New to rooting, need some direction. - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I apologize in advance for being a noob but i want to learn how to root my MyTouch and i really haven't found a clear answer anywhere on here.
I have seen a few videos and how-to's that sort of helped, but i think i get the general idea and want to know if i am doing it right.
Once i downgrade to 1.5, i just put the flashrec-20090815.apk and a zip file of a rom onto the sd card then open them with linda file manager? (using 1-click method)
Thanks.

check out cyanogens wiki, link above.
make sure to follow the directions for HTC MAGIC, this is VERY important..
i find this to be the easiest to follow method. you will have to determine if you have a 32B or 32A and then follow the instructions accordingly.. if you have a mythouch 3g from tmobile you will have a 32B, if not then follow the instructions to determine which you have..
best of luck
oh this guide will lead you to installing cyan mod, but once you get root you can install any rom

Instructions here are finally well laid out, but lets say i were to install a different 32B rom, where should i stop? and does it matter what spl or radio i have?
Thanks.

Try this. It's easy to follow with a video.

Ask me als you need somthing to know from me...
Follow the steps exactly as outlined here:
http :// wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
Please note, you have a perfect SPL, use google or the forum search function to find out more about it. This essentially means you need to create a goldcard (which is actually really easy)
In the above link (cyanogen's update guide) you basically only need to downgrade you phone to 1.5 using the COC10 build of sappimg.nbh (a link to this file is posted in cyanogen's guide), then flash cyanogen's recovery image using flashrec, the reboot into recovery mode and flash DRC83_base_defanged.zip and update-cm-4.2.x-signed.zip.
I have the same specs as you and it worked quite well. The only part that doesn't work is Amon_Ra's recovery image, because of the perfect SPL I think.
Good luck
you did it this way to?
and what is a perfect SPL ? And where to find it?
EDIT 1: can this help?: /showthread.php?t=548218 ( put it behind forum.xda-developers.com)
EDIT 2: which rom is the best?
EDIT 3: Can you exactly tell me the complete sequence of steps or URLS with a message written out all the steps?
I`m not good at English so I use google translate.
You already don't understand the reply. You cannot rely on a translator to read all the technical issues. I would suggest you find a friend or someone who knows English so that he or she can explain exactly what Tom4332 said.

I'm having the same problem, but it has nothing to do with the fact you have a 32B board. My last MT3G was a 32B, rooted with ease. However, T-mobile just sent me a replacement under warranty. Still a 32B, but with a different SPL. Its a perfected SPL 1.33.0007. I have not been able to root this yet and I've tried every method possible. The goldcard method is supposed to be the only way to root this as of right now, but it didn't work for me. I tried multiple SD cards and converted them to goldcards. I tried multiple SAPPimg files. Both zip and nbh files. No go. Some have claimed to have rooted this SPL but never seem to give much information as to how they did it, which makes me wonder. Anyway, check your SPL, post your specs on here and I'll let you know what can be done.
I have rooted that spl

I PMed you, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
here is the sappimg i used(since no1 ever posts it)..aslo when makin ur gold card go 4rm line 0000 to 0170 that is what really messes up the card if done wrong!! if u need a link to the post let me know..i will help as much as i can
P.S. sdcard must be inside phone to get the info you need to make the goldcard.
Edit: where should i upload it?
check theunlockr.com
they have step by step instruction as to how root and flash your phone. They also have videos in case you are not sure if you are doing it right or wrong.

[Q] Lost in the massive amounts of info, please help

So, I rooted my fiances Mytouch 3G original and it's been so long I don't remember what I did. Now theres a one click methods, different numbers 32a and 32b and there's radios and all this other stuff I didn't have to worry about then (I think)
I updated her to the Betamod AOSP using the same method as I would do with my Vibrant and well it works, but the text messaging dictionary is in German and the battery life was horrible so I wanna take her to Yoshi 1.0 RC5.1, so I'm doing all this research to make sure I do it right (part of me wants to brick it so she'll get a new phone, she hates spending money on phones when they work) and she's overdue for a full upgrade.
I'm reading these guides and all these other things and I keep linking and linking and linking and it's kind of overwhelming. I think I had 6 or 7 tabs open before I decided to just start a thread. I wasn't sure if the threads I was reading applied to me. It was very confusing.
Can someone please just point me to the right direction.
I'm assuming with the research and reading I've done is that she needs the 32b roms and her radio and kernal I will have to look at when she gets home. I may need help finding that info, but please let me try and report it first.
I'm sorry if this is an annoying noob post, but if you guys can give me exactly what I need I will read about it.

