I was looking at a few a while back, but it turns out it is covered by my home insurance (both at home, abroad & while travelling). Maybe you should check that out first as mobile-only insurance really is quite expensive

Was going to say - stick it on your Home insurance, that way you'll always get the same model back (as opposed to VF insurance and them not supplying it to consumers anymore - didn't go down well on their forum!!).
I've got it with Policy Admin currently as I'm too lazy to change it (got it from Dial-A-Phone)

Thanks Guys,
Will Check the household... i know my PC is covered for up to 7k so i should have mobile phones/PDAs on there as well

if you have a "premium" bank account you may have phone insurance cover through them. If you dont pay a monthly charge, then you wont have one.

If you're using your home insurance, make sure it's covered away from home and whether you need to list its value as a "named item". Other thing to check if that if they cover charges on your sim if your phone is stolen. Call your insurance and ask them
Personnally I'm using the bundled insurance with my bank account as the combined value of what I'm getting (mobile insurance, worldwide travel insurance, car breakdown and a few other bits) is worth more than what I'm paying for the packaged account. It is worth going over the policy beforehand as they are not all equal, depending on who your bank arranges cover with. Mine for instance will cover handsets up to £600, accessories, unauthorised calls etc while some others have a lower limit for handsets and do not cover accessories.

I had an Advantage Gold account with NatWest - wouldn't touch my old N97, my GFs BlackBerry or my HD2 as they're 'too expensive' (N97) and 'we don't insure PDAs' (HD2 & BB)
Best get it on home cover

Yeah as I said, it depends, worth checking
Mine (through Smile) states:
Phones are covered up to the lower of the
current value or an original retail value of £600, including VAT.
The handset must be a hand-held electronic device for which its
main use is for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS
text messages and data
So I can't see them arguing about the HD2

hehe, me neither, to be fair, only bug i've seen is the sleep of death, and even that has been cured.

I have insurance from my operator, because im covered for anything.

Hmm, my wife & I have a joint NW Gold account & we have just insured our handsets (the mrs has a w995) via the website. all went through fine, the only caveat being that the insurance doesn't come into force until 21 days after the date of taking out the cover. All the drop down boxes even had a section for the HD2 as well. May well be worth having another try?

The problem with sticking it on your home insurance is that it could really balloon your premiums up if you do have an accident - no claims is well worth having, especially if you have expensive home/contents to start with (like me, in conservation area, grrrr).
A separate policy isn't affected as much.

I have mine with NW Advantage Gold account

Mines with O2 for £4.99 a month

I did wonder if I could do it that way - I may look into it further over the weekend. I think it would cover the device itself if it were stolen as I do have insurance that covers stuff out of the house - laptop, rings etc. but I would think it would probably only be the cost of the device and not neccesarily the cost of replacing it - not sure. Also - what happens if your phone is used - will your insurance cover this?
don't worry about somebody using it - it would probably be locked up anyway

daft question though. If I rely on household insurance and forget about the phone company type insurance - it the phone was stolen, presumably I could stop the sim but them wouldn;t I be left with no SIM but a contract still running. Am I being daft or is there a way round this.
Check with T-Mobile. They would probably block the IMEI ie the actual device and issue you with another SIM
I did enquire about the event of it being stolen and the insurance company (churchill) said to make a note of the IMEI and SIM number etc...
..You have to get it sorted with the phone company as insurance doesnt cover the cost of any unauthorised calls if your phone gets nicked. AFAIK O2 says liability is on you (the customer) if the phone is used before its blocked....kinda crap but if your phone IS nicked you would report it pretty darn quick.

Insurance for Cingular 8525

Hi,
Cingular will not insure this. Anybody can recommend a 3rd party insurance to cover this phone. Any experience in dealing with them as far as fast claims and other info is most welcome.
Thank you.
Damn it doesn't? Cingular 8125 did, I remember mine got damage and they sent me a replacement for it.

You're good for one year as far as Cingular warranty is concerned.
The only reason I'm get from phones from a carrier.
I've had three replacement HP6515 and one replacement 8125.
PDA phones just have problems, screen alignment, buttons not working, freezing, stuck headphone tips e.g.
Cingular told me the same thing. I believe this is new. They used to insure smartphones, but now they are not. I better be careful with my full priced 8525!!
cingular has never carried insurance on their smartphone, i remember not being able to get one for my moto mpx220. There is a 1 year warranty period but that only covers defects... HOWEVER there is a website that i know of and they are trustworthy that will sell sperate insurance on mobile devices, phones/laptops, etc..

