I have an O2 XDA II with windows mobile 2003 on it.
When in Bootloader Mode it says v1.01
when connected to the PC it says USB so i know its working in its own little way
I am trying to upgrade it to windows mobile 6.5.
I have tried everything so far and searched forums and tried things suggested on them but i just cant seem to do it.
Can someone send me a guide on how to do it please.

1. Can you enter bootloader? (serial text on screen without backlight)
2. Which Bootloader version do you have? It is written on screen when in bootloader mode at bottom (like 1.03v)
3. If you put your device into crandle (of course crandle is connected to usb in your pc/laptop) do USB text appear in place where Serial text was already?
4. Which system do you use? (Xp, vista, 7, linux, unix, amiga, commodore)
5. Do you have nk.nbf and Upgrade.exe or HimaUpdate(...).exe in THE SAME folder?
6. What happens if you run update application and click Next?
7. Did you tried to run in administrate mode?
8. Do you have x64 system?
9. Do you have himalaya? put out your battery and check if it is written PH10B or PH10A.
10. Did you tried another PC or another crandle?
11. Which rom you want to flash?

6. it says checking information on your PDA then says connection failed.
I tried it when not in bootloader mode aswell and it said it was erasing everything off my PDA but then said connection failed straight away.

Ive just had another O2 XDA II and a TMobile MDA II throught the post.
ive just ordered a new cradle today aswell, as the 1 I was using was slightly cracked on the bit that connects to the phone.
So that might of been the problem.
im unable to test until the new cradle comes (hopefully in the morning)

and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...

chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.

I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.

You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that. :lol:

I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.

Then i get the error on my PC:

Is there an easier way to explain this - Sorry i'm quite good working with my PC, but this was a bit greek:
All you need to do is:
1. Remove your SD card
2. Do a hard reset or clean storage (some programs like battery status block full access to your device)
3. Connect your mobile to PC and make sure that activsync connection is established
4. Start to flash your device with USPL, when DOS part end and your mobile switch to bootloader mode vista will find new device and start instaling new drivers.
5. Wait till vista finish installing new drivers and unplug your device, do a soft reset
6. Next step is to change vista drivers to xp, to do this you need to fallow this instruction:

7. After switching the drivers plug your artemis again and install USPL, there should be no more problems with connection lost (errors 260, 270)
8. When USPL instalation will finish you can flash any rom you want to your arte

The phone seems to have some problems. ( restarts sometimes , loong loading time , frizing...etc ). I got back to the dealer and ask for warranty. He sed that the problem is for shure software and i can make an update SEUS. I tried for 3 days to do it and i can't. I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1. The new and fresh Win mobile device center 6.1, working USB ports , different USB cables.I have no firewall.My phone connects without any problems and makes syncronization with sync center. The problem is in bootloader mode. I hear a connection sound , but the SEUS and the sync center doesn't see it. In system/device manager i see it as - mobile usb sync device ( or something like that ).The phone shows 3 colors and serial message . When i put the usb cable in , it changes to usb message. Doesn't do anything else. I tryed with/without SD card , restart , reinstall , reset , change ports , cables , drivers, win updates......all the advice in the forums except changing PC ( i have only 1).......Nothing.
I wanted to see if it's broken or not. I don't want to try hardspl flashing or anything else until i'm 100% shure that the phone is good. I don't want to give the f$%^&rs any reason to deny the warranty. So my question is : is there a solution to be able to connect to the SEUS in bootmode screen?
PS -- if it works i'll go for an different ROM-- i'm not dutch , and neither english , so pls excuse all the errors in this post.

Perhaps it is a 64-Bit issue. I can tell you from my experiments that under Win Vista 32-Bit it is most likely a problem of the USB driver. At least I don't think it's a software issue (By software I mean an application). If you run Windows XP on VirtualPC with USB "Passthrough", SEUS will not work either. So it must be a low-level problem of Vista. As you may know, Vista has a new driver system. I believe the 64-Bit version differs from the 32-Bit version in function.
Last week I checked SEUS with my Xperia and detected it correctly. But yesterday SEUS didn't recognize my X1. I didn't make any changes on my X1 since last week. I used Hard SPL to remove my custom Vodafone ROM 3 months ago, and I update to the official R2 without problems. I have the same problem that all of people who posted here. We need a solution because it's very strange this. Maybe SE made some change in his SEUS to avoid people who used Hard SPL update by the official way? Thank you very much. Best regards

Yes. When I connect it, the color bars disappear and start the progress bar that appears when a ROM is being installed. After a pair of seconds, Xperia reboot and says "no image file "., and comes to the boot screen with color bars again to rest in that state forever.