If it is a 32b you will need to update spl and radio but a link to a guide to that is in the ginger yoshi op. Everthing you need should be in the ginger yoshi op in fact. You can use Amon_Ra for the ext4 part, the thread for installing that is in the same forum as yoshi's just a few threads up. Hope that helps.
Get us the fastboot info and we'll get you taken care of. Is the phone still rooted?

Thanks guys, here's her HBOOT info
32b and S-on
Hboot 1.33.0006
CPLD - 10
Radio 2.22.23.02
I don't know if you need anything else, but yes the phone is still rooted
I'll defer to DonJuan's expertise here but, I think you sould be fine following Yoshi's OP. Ginger Yoshi requires the new radio/spl combo but the steps are all there. If I understand correctly the ext partition is optional but highly recommended and will be required in future releases.
Okay before I proceed, I downloaded
update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G
Ohsaka-SuperWipe_v2
radio
hboot
These are zips except the Recovery file. I'm gonna put them all on my SD card and flash them in recovery. Then I'm gonna flash the rom.
Good?
Superwipe first
Recovery second
hboot third
engineering hboot fourth
Radio 5th
Then the ROM
Wait, actually where did you get the hboot/radio files from? Need to make sure they're the right one's, but I actually think you may be on the right track.
If I'm not mistaken you shouldn't need the engineering spl if you are going to flash the radio and spl via recovery, you only need it if you are going to use fastboot to install them.
So (Again if I'm not mistaken):
1. Recovery
2. Superwipe
3. Radio
4. Hboot
5. Rom
The guide I used to upgrade my radio/spl seemed simplest, worked great. Sorry I'm not allowed to post links here yet but it is at cyanogenmod.com search for a thread called New radio dream +15MB EXTRA RAM! for HTC DREAM
Look for post by -Stevo- on page 2, he does "Amazing" work.

Should be all set then.
Well did the steps and bricked the phone, it's on an endless loop, it won't flash the ROM for some reason. So I'm happy, we're picking up a new HD7 tomorrow. LOL, I got my wish.
I booted into recovery, did a nandroid, flashed super wipe, flashed radio, flashed Hboot, flashed rom and rom gave me an error. Have no other rom on SD card so I can't do anything else. Nandroid restore doesn't do what I need it to do and won't fix the problem.
Here's what my Hboot says now
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-ON G
HBOOT 1.33.0013d
CPLD 10
Radio 2.22.27.08
Oct 21 2009
***Edit***
I forgot to wipe cache before installing ROM, dammit everything is fine! She's asleep now, so maybe I shouldn't tell her the mytouch is working now.

Can't do anything in recovery mode... going crazy!

okay I'm trying to root and install cyanogenmod on my phone using these directions... from wiki cyanogenmod...when I get down to flashing radio, I enter recovery mode and can't do anything. Just the phone and exclamation point... pls help its driving me crazy!!
not sure what guide you are following but you flash radio from fastboot not recovery.
In order to flash radio using zip file (not recommended, because it can brick your phone) you'll have to flash Amon RA.
The best method is to use the fastboot as Sleepy2 mentioned.
Thanks for the replies guys. I thought I had actually flashed Amon RA. Can anyone post link on how to use fastboot. All this searching is driving me crazy. I'm trying to get it rooted so I can get rid of it.
At this point I have to do something. I downgraded to 1.0 as cyanogenmod instructuctioins say, but thats about all I have accomplished. I phone was so much easier to jailbreak and unlock

We could go along like this forever but I am already getting bored with it. So how about you provide some information.
What guide are you following?
What is your current SPL and Radio?
What recovery do you currently have?
lulz... nevermind, I'm slowly getting it... I'm not done yet.. seems like I go from one problem to another though. I'm starting over and trying it again. Thanks so much though, I'm sure I'll have more questions.

