Googled for a little while but couldn't find anything.
I would like to use the official 2.1 home app.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance
this is how it worked in 1.5, not sure if it does in 2.1 as i don't use it yet.
in 1.5 you could go to settings->applications and in the list of installed applications there also was "HTC Sense". if you looked at the details you could see that it was the default app for some actions and there was a button "delete default settings" or something like that. after that, when you hit the home button, you would get a question dialog asking if you want to use Launcher or HTC Sense for that action. you could also select to always use this setting there.
an alternative (also only tested by me in 1.5) could be the app "home switcher" that shows you all home apps installed and lets you select
hope that is helpful
I know, but this doesn't work anymore. I got used to sense now, but I'm getting really annoyed right now! It's just too SLOW
Using adw now quite pleased with that
can you share how you disabled Sense? i don't want to uninstall it completely
ok, i guess the htc didn't want users to switch to the default interface.
however, I attached the Launcher.apk from the emulator running 2.1, maybe it is possible to install it on hero as well.
hope it works!
Hello all!
I've messed with Android a bit on my old Touch Pro 2, but I am definitely new to configuring it. What I want to do is set Google Voice as my default messaging program (so I can have everything going through it).
I tried doing it with the stock launcher (TouchWiz) and I also installed Launcher Pro to no avail.
I figure the setting should be in:
Settings
-Applications
--Manage Applications
---Show all
----Messaging
-----Clear Default
Unfortunately the Clear Default button is grayed out so I am unable to actually do anything there.
Anyone know how to do this or have any ideas?
(Yes I will be rooting/custom rom installing soon!)
Thanks!
Edit: I do have Google Voice installed and it works fine for voice calling.

When I click message button in contacts, it asks whether I want to use 1) messaging or 2) google voice. I can also choose one as the default from there.
I haven't pull the trigger to make google voice as my default message app yet.
After updating to 4.2 I went to check out the new gesture typing feature.
Unfortunately, when I went to a text box to try it out, nothing happened.
I've checked to make sure that it is enabled in the settings. I've also cleared the keyboard data & cache.
Anyone else have this problem?
bump
Just realised, if I create another user account on the tablet. Gesture typing works on that account.
However, I still cant get it to work on the main 'owner' account.
Has no-one else had this problem when they updated?

Okay, I am going to start from the beginning, if you have done any of this already, sorry for repeating it.
First, you need to have the setting enabled so go to Settings - Language & Input - Android keyboard settings icon.
Under there under Gesture typing, check enable gesture typing.
In whatever program you want to use gesture typing, bring up the keyboard like normal, go to the notification window.
Select choose input method and switch it to android keyboard (if it isn't already default).
It should switch keyboards (again if android keyboard wasn't already default), now you can have fun playing with the new keyboard.
I think it only works if your language is US English. Might be wrong though.

it's working for me, italian system language
In the keyboard setting add the correct additional dictionary for your language. In my case the Swedish and it works.

Might be a stupid question, but where do you find the Swedish add-on dictionary? The only Nordic dictionary I've got access to, is the Norwegian and I need the Danish.
Edit: Never mind, it appeared after a refresh of the list.
Just found a solution.
If you change the language, and then change it back, it works.
Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

I got this problem, on English gesture typing works, but on Dutch (my native language) it doesnt work.. all settings enabled, tried to diable English, than still no gesture on Dutch..
Any ideas?
Sv: Gesture Typing Not Working
At first only US English works, but all languages on a second account, but after a while it works for other languages.
Maybe it needs some kind of dictionary first, to work.
Otherwise try Kii Keyboard, it has gesture input and is really customizable. (Looks like stock)
actually it's not working in my galaxy nexus too and i can't uderstand how to solve the problem

Im having the same problem on my nexus 4 no matter what rom I try, though the one from play store works. I use the keyboard in cm due to extra functions. Tried with fresh wipe and install no gapps installed and after gapps
enable gesture typing not working

Toro here, an updated flash of gapps did the trick after all else failed for me. Apparently, the added feature of the gesture typing belongs to Google. Not sure if this helps, I lost the gesture after I flashed to 4.3.
No gesture here

