set "Sounds > Keypad" to "Off" for no beeps
select "OK" to save

Does anybody know how I can disable the camera sound?
Any help would be appreciated...
Gear
OK, start the camera by pressing the cam button, click on the tools icon, bottom right, looks like a spanner and screwdriver, then click tools, then click options, then click video, just above the folder option, bottom left you will see "recording with audio", make sure this is not checked. You now have silent movies.

If you want to disable the snapshot sound, do this:
Run the camera app (press the camera button on the left side of the XDA II).
Go to the "Camera Settings" window (tap on the icon showing a screwdriver and wrench).
On the menu, select "Tools->Options...".
Tap the "General" tab.
Check the "Disable application event sounds." checkbox.
Tap on the "OK" button to close the window.
Thanks Jargon.
It seems that I had missed the "General" Tab !!!

...so simple the answers remain elusive.
How do you stop a tone being played when you press the start button or select certain items? I've searched in sounds and notifications but I can't see anything there, I have standard taps disabled.
Secondly, how do I get the phone to vibrate for an incoming call - I want it to ring as well as today I was almost caught out because I didn't hear the phone ringing. There is a vibrate option in sounds and notifications but I'm not sure exactly what this one is for.
Thanks,
John
First answer:
Go to Start -> Settings -> Sounds & Notifications
then uncheck Screen Taps. Or You have third party
program like WisBar?
answer second:
Push "Green Phone button" -> Menu -> Options...
and choose Vibrate and Ring in the Ring type window.
Screen taps are already unchecked, I don't have any third party programs at all installed. It's only certain events that trigger the noise, such as tapping the start button and then choosing settings but then tapping the tabs in that folder say, will not generate any noise.
Thanks for the vibrate answer, that's it sorted.
John
You should be able to silence the Start Menu and its items' one by disabling...
Start > Settings > Personal tab > Sounds & Notifications* > [ ] Events (warnings, system events)
If that doesn't work, try a search on this forum for "start menu sound" (no quotes), and you'll find lots of older threads on how to replace the sound with your own sound ( which, if you use a completely silent wav, is 'no' sound %) )
That did the trick, thanks muchly!

Morning All,
I've searched for this - but can't find anything.
I do quite alot of texting, and find the phone pad input with t9 predictive text best most of the time. But that awful tone it outputs on every button press is driving me mad! Does anyone know how to turn it off?
I'm guessing it must be a registry setting somewhere?
Or even better still. Anyone know of any third party phone style keyboard inputs which support predictive text, but with bigger buttons (which you can turn off tones!) which I could use instead.
I really miss being able to do easy one handed texting, and would love an easier input method....
Thanks,
Paul
On any form of input, click on the little 'up arrow' (e.g. the one which lets you choose the input methods that you wanted to use). Among the list, like "Keyboard", "Block Recognizer", there is an "Options..." at the top. Choose it.
Then, choose the keypad input method at "Input method:" and click on the "Options..." just at the bottom. Uncheck the "Turn on screen tap sound".
Actually I find that useful. Difficult to know if you have pressed the right button on a flat screen without tapping sounds.
Fantastic!
So obvious - now I feel silly for not noticing the options option
Here you go
Setting -> Menu -> All Settings -> Personal -> Phone -> Keypad: Off.
Have fun
Settings > System > Sounds - Turn key clicks off.
Choice for Screen tap sound is either 1) no sound 2) soft or 3)loud. Soft or loud is just a "tkkkk" sound. Does anyone know how to change to a more ear friendly sound ?
I guess these would be hardcoded into the rom and the phone won't allow you to change them. Look under the windows directory for all .wav files. With some luck, you might be able to find it.
screen tab sounds are pretty annoying, as everyone around you will hear that you are working on your phone... i turned every sound off.
Press the Call Button -> Number Page Come out -> Menu -> Options - > Phone Tab Page -> Keypad changed to OFF
there u goes.. no sound for tabbing of buttons..
I installed a a few input, but apart from the original input I can not use any of them when typing. I press an hold input setting, no selection of those inputs.
I did tick the box of them inputs at Setting.
something wrong here?
Which keyboard did you install?
The same to me trying to use Better Keyboard. I gave up.
Did you try selecting Better Keyboard from the 'All programs' list and selecting 'Enable Better Keyboard First'?
It won't work unless you enable it first of all. Works perfectly on my Hero.

Yep, this is the procedure I've tried to follow many times. But when I go to the input method selection dialog (the gear button left to the space in the regular keyboard), Better Keyboard isn't there.
I know I'm wrong in some way, but I don't figure out where's the catch.
The way I activate it is to open a new text message or email and in a text input field, press and hold for a few seconds. You should then get an option called 'Select Input Method'. Select it and choose Better Keyboard from the returned list.

OK, you're the man. I don't know what was the differences between what you wrote and what I readed until this evening, but I understood you and now I have Better Keyboard up and running. haha
Thanks!
