I just did PPC Techs upgrade to 128mb Ram and new battery. I'd like to add 400.11 ENG WM2003. Can I simply go to Jeff's Kitchen and download .exe file and install it or is that too simplistic?
I had previously upgrade to latest ATT upgrade from Siemens a couple of months ago and have the A.20.17 version.
Thanks

No, life can be that easy sometimes.
WM 2003
Thanks for the prompt reply--I assume I don't need SD card reader and simply install as I did the last upgrade using Active Sync??
Nope, just put XDA in cradle and make sure ActiveSync thinks it's connected. Then run the exe, and you'll be all set.
But i thought the 128 meg install includes special drivers for the extra 64 meg space? if you did an upgrade to wm2003, i don't think you'd still keep the drivers? T2T if i'm not mistaken
PPC TECHS UPGRADE
I'm waiting for a reply from them--because the drivers for T2T were for PPC2002 and I think they have to be updated for 2003. I'll check that before installing wm2003
I guess I didn't read as carefully as I should have. The 128 indeed needs the special driver. I wouldn't mind having that driver to stick in the kitchen. And I'd also like to know if it does WM2003...
the driver has a built in serial code that matches your last 4 digits of the unit's #... so no users can share, (incase they DO their own memory upgrade)
unless...... u change the unit's serial id #
Personally I could never see the reasoning behind these internal upgrades, memory is relatively cheap, sd cards dont take up room when in the slot and also the card needs no drivers external to the system. Am I missing some hidden benefits? Oh by the way I also know that these hardware mods are done mainly because they CAN be done so I am not knocking the achievement of the programmers and hardware buffs.

Yes: the internal memory can hold programs as they are being executed. So if you have a 512 MB SD-card, the 32 MB internal tends to become the next bottleneck.

How did you get ram upgraded to 128mb ?
sounds interesting!
128mb upgrade
Go to: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/ppcpup.asp
They are efficient and savvy
I was thinking doing the upgrade but was stuck to the same question.
Maybe the solution is to send them the Kitchen exe file to load after the upgrade. Thus the T2T driver can be also loaded in the new flashed ROM.
The only turn down I see, is that you cannot play anymore flashing the unit. Or you do an SD backup of the whole thing first (?)
Where are our gurus?

The ROM built in the kitchen overwrites anything in the device except the bootloader. The easiest would be if we could just incldue the driver in the kitchen. But if it's tied to the serial number this would be difficult...

I agree but, since they are changing only the RAM chip (upgraded to a 128MB one) and not the ROM one, we can send in the unit already flashed with the Kitchen exe file.
Then the T2T driver can be installed by them (I assume in RAM). No ?
Trying to clear things up....

To be honest, i have no idea how they ship the 128 MB units. I suppose th driver is indeed in RAM, and probably also supplied on media somehow.
Anyone here able to provide details?
So, I guess the 64Mb upgrade is the way to go if you want to keep playing with the ROM?
i called them...
be it the 128 or 256... the driver is first installed and tested on site,
then also emailed to you. with the serial code being your pda serial #.
i got the 64 upgrade. just coz i cant afford more.
AND, XDA IS COMMING SOONNNNNN

Have you got SP2 installed?
I cant, I dont have a genuine Windows.
Do you NEED SP2? Surely there is a way around this...
I can download activesync 3.8 but I think I need the drivers for the phone?
Any help... PLEASE!?!
I've had the same problem with my XP version
impossible also to install an update from windows site
I had to install an update on my windows 2000, that worked
and then activesync 4.1 finally worked 100%
other way to work around that was to download things on XP
put them on my old SPV E200 with activesync 3.7 wich works
and then send the things on my SPV M3000 by bluetooth...

Or get a Legit copy of Windows XP!!!
You run a pirate operating system then compalin when software doesn't work with it properly.
Come back when you have a license. Is your Wizard stolen as well?
hmmm dude...
the post isnt if its right or wrong to steal windows! Its to do with how we can cheat them more!
I think the only way round this is to download a crack to get xp2.
If I could find the drivers for the phone would it work on activesync 3.8?
PS. No my phone is not stolen, Im sure you have a copied CD in your collection somewhere too.
There's a vast number of copied XP versions with SP2 pre-installed available out there. Should be all you need.
I can get a legal copy of windows xp from somewhere...
But to install it would I loose all of my documents?
chrisredmayne: it would be in your interest to backup your docs (and whole system) before installing SP2, even if your windows is legit. It's a big install!
You could make your own SP2 install disk, by "slipstreaming" SP2 into a windows install disk. Also, there are cracks for SP2, and there are also cracks for trial versions of windows.
I imagine the ActiveSync install could probably be cracked to skip the SP2 check, but it's not a long term solution.
I don't recommend any of this. When you start using SP2 and Windows in the future, you'll have to have a legitimate copy to download certain updates from Microsoft, so you might as well get hold of a legit windows, one way or the other. OEM copies are stupidly cheap, and you can even buy an OEM Media Center install for a small amount of money.