Really? It must of been Sprint and Verizon only then. I know that for sure. They charge ~$6 per month for insurance. I guess Cingular never did that. I have recently switched back.

i have been with cingular since 2000 (swbell wireless back then) and they have never offered insurance for high end phones.. which i think is lame.. they only offer insurance on your low end phones and its like $4 a month. why in the hell would i want insurance on a $100 phone then pay $50 for a deductable.. doesnt make sense. your only options is a 3rd party, i know some homeowners insurance will cover it, but then you are talking an even higher deductable..
i havent personally used safeware.com but read some really good reviews on them somewhere. And i do plan on using them one of these days..
I had my 8125 insured with Safeware. I just got my check now for it, about 1.5 months after the claim was made. I had insured it for $500, and I got the full $500. They were pokey, and I had to call them constantly to get updates, but they did do what they said they would. So I'll keep my insurance with them..
Pick up my 8525 tomorrow.. I dunno why, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack when it comes to the 8525 in the detroit area..

Yeah, I've been without my PDA phone for far too long. Can any of you guys imagine getting stuck with using a bloody Motorola C139 for a month and a half? For a temporary use for phone, it's great, but long term use, no thanks..
I'm not surprised that the retails stores are having a hard time getting them. What I'm wondering is if it's a supply not meeting the demand problem, or online resalers just happened to be first in line in getting them.. I guess I was lucky.. The third store I called had one, and it was their last one. My buddy who bought one spent a Saturday calling like 10 different stores or something, no luck. Then he ended up calling a shop just south of where I live and managed to get one.. He loves it..
So, now, I can't wait to get it. I'm ready to start hacking it to bits the best I can.. And maybe this one I won't drop and break.
yeah
HTC the company gives u a 1 year warrenty on products as long as it is not "ur fault" PDA fones have alot of problems, most can be fixed with help from these forums alot can't be. I've had my 8125 7 months now and i just needed it to get replaced. I had these problems:
Screen alignment : (fixed by a patch of loosening screws on the back of the screen)
Stylus not staying in: (placing a towel ontop of the unit and putting alot of weight but not enuf to break the unit on it for overnight)
Unreponsive keys on the keyboard: ( i just got used to dealing wit em )
Touch screen gives out: (time for replacement)
Called up the number supplied by a cingular representative and they ensured me of HTC's warrently sent me a replacement fone and everything with no questions asked accept about my account and the IMEI number and some confirmation things you need to do on the fone. The only thing I didnt like about the replacement fone is that it didnt come with a battery or new battery case cover.

that sounds like cingular's warranty by mail (HTC wouldnt have asked about your account, maybe only proof of purchase). Yes the 1yr warranty is great if its not your fault.. but what do you do if it is your fault? That is what we are covering on this thread. Most cell providers offer some kind of insurance on the cheaper "dumb" phones but not the expensive smart phones (this still dont make sense to me). So in order to insure your device you need to seek a 3rd party such as safeware. They will also fix your phone or send you a check in the event your phone is damaged past the 1 year manufacturer warranty..
**edit**
Im not plugging safeware.. they are just the only 3rd party i know that provides insurance on this level for mobile devices

yes shogun your right, cingular pointed me to www.safeware.com
they have insurance there for the PDA fones but its quite expensive and i frankly think it isnt worth it at all.
im not sure how much it is now but it was like $25 deposit and if your fone is stolen you gatta pay some outrageous fee of like 250-350 dollars depending on the device instead of the norm 50 bucks.
i dunno how much it is now i havent bothered looking. heres a website tho since i kno thats what u lookin for. hope it helps.
I'll tell you what then, tell me where you live, I'll steal your phone, and you tell me if it was worth it or not, especially if you don't have the funds available to replace it right away.
Sorry, but for some poeple, it's worth it. I paid $60 a year for my 8125. Not even six months after taking out the policy, I broke my 8125 beyond repair. They gave me a check for $500 (as that's what I was insured up to when I crated the policy). Okay, sure, it took a little while, but considering I only spend $60 to replace it, it was worth it.
Eventually, when I become rich and can afford to drop $500 to replace my phone without thinking twice, it won't be a problem (hell, even if I were rich, $500 phone, $60 per year, it gets destroyed, I ultimately only end up paying $60 to replace it).. Until then, I like having that kind of protection that Cingular doesn't offer.
One of the claims to fame for Safeware is that there's no deductible, and that they cover your device.
I was thinking that someone had mentioned another site besides safeware.com in this thread, but now i don't see it. Was I seeing things or did someone edit their post?
I too had my 8125 insured with safeware and switched mid-year to my 8525 when I upgraded, but if you go to the safeware.com site now you won't find a selection for a PDA device like they used to have. I wonder if they are no longer offering new policies on equipment like ours? I thought the cost was reasonable for the coverage provided (about $60-70) for a year, but it would be a shame if they aren't offering insurance products any longer on PDA devices.
safeware
I got safeware. $500 insurance with no deductible for $60 / yr.
better than my homeowners could do. better than lockline (cingular) because no deductible. covers memory card too.
good luck.

