Freeware video converter DiVX to Nexus One native resolution - Nexus One General

Hi,
I've looked around for freeware converters (Super, etc) that will convert my huge collection of Divx/Avi movies to Nexus One compatible files that also fully fit the native resolution.
I've looked around and found nothing that satisfies my need. Super which most people have recommended thus far produces very blocky video.
Thanks for your help!

I'm not smart so I'm probably misunderstanding your question. But if you're asking for a good pc program to convert files on your computer to files payable on your nexus, I use doubletwist. I just click and drag and it converts most of the time. Bit its pretty well known which is why I'm assuming I completely missed the gravamen of your inquiry

Handbrake
I use Handbrake succesfully in Ubuntu. It also works on Mac & Windows. You can queue files to be converted. Choose the Apple > Iphone & Ipod touch prfile on the menu on the right.
Search for Handbrake, the domain name ends in .fr. Can't post it directly as i am new here

Handbrake is where it's at.

I use Handbrake also, start as suggested with the iPhone settings then I wind with image size up to the biggest within 800x500... (N1 screen size..)
You CAN tell the difference between handbrake'd for iPhone quality & Handbraked for N1 quality, even with my 62yr-old eyes...(as long as the original was good enuf, eg a well-shot DVD). Seems to convert most things, flash movies, avi's, etc etc...
Cheers!
Lodger

Try the HD Encoder witch is found here in the forum to. Converts everything with a click to mp4 and a good resolution for the N1.

I haven't tried Doubletwist, though I like what the second poster said, so I'll give it a try. That being said, I had pretty good results by using "Any Video Converter". Just Google it... there are different profiles you can use as well, such as iPod, etc. It worked well with the G1 at least...

format factory if you are on windows is excellent

What settings do you guys suggest for the best quality/size ratio?
For those of you using Handbrake, is it normal for it to take over 2.5 hours to encode a movie that is only 1 hour and 50 minutes long?

your computer's cpu and ram will factor into the converting
i'm on a amd phenom II x4 955 (3.20ghz) w/ 6gb ram
converted 5 files, roughly 1:40min, in 23min using any video converter (using google/android setting @ 800x480 codec x264)

I'm running a laptop with a Intel Core2 Duo 1.86ghz and 3gb of RAM... but I was streaming Hulu, which I suppose could have factored into it.
Still...not the powerhouse you have.

i've had problems encoding a movie using handbrake, and problems encoding same movie using doubletwist. i'm trying handbrake again now using a different movie. i'm hoping that it will work this time.
i suspect using terminal commands, conversion could be done with ffmpeg without too much problem. however, i don't know what the proper command line architecture would be. i like ubuntu, but i'm still pretty much a command line newb, and much of the terminal commanding i do (like an idiot, but at least i only go to trusted sources) is copy paste. i have little idea of what many of the options are actually doing

and as for encoding times, it will totally depend on your cpu and ram, which is why encoding is a solid benchmarking tool for new cpus.
thankfully, the hyperthreaded i7 920 at 3.8ghz and 6gigs of 1600mhz ram mean i can encode a 2 hour movie in about 11minutes

11 minutes?! I'd be happy with three times that, lol... oh well. Maybe after I graduate law school and can afford another computer.

yep. just converted and put 3 movies on, grand total about 40 minutes. shaun of the dead, 310 to yuma, and iron man, all ready for my flight to sxsw tomorrow
seriously though, if you can scrape some cash together, build it yourself. my rig cost me 1300 in parts, w/o the rebates. fastest thing i've ever played with, personally. i could build a faster one with more dough, naturally, but mine will suffice for a minute or 2, and is ready to go for upgrades. plays any game maxed out at 1920x1200 (yes, including crysis), and still has 2 open pci-e 16 ports, 5 open satas. windows 7 experience score 7.7 (out of 7.9) on ram and cpu.
btw, handbrake seems to be okay, with the right settings. now i just need a 32 gig sd card, instead of the 16...too much music, keeping me from putting many movies on

LOL, just started encode on ratatoullie. eta, 7m 26s

Oh when I have the cash I'll definitely be spending the money on tech. But first, I have two more semesters of law school..then moving to Maryland..taking bar review courses and the exam, and then hopefully finding a job! ;-)
I'll have to make do with my laptop for now...

