I use a Vario II and even if I have full 3G reception, it reverts back to GPRS when in a call which means I can't browse the web while in a call. It then connects back to 3G asap when the call is over. During video calls, 3G works fine and stays connected as it should.
I know it's possible to have both because I have actually made a test call while on 3G and was browsing the web for a few brief moments at the same time before it reverted back to crappy GPRS again.
Is this T-Mob UK taking the piss like they do with they're bloody proxy which compresses all images or is there something I can do here to remedy it.
Thanks.
Thoughts anyone?
My phone does that in my house (memphis, USA) and the problem i have is not being able to hang up. I found a program called showumts that i believe i got from here. All it does it change the registry so that a band tab is available in the phone options. I can manually set GSM or WCDMA and make it stick. This is not exactly like your problem but maybe it could force WCDMA instead of the Auto option built into the phone. (I have 8525 Hermes)
I have upgrade my ROM to the WWE AKU 3.3 TEST version on the upgrading site.
The details are listed hereunderwith my user CP.
This new ROM is great and I have it displaying G, U and H for GRPS, 3G and HSDPA respectivly.
I am sure that an official version will be released in South Africa soon.
In fact I have also changed the U to display 3G.
So far the ROM is very stable, the bluetooth stack greatly improved, and I have no gripes with the Radio ROM 1.35.
Hi!
Data connection works on my phone only when there are 3g available (hsdpa works fine also). On gprs/edge area there are G and E -symbols on the top of screen(!), but any data does not move. I haven't any idea, what is wrong. Gprs and Edge worked fine two weeks ago.
Yes, I have tried an another company SIM-card - 3g still works, 2g does not. Is there any register key or something to put gprs and edge to work again? There isn't any tab on phone settings to switch 2g on/off. Updating radio ROM (from 1.51.00.10 to 1.54.07.00) did not help.
The one and only program I have used (connected to data connection issues) is the newest BandSwitch-program, but is there any change that BS caused that problem?
OS is WM6.
If anyone have an idea to fix this, please let me know!
With best regards,
Teemu
Hi everyone
I'm using Singtel ROM version 1.31.871.14 with Radio version 1.58.16.27, and I have complaints from people who said they called me but I never see a missed call on my Touch Dual device.
Did anyone suffer same problem?
Do I need to update the ROM or Radio version ? if yes, which version should I use ?
try this changing your network type to GSM
settings > phone > band
when your device is online with gprs you will not receive calls.
changing to gsm will make it worse...
I have a same problem.
Here in my house where I should have full reception, I have only 2 lines and it falls to 0 from time to time.
Does anyone know anything about it? Is it radio rom problem or?
I also would like to know which radio rom gives the best reception - if not the default one delivered onto your phone.
My info - T-Mobile branded HTC Touch Dual (named Touch Plus by T-Mobile).
Operator - T-Mobile
Country - Netherlands.
Very poor reception, also when only GSM Band selected. Phone is now in for repair by T-Mobile - i think it has an antenna problem but could not get my finger at it.
Anyone any info to lighten things up ?
Would be highly appr.

I don't believe that the above is correct. As far as I am aware, calls are independent from data. I have GPRS connected all of the time, and can still send and receive calls.
Data and calling use and not independant - when you make a call notice that your GPRS/HSDPA connection drops and then restarts when you end the call. Texts are not affected as you can send/receive texts in mid-call as well as during a data connection.
UPDATE: I have noticed that I have only no 2G service. What am I doing wrong? From *#*#*4696#*#* under phone info I have enabled "WCDMA preferred". Can this be a hardware thing if I have 3G connectivity but cant connect to 2G network??
Hi everyone!
I've been having a strange problem lately - at random times and random places I suddenly have no service so i can make no calls. Then after about 10 minutes I have service again and everything seems to be just fine until the next time that happens.
This can happen at random places but also after I return from somewhere where there's not supposed to be any service (from the basement for example) it also takes very long (10-20 min) until I have service again. Also i have noticed that sometimes when I have no bars and can make no calls, I can still go online on mobile internet (not wifi).
It started after I updated Hyperdroid 2.01 to Hyperdroid 3.0. I have since then tried several times to completely wipe everything (have reinstalled WM6.5 (the problem persisted in WM6.5 also) and have wiped everything with task29.
After wiping I have reinstalled radio v 2.15.xx, MAGLDR 1.13, CWR 150MB partition and then reinstalled Hyperdroid 2.01 but i still keep getting the random service drops.
Can this be hardware-related? What else can I try?
"What else can I try?"
Your sim in another phone. Not just for 5 minutes, for a few hours.
Have you looked into your providers network status? Could be doing system upgrades.
Have you inadvertently set to use 3g only?
I didn't know that there was an option to only use 3G. But as soon as I switched to "only 2G" I lost the connection again so it might have something to do with that. How could I disable this "only 3G" (I can't find it near the "only 2G" option).
Also will try a different sim.
Thanks