insurance

I just got my TYTN II and its great. Considering the amount i paid for the phone, and the fact that i bought it because i broke the screen on my 8525, im thinking i should get insurance for it.
Does anyone have insurance for the phone? If so how much does it cost? Have you replaced a phone with them before? Any recommendations would be great! Thanks.

are there any US companies that will do cell insurance?? safeware.com used to but dont anymore..
I used http://www.squaretrade.com to insure my TyTn II.
i contacted safeware to see if they would offer insurance for this phone... when i emailed them, i gave all the known names for the device, kiaser, tytn II, 8925 (TILT), etc.... and the response i got was scary.. see if you can catch the scary part!
We would like to thank for the inquiry. Unfortunately we do not currently offer coverage for the 8925, but we are strongly considering it. We are researching the ability to repair the unit, and we are investigating repair depot options at this time. We will be more than happy to collect your contact information, and you will be contacted when we begin offering coverage for the iPhone. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I paid $829 for my TyTN II, SquareTrade's quote is $213.99 for 3 Years with ADP (accidental drop and spill coverage). I've never insured a phone and am now on the fence. I like this phone as it's just about perfect. I can't think of what model would make me jump in the next 12/24 months, well, if it was slightly thinner with a bigger Transreflective-VGA screen I'd go again

Really? I have two PDAs insured with them (the 8525 and 8125). Cost me about $60 a year for $500 coverage on each phone. Recently, I added my Tilt to the account. Haven't yet heard from them. I added the new phone online at their web site. I hope they haven't dropped this service.

Probably with Protect your bubble.
Think they quote £5.99/month.
Either that or go with whoever T-Mobile UK endorses depending on price.

Yeah i just checked PYB and its 5.99 and an extra £1 to also cover loss.
When i ordered my upgrade from t-mobile they offered me insurance for £10p/m and from what you said I'm guessing that would just be from a company they use. She also asked if i had insurance from elsewhere when i declined the offer so I'm guessing that means they could be willing to reduce their premium.
I'm guessing PYB is a reliable company to use though so might just go for that...

But it doesn't include loss or theft. Only covers damage. Looking at the terms, they will repair when possible, else will replace in store or next day if stock isn't available. Guess if you do break your phone, best hope it's broken beyond repair so it gets replaced rather than repaired!
I`m going direct with T-Mobile for insurance
It`s 10 quid per month but covers loss, theft and damage and also abroad! you can also backup your photos and contacts and they will send a new phone out within 24hr with the pics and contacts you backed up, seems pretty good to me!
I heard bad things about 3rd party insurance that they take ages to pay out so your left with no phone! just best to go direct with your provider

If its the HTC One it will be replaced given how difficult it looks to repair on iFixit.
What about squaretrade warranty.
It's £46.99 for 2 years with accident protection. £50 excess on mobiles.
Mines with my bank Nationwide... gives awesome cover, far better than anything you can buy standalone. Entire account costs me £10 a month and get loads of other things with it.
Okay, getting this phone from O2 whose insurance is £12.50
£60 excess for first, then £120 for each thereafter which is vry steep.
Will be cancelling and finding an alternative, do we have any recommendations?

I've heard many horror stories about Insurance2go although my experience with them has been good. Damaged my Galaxy S2 screen when I dropped it and it hit the side of my table. All they asked for was proof I owned the phone and proof that the phone had been used to make calls or texts the day before the incident (to stop fraud). Sent them my phone, paid the excess and that was it. Took a total of 5 days

I had the lite cover which excludes loss (the terms for loss are simply foolish). Everything went smoothly. Most phones companies insurance is off the charts, the positive is that a lot of them guarantee you a new phone within 48 hours
Thats what you pay for really isn't it!
Just thinking about O2 insurance, its £245 over two years! which if i have no issues with is a massive waste.
I still think id opt for the policy with loss, it's still half the price of O2, there just in case too

Yeah you'll still be saving a load of money. I'd rather wait a few days and get my phone repaired at a cheaper cost personally than pay a premium for a 2 day guarantee

Project Fi Device Protection $5/month - ugh are you kidding me?!?

