Is there a separate fork that I don't know about with Android? The source code was already released at that time of posting, yet akirah still states that he is waiting for the release of AOSP eclair. So I'm confused.
What I thought by this post was that there is Android supported just by Google, and then there is AOSP, which anyone can edit and then slap on their phones.
Edit: I felt like I should of done some more research and searched more thoroughly, so I did and came back to delete this thread, and didn't have the option to delete it, so I'm gonna ask for some more additional clarification.
Why is it so difficult to get everything working on different phones? Why if one puts 2.0 on a phone such as the G1 or MyTouch it's sluggish? Yeah there are different hardware that needs to be supported, but how difficult can it be to get the different radios, wifi and sound working? Why do we have to wait so long for HTC to come out with a 2.0 image?
Thanks

That thread was posted on the 27th of October (and edited on the 28th). The 2.0 source was only released a week ago, if that. That ROM was ported from the emulator images. 2.0 requires new drives for the Qualcomm chipset in the Dream, Magic, Hero and Tatoo, which they have yet to release to us. Imagine running your computer without drivers for essential components, even it had great specs everything would run like crap, that's essentially what's going on here.
Hi guys,
im trying to get my phone jtaged so i can finally have it rooted. are there any suggestions on the best mod to use for the g1? i know we have limited memeory and i beleive we cant even run 2.0 or 2.1 on the phone is that correct?
THanks!
does this mean we get 2.1!!!

A whole bunch of us have been working hard to get Android 2.1 (CM 5.0.7) running perfect on the HTC Dream and Magic phones and I think it’s nearly ready to go. This release is almost exactly the same as the Nexus One and Droid versions of CM now, minus a few of the heavier apps.
This was an incredible community effort and I hope everyone likes the result. Breathing new life into old hardware is always awesome.
I expect that a stable release of 5.0.7 should be ready for all devices in the next few days.
And after that.. Google has confirmed that Android 2.2 (FroYo) will be available for ION phones, so it’s guaranteed that CM-6 will continue to support the G1 also when the source code hits AOSP.
Cyanogen 5.0.7test7 runs pretty sweetly on my G1 and its based on 2.1
does it lag at all? are there any limitations that i should know of
I find it ok with comcache enabled, around the same speed (if not a little quicker) then the stable based on 1.6.
It is still a "test / experimental" build though, so proceed at your own risk etc...

Running the Rom on my signature which is CyanogenMod5, latest version themed and tweaked. It is a 2.1 and is running very fast/stable so far. Major downside is the battery life however and is a bit hard to get used to vs. a 1.6 Donut Rom.
In all honesty Id say you try SuperD v1.11 (Best Donut Rom in my opinion) first and then flash the Eclair Roms later on. Sooner or later I am sure a developer will improve the battery degradation problem on the 2.1's.

This phone you speak of is an HTC phone called "DREAM".

That statement is absurd. EVERYTHING has limited memory. Unlimited memory is by definition IMPOSSIBLE, even the smallest memory component possible would consume more than the total available space in the universe to produce unlimited/infinite memory. In fact, it would consume the space consumed by INFINITE UNIVERSES. Inconceivably huge, eh?

And just where did you come up with this nonsense? Do you realize that all the chicken littles in the world will always say "your old hardware will never see this!" -- fact is that this is NOT WINDOZE!! Just because windoze phones don't get to see the newer versions does NOT mean that WE won't get to see our newer versions.