Clear the Checkbox : USB Connection allowed, in the Vista Mobile Devicecenter (before connecting the USB cable to X1). After that the SEUS can identify the X1 and continue with the guide.

I've got a problem. I want to flash my ROM to WM6.5.
I connectet my Phone with Vista over USB-Port.
The ROMUpdateUtility.exe start the GUI.The phone disconnect from Vista and the Install GUI shows me after few seconds the ERROR 260, that my Phone ist not connectet.
On my Phone I see the three coulored Monitor. On the left lower site is written "USB".
I tried to hold the connection with Vista ( i startet the Camera or other Applikation ) but the same problem.
Whenever i start the ROMUpdateUtility.exe the same. Disconnect and never connect again.
What can i do, that my phone stay connectet with Vista, so the Install GUI can make his work?

we tried with and without microSD card and or sim card.
The real problem is the connection which is interrupted and doesn't rebuild.
Independent of trying to flash the WM6.5 or USPL.
Silly question, but you never know..Do you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed in your PC and is your device connected to it? It is the "Activesync for Vista". The three coloured screen is normal, it is called Boatloader. After that you should have a progress bar of what you are updating (rom,radio..uspl..etc) on both PC and Artemis. In my case, when i got error [260] it's always because I forget to remove the SD card. I know you already tried this but keep it away from device when you flash.Your problem is maybe about Vista Drivers for Artemis, there are threads concerning it. Before you investigate further,try to install/reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center, change USB port and flash with a freshly booted PC. Hope you'll get the magic.
P.S. USPL flash is ABSOLUTELY THE FIRST THING TO DO!

Ok, here goes. I thought I had the same problem but all in all wm device center installed and I could sync, but not before searching and searching.
First and foremost, make sure wm device center is installed and updated with windows update.
2. Plug in device and wait for it to say that device software is installing.
3. Click on start button, and right click on computer. Select manage.
4. Up comes computer management.
5. Select device manager
6. Open network adapters and look for Microsoft Windows Mobile remote adapter and right click on it. Select uninstall.
7. Once it is uninstalled unplug your device and plug it back in. Should be noticed and installed and able to sync again.
I am also using windows 7 64 bit with a new TP2. If that does not work, go to this website and it has other possibilities....

i've plug after my tp2 and it's not working!... i've tried it on seven 32bits on another pc and it's work!... :s

Ok, do this. Open task manager and go to Processes tab. Scroll to the bottom and look for wmplayer.exe. It shouldn't be there. Now plug in your device and watch for it to come up. If it pops up and then goes away then let me know and we'll go from there.
i never used wmplayer...

It's not a matter of you using it or not. When you plug in and your computer recognizes it, you'll see wmplayer.exe come up and should stay up while being connected. Try one of your good phones and you'll see it pop up and stay. Just make sure you have task manager up and on Processes.
If it pops up and then goes away, there is a work around but is a big pain in the butt.
You could also have a bad phone. I know one of my HTC Advantages went bad and I had to send it in for a new one because it could not be recognized at all. I even went as far as doing a fresh install on the computer hoping maybe that would work. Turns out nothing did.
Let me know if you see the wmplayer come up or not.
I have also read that it could be a .dll issue, but if it won't work on any other computers that are working fine, then I'm going to run with a bad device.
i try with my kaiser : no wmplayer.exe or else opened juste programm for synchronisation..
and when i plug my tp2 nothing hapened..:s

I had to edit because I realized I was wrong with windows seven. I believe you might have a bad phone. Have tried using mtty yet?

mtty checks the usb connection on the device. You disable usb in activesync/windows mobile device center and then plug in your phone. Run mtty and select usb from the drop down. Then there are several codes you can enter to check for usb connectivity. What the codes are I don't know off the top of my head, but you can do a search and it will give you them on the forums. It is actually a pretty small but usefull piece of software.

i only see usb port when i plug my phone on bootloader and i saw USB on the bottom of screen but i cant do anything....nothing work

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but have you ran a registry cleaner or defrag program on your windows seven machine? If no then again I'm at a loss and will research this some more since I have time tonight. If so, then that more than likely is the culprit because I have ran different registry defrag/cleaner programs and once done, then windows mobile device does not function properly and I have to restore the registry from the back up that I would make prior to deletion. We'll get it figured out.....I hope.

I'm glad you figured it out and it is strange that the BIOS fixed it, but hay if it worked, great. I know this is a constant issue for wmdc and windows mobile devices, so that is why I tryed to help out. I gave you what I learned from my experiences and searching this forum like crazy. Thank and I might take you up on the PM one day.

For future reference:
I had the same prob with energy photon/WMDC/Windows 7
Untick "ask me 1st about usb conection type" in USB to PC, then soft reset
Prroblem solved!
