For some reason my 'Camcorder' application resolution is nowstuck on "S (128x96)".
This is when I go into the settings->Advanced page.
It doesn't matter which codec I select, the resolution stays greyed out.
Any ideas? This is really annoying.

In the main video menu, you have the "mms video" option selected.
There is a camcorder icon in between the settings cog and the album icon, you can change it in there.
Camcorder Resolution Stuck on S (128x96) VIDEO AND NOT MMS VIDEO option
My 'Camcorder' application resolution is stuck on "S (128x96)" also.
This is when I go into the settings->Advanced page on 'Video' option - (MMS Video option is actually set to M (176x144), ie a Higher resolution than Video option).
Changing between MP4 and H.263/4 format doesn't help, the resolution is always greyed out.
I have a stock 1.43.206.4 WWE ROM and have only applied the official HTC Patches.
Does anyone know of a reg edit to fix this???, I've installed dotfred Task Manager with RegEdit built-in.
Hope someone can help, please.
Thanks.
You had me excited there, thought it was going to be that simple, but alas, that's not it.
With 'MMS Video' selected - the envelope with a camcorder at top right - the resolution is fixed at "M (176x144)".
The proble is when I have 'Video' selected - a camcorder on its own - At this point going into the settings cog and then advanced, the resolution is fixed at 128x96. Its greyed out so cannot be changed - just the same as with MMS Video selected bu an even lower resolution!
Very odd.
Any other augestions?

Do you guys have any tweaking apps installed?
The reason I ask is I have MPEG4 as a format option, which I think is only accessible with a tweak app, like BsBTweak (or reg file of course), I notice Firestorm33 does.
The only things greyed out on mine are metering mode and prefix, both of which I can guess the function and doubt they are related to this.
What options do you have selected in the Advanced options for video?
I have:
Resolution: VGA (obviously this is the one in question)
Review Duration: 10 seconds (I have tried all options in here and cannot reproduce your issue)
Capture Format: MPEG4 (which I think is only accessible with a tweak app, like BsBTweak (or reg file of course)
Recording Limit: No Limit
Keep Backlight: On
Record with Audio: On
Shutter Sound: Off (have toggled this, no difference)
Under Image Properties: +3 for all
Effect: None
Metering Mode: Spot (greyed out)
Prefix: Default (greyed out)
Counter: 52 (unlikely to cause issue though!)
Flicker Adjustment: Auto
Help/About are unnecessary.
Do these match yours? (bar the MPEG4 option)
Camcorder stuck resolution - S (128x96)
I don't have a lot of time right now, I'll get back to you rp-x1 on settings and apps later.
Initially I was just re-iterating that I have the same problem as FM, but to explain my problem in more detail, the first day I owned my HD2 I recorded a video (at a higher resolution, ie an acceptable quality for everyday use, will try and get the actual res later) than I can now, so something I've installed since then, whether it be the the official HTC Patches or some other app must've locked down the resolution to the S 128x96 setting. I've not installed a whole lot of 3rd party apps yet, will post more details tonight.
I have thought about doing a Hard Reset to take the phone back to factory settings, but hoping I don't have to.
I do have BSB Tweaks installed, yes.
And to be honest I couldn't say either way whether this problem started around that time.
I'll post a mesage in the BSB Tweaks forum as well to see if anyone there has seen anything similar (there's no mention as I did a search there before posting here just in case).

Hi guys,
I've exactly got the same problem, have you found a issue yet ?
Haven't been able to find what caused this, so yesterday I took the plunge and hard reset.
Camcorder, of course, came back all good and I've since installed all my apps again (I think they're all on now) and the problem hasn't come back.
One thing I did notice, though, is that 'mobiletag' no longer seems to work. This possibly stopped working around the same time that the Camcorder issue started - though I'm not sure about that.
Even after the hard reset and re-install 'mobiletag' throws an error that it's 'unable to load camera library'. The error details aren't particularly helpful either as the charcter set appears to be odd. The errors are:
Code:
at #.#.#()
at #.#.#()
at #.#.#()
at #.#.SpecificInit()
at #.#.#()
at #.#.#()
at #.#.#()
at #.#.#()
where each of the # characters above is actually a square character like you get when a character is missing from a articular font.
May be related, may be not.
Would be interesting to know if anyone else who has had this problem also has 'mobiletag' installed - it uses the camera so there's some logic to that being to blame.

