I'd like to try another ROM (as I'm on A12 from Sense now) but I'd like to keep the sense phone app because I love that it queries the DB for call log/contacts as you type. Do any ROMs have this? What other ROMs are recommended? I'm relatively inexperienced with this stuff but have made it this far.

The sense phone app require the sense framework, thus requiring a sense rom.
Thanks - are there any other Sense ROMs? Or is there maybe a dialer similar to a sense dialer?
Think there's one inthe market that has semi-similar features. Ps. This isn't a development question, so you should probably try and take it to the q&a area.
Wrong sub-forum for this thread, but "Dialer One" in the market has what you're looking for.
Post thread in the appropriate sub-forums.
Thanks
Any other ROMs you guys would recommend? I'm looking for one with a simple update.zip with best battery life, features and radio.
Pretty much everybody us going to say "make a nand backup, then try each one to see if they suit your needs." This is probably the best advice out there at the moment.

Dialer One doesn't query the call logs :-(... Will any program?

I'm using "EnergyROM 23541/21892" and I'm looking for something better and faster !
I have to say it's pretty confusing and overwhelming when you arrive here. Couldn't answer this myself, there should be a poll thread like there are on Modaco to help newbies.
This again, why dont you start trying some to see what you like...they are all good
For cutting edge ROMs - look at Miri's or Dutty's HG ROMs
For super clean - look at CleanEx (new ROM but already looks like it could be a goodun)
This is all subjective to personal opinion and taste. Best advice is to read through some of the posts and try for yourself.

Definitely the ARTEMIS !!
So indeed this is where a poll would be useful, look at all those different answers!
I think rather than a 'what is best' it would be much better to have a comparison page where all the chefs could update with the important information and a link to their forum page - so for example it would have a table with the chef name, driver version, manila version, rom version etc... and perhaps a few key points such as applications added/removed from stock ROM...
A first point of call so you can quickly see who has released a new ROM, and see its details
What this should NOT include is any star rating/number of downloads etc...
This is an easy question to answer, I think!
For any user unwilling to do a bit of research and learn about differences between ROM's, the best ROM is obviously the one they already have!

the hd2 can't have any preferences, you on the other hand might have some.
thus, the question becomes 'which of the roms might be the best for me?'
so the solution my friend, lies entirely in your hands
happy flashing mate
this will be closed v soon. i have seen many threads on this topic they all closed. so u have to try ur self and find what is the best. tast r difarent. for me Dutty's HG
Thats like asking
"What is the best console" or even "What is the best programming language".
Simply put, it comes down to personal opinion, while one person might rate a rom good for its long battery life, another person rates the rom bad because it didnt come with his favorite video player installed (just examples, i know battery life is more related to radio, and you can install apps on all roms)
You could however ask people to write reviews, but theres already a site for that http://xdaroms.com/ and i gotta admit thats not very actively updated/reviewed.
Personally, im always very pleased with Artemis roms, if your looking for the ram or cpu trick, forget i mentioned it, but if your looking for speed and stability alongside the latest wm and manila, check out the thread (read peoples replys a bit/read changelog/look at screens to get an idea of the rom)
The first time it can be a little scary to flash your phone, but after a while you will get the hang of it, its really not that hard or dangerous, just read the thread about flashing.
As long as you read the (help & specific rom) threads, it'll be just fine
I agree... If like me, you need a ROM which allows for Chinese Input, you become more limited in your options... so it really depends on what you need....
I am a bit surprised to see a request like "searching a faster and better ROM".
You should ask different questions, eg. I need this and that in a ROM, which
ones come with it? Even better, do a search yourself!
Dozens of ROMs are available. All of them are fast, all of them are good.
Hundreds of different answers are possible.
If you feel that your device is slow with the ROM you are using, there could be other reasons:
- bad flash
- defective device
I just tell this because after having flashed something like 50 different ROMs over the past three months, not any single one of them made my HD2 slow.
I recently was looking around the forum and saw the same type of question in a Poll about what was the best NON Sense ROM for the HD2. There was some great comments in there and really helped me sort through some of the better ones to run. I wanna hear the same for Sense UI.
Question: What is the best Sense UI Build/Rom for the HD2? Preferably running FroYo of course. We love our Deserts.
I'd love to see everyone's thoughts or input as to what is best, most stable & most feature complete. Just whatever. Please post what's worked best for you.. Thanks!
i would say the most fastest cleanest and most stable clean froyo sense build would have to go to MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.3.
check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525
My favourite is mattc 1.8 w/ sense. It's a little older but with hastarin 8.2 without UVOC it works so smooth and stable.

