the modem file for your phone (for the G). Get Magisk too. and GApps for arm64. ) Then enter TWRP, ensure that it's 3.2.1-0 or more, else update it (get the newer .img for ailsa_ii or axon7 and Install - Install image - Recovery partition). Format data, and make sure that it formatted with ext4 (it'll say -formatting with make-ext4fs or sth). flash the bootloader, then the modem, then ROM, then Magisk, then GApps. After that boot.

Or try this tool to unlock your bootloader....way more advanced by the way thnx @djkuz
Just install the axon 7 drivers, this tool and....UNLOCK with ease :good:
Also all files to revert back to stock, flashing modem, recovery... etc are well discribed there. Just take a peek there...
Just another advice : do read all threads carefully, no matter what you're doing, do backup regularly and all will be OK :good:

Followed your steps and managed to unlock the bootloader successfully. Afterwards I tried to flash TWRP using the Axon Toolkit and this error appears. Have 0 clue why. A little help please.
View attached >>>
EDIT: nevermind, tried to boot into recovery and twrp booted, not sure why the error appeared though. thanks for the help!
So i've exhausted almost every xda thread I can find, and finally decided to make a post myself. This is maybe the 6th or 7th time I've had to MSM tool my phone because I softbricked and could only access bootloader. I'm a newbie so you may need to go in detail in what I should do. All help is very appreciated.
I'm trying to flash a new ROM to my phone, the one in question is the latest nightly build of LineageOS: lineage-17.1-20200806-nightly-fajita-signed.zip, the ROM itself works fine, however, flashing TWRP after flashing this rom (even if I wipe dalvik/cache) I no longer am able to access wifi). I've flashed stock and started over about 5-6 times (from the very very beginning, including unlocking the bootloader) and I'll always end up with a wifi issue or a bootloop.
I've tried multiple different versions of twrp, including the unofficial 3.3.1-32 Q unofficial builds from this guide and both 3.4.0-0 and 3.4.0-1 from the official website, both leading me to the same results. (the unofficial build wouldn't decrypt, so I failed with that one).
I'll go through the steps I do in detail, and if anyone sees an issue with my process, please correct me.
1- enabled developer options
2- enabled usb debugging and oem unlocking in developer options
3- booted into bootloader with
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
4- checked to see if phone is connected and unlocked the bootloader with
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
5- set up my phone again, enabled dev options, and enabled usb debugging again.
6- booted into bootloader again
7- typed this into the terminal to temporarily boot TWRP
Code:
fastboot boot <recovery_twrp>.img
7.5- flash copy-partitions.zip from the LineageOS install guide
8- went to advanced>adb sideload>swiped then went on adb terminal to sideload TWRP installer
Code:
adb sideload <twrp-installer>.zip
9- went to menu>reboot>recovery
10- after rebooting went to wipe>factory reset slide>swiped slider
11- went back to menu>advanced>adb sideload>swiped then went on adb terminal to sideload (while checking wipe cache/dalvik)
Code:
adb sideload <lineageOS-rom-nightly>.zip
12- tapped reboot system
this is where things begin to go wrong:
- i notice that I can't boot into lineageOS, lineageOS claims android data is corrupted and needs to factory reset
- factory reset phone
- boots up fine, go through set up process (wifi works right now, only problem I notice is that within build settings, it shows a completely different phone number on my SIM card rather than the phone number I actually have, but it doesn't look broken or corrupted), enable usb debugging again, boot into bootloader
- type
Code:
fastboot boot <recovery-twrp>.img
- twrp loads up fine
- go to menu>advanced>adb sideload>swipe to begin sideload then type
Code:
adb sideload <twrp_installer>.zip
- reboot system
- boot process takes forever, (restarts 3-4 times) phone feels sluggish, and wifi will no longer work (data works fine)
- i give up and I MSM tool my phone.
I genuinely think this is because of TWRP, I read through a few xda threads claiming that the official 3.4.x builds had many issues, and therefore would reccomend using 3.3.x builds. I tried both from the official website and the unofficial TWRP by mauronofrio, where i get decryption problems on both of them. only 3.4.0-x TWRP builds would get me as far as flashing the rom. I've tried this process on both android 10.3.0 and 10.3.5
I genuinely would like some help. this phone is my daily driver and not being able to use TWRP (let alone properly flash a ROM) is a big problem that destroys what I loved about my phone in the first place. Thanks in advance.
I'm assuming this is not a TMobile 6T. With that assumption.
Try my LOS install guide. Note I couldn't get the 10.3.5. fastboot ROM to work. However if you are already on 10.3.5 stock, you are fine, just go with it. I updated manually to 10.3.5 using TWRP, and then used the latest weekly build and everything has been fine. Just go straight to the TWRP step. Other wise use the 10.3.4 fastboot rom. Cliff notes version in the second post.

this worked!! thank you so much for such a great guide!
I did one thing differently though, instead of using the fastboot rom or running it through scripts, I used the copy-partitions.zip file available on LineageOS' fajita install guide to make both partitions appear the same. I realized my mistake when I didn't flash the rom twice, as that's mandatory when it comes to A/B partitioned phones
Everything works smoothly! thanks!