Hmm, this is an interesting question. I remember such a warning when I installed Core Media Player as well. I didn't realise it's a global hardware acceleration switch that was turned off. That may explain why my device is sluggish...

Yikes. Me, too.
I didn't realize that either. I wish I saw this thread before I installed this morning.
Email the developer of Coreplayer and ask?
Can you not go under preferences on the video page and re-enable it (sorry if this is a silly quesiton)?

Well, isn't it just a matter of areinstallation, activate ATI, and uninstall again?
Don't think its disabled accross the whole device...
Well you're all making valid points regarding this, but I'm inclined to believe (despite the notice during installation), that it doesn't deactivate the hardware acceleration across the whole device, but only disables its use in the mediaplayer as default due to incompatibility. There are too may other aspects of the Athena that would depend on it functioning...like the camera and WMP10 certainly still uses it as MP4 video playback in ASP format is still considerably better than in Coreplayer or TCPMP...meaning hardware acceleration is not disabled by default in WMP10, in IMHO therefore not disabled by default throughout the device...only in coreplayer/TCPMP.
Just my observations...not 100% certain. Plus 2D games are greatly accelerated by the Imageon chip and I must say I have no issues in that department either.
Hi there
If I understand correctly, you're talking about the BMP-caching functionality of the Imageon. If so, no need to uninstall TCPMP, you can re-enable BMP caching from the "Options" menu, then "Options..." menu item, then "ImageOn" tab, then first check-box.
You'll need to soft-reset the device for that setting to take effect, which leads me to think that strangely enough, it IS a system-wide setting....

You mean the "Disable OS Bitmap Caching (Advised!)" setting? Hmm, I already have that unchecked so guess I'm OK?
-Krip
Yep, that's what I mean, from what you described (the question asked during TCPMP installation and all).
So yes, you're ok about that, although leaving this box unchecked *sometimes* causes strange artifacts in movies (parts of images that don't disappear as quickly as they should, for instance). But these occurences are so rare that I also left the box unchecked.
I'm just wondering if Facebook online album for each contacts in People is working for you guys?
I can't seem to load any of the photos for every contact. I can see the list of albums, but not the photos in it.
Any idea why?
*edit*
Solution is here
This has been discused before, it's to do with your contacts privacy settings not the HTC app
Seems to work fine for me. Some things don't show but as mentioned before that is probably to do with privacy settings.
Facebook app could do with improving in my opinion doesn't seem overly capable. Viewing comments seems to be a lot of effort.
Do you know which part of privacy settings of Facebook account which hinder us from seeing the contact's photo albums? My own Facebook account privacy settings are always set to the lowest, i.e can be seen by everyone. But still, I can't view my own photos via HTC Album ---> FB album.
Hmmmmm should be able to see your own stuff surely as you are logged in as you. I can see mine and various friends fine. Perhaps your problems are unrelated to privacy settings. Maybe something to do with your data connection?
I've noticed that the Facebook online albums for friends have also stopped working for me on my HD2. They did work fine on the original O2 1.43 ROM but don't seem to be working on the 1.48 ROM. Not sure if this is to do with the upgrade or something else. I'm trying to find the local cache on the phone for the albums, thinking I might be able to purge the cache which might get it working again.
Edited to add: By not working I mean I can see the online albums with the number of photos in each one but when I go to view the photos the thumbnails do not load and neither do the full size photos. The number of broken thumbnails seem to match the number of the files supposed to be in the album. This is why I was thinking it might be the temporary location where the photos are stored!?
Finally i found someone who is having the same problem as me. I'm trying to check my settings and applications to find out where might the root of the problem be.
Hope we can find out the cause of the problem.
I have the same problem!
What networks are you all on? This was an issue on the Hero, but only for certain networks. Modaco had a fix for it, but with stock roms it was an issue
I'm on O2 in the UK, tried it on Wi-Fi and 3G and neither works (it just takes longer to not work on 3G).
As I said before this feature worked perfectly before and definitely stored the images in a cache somewhere as items I had looked at before loaded very quickly.
I'm trying to reset various settings at the moment to see if I can kick it back into action.
I had this same problem untill someone (sorry, forgot the place where, but credit him/her) told me, to my surprise, that it has to do with messing around with the caches, either in Advanced Config, BsB or another tweaking app. Reset the caches to their defaults, soft reset and Facebook albums will work in HTC Album.

