BlueTooth OBEX/FTP/OPP on 2.x ROMS? - Hero CDMA General

Ok... did the usual search thing... haven't read or found any new information on this issue.
Considering it (BT FILE FUNCTION) to be one BIG omission on the Android platform and/or with the HTC handsets, I am interested to know if the functionality of file transfer (and whatnot) has been made available, will be made available or has been put into any of the ROMS... to ANYONE's knowledge?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

let me add on, does anyone know if SPP or HID profiles were added also?

I know damages Rom does send/recieve, stereo audio, and the basic Bluetooth stuff.
Darch legend does the same plus Bluetooth ftp.

Sorry double post.

Wow... I find it hard to think with all the Dev's here nobody has ANY insight or anything to say about the BT issue? I know the profiles have been updated for the 2.1 release, but that's about it. No word of FILE functions? Wow...
Well, in any event, I appreciate ANY word on this subject.
TIA

Yes, it appears so:

Not sure if this is widely known or not, but BT file transfer works out of the box now. I paired it with my Mac and sent a file with no add-on software. I couldn't make that work in 1.5.

Note, That is a push from the computer to the phone. I installed BT File Transfer from Market to try phone to computer...no dice. It errors out. At any rate, it's an easy way to send a wallpaper or update.zip.

Sorry for the delayed response, but that File Transfer is Bi-Directional? If so , that's awesome... Just looking for more information, thanks.

BlueSoleil solution..... come check it out !!!

This is a crack for the well know BlueSoleil stack...
all you have to do is to replace the original file with this one.
the file is located in \windows
all credits goes to DR.YAR in mobile4arab.com
I must say... Piracy is against the law, so if u like the program, buy it.
Neither I or DR.YAR are responsible for you downloading this file..
I am not using this file coz I don't use bluetooth that much...and the M$ stack is more than enough for me, but for those who are really in great need for the PAN profile, this would help.
cheers
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18537 re why this might be needed.

Forgive me for not reading through the other BlueSoleil thread, but what's the advantage of this stack over the M$ stack on the JAM?
Does it provide an Audio Gateway for the headset (i.e. Voice Command over Bluetooth, etc.)?
Hi Duke, perhaps Im blind but I couldnt find any crack file in your article. Will you pls. help me? Thx.

it shows the sender's name BTW.
I hope this will help.
I've installed the BlueSoleil stack without any problem on my MDA Compact. The problem is that neither File Explorer nor Resco File Explorer seem to be compatible with this stack. I cannot send files to another phone using this stack from these programs.
The ony way I found to send, recieve files is through FTP but not all phones support this profile. Is there a solution to this?
And when Bluetooth is switched on, the blue LED does not blink either!

yeah.. all of the things u mentioned are true.
1. FE and Resco are not compatible....
I don't know Why FE is not.. But resco is not compatible for sure.. it supports Widcomm and M$ only, maybe we can contact the developer in order to make a support for the Stack.
The only way - I know - to send using the program is though the manager i self.
2 as for the Blue LED disappearing... well I guess this was reported in the main topic about this Stack...
no solution AFAIK.
Yes I see, sorry. But as I noticed that crack was dedicated to WIN CE. Am I right?

Help – newbie with connectivity problems with my Mac

I just got this phone (HTC Wizard/MDA VArio) as a free upgrade and I spent hours last night trying to hook them both up so I can simply transfer files from one to the other. I couldn't get them to link.
Are they compatable in terms of just transfering files? I was hoping to sync the address book, calender, etc
I have done a search on this forum for things relating to Macs but I'm a bit confused with some of the topics. As you can see I'm a total novice and not very technical so I was wandering if anyone can help me out in terms of easy straightforward answers?
I'm quite familiar with Macs but I've never used PC's/windows before so if I don't get any help I may need to return this phone
Cheers in advance
To my knowledge there is not presently a way to sync the MDA with a Mac, unless of course, you have an Intel-based Mac and Bootcamp installed with a copy of XP.
In time Pocket Mac or the Missing Sync will have a menas of syncing them.
Up to this point I've been transfering my phonebook via bluetooth a few contacts at a time. This is only a temporary measure and a poor one at that.

Don't panic. The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 5 is worth looking at. It is at alpha version 9 as of this message, and it will allow you to at least get the address book to your phone. That is a huge help.

You can use Bluetooth to send and receive files... it works like a champ... though I'm on the Cingular 8125, so ymmv.
You can send CAB files via Bluetooth to install software. Some silly developers distribute .exe files, and those require some special attention (Open them in VPC, the find the CABs and send the from the Mac via Bluetooth. )
Anyway, don't send it back just yet! We're close.

Have you used Missing Sync? I have not but have heard mixed reviews -- most leaning on the negative.
I've used PocketMac and early versions messed up my address book beyond repair. In all fairness that was the original release version. More recent versions have worked perfectly.
Regardless, neither PM or MS have Windows Mobile 5 support as a stable product at this point.