@ jnralp00 - Please provide the information requested, so we can help you better.
i've been there before.. not sure if you figured it out yet but if you still using recovery to root follow this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR0HpUVv-BY i used this back when i didnt understand fastboot and it was actually real simple. just note that if your on 1.6 you need to downgrade to 1.5 theres a link on how to do that in the description of that video.. and also when you get the G1update.zip from that link you need to rename to update.zip (just delete G1 from the title) and also after you complete that method you need to flash the Danger spl which you can find 100's of links on how to do that here on xda.
on a second note: AFTER you flash "danger spl" there is a simple way to get your G1 to the current radio and hboot 2.22.28.25, 1.33.0013d also by using recovery.. i know its not recommended by most devs but if your unsure of fastboot and adb and stuff i would use it.. just be careful and follow directions exact!! remember you need the danger spl first before upgrading your radio or you can seriously brick your phone and that would just suck!!
hope this helps and if you have any questions at all feel free to ask before you do something your unsure of.. i will be more than happy to guide you in the right direction..

Please HELP With T-Mobile myTouch 3G...

I purchased a myTouch 3G online last week. I sadly updated to the Android 2.2.1 and it makes my phone VERY SLOW and VERY SLUGGISH! I want my phone back to the original cupcake 1.5 I believe it is or after doing further research I want it to be the Donut 1.6 that I have heard so many good things about it.
Unless someone suggests something else. I just want a phone that ISN'T SLUGGISH and that will run smoothly and where I will be able to download and install the Android Apps & Games.
Here are my phone specs according to boot up:
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-On G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (Sapp30000)
CPLD-10
Radio-2.22.28.25
Oct 21 2009,22:33:27
I have tried to go back to factory settings and that doesn't work. I tried to doing the sappimg.nbh and get the "Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot device?" message. Is there ANYTHING I can do that is simple and uncomplicated?
I am not phone smart (better with computers) so PLEASE be patient and be nice to me. I have never owned a smartphone until now so I don't know all the technical terms for it so please make instructions idiot proof.
PLEASE HELP! I have researched and the only thing I have found is to do what everyone is calling the "Gold Card Method" which I am really trying to avoid if at all possible. Thanks so much!
Are you rooted ?
I don't know if it is rooted. I haven't done anything to it since I received it last week other then update it to Android 2.2.1 according to the phone.
Follow my guide, found in my signature, to root, get custom recovery and eng spl.
Then post here once you are done.
If the androot application does not work for your device, then use this tool to get root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Sorry I don't mean to sound like a complete and total idiot but which guide would I be following in your signature? How will I know if the androot application works?
Sorry for all the DUMB questions and I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to help me out and explain everything to me.
No problem.
On each of my posts, you see a line on the bottom. Below that line you see 4 links, E.g
APK(s) Installer tool
HTC Magic: 4 easy steps ROOT guide
......
All the tekst below the line is called a signature and is displayed on every post a member makes.
Only ONE of them is a link to a guide, guess which one :0)
In that guide, you will use an application called "Androot". Once you run it, it will try to root the phone for you. If it does not succeed, then try the superOneClick tool i referenced to earlier and continue the guide skipping the root section.
In your HTC Magic: 4 easy steps ROOT guide it states that it won't work for the new 2.2.1 version which is what I have. Am I in trouble if I try this and it "bricks" (whatever that means!) my phone???
Dude... if you are unsure, then do the research before you continue.
That guide was made like 1 year ago... i can't remember all the details.
That's why i made the ref for superOneClick.
Use the superOneClick tool and continue with the app skipping the root section.
AGAIN, if you are unsure, then don't do anything and research before you continue.
Watch theunlockr.com video of how to root using superoneclick