The problem is due to cache tweaking.
To solve it,
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS
Change - CacheSize to 0
I supposed the default value is 0 ?
I did this and everything is working great now.

I've been messing about quite a bit with my HD2 since getting it with various registry tweaks, goldcarding the phone with the latested ROM etc. I've been using BsB tweaks since v1.1, on this ROM I think I installed v1.3.1 and recently upgraded to v1.4. I did enable all the performance tweaks in v1.3.1 and then upgraded to v1.4 which has "auto cache" disabled? The Glyph Cache and TCP/IP Cache remained on but the other option went. I wonder if the registry change didn't get removed / changed back after the upgrade?
Anyway, I've disabled both the "High Glyph Cache" setting and the "High TCP/IP Cache" performance options in BsB Tweaks 1.4 and soft reset. This didn't fix the Facebook album

I upgraded BSB tweak from 1.3 to 1.4 without disabling the cache tweak first (wasn't aware of the problem it causes). I think this causes the registry entry value to remain the same after upgrading to 1.4. The cache tweaking in BSB Tweak 1.4 changes different registry entries.
You have to change the registry manually and it will be solved.

Have a look at this.
I think that's the registry setting that he meant.
All working for me now I've set that registry setting back to 0
Thanks!
Slightly OT:
When I messed around with performance parameters using HD Tweak 0.5.4 (items 14.1-14.3 and 18.1-18.3), my unit became excruciatingly slow after soft resetting. The only option going forward was to hard reset.
So I reckon that HD2 performance settings are to be done differently from HD (my previous phone). ATM I have left these alone as I am satisfied with the performance, so there is really no need.
Back on topic: my default cache setting was 0 and my facebook syncs properly.
hey guys. my cachesize reg is 0 but cant see albums. but it s weird tht it works great with wifi connection. fi not, i still can update my status vie by "me" contact card an upload phots vie htc album. but cant link people to facebook account and cant see their albums in htc album if am not connected via wifi. an i cant see my albums too. it says this user has no albums to view.
wht can be wrong. it works fine via wifi but doesnt work via gprs/3g?
thx..
If you guys using a custom rom there is a 80% chance it will not work unless the chef fixes it.
** Avoid Focus Stuttering in Low Light for "SCEF02" Users **
Hello guys, i'm too one of the SCEF02 users who suffered from low-light focusing for over a year now
we all tried everything we could, like using SIEG02 firmware that would give away our focusing-flash and video light
or setting exposure to -4 and creating a dark video!
i always knew this trick would work but we hadn't this option in stock video recorder or lgcamera app
the answer is lowering the ISO!
i have found a software from market that u can set iso for video recording, its called: "CameraPro (Camera X)" (not free but it worth it)
in v2.27 of this software the hd & full-hd video recording of GSII is fixed and now we can use it as our primary video recording software
in iso 100 and 200 u would Never have Low-Light Stuttering and its not dark while recording its just a bit draker even less than setting exposure from 0 to -1
i tested it last night and i've got Smooth video and Quick focusing like filming in day!
all u have to do is to install and open the software & :
1. go to settings (first tab)
2. find this option: "Show unsupported controls" (now u have control over ISO)
3. go to video tab (8th tab) and in "video profile" and select "720p 1280x720"
4. scroll down and select "Enable video expert mode"
5. set other parameters as you like, audio channels, audio bitrate, video bitrate and many more
6. click back and in main screen select settings icon to change ISO
7. set it to "200"
It's Done! now u are ready to capture non-stuttering videos in low-light
any question about software or sharing your ideas are welcome
Hope u enjoy it...