I can answer you for the worst threads. I don't like these polls, all builds take a lot of time to make and deserve to be tested.
Mdeejay_eVo_Sense_v._2.3Revolution
i think this one is perfect with hastarin 7.7 and mms patch, pretty similar but with the widescreen photo option (zoom doesn't work) battery only last's about 6 hours of hard use but that's the price yo pay for a super phone.
Yeah btw, I made a thread just like this about best ROMs in the ROM section of the forum.
It got closed down by a mod and I got a PM saying threads asking which ROM is better are not allowed on the forum.
It's really weird I know. :S Surely they'd want threads like this to educate newbies and encourage friendly competition.
It's only to look for opinions and suggestions on what people thinks the best. Doesn't mean some peoples ROM's aren't good. I appreciate anyone's work. But some have things others don't. What works for one might not work for others, but in general we all want a smooth and running system. So this was just a in general question.
I didn't post the other one. Someone else posted that Poll. This was just looking for opinions and thoughts. His was an actual Poll with votes..
Thanks for the input so far guys. I'm still trying to decide what sense rom I'll load first. I've always loved Vanilla and never used Sense. And that is also why I think this question is a "ok" one to ask.
the reason these sorts of threads get closed occasionally is because whatever people answer is their own opinion, nothing can be based on fact. You may like one build that another person dislikes, and most users see threads such as these as pointless.
Last sense build I used was mdeejays desire hd build which has been discontinued now
Hey guys, hoping you guys can give some insight to a noob on this. I am looking to install a good rom on my phone. I'm leaning how to do this, but what I am looking for is speed and functionality. Themes are not that important, but would be cool. I do have the DK28 and is rooted, so I might need a good video to show me how to rom this phone properly. But as far as rom's go, I'm looking for one that is a really good rom.
Thanks in advance
Mike
Welcome to Rooting your phone. As far as the best ROM? There is no one best ROM, everyone has a different preference and outlook on speed. Any of the latest EXT4 ROMs will probably suit you though. Here is a link that will help you pretty much with everything you need:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700
They have guides on how to ROOT, ROM, THEME and other things. It has the links to kernels, roms, themes all there. Hope that helps, and good luck.

Viper
Im going to the new Nebula (twin Jets) now with EXT4
Have fun and good luck
What's EX-4? I'm not familar with that. Also is there a page to show these roms as I know new ones are coming out all the time. tHANKS AGAIN FOR THE POSTS.

Cool thanks. Are there any video's that show how these are installed? I saw some on youtube, but they were not that great of quality, and was unable to really get a good view of how to do it.
Thanks again
Videos
These videos don't show how they are installed but give a nice overview of some of the most popular current roms. I found them really useful.

Thanks viper. I'm looking though them now. Just trying to find a video on how to install a rom. I have picked one out and looking for instruction on how t install. I don't want to brick the phone since it's my company phone.
I did it. Viper rom installed. Was not too hard. Found a good video for it. Thanks for the help everyone.

The fun part is thanks to nandroid backups you can try out a ton of roms (I flash a new one every couple of days, now I'm back at dl18 playing the waiting game)
From what i've seen most roms share all of the major fixes and use similar tweaks and optimizations that they borrow from other devs... and the only notable difference i've seen between them is theme and how much they include in the rom extras wise (apps, live wallpapers, etc).
Viper rom has a lot of updates but I wasnt too much of a fan of the overall look of it
Mammons bonsai rom is lovely and I <3 it
Midnight Rom is excellent too and one of the best themes in my opinion, though if i remember correctly he does away with Twiz launcher and uses launcher pro(could be mistaken though i'm really tired and have used too many roms)
Epic Experience was the first rom that I flashed and works great, but I was mainly playing with the others lately since they have more frequent updates
Quantum Rom - daemon is brilliant and am looking forward to his next release
Supernova - I did try it out but I honestly don't remember what features it had
Nebula - Tried this out too, supposed to be more stable/straight forward rom for stable professional people who dont want inflated quadrant scores or flashy live wallpapers (I might be quoting a different rom, if so i apologize)
Syndicate Rom - Awesome as well but its not for dk28 xD
Overall all the roms are amazing the only differences REALLY notable to me is that some use AOSP lockscreen by default, some use TWiz lock/launcher, some use ADW... launcher pro... but all of that is changeable with a flashable zip/apk...I tend to prefer mammon and quantum rom nowadays since iirc mammon made the call log fix and gps fix and daemon is doing all this ext4/cwm work and they seem to be leading up the race with innovation and knowledge (not saying others arent knowledgeable... i know nothing of developing i'm just guessing here)
EDIT: forgot to mention, only reason im not on dk28 right now is that personally I have minor bugs with it such as the one where you call somebody and it doesnt ring or make any sound but it actually calls them, and some other minor issues. I figured i'd wait for official froyo to drop and continue testing out roms when I get bored
Oh and theres also cyanogen mod which is sexy and amazing but is prebeta and buggy (signal bars not working, MMS is broken, etc)
Although I agree that he could have been nicer about it, these posts absolutely do not belong in the development forum. Questions about "which rom is best for me?" Definitely belong in general. The reason some people (myself included) aren't often very nice about it is becase it is increasingly becoming a problem. The op really should take the time to read the stickies before cluttering up the dev forum. Everyone should.
Also, calling someone a jackass- even if they are being one- almost never shows them the error of their ways.