Hey guys,
Was just browsing some sites and read about lag fix for galaxy S, and also read about it working on viewsonic G tablet. I heard it increases performance for the tablets and phones. Can this lag fix be applied to the ADAM, and will it make any tangible differences?
Im completely new to android, so i am uncertain about these things. Any devs know?
I dont understand. Is this "lag fix" an Application.
Update: I just researched this, It seem if though your device must be rooted. In addition It seems to be designed for the Galaxy s phones. The Adam uses a different Kernal version. It seems as if this was a fix for an inherant in the phones software.
Seeing as its not meant for the Adam and that your new to android I would not attempt to use it.
Why would you think you needed it anyway?
There are a number of "lag-fixes" out there... which one are you referring to?
@number01pup -- the OP did mention a lag fix for the ViewSonic G-Tablet which is also running on the Tegra2 SoC and is a very similar platform. However, when I was involved with the Gtablet there were a couple of controversial lag-fixes such as the Data2Loop fix as well as a number of generally accepted updates that got baked into the ROMS.
@joshua.lyon Yes I had seen these as well. But even though the hardware of the Adam and the Gtablet are similar, the software they are using is very different. Although there both listed as running 2.2, the Adam also incorporates bits and pieces of 2.3. Theres to many unknowns to just go and install it based on it working on the Gtablet.
But again why would ou need the lag fix. Is the a confirmed and wide spread problem with the Adam being laggy.
Its not laggy, and I dont have my device yet.
I, like most just want to get the absolute most out of my device. If this lag fix can improve performance I just want to see if we can use it.

Don't jump to conclusions. I wasn't going anywhere near recommending people go and install packages for the GTablet on their devices. I was simply questioning the original poster as to which specific "lag-fix" they were talking about. I used the G-tablet threads as a reference point for the OP since their comment was really vague.
That being said, if there was a specific fix the original poster was interested in, it might possible that it's could be ported over to the Adam. Hence the reason I was trying to better understand what he was interested in...
Heck, we already have GApps, Market, and Ad Hoc support which came from some of the GTablet devs (Roebeet, Rothnic, GoJimi, etc)

Yea, that was pretty vague. I guess what I heard was that with "lagfix" there was an increase in overall performance for the tablet.
This website below is what got me thinking:
http://project-voodoo.org/lagfix
I know this is for nexus S, but I saw some people saying they got a large amount of improvment in benchmarks and overall performance of their Viewsonic G tablet by using lagfix.
I am not sure if it is the same lag fix or not, and Im wondering if something similar should be made available to the ADAM
Coming from a Galaxy S user, the lag-fix you read about in those forums is for a special case. The file system Samsung implemented in the Galaxy S line, RFS, is poorly implemented and resulted in sub-par performance for the Hummingbird processor. The lag-fix basically changes some system folders into ext2, ext4 or JFS for improvement. It's something that was done as a remedy to RFS because it would gradually slow down the more you used it and installed apps.
I sincerely doubt the adam needs a lag-fix because all videos of it I've seen tend to show it running flawlessly. I don't have one in my hand, yet, but if I get one I'll look more into that.
Also if I get one, I plan on developing a theme or two at the very least. =)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and an Adam and I can tell you that the adam does not need a lag fix like my phone does.
Since this is a question, I have moved it to general. All further questions should be posted in this section.

Are you sure you read that right, might you have a source or a link for that info? Could it be you're mistaking the GTab (Samsung Galaxy Tab) with the Viewsonic G Tablet?
The "lag fix" is for Samsung Galaxy S devices, of which the Gtab is just a 7" version of, that's why it works on it as well.. It fixes the lag on those devices, which I think has to do with it's Hummingbird processor.

no it has to do with a efs filesystem choosen by samsung which is bad for performance
for example voodoo converts it to ext4
this does not apply for the nexus s
just galaxy s and tab
You could probably get _some_ improvement in performance by changing the file system of the Adam to ext4 (if it isn't ext4 already), but we should first try to find out exactly what kind of memory is used in the Adam. The wrong file system could break it. Aside from that, it doesn't seem that the Adam really need it, since it doesn't have the loading issues the Galaxy S 2.1 and 2.2 (fixed in 2.2.1) has.