This method is well known for months... and is not true solution for SCEF02 problems. You can minimize shuttering effects but on the end you get darker video. So you decrease video quality on your own changing one issue for another.
There was no, is no and will be not any real solution for this problem except full camera module change.
Brutal life.

So is it darker than 0 setting or not because if it is then it is not solution. It is just walkaround, changing one thing (issue) for another.
Yes I had tested this app before I replaced module to OMEF01 and videos were choppy (2.20 IIRC).
lgCamera can change ISO too, worth to try.
i'm using lgcamera since i bought my phone! changing ISO on lgcamera is not effective, worth a try!!

Here r the videos from my device, i had to resize it to nHD
Edit: CameraPro video is darker because i forgot to change exposure from -1 to 0 (it's -.5 btw)
Hi KINGTAtu:
first of all, thanks for sharing your experience with all of us.
I have some questions about this software:
I got the version 2.27 that you mentioned in your post and when I went to "Video profile" in the menu I only have 2 choices: "low quality" or "high quality", but you said that you could select 720 p 1280X720.
How is that possible? Do I need to go to another place in the menu?
In addition, I saw that when I selected video, it says "Video (Test)". Is this your case also?
In the video section of the settings, it also says that the video section is a beta version.
So far, I was using lgcamera with ISO set to 200 and it is working great, but obviously when I read your post I was curious about this software.
However, I realized that in lg camera if I touch to focus before I start recording, the program does it very quickly and show me a green square meaning that it focused well. On the other side with CameraPro, it focuses not so quickly and the result is always a red square, so I am not sure if it is working properly.
Thanks again for your comments, and regards.

Hi All,
i found solution for unlimited recording on android device, it has pros and cons so hopefully some programmer will come and modify the buildin camera apk.
here are solutions they are working perfects but the problem is the quality is no where close to the buildin cam apk.
1. lgCamera
2. Snap Camera HDR
3. moto x camera apk its free and in my opinion its quality better than the other 2.
so the problem of limited recording is not due to format fat32, because htc on buildin cam apk record 30 minutes and stops and its size is 4gb, but i have tried lgcamera was recording over an hours and its size was 5.7gb.
i do not keep it long, i hope some programmer modify htc one cam apk to record unlimit or auto splitted to 30 minutes duration, also modify its zoom default to the value of 50% because htc one cam is way zoomed out.
so if any genius person modify the camera apk then it will be best solution, it just need to override the default camera apk setting when some one modifying its camera apk.
some time when we have party i do not like to go and modify zoom setting and start record again every half an hour.
Thanks for any programmer who modify this and good luck with the rest for temporary solution.
Hi,
snap camera records 30fps with 20mbit in low light, but the result is darker then htc stock camera.
regards
starbase64
I could be off here, but since you said recording stops at 30 minutes, I think I have a solution:
In /system/etc/media_profiles.xml, there is a "duration=" setting for each encoder profile. This can be set to either 30 or 60, and currently all profiles except qvga are set to 30. You may be able to set this to 60 and be able to record up to 60 minutes. Report back.

You do realise that routinely changing the zoom is a terrible idea on the One?
It's a digital zoom, not an optical one, so all you are doing by zooming in is losing pixels - this is fine if you are shooting something and wish to zoom in for effect, but as a general rule if you want to get the best quality out of the camera, you should leave zoom well alone. This is especially true of the One as it doesn't have that many pixels to play with in the first place.
See here for more info - http://www.tfpsoft.com/fun/digitalcameraguide/digitalversusopticalzoom.html

In /system/etc/media_profiles.xml, there is a "duration=" setting for each encoder profile. This can be set to either 30 or 60, and currently all profiles except qvga are set to 30. You may be able to set this to 60 and be able to record up to 60 minutes. Report back.[/QUOTE]
hello homeslice976
Thank you very much for the information you have provided. i have uploaded 2 screen shots of the xml file you have stated and also uploaded 2 xml file which are original xml file on my htc device, but i think the device must be rooted to replace those xml files? am i wrong?
if i need to root my device then i will try to do it later today as my connection is very slow right now.