Any Video Converter Pro gives awesome quailty, especially if it is from an HD source.
But Any Video Converter is kind of slow. I use an old laptop to do my converting and it often takes 6 hours covert a movie to mp4. The laptop is almost 3 years old, has a 2 ghz dual core processor and 2 gb of ram.
Not nearly the power house some of you guys have. Yea I know i need a computer upgrade.

[Off Topic] I need help finding a new laptop!

Ok I need a new laptop as my 17" Pavillion dv9410us is starting to die.
what I'm looking for.
1080p or 1080p capable display.
Blu Ray Drive.
15.5" - 18.8" screen
Lots of storage (needs lots of room for all those roms xD)
full size keyboard.
Good hardriver & videocard.
64bit.
I'll be using it for light gaming, doing stuff to my hero, and Video & Audio editing.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is what a Quad Core is generally used for. I might do a little multitasking.
My budget is $1000 try to keep it under that, but I'll take a look at stuff up to 1.1k, but no higher.
Thanks, oh yah OS doesn't matter I'm going to put Win 7 Ultimate 64bit or Linux when I get it.
Do not get anything with an intel chipset. I dont care if its a 5.0 ghz quad core laptop. The reason being is because Intel has generic graphic drivers also infamously responsible for the intel 945 chipset which is subpar Geforce 2 mx 4000 quality graphics. When looking for laptops always get Nvidia or Ati chipsets with modern graphics cards inside them such as the Ati HD series or Geforce 9 or Geforce GTX series video cards. If you end up with intel chipsets you will have a bottlenecked PC. I dont care what anyone else says to you if you get a intel chipset you just wasted money lol.
Gotta agree with him, ATI is the way to go. I'd recommend an HP laptop, just because..... they don't suck as much as Dell or others.

i have the Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i5 Processor G60JX-RBBX05
its got everything but the blue ray its a beast of a laptop for 899 check bestbuy
If you are willing to spend some decent money, I can highly recommend a Sager. I got a NP8690 and have had no problems with it, and it plays everything I throw at it on max (L4D2, BC2, SC:C, etc.) I spent just about 2 grand and got a 820QM processor, 8gb of memory, a 5870M (dx11 graphics card).
Best laptop I have ever used, I doubt I will ever buy from a mainstream (dell, apple, hp) company again. ODM companies are the way to go.
Edit: And if I can speak from personal experience for a minute here, while I don't actually have anything against HP, they were the highest percentage of laptops I fixed during this past year at college. That could be that the people that tend to use them are idiots, or that there are more of them floating around, or it could be that they just suck. I don't know. Just saying. Never had one for myself, so I can't really say.
edit2: sorry, I missed the part about your budget. But I still think Sager is worth a gander, they have really REALLY great machines.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite A505-6033 that I got at Best Buy (A505 also available elsewhere). It's got an Intel chipset, but it's also got nVidia mobile graphics card that runs the games I've thrown at it so far very well. Those games would be Warhammer, Ultima Online (lol), and....well I guess that's it

I really wanted a 1080p so I can watch 1080p Movies on my laptop
I was looking at A Sony Vaio Laptop that was 1080p.
So should I be looking at an ATI processor, and an Nvidia GPU?
This one is 1080p and I liked it, the screen was a little small though.

Bang for the buck you are still better off with Intel processor and Nvidia graphics. Intel is still ahead of AMD in the processor dept...I am hoping AMD will come back as I was a big fan until the dual and quad core's from Intel came out and just smoked em......
I got this in March and have been very happy with it.

I'm really liking the Asus, butt my friends over at Tech geeks online said that if I disable my page file it wont matter. He said I'd only experience slow deleting & file moving.
If someone can find me one with the Asus specs but sata I'd love them.
Blu ray is now optional.
Um.. dont ever disable the page file system.. Unless you have 8gb of ram you should always keep your pagefile even if you disable it and use a 8gb flash drive for swap you still need a swap no matter what. They probably suggested that you disable pagefile because you are possibly getting 8gb of ram with your laptop. Even then, there is no reliable reason why the pagefile should be disabled its there for a reason.