Definitely not quite as necessary, but ironically enough, Nexus S will still benefit from EXT4 hacks because not all of the mount options are enabled from the factory. I'm currently on a Nexus S kernel that raises my IO performance considerably due to that.
While some of these lagfixes are general, valid performance increses, things like ramdisks for the /data partition are simply there to raise quadrant scores.
Also, I believe you're referring to the RFS file system. /EFS refers to a partition on the root of the device which houses things like the IMEI information in Samsung Android devices.
Hi there all, I dont want to upset anyone but there are so many roms too download and there too much to read trying to find one thats suits. Could someone start a thread Bible listing :-
- Type of rom ie CM7, sense etc.
- Memory consumption ie does it require an SD card partition, how much mem left after install on a 512mb or 1024mb NAND?
- Extras supported by Kernel ie cifs, Ext4 etc etc
This would make it easy to narrow down to a few roms when looking for specific things.
Anyway if no likes the idea no doubt this will disappear .

Do we need that? IMHO it will waste time.
It is better to experience each rom by oneself.
I remember at the beginning of the rise of HD2. I flashed every ROM every day
Now, is the beginning of the dawn of HD2. Custom ROMS are not as many as before to flash.
I now only flash one or twice a month
Cheers
Don't think, that anyone will take the time and make such a "ROM Bible" u asking for.
Have a look here, may be that's usefull for you:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
The most popular roms for HD2 are typhoon cm7 from twyeen, hyperdoid cm7 from pongster and the NexusHD2 from tytung.
If you sort the topics by the count of posting you will see that these roms got most of them...so you can nearly ensure that this roms are stable/smooth/ bugfree etc. and also suits to your needs.
Tested all three of them, all of them are nice roms, but I like the cm7 mod an always up2dated rom, so typhoons rom fity perfectly for me.
Consumption of all three is between 2 and 5 mah.
Which rom you will prefer you have to test yourself.

Hi,
Have you seen this:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
Very close to what you want...
EDIT:sorry,duplicate.
My bad
It is beneficial. But is it worth it? Personally, if you want one so badly, then why not do it yourself? Can't always be relying on people, can you?
Fair Comment I would not know where to start. I notice most chefs dont list all the info so with out testing every single one or asking them all I would be lost.
This idea comes up every few months, and has done since time immemorial, in all the different phones threads, (there are probably 5 or 6 threads with the same idea in the hd2 winmo section, i wouldn't be surprised if there isnt one lurking in the wp7 section by now) and they rarely ever go anywhere. Sometimes they get started, but tail off after a month or two.
The problem is usually one of two things.
Either
a/ you are relying on all/most of chefs to update some database somewhere, , , which 99% of them won't do, , , they spend far too much time building the next rom, eating cake or sleeping,,,
or
b/ you are relying on updating the database yourself, which means you are flashing all the roms anyway, and several times a day, especially with teh nightly cm7 builds, which come out every day or two,, which is kinda what you wanted to avoid.
There are some almost lists, such as the one in post 3, but thats probably as good as it will get.
From my experience id say overall that Hyperdroid CM7 by Pongster is most definitely the best of them all, as regards Froyo id say Sergio Coredroid 1.6 is the best there but Gingerbread (not Ginger sense too buggy) on the HD2 is the way to go although ill be selling my HD2 when i eventually purchase the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Well I think it is fair to say everyone else is a human being, like you. Most of us go to school, have a job, a social life, etc. Meaning, like you, we are all constraint by time. So, like you, all of us would be lost too, if we do not test them all, and as said, do we have the time? So, it still narrows down, are you willing to do it yourself?
Well as you said time can be an issue, if there was a way to get the Chefs to give me the info I would happily spend the time to put it all together for everyone.
hehe, and we're back to being dependent on the devs spending time, albeit just a few minutes, several times per week, filling in a DB.
It was just an idea I know the devs work hard. Just delete the tread, I kinda thought it might upset some.
Any build prop tweaks or minfree settings or suggestions in general
What are you trying to do? Ram is fixed and android handles it pretty efficiently.
I am trying to get as much free RAM as possible on stock rooted. Do you have any suggestions?
To further clarify, I wish to do this at the system level, VS using greenify or other 3rd party solution.
Free ram is useless ram. Don't worry about it. Android handles it well.