I'm using Missing Sync 2.5a9 now... the alpha version, with my Cingular 8125. I'm giving it some leeway, it is alpha after all. My address book, calendar data, and tasks are all in tact.
I have no experience with PocketMac, so I can't speak to your experience with it.

Yes, and I took the risk ;-) Just be sure to read the mailing list archives before you plunk down the cash... the process is much better with a9, but it still isn't perfect.
The bottom line though is that I have all of my data on my 8125... and that rocks.
hmmmmmm....
so, on your report, i purchased missing sync. the v.2 version installed without issue. i then upgraded to the alpha and now the app won't start up -- it pops up on my screen then disappears. did you have that problem?
i've been perusing the support pages but can't find a solution.
i should rephrase that...the app starts up then quits, as in dead.
looking through their site i must say they have the worst documentation i've seen in recent years.
i've tried dumping the plist files and that doesn't seem to help.

Bluetooth Problems! Cant Receive!

Hi!
I have had this phone for a few days and have unlocked and upgraded to WM6!
I am really happy as I have just upgraded from my HTC Alpine!
My only remaining problem is Bluetooth.
A) I have to turn on Bluetooth before I can send a file within explorer.
B) I can't receive files at all! It simply says ERROR on the senders phone.
The latter is the more important one which I need a fix for ASAP. I have trawelled the web and have not seen a fix.
I have obviously made sure that my phone can be detected and to receive all incoming beams as well as pairing them. Still no luck.
I also had a look at Bluezard which looks quite good as an extra, (want to recieve files without it) but it look quite old and no longer in development, is there any other application that does the same thing that it perhaps a bit more modern?
Thanks,
Joe/Jophster
In phone settings there an icon for Beam. Check it if not already check. Then try to receive file. If already checked then try to change the sending device may be bluetooth not connecting because of any conflicts.
About sending you have to keep the bluetooth active/on because there is IR port in hermes so it will not ask you to on bluetooth.
Bluezard
Hi
Well the ROM I was using apparently had problems so I have tried a different one and will experiment. It was so easy with my HTC Apline, it is so annoying to do something so simple!
Thanks for the help!

Do you know of any others. Maybe a way to chat via bluetooth or to send multiple files. If not then Bluezard looks like a good solution.
Thanks,

ROM w/ bt keyboard support?

There is a link - probably everyone here saw it -
http://groups.google.com/group/android-platform/browse_thread/thread/73eed70fb229d7ae
I want to buy an Android phone, but I also want it to have this functionality (something that all Symbian phones have).
I'm not technical person. As I read the post in that link, I think it describes a way to modify the underlying os (root?) to get BT drivers to work.
If I read this correctly, the input methods have not been tied in to use BT keyboards (and / or mouse)
This would be huge for business users if the XDA community can get BT keyboards to work. It would allow people to leave the laptop at home (well...video out + powerpoint viewer would be needed too).
So do any ROMs have BT Keyboard support?
Currently I don't believe so but here is a start....

OK. So is it very difficult to include? From the link, it would seem that its not difficult to include...but I'm not a technical person so would not know.
If the BT Keyboard was enabled, it would be a huge thing. I mean, even just for manufacturers of the BT Keyboards...they would be able to state that their product could be used with Android!

[REQ]Bluetooth A2DP Modified lib (increase bitpool)

This thread is in response to numerous posts/requests for a fix to a bluetooth A2DP soundquality problem.
As pointed out in other posts, the libraries for Bluetooth (liba2dp.so etc.) have a setting for ‘bitpool’ which is fixed to a low value by default.
People – including myself – are experiencing 2 major issues with Bluetooth audio over A2DP protocol with default bitpool values (or so we claim) :
1) The highs tend to sound 'fuzzy' and sometimes crystalize.
2) Higher bitrate mp3s will break up as if there is a buffer problem.
As someone who produces music and owns a media company, I have a keen ear and equipment that allows me to confirm this problem at least on my end.
It should be noted that this has been brought up in various threads Eg:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16021615&postcount=664
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082220&page=2&highlight=a2dp
The purpose of this thread is to establish a genuine problem and implement a fix.
We would welcome input or any user experiences relating to the above issues.
Are we also able to determine if A2DP is piping the audio over SBC or passing MPEG audio direct to the headunit to decode which should result in much better quality.
It would be helpful if we could find some documentation on the format of the /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf file as various settings in there can help/hinder connections and audio quality a bit.
I'm all for improving the bluetooth support/quality given that I rely on it in the car for hands-free, music and navigation.
@JF-GINO You would probably have access to an oscilloscope if you're running a media company, any chance of running the output from a bluetooth connected device through that with a few sine waves to see if it is compressing/clipping the audio?
Thanks guys. I will try and send the two lib files today.
For the purposes of testing, I ask you do not try and compare the files, as obviously that could influence results...
I'll post the files in a zip and anyone interested can try
- their stock bluetooth
- file A
- file B
And make any comments they wish on quality, both absolute and relative...