Regards,
Dave[/QUOTE]
Thank you Dave,
i will test to video one with zoomin at let say 40% and other will let zoom alone but i will crop the video to equivalent of 40% zoomin video, i will compare the 2 side by side and will report back the result.

Zindu

yes you'll need to be rooted. you don't need to do anything with media_codecs.xml. Just media_profiles.xml.

zoomin htc one
hello Dave,
i have tested the video, i captured 2 video phone was at stable position, one without touching zoom and the other shoot was zoomed about 60%
then i cropped the one with 0 zoom to the same frame as the one with 60% zoom.
the result is as follows:
after cropping the video file from 1920 x 1080 became 775 x 425 well if i keep this size the file remain same quality but when i cropped back to
1920 x 1080 the quality is blury and no where near the original or the video was shooted with 60% zoomin.
so i believe the zoomin in htc one does not effect its quality as long as you are not zoomed extreme.
when you crop video and resized you will lose quality the same as zoomin, but all camcorders allow certain zoom without affecting quality, so i believe htc one zoomin is the same, but some video camera have advanced zoomin to go beyond limited for instance 72x advanced zoomin and the normal zoomin is 20x, so if you go beyond 20 you still zoomin further but you will lose quality and shaky footage.so the safe is to stay with 20x range.
all edited with after effects and even i did not export the out put, but after editing them compared them side by side, it is like day and night the quality differences between the 2 videos.
thank you though for information, i will try first to root my device and see if i can go beyond the limited recording.

Report back.

hello again
i have changed those number to 60
i started from
<!ATTLIST EncoderProfile duration (60|60) #REQUIRED>
and each
<EncoderProfile quality="cif" fileFormat="mp4" duration="60">
so as you see all are in 60 minutes but no luck sofar i tried twice
1st record 25:39
2nd attempt records 26:04
both size are 3.79 gb in size
now i started recording again to see what is the the outcome if it is the same then i have to try to changed back to 30 at least its 30minutes, so i think it is the size limit thing
update: it is size limit issue, i checked again it says video size limit is reached.
i think it is be useful if some one try to write a code to state when ever the video reach limited time then start again automatically.
but thanks for the advice, i will let you know if i come with better solution..
thank you.

zindu

Sorry - that was just a theory anyway. I'll keep looking around for something else that might be limiting the file size.

Hi guys, this seems to be the only real discussion on this issue going on at all.
Has anyone been able to find a way around this limitation?
the problem is there are many know how to solved but they do not shared with us.
only who does not know and they spread a word over the net and same crap like, it is due to format type, let me tell you i have solved mine on htc one no problem what so ever until i stopped manually.
i am not a programmer but currently when i have time i try to learn java then i will after that develop simple app and progressing from there and will help the community but that take up to 1 to 2 years.
any way how i solved mine? i do not know my self but i did 2 things will shared with all of you.
1. i rooted my htc one device, there is plenty guide on this forum.
2. i decompile my camera apk and i change a picture and i can not remember if i mess little with codes or not but i doubt i did, so i deleted the original camera apk and replaced with my modification.
i will be glad to share my camera apk with you if you think it might be due to this modifications, i tell you what? i never update the system software now, because i am afraid i will lose the unlimited recording, so it works for me but i do not know how, but in future when i understand java programming i will help every one in this community.