So I went with the optional $5/month Project Fi "Device Protection" when I bought my 128GB Pixel XL.
Then I dropped the phone and broke the back glass, which is apparently impossible to replace because the glass isn't available anywhere unless you want to pay someone like $150 to replace it for you. It's not a DIY option, you can't buy the glass.
So I decided to use my Device Protection which has a $100+ deductible.
But the thing is, they will ONLY replace your phone if they can first place a hold on your credit card for the full price of the phone.
You cannot simply send them the phone, then wait for them to send you a replacement back.
They ONLY do the advance replacement where they send you a phone and THEN you send them your old phone.
Not everyone has $900 freaking dollars available in credit or in their bank to allow for that hold to be placed.
WTF kind of stupid policy is this.
Sorry to vent but I feel this is something folks should know about before buying from Project Fi instead of through Google themselves, where my replacement would have gone though a different company with more relaxed replacement policies.
Ugh.
Googles logistics are terrible. Thats why they will never be a feasible replacement for brick and mortar carrier stores if they don't make some changes.
If they send a phone before you send one back, most companies put a credit hold on it. I have had that policy applied many times most recently when my wife had a replacement done on a Motorola/Lenovo product. It sucks, but it is standard procedure.

That's not the problem, Man.
The problem is that is their ONLY available method.
They refuse to let you ship them the phone and then send you a replacement AFTER they receive delivery of your phone.
So, it's either have $900 burning a hole in your pocket (CC or bank account) or you don't get to warranty your phone.
The $900 CC thing can't be that big a deal, I put very little on my cards and they give me large limits. The warranty company will remove the charges pretty quick (in my experience) so just make sure you don't do this the last week of your billing period and it's all good. Most people want a new phone pretty quick so it doesn't surprise me that this is their only option. I think with my wife's Moto we were given 2 options, the pay and swap and the send it to us and when we get around to it (4-6 weeks) we will repair it and send it back. So we really only had one option because waiting wasn't a viable option. Most places I have dealt with won't do the you send us one and we will send one back because it makes them liable for the phone so that's why they do the pay and swap.

Through Project Fi or Google Store?
Normal warranty or Device Protection plan?
Through store and normal warranty..
Edit: device is over heating..
Attached is the email..
They don't take the money, they just make sure you have it available in case you run off with the device. Even if it's at the end of your billing cycle. It remains pending and never hits your balance. Don't Make this a bigger deal than it is. Just get the new device, send back the old one and forget it. Personally I'd much rather do it that way than waiting while I have no phone.

yeah I bought the insurance/coverage through the store. ours was a one-time payment where his is a recurring charge.
I've claimed insurance through AT&T ('09 - Asurion), Sprint and Tmo (2010 - Asurion), VZW (2012 - Asurion) and none of them placed a hold on my credit card. I was a college student at the time and could barely afford the deductible. That's a terrible policy from Project Fi
In the exact same situation, i was with project fi at the time, but since i wanted to finance it (and keep insurnace on it if i switched) i bought it from the google store with protection. A little time goes by and (besides all the small problems my device has) i ended up putting a single crack in the back glass much like yours.
I called, and again same as you, they told me if i wanted to replace the device they would need to place a hold of 799 on a card. I barely ever keep money on my card, so this was unreasonable. they repeatedly told me that this was the only way the warranty exchange could work.
A few days later and an idea popped into my head "can they place a hold on the same card/account that i financed my phone with?". so i called and asked, only to find out there was indeed an alternative way to do the exchange, which was sending mine first then receiving the new one.
See, I'm in the exact opposite situation. I purchased my device through Verizon and I'm having some hardware issues, so I need a replacement. If I get the replacement from Verizon, they will ship the phone first and put a hold on the account until I send one back, but I might get a phone with 7.1.1+ on it therefore not being able to unlock it. So I went to Google, they will fix/replace the phone under warranty and get me an unlockable device. However, they will not send me a new phone until my phone has been received by them (I don't want to go a week without my phone, I own no other Verizon devices). They said that since I don't have an account for them to put a hold on, they cannot do the advance replacement. I offered to set up an account and give my credit card to place the hold on and they told me that they cannot create an account. It only gets created when you purchase the device.

No dude, it doesn't go through unless you have the $900 balance already available.
So if your credit card doesn't have $900 available credit, or your bank account doesn't have $900 available cash, then the "pend" doesn't go through and you're SOL.
Don't make it a bigger deal than it is?!?
Whatever.

Not to mention after the fact those funds aren't accessible until they clear.

That's my assumption but I wasn't sure so I didn't include that factoid.
I wish I could say I have $900 on all my cards but with a huge mortgage, car payment and other stuff going on.... well, you know.

Whether you have it or not it doesn't really change the absurdity of that being the option they offer when you are already paying for insurance and a deductible.