there is a piece of software at
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2 called "card export II"
allows you to make the wizard look like a mass storage device, so activesync is not needed to transfer to the storage card.
ps (takes a few goes to install)
I dont get how to install it, only looked at it for a minute though. I unpacked all of the files, and it asks to open a prc file? and press hotsync on the cradle... (Guess that means phone).... Stumped
if i remember correctly .prc files are for palm user's not pocket pc.
i think you have downloaded the wrong version!
Use cardreader to download into mSD, anything you want:
Music, apps, but you need cab files to install it from mSD card.

aliendad, can you confirm you actually have Softick Card Export II for Pocket PC working on a wizard device? I have tried this on my k-jam and it didnt work at all. Even when i contacted Softick support they have said they are still working on a WM5 / Wizard compatible version.
EDIT: i just went and downloaded v2.10 of CE2PPC (which funnily enough isnt even mentioned on the website). In the setup i downloaded, i found there is a WM5 ARM install cab however this still fails to install on my Wizard / K-JAM as with all the previous versions.
Thanks
Chris
You need a minimum of SP1. You do not need SP2. For ActiveSync 4.1. If you cannot pass the genuine validation tool you need to enable automatic updates and to install them automatically. You cannot use the Windows Update site. If you set to install Critical Updates automatically it should bring down SP2 (as it is considered a Critical Update)
Also you can just download SP2 (the full install) and you should be able to install it. It should not require validation as you can install it if not connected to the network.
Although the above may not work if you truly have a messed up version of XP. I am assuming you have either a cracked version of a legit copy or an invalid product code.
I have read about people cracking XP Media Center 2005 and all worked well until the Genuine Validation tool. Then somebody came out with a crack for that.
Good Luck
I just got a disk with XP so I think its a fake validation code that I have.
I downloaded the SP2 from the windows update site, and from a random site somewhere that I searched on google for.
The problem was that when I tried to install it stopped after a few minutes and said that it wasnt a genuine windows. So Im guessing any version that I download will have the same check on it.
But I shall try and turn my updates on later and see if it works, or give that other program a go!

yes, is does work, had to do a lot of soft reseting but now have a quick access icon at the bottom of the screen to select card export or active sync.
a few days ago did a hard reset, and installed card export as one of the first installs and it installed much more smoothly that the earlier install.
ps great prog makes things much easier, can't install activesync at work.
Hello everybody,
Is it possible that the SD Card's are not working on XP?
I have an entry in my device manager. But if I insert a SD Card it wont work.
Regards,
CodeX2k
XP on the shift reads my smaller cards, 1gb and 4gb, but not my 16gb sdhc. There is an XP sdhc patch available from microsoft, but it made no difference on my shift.
Mine reads 16.
Only after hibernate/sleep I often loose any sd card and I get an error in my device manager.

Right now I can't test if the smaller cards are working. I only have a 16GB SDHC Class 6 with me in my holidays...
Did anyone get SDHC Cards working on XP?
I have the same problem when I installed the XP, SD slot won't read 16G,
But 16G SD card works with my USB card reader. Touch screen also won't work so gave up XP, restored Vista.
Only things won't work for me on XP are SDHC, Resolution Change and the HTC Utility all others works just fine ahhh and Touchscreen Calibration.
Hi @all
***EDIT***
I test now some other drivers, and see: It is really necessary, that you really right update the sdbus driver. I use this one:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67470
and force this driver to update, then if you want to update this driver normally, then the device manger tells you, that no other driver is newer than the installed.
But: I install again from scratch and test a little bit.
I think it is really related to the sdio driver problem when you want to install the WLAN.
But i´m not really shure, it is the right driver.
later more ;-)