My old N95 could do it so I suppose Hero can as well... That said N95 had a custom dedicated graphic chip and Hero's Adreno engine's integrated into CPU and not as powerfull, but everything else seems to be much more than N95 has, so some kind of compensation should be possible to get the camera to record 640x480.
I don's see anyone ever giving a shot at it, though. They're too busy cooking ROMs. ^__^
oh well, i'm happy with 2.1
maybe audio recording codec can be improved, i don't know how, but a rom that include this feature will be much appreciated as it would enable a "new" usage of hero.

Correction 720p WITH froyo. Best of both worlds.
the recording isn't the issue..It's the saving .
Our Hero doesn't has the power to compress the video to anything worth watching if you go above 352x288... the framerate is already low as it is.
So in _theory_ you could make a 640x480, 1280x720 or even higher capture tool. But it has nowhere to dump it's data.
Anything compression scheme that has low enough cpu requirements, probably generates too much bandwidth to be writable, even if you have a high-speed SD card. And I'm ignoring the storage-requirements with this.
Use the NDK to create a simple MJPEG or HuffyUV saver... and write an Android app that uses that NDK library to compress raw 640x480 images and write it to the SD card in any workable format.
I don't know if this works, I don't even know if the SDK exposes direct-camera access.. if it worked, the amount of data generated would be a couple of MB's for just a few seconds of video.
Doesn't sound usable, so it doesn't sound wise to invest the time.
A 'kernel hack' is out of the question with the Hero, I hope you guys realize that thinking a hack like that could work on the Hero is just plain stupid.

Well, the legend and hero are the same Cpu architect actually. So the 600mhz 7227 in the legend is almost the same as our 518mhz 7200. The Droid / milestone for example is way (WAY) faster at 550mhz than the legend's 600mhz.
Anyway, why is 640x480 possible on the legend and at least very difficult on the hero?
The 7227 SoC is quite different ! It's flash controller is way faster, and more important: it has (more) hardware accelerated media functions (better media support chip in the package) .
The hero doesn't have a chip like that, so it has to do it completely on the CPU, where the legend has (limited ) hardware support / acceleration .

Clock speed does mean something. Your example isn't that correct. The 3.8ghz P4 only has 1 core whereas the Core2Duo has 2 cores each running 2.2ghz so that's like a total of 4.4ghz.
Sorry for the offtopic, but @info5i2002, don't say something you are far from knowing. It does not matter how many cores you have since the "clock speed" does not add up. E6600 is 2.2GHz. This means it has two cores running at 2.2GHz. You can't say it's running at 4.4GHz. And the high-end P4 was dual-core. P4 6xx I think. And also, you can compare clock-per-clock performance only when you're comparing CPUs with the same architecture.

I ain't saying that the clockspeed add up together. What I'm saying is that it is akin to having a combined clockspeed of 4.4ghz. Its like how a dual core 1ghz is still somewhat slower than a single core 3ghz.
Clock speed is not the only important thing when you compare two CPUs, the CPU architecture is extremely important too.

Yes yes, I understand that too. Like how ARM Cortex A8 is so much better than say our ARM11 processor (i think its 11)
what someone said is wrong...
HERO/and Sapphire 32A could have 640x480 recording, because MSM7200 has a QDSP5 inside it. and recording is proceeded by VFE functions and not by CPU.
and it is tested with a legend port on Sapphire 32A, yes the fps is low, but I think that it could be improved, if we could get better camera libs and apps to proceed the output frames (which are from hardware and redirected to userspace by Camera kernel driver) faster.

Best android stick out at the moment? (UK)

Hey guys,
I've done search and come across a few things:
* MK809II
* MK802IIIS
* ODroid U2
My question is - which is the "recommended" or "best" stick - I plan to play 1080p movies and probably the use of the Android Playstore for games etc.
Thanks,
Matt
Would love to know as well, any experts ?
Really depends on ROM support. Seems most get the mk808 models. I have one and the 809 and 809ii. All work the same. Slight performance gain on 808. 1080 works on all but not very good for me. Gets choppy.
I am waiting for quadcores to hit the market before i get into them more. They should work alot better then!
Isn't this strange, aren't 809 and 809ii supposed to work better ?