sorry, not sure offhand, i used to know how to do it in winmo.
So now I have tried dialing *#*#*4696#*#* to enter "phone information" and there ir reads "WCDMA preferred" so that means 2G should be enabled as well. But when I select GSM only i dont have any service and under DATA it reads "fail because Radio Not Available". I have 2.15.xx radio rom installed, also tried 2.12.
Did your tryed to flash a other kernel?
I did. But the same kernel worked for me about a week before so this cant be it right?
Can this be a hardware thing if I have 3G connectivity but cant connect to 2G network??
thats not a hardware issue, sounds like a Rom problem. Test out the radios, and see which one gives you the best signal
I have tried different radios (2.08, 2.10, 2.15) different android roms (Hyperdroid 1.04, 2.01, 3.0, 5.30, MIUI gingerbread) and different WM6,5 roms. I have tried switching SIM cards. I have tried switching off ond on data connection. Have tried switching 2G/3G to 3G only and to 2G only. Nothing helps. I still get no service when I am in a 2G only service area.
Please help. Anybody?
finally, somebody with a same problem as me... i have tried to fix it for 6 month, and still can't get any 3g signal, i have tried task 29, wm 6.5, different android nand and sd rom.
but the 3g signal showed in wp7 rom, have you tried wp7?
I have not. Maybe I will. But my problem is that I don't have 2G signal - I do have good 3G signal though.
Tried to install Windows phone 7. No luck. Still no 2G signal. What does anybody think of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190180?

I'm the opposite, but did you able to browse mobile internet with the no signal?? If you can, and get 2g speed then it's not the hardware, as your phone still able to get 2g signal
Sometimes my phone can browse the net in 3g speed even with no signal, so i guess its a software problem??
Two or three times I have had G or E instead of H or 3G in the notification bar but although it shows me that it has service it wont connect to the internet neither can i take calls during that time. All the time that I have 3G or H connection i can take calls and I havent noticed that internet would be slow.
So I have almost given up hope. I have quite good 3G service where I live but still 3G is not that strong indoors and I have too much downtime so my next desperate step would be to open up my phone and see if I can find something wrong with the connectors.. I really dont want to do that..
So I got this phone from my friend asking to help him because quite recently his phone would start dropping calls and losing signal. He was running completely stock on Android 2.2 He asked if I could take a look and try to get it working. So after doing some researching in the sub I found the rooting app and decided to put CM7.1 on his phone. Everything works great now considering he couldn't get a call to go through but it only has edge and that's only after waiting a couple minutes after boot. There isn't an option in CM7 to choose WCDMA but it does have the check box for 2g only. Anyway calls go through fine now as well as texts but god Edge is so slow. WiFi works fine as well. Anyway What on earth do I do to get 3g working?
I have also done the Defy Baseband switcher, everything but T-Mobile 3.4.2 -107-9 works. The only thing I can think of doing next is having him switch out his sim card through T-mobile. If someone else has an idea I would love to hear it cause I am just spinning my wheels.
Also I did install CM7.2 and it had the option for WCDMA which forced the 3g icon but it never would do anything about data for it. It would just sit at a webpage and timeout. Anyway back at CM7.1 and waiting to see what happens.
Thanks ahead of time for the help guys.
Anyone with any other ideas or something simple I am missing?
I have a very similar problem. I have installed WhiteRabbitEddtion 1.5 for Defy+ MB526 (based on CM7.2 I think). When it tries for operate on 3G, it works for a while, then just loses the network. It looks like the receiver goes deaf or something. If I select 2G only, it seems to work fine. But then restricted to EDGE data rates -- bummer.
My network operator is Telstra (Australia) - 850/2100 MHz.