SDHC don´t work to by my side. (test with 8GB kensigton) Normal SD e.g. 512MB Cards works.
I comparing the drivers with a other Notebook and i See, on HTC Shift the Driver is originaly from Microsoft build date 10-01-2002. My other Notebook has an driver from 2006 and from company O2Micro.
maybe that´s the Problem. Anybody knows what is the manufacturer of the SD Card Slot?
Can anybody send me the *.inf files from a Vista installed machine? Or have a look to the devicemanager of Vista, which driver is installed?
Additional I See: the driver sdbus.sys located in c:\windows\system32\drivers is the Version 6.0.5308.17 (with SP3) and is newer than the SDHC Hotfix that you can download from Microsoft...
Hmm. crazy..
see here the Microsoft Hofix link: (BTW: there a other hotfixes for SDHC Issues downloadable from MS too)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923293/en-us
It doesn't appear to be limited just to the Shift: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366570
It appears that the hotfix won't work and even the sp3 unless there's a specific fix/driver for the Shift, since Shift is not supported with XP officially, there wouldn't be one from HTC.
P.S. 16GB doesn't work on mine either. Still, not enough to make me go back to the ultra-slow Vista
Hi Doni,
thank you, really interesting. As I install a blank Windows XP SP3 from CD on shift (without additional drivers) , my Kingston 8GB SDHC Card works. (the first time I inserting my SDHC I become a blue screen) but after restart it works.
I think, the SD Card Reader device of Shift is a standard product, that build into other PC´s too, only the way to find out that that´s is the problem
I have some backup´s from my installation and can go back, so I will try it, at which time it has works..
see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438820
###edit: ###
I test it with fallback to my older backups.
SDHC works, before I Installed the SDBUS.sys driver that is needed to become WLAN functionality. So I think, we must look for a other sdbus.sys driver (file) ?
I'm assuming then that WLAN doesn't work with the SP3 sdbus.sys, right? And the version that does, doesn't work for SDHC. Nice I suppose we need one that does both.
Hi Doni,
i have searched some hours for a solution.
to track the problem was a Everun UMPC http://www.raondigital.com/fnt_english/ev01.asp
essential, where we have stolen the sdbus.sys driver.
If you go there to the support and driver download you see, there is only the "sdbus.sys".
Really interesting, "how to" the normal user can change this file
normally is in a driver package (*.sys) always a *.inf file included, what I missed.
When you change only the *.sys file, maybe you can have problems with it, sometimes, there a difficult or other settings stored in Registry to control this driver.
And this is the problem I´m think. We need an officical *.inf (maybe installed) file from a Raon Everun UMPC.
I install at the moment Vista on shift to fetch the SD Bus settings from Vista side, maybe I become like Jesus and see the holy spirit.. (sorry, only joking)
I think the sdbus drivers of WXP-SP3 are ok, but you need some registry tweaks to control that right. Maybe the *.inf from Vista tell it me.
BTW: I don´t need the sdbus.sys from RAON within my precomiled WXP TPC SP3. WLAN works with the original sdbus.sys as well.
And that´s it: I try this way. Next week I´m on a Business trip, long time in lonesome hotels with long nights..
Always with a 16GB USB Stick and Acronis on it to recover. What need a man more in the City Jungle?
))
bg Joy
BTW:
WXP SP3 Driver Version 6.0.4069.5 from 2008-10-01 (Y-M-D) (sdbus.sys 6.0.4069.5512 (080413-2111)
Vista (org HTC) Version 6.0.6000.16478 from 2006-06-21 6.0.6000.16478 (vista_gdr.070427-1615)

if you use that in a *.inf file
(make a new inf file with texteditor and copy lines above into it)
than you can install the raeon sdbus.sys driver
normally without windows safe mode...

Hi Unapproachable, where can I find your patch, please? Would you please put up a link to it or attache it here in the theread? Thank you!
EDIT: I've found it! For those interested the patch <SDIO_Fix_01a.zip> can be downloaded from the thread SHDC & Wifi XP Fix located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691208
Great thing Unapproachable2kx, thank you! I'll test it asap and report back.
Unapproachable2kx, is this patch still in the alpha state or is it pretty final?
Hi Unapproachable2kx!
I have tested your patch and I have inconsistent results. This means that I got wifi working (it used to work also before the test) and I got SDHC working once without problems for several insertions and wifi connect-disconnect cycles.
But after reboot and several other reboots the system was self-resetting and restarting when inserting the SDHC card (8GB Kingston). So after 6-7 such auto-resets I gave up using the SD card.
It is good to know for those who want to go that way that even if the wifi is on, the wifi icon doesn't show up in the task bar, so to make it visible you have to disconnect it and reconnect it with the .bat scripts (buttons).
Actually it seems to me that one can get the same results as installing the patch by doing an update of the wifi Marvell driver (which will go from the ionitial version 8.75.500.624 to the latest version 8.75.813.830) via internet (wifi connected) by using the appropriate Update button in the Hardware Manager. After that you have to replace in c:\Windows\System32\Drivers the sdbus.sys used in the wifi installation process (6.0.5308.17) with the initial Win XP SP3 6.0.4069.5512 (if you copied and saved it during the installation). For this replacement no Safe mode appears to be necessary. The same game with stopping and restarting the wifi board is necessary.
Any other's experience please?

Hi joy.d, wonderful thing if working stable.
What is the purpose of getting this new *.inf file, are you trying to replace the initial sdbus.inf file? If so could we start from that one and do only the changes?
Could you please be so kind to attache your *.inf file here in this forum? How did you named it? How to proceed further with it?
What sdbus.sys file did you use, the 4069 or the 5308 version?
Many thanks!