I am waiting for quadcores to hit the market before i get into them more. They should work alot better then!

I have the MK809ii and I purchased it because it has 8gb memory, dual core, and bluetooth. From what I remember the 808 had less memory and no bluetooth. I think the 808b has bluetooth but If I remember correctly that one also had 4 gb memory.
Hope that helps:good:

Here are my reasons why you should buy the MK808B NOW!
1. Price less than $50 at geekbuying.com (they sell real ones, not fake and they get factory firmwares by request)
2. Dual core, 1608mhz each (set governor to performance to max results)
3. Bluetooth (keyboards, mouse, headset, headphones, Wii controllers, file transfers)
4. Great wifi, on par with my Motorola Bionic use Wifi Analyzer to test yours, will even tell you what router channel is the best. No signal drops.
5. 8GB ROM and it is fast, 1GB Fast DDR2 RAM, microSD slot. I have 4 port hub and 3 USB drives and USB Webcam connected, all working.
6. LOTS of support. Finless Bob and Lewy20041 have both released custom ROMS and factory even sent out 4.2
7. No heating issues, never locks up, no reboots required, fast and stable.
8. XMBC support and MXPlayer has full hardware acceleration.
I have plenty of supporting benchmarks and comparisons on my blog

Once the quadcores get down near the $60 range I'll be moving towards one of those, best to watch which quadcore gets most development attentions. ROM developers help make the stick faster and better. I'm sure once the MK808B has an overclocking kernel I'll be able to get close to the freescale quadcore in benchmarks. 1080 over wifi not possible, not sure I've seen anyone posting success with wifi 1080.
I have an 802IIIs plugged into a 1080p 60 Hz TV. It works well, it was exactly as I had expected.
I use it only really to watch Youtube, Netflix, and other TV/videos online. It does an excellent job doing that. Pair it up with a wireless mouse or Droidmote and you got a pretty good set up. If you're using Droidmote via your phone or tablet, you can even enter text in the 802 via your phone or tablet's microphone.
Angry Birds runs smoothly on it too. GTA III and Vice City (you have to sideload Vice City) all work very well. I've never played them on PS2 so I can't compare the graphics, but action and frame rate are actually very smooth, no lag at all. You can hook up a PS3 controller to your tablet/phone running Droidmote and play with a physical controller.
Is it possible to stream a video online in the browser with this sticks?
Would blow this rat's nest of cords in my room away
I just want to stream videos, which one should I buy?
I think the MK802s are too expensive for me, if I just want to stream.
Thanks!

My first Android Stick was the Uhost U1A and it is down to $30 on Geekbuying.com. It has a single core cpu and is more than capable of streaming online content. Most single core devices score about the same and Uhost U1A has the best firmwares. I ran a bunch of benchmarks and you can use that to compare to most dual core systems or your android phone/tablet.

Since price of the MK802s start around $40 for the single core, I'm guessing that $30 would be your price range? The UI (user interface) isn't very smooth at all. I constantly have the operating system asking if it should end a process because it was running too slow. I didn't have many issues gaming, but I didn't play too many games on it. I can watch Youtube without any hiccups, it uses almost no cpu power to play NO HD content. MX Player offers hardware acceleration so 720p videos are possible.
What online streaming are you looking to use? XMBC has plenty of channels. If you have to patients, go for the Uhost U1A, but don't expect any more firmwares or custom ROMs. If you can get into the $50 range, take a look at the MK808B, it is full of options, thanks to bluetooth, has almost triple to power/speed as Uhost U1A, and is getting plenty of factory and custom firmware support thanks to geekbuying.
I have more benchmarks, and reviews on the MK808B. This is one of the best Android Sticks for under $50.