Zindu, thank you so much for sharing.
I emailed Google about this here is the response I got:
"Thank you for contacting Google. I appreciate your patience with me as I look into this issue. It seems as though the limit placed on the video data file of 2gb is written into the android operating system. This is in effect on all types of android devices.
I have researched a few video control apps, they follow the same rule and stop at 1.9-2gb. At this time I do not believe there is a work around for this issue. I do not have software update information available either. Some of the research I have done points to a possible legislative law that limits the video recording time of mobile devices as it takes away from video recorders."
pal first thing you do undock the cam apk from the bar dock on your phone, see if it is working, what i mean by the dock is the bar on your phone on the bottom which have space for 4 or 5 applications, so undock cam apk from this dock and used on the main windows view.
if that does not work root ur phone and undock cam apk from dock bar.
if both does not work then if you have htc one i will upload my cam apk so you can install it on urs.
mine was limited to 4gb now its unlimited in size and durations, a programmer can develop application to over ride the camera system settings, so if i learn java in future my first apk will be try to over ride system setting.

I have a Nexus 5. My camera app is not docked. What should I do next?
if its not docked then rooted anyway see if it works?
what i did i undocked, rooted, modified a pick and some codes in xml file, and it works for me so i do not know which step caused the fix, but you need to root your device if you want to replace system application on your phone.
try to root your device first and try to modify xml file see if it works, if it was htc one i could help because i can upload xml and apk file.
that is all i know for now hope someone who have better knowledges to help you out but i hope i learn java within a year or too then i be able to fix this issue.

So far this has been the most insightful information. Still, no idea how to overcome something this stupid.

Ikr, it is pretty ridiculous. Zindu is right though, it's simple enough but the people who can figure it out don't care. Most people just don't seem to need their phone for our purpose.
My workaround has been SVR Pro:
-Upsides -It will record in fragments until your storage is full.
-You can use your device while recording
-You can record with the screen turned off !! which is epic for battery life!
-Downside -you loose like a second of video between the fragments

I think I found a bug in the camera app of the G4.
I set the Video recording quality to UHD on the back camera and the Front Facing camera to 4:3 for images to get the maximum quality from the camera.
After some time, the settings always go back to the HD and 16:9 settings.
+1 not only the quality, the grids will be turned off... simply all settings are be reverted back to default for the camera app.... im current on V10c. camera app version is 4.52.34.6.....
"camera to 4:3 for images to get the maximum quality from the camera."
Thanks I didn't know that
I too have the same problem. Vodafone branded version 10b
What I did to solve that is to disable quick shot in Shortcut key. I haven't had my settings deleted since I did that 2 weeks ago.
I do experience the same problem. It's quite annoying. I will disable shortcut key and see how that works.
On the other hand, the native resolution for Sony Exmor IMX234 (the sensor for the back camera) is 5312 x 2988, that is 16:9 aspect ratio. If you set it to 4:3 the images will be cropped. Try to take photos in both settings and compare. So if you want the best quality leave aspect ratio at 16:9.

Back camera needs to be 16:9 for best quality but front camera should be 4:3 for best quality.

Yes, this is a really annoying bug.
Mine forgets the settings (GPS tagging pop up, grids, 4:3) even without reboot. I'll have my settings done, and later in the day, it will have forgotten them already. I'm surprised that none of the reviewers before release didn't experience or mention this bug.
Coincidentally enough, my previous phone (Galaxy S4) also forgot many of its settings day to day. Hmmm.
I've resorted to using the app "A Better Camera" which is mostly better featured, but slow slow slow to snap.

I haven't tried it yet. I've got so used to ABC's features, I might just stick with it.
Thanks anyway, I'll try your workaround if ever I return to the stock camera.
Tried it, even tried turning shortcut key completely off. Doesn't seem to work.

It works in my case, turning the shortcut key option completely off i mean...
But i really hate to turn it off because it's a great feature if you ask me...
I hope LG will fix that bug asap! :fingers-crossed:
Same problem here! Gets reset after each reboot. LG G4 H815 V10d-EUR-XX. I found this problem reported as early as LG G2. Doesn't it give you a warm, fuzzy and secure feeling when the software of your mobile device is just copy and pasted for years without anyone even bother to take a look?
I don't know why, but my settings don't restart any more when rebboting my G4... What i did u ask?
Well, nothing special actually... I turned off the shortcut key, rebooted, opened the camera app, set
all of the options, turned on the shortcut key, rebooted and that's it...