In deed! I think it's belong to Google! I updated to 4.3 and Gesture Typing is not working...
me too! I just updated to CM10.2 and gesture typing doesn't work even if I change ENG/ITA languages...
gesture typing in some language not working
First of all you need the google keyboard. In my case I had english as the main language of the os, but wanted to use dutch, german and french as well. I found that Dutch didn't have gesture typing.
If you have that and you find your language is not gesture enabled and you're sure you've set it correctly (see previous posts). Change the system language to the language you need and wait a bit (you should have an internet connection). Some additional stuff will be downloaded. Then try if gesture typing in that language is working. If so, problem solved! set system back to original language and gesture typing should still work in the other language.
I had this same issue after flashing a custom Lollipop ROM onto my device and couldn't get gesture typing to work no matter what I tried, until I found a solution that worked for me:
My ROM came with a keyboard called "Android Keyboard (AOSP)" which looks exactly like the Google keyboard and has all the same settings for gesture typing etc. except that gesture typing didn't work. When I installed the actual "Google Keyboard" app from Google Play and set that as my default keyboard, gesture typing started working!
So if you can't get it to work, make sure you have the real Google Keyboard app from Google Play installed, there seems to be a difference between that and the one that ships with the ROM.
almost the same problem here!
Hi, a few days ago I´ve revert from CM12 to CM11, I formated /system /data /everything! And gesture typing not worked anymore (before upgrading to CM12 it was working on CM11 M12). No matter what language I select gesture typing does not work.
Then get back to Stock, full stock! Then I rooted, blah blah, and installed CM again. And NOTHING!
Any idea?

Thanks a lot! You solved it for me! In my case I installed a Cyanogenmod ROM plus a Google Apps package from opengapps.org which is called "Pico - The bare minimum to get Google Play functionality.". Apparently the gesture "Google Keyboard" was not part of this package and thanks to you I just installed it and it works now.
Hi Guys,
I use SwiftKey -- one thing I don't like is every time the keyboard opens, a notification lands up top asking me to select my keyboard. On HTC, I would simply rename the HTC keyboard APK and that was that.
What would be the equivalent process here?
Thanks!
If you're rooted and have Titanium Backup installed, just uninstall LG Keyboard and the themes that go with it.
Not sure why it would do that? I always use SwiftKey, and never had that notification on mine. Weird.
But, as mentioned, rooting is a good way to clear the bloat. Amd is really easy too.

Are you talking about the keyboard switcher in the notification bar/shade? You should be able to disable that in settings under language/input somewhere. If it's not there, your old method will work OR un-checking all other keyboards in the same language/input menu, disabling, or uninstalling any additional keyboards.

Yes, the KB switcher in notification bar / shade. I have never been able to disable that via a setting. The LG and Google keyboards cannot be deselected (greyed out) thus leaving disabling / uninstalling as the only option.

You have to delete all other input methods except for swiftkey if you want to remove the notification.
Resolved. I rooted and renamed the LG IME to .apk.bak using ES File Manager and I disabled the Google AOSP keyboard.
On my end I just wanted to confirm that the solution with Titanium backup Pro worked.
I just had to freeze the LG keyboard and the 3 LG themes, disable Google Voice Recognition (uncheck automatic) and reboot, et voila !
1) Hey, I'm wondering if any of you was able to activate slider shortcuts on the lock screen. as soon as i set up a lock screen pin, I only got a lock to press... nothing to slide!!
2) Does swipe work on your keyboard with core apps installed? Not working for me! I didn't even have voice dictate function until i tried installing pico tts. Had to uninstall it again, but after that, the Mic was still there!

I did a dirty flash from CM10.2, and my old slider shortcuts are still there, working fine. I don't use a pin, though.
Can't help with your other question, because I deleted the stock keyboard to save space in /system. (I use Swype instead.)
about 2): strange enough, the play store doesn,t allow to install the standalone app of the android keyboard!

You mean the Google Keyboard app? That's very strange. I just tried installing it, and it works fine here.
really strange!