Not even with MiMo 802.11N?
how is the performance for running this for many hours. I mean if you are watching youtube/online streaming for 3-5 hours continuous, does it perform well or any degradation in performance. Any issues of heating up, also how is the wifi radio does the connection stays stable with your wifi router so that online stream plays without any issues.
Also does anyone know if geekbuying.com does shipping to MiddleEast?
thanks

If you've already got another Android device give the free MK802III wifi controller app a try (despite it's name it works fine on MK808b - the server side is pre-installed on the device and is called ehome media)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDMsImNvbS5yb2NrY2hpcC5yZW1vdGVjb250cm9sIl0.
For more bells and whistles you could buy Droidmote - client app is free, server is around $2:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wOSwib3JnLnZpZGVvbWFwLmRyb2lkbW90ZXNlcnZlciJd
Sixaxis works well as a bluetooth game controller when used with a genuine Sony PS3 game pad (does cost to buy but is pretty cheap):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5ncGl4ZWxzdHVkaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb250cm9sbGVyIl0.
I use all of the above as and when it suits, plus my Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse work brilliantly - just plug the receiver into the full-size usb port on the device and away you go
Finally, install and set the NULL keyboard as default input device in order to stop the on-screen keyboard popping up every time you want to type:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS53cGFyYW0ubnVsbGtleWJvYXJkIl0.
If you want to eliminate any streaming issues for 1080 over wifi this usb to ethernet adapter will work with the MK808b straight out of the box:

I have used mine for online streaming for 3 - 4 hours at a time (Youtube, BBC iPlayer, various tv episode streaming sites) without any issues affecting performance, no over heating, no signal loss or dropped connections. The only thing that was mildly irritating was that the default web browser (which works surprisingly well with flash) was set to iPad as the default user agent - change it to Desktop and it calls exactly the same version of websites as your PC browser.
I am still using the stock JellyBean 4.2.2 ROM that shipped on the device.

BlueTimes Dual WiFi antenna Quad Core TV Box

Hi everyone, I ordered this one from eBay however I'm starting to think I may have rushed a bit. It is on its way, shipped and specs seem very good but if anyone knows anything about it I'd like some feedback.
What is RockChip RK3188*like? There is not much info about it on the internet, I did see a video of a guy AntuTuing it on Archos tablet and it scored more than my Nexus 7 2012, in fact about 6000-8000 points more, depending on what I currently am running on my N7 (the box does have 2GB RAM, which is double the size of N7's RAM). But it may be different in practice, I plan to use it for basically the same stuff everyone here seeks a box - XBMC, movies and TV shows in general. But can I steam a movie file from my PC to the box over WiFi (I suppose some typical LAN steam is available in XBMC?). How do these devices work with 1080p movies (and shows too, shows have full 16:9 1080p, movies have a height of less than 1000 pixels, most of the time).
How do I control it? Is there some app for controlling it with another Android device, don't tell me I need to use a wireless keyboard/mouse every time
Thanks!

Building A Killer, State-Of-The-Art ATX-E Z590 Full Tower...

I have all but the video card. I refuse to pay $900 for a $450 card! I'll use onboard video or my GTX-1070 from my X-99 system for the time being.
As for storage, in addition to the (2) Seagate FireCuda PCIe 4.0 NvMe M.2's, I already have over 60 TB in SATA6 SSD's and Hard Drives.
What do you guys think of my custom build choices?

NOT a gaming system? Seriously? Please tell me what game if any, won't play at FULL MAX on this system?
It's an ALL purpose KILLER PC.

I don't know what your monitor setup, resolutions and FPS settings should look like, but with a RTX3060 this PC won't be able to play all games on FULL MAX(But that also depend on the games). Also depending on the number of drives, the PSU might be driven to the limit.

I have 2 Sceptre C34's and a 78" Sammy QHD Curved. As for drives, there won't be more than a 750W PSU can handle without breathing hard. Most of the storage will be Thunderbolt 4 connected and externally powered.
As for the RTX-3060, as I said, it's not purchased because of the current chip shortage and resulting price-gouging. I'll likely buy a far more potent RTX when they're plentiful and cheap.
Damn man. All you need is another processor and you can build 2 fast machines out of all those parts. But seriously I'm waiting like you to upgrade video. Reminds me of the RAM shortage in the late '90s.

LOL. I have a complete X79 system, a complete X99 system, skipped the waste of time X299 and now building this Z590 and 90% of what I do is web surf on Win 10 / Waterfox.