P.S If I do change rom's do I have to flash everytime and lose my apps and info? I save contacts on the SD card, but will stick with viper rom if I have to flash the phone for other roms. It get's kind of time consuming.

It is best to get titanium backup (from the market) that way u can back up your apps and you can use Backup to Gmail (also from the market) to backup contacts, call log, and messages. That makes flashing different roms a lot easier. (In my opinion)

Aside from titanium (which i never really used much, guess I should try it out as it can make backups every night while you sleep if you set it to)
You can also make a NANDroid backup via rom manager//clockwork mod which when you restore will restore everything down to cache to be the same. same texts in your inbox even xD.
EDIT: Also if you have your phone linked to a google account when you go through the setup wizard (on some roms) it auto downloads the apps you had installed before from the market as well as contacts, etc. But if you want an instant restore to the same settings/wifi/etc then I prefer nandroid (idk if titanium does all that I think it just backups apps)
also note that along with most roms you can customize them to your liking. you can change the boot animations (given they use a kernel that allows it... if the rom has a custom boot animation already it'd work by flashign one in CWM), theme, battery look, keyboard, launch options, lockscreen. You could always just get a not-flashy basic rom that incorporates the basic fixes that people want (faster gps lock/5mb mms/call log fix) and theme it all yourself in the themes and apps subforum. The gingerbread theme is nice and nova has a list of boot animations and battery mods in his supernova rom page :3. If you're interested in that I'd say go for epic experience as I'm partial to it and he includes an "extras" page with downloads to all that hes removed such as the live wallpapers, samsung widgets, etc.
hi folks, can't seem to find a better place for this than the general area - hope this is alright. i've been enjoying the CM 10.2 nightlies for some time, but find myself missing a few of my s4's touchwiz camera features, like the fast burst shooting. is there any ROM that combines these such things or am i asking for too much?
perhaps the real question should be, what is the best custom version of touchwiz that makes it feel the snappiest and most like aosp? i've come across GoldenEye, and MDOB... am I getting warmer?
It's your first post so I'd suggest you read the forum rules. "Best" threads are frowned upon. They're is no best, just what you like best. So try some. What works for me might not work for you.
Agree with jd and mod will probably close thread
That said try Goldeneye or Vision. Solid, error free, and have options thru Aroma to customize. You can also freeze bloatware still there in Titanium BackUp.
You'll have to read Rom OP to see if features you want are still there--

I mean, lets be careful with using phrases like "error free". All ROMs come with errors. With that said OP and before this thread is locked, what I swear by won't necessarily be up to your standard. Best bet, take each ROM for a spin a week at a time. I think with the quality devs here you'll find something that suits your needs. Happy flashing!!:good:
There really is no "best rom." I suggest you go look through the Development sections and look for the TW based ROM that best fits your needs.
Ok, I think it has been a good while now for roms to have been made and chosen which is the overall best rom for the T-Mobile version of this phone. I am curious to what rom most of you use so I can finally install a custom rom on my phone?

If you really, really, really don't want to make an informed decision on your own, just check the numbers of views and replies on the roms threads. And be aware that rom X might have an issue today which rom Y hasn't, while its the other way around after the next release.

I like his response. Pretty reasonable. The one with the most views and posts are probably the most widely used. Although that doesn't mean that they are the best. Just most used for whatever reason.
OP, due to the nature of these type of Threads we do not allow them....there is no Best ROM, it is up to the Individual to figure what is best for them...the Best ROM's are located here....