I do appreciate that you think you're helping with your answers, but I do have my reasons for needing and wanting the RAM, so I would appreciate it if instead of answering with your opinion on the matter, if you could provide an actual answer to the question. To provide further details, I do not believe samsung has their memory management down. On stock rooted (and majorly debloated) I should have more than 1gb of RAM free. I have used custom ROMs with bigger system partitions that managed to have up to 1.6 free when in idle. That, coupled with in my personal experience, with more RAM available, it provides better performance. Surely this is some how possible on stock as well.
I used to know how to edit the build.prop back in GB days...or I used a minfree manager? I'm not sure what the appropriate procedure for this would be on JB.
Get build prop editor and go for it then.

It isn't an opinion. It is a proven fact that unused RAM is wasted RAM. Look it up. This isn't GB. The system takes up a ton of stuff. You should not have over 1GB of free RAM, even on an out of the box S4. You can get it with heavy tweaks and a custom ROM, but you have to be able to find that stuff.
Also, there are many guides that would help you if you took the time to find them instead of posting a question that has been answered before.

I havent attempted to refute the fact that unused RAM is wasted RAM, only that the more RAM available, the better the user experience. When I was speaking of opinions, I was referring to his ideals that I shouldnt worry about it. I can if I want, especially considering I do believe being able to achieve 1.4 or 1.6 free ram on stock rom will provide a great stable user experience.
I realize this isnt GB. This is why I posted this thread, to inquire and learn. I certainly see no reason why I shouldnt be able to reach over a 1GB of ram with root. I am not speaking in regards to an "out of the box s4". I am speaking in regards to heavy tweaks, which is EXACTLY what I've been inquiring about.
If there are so many guides that pertain to my specific question, why dont you cite a source and put your money where your mouth is. You really believe I havent been sitting on google trying to figure it out myself? Maybe instead of adding to what you consider to be a waste of a thread that has been answered before, perhaps you could end the thread with an answer instead of cockiness.

It is impossible to have more than 3 quarters of the RAM free on a stock S4. I have a heavily tweaked custom TW ROM and get 1.15 GB free on average. You are asking for a bit too much. You will have to drop the stock ROM if you are not on MF3 and go with a highly tweaked, non TW based ROM and a great kernel to get close to what you want.
I personally use SHOStock ROM 2.2, Ktoonz latest TW kernel with KTweaks with the recommended settings, turbo ZRAM, Greenify and Battery Guru to maximize my system. At this current moment, I have 865 MB/1.78 GB RAM.
All of these items are easily found in google or on the first page of the General section, The QA Section, The Games and APP Section, the Original Development section, or the Development section Of this exact forum. Why should I post something for you that is right under your nose? For what you are looking for, Google is not a good source. You will not find one single thing that will help you. You need multiple items and lots of time to fine tune your system. Google is only good for finding one or 2 things unless you know how to use key words.
As a Recognized Contributor, I have been excessively helpful to thousands of people on XDA. I would not have the title if it were untrue. I do however find your original attitude towards jd1639 to be a bit uncalled for. All the answers were on par because your question was not very clear to begin with.
Lets put it this way. You need a complete overhaul to get even close to the amount of memory you seek. It is impossible to have that much free RAM on a TW based ROM. It would be a close call on any non TW based ROM, and I doubt you would even get there.

you have contradicted yourself several times in your reply, friend. From the answers being on the first page to google not being a good source. From claiming to have knowledge of threads pertaining to my question, to the answers arent available at all. Well which is it? I have no problem overhauling my system, im asking how to do that. I have run TW roms that were capable of this even on my s3 sl clearly it is possible. Perhaps I will PM a few devs, but there is no reason I shouldnt be able to post in the q & a section with a q that has clearly never been answered, and expect more responses than the ideologies of unused RAM vs wasted RAM.
so thanks for your contribution
You miss understand my answers. I'm done here. If you are unwilling to take my obvious attempt to give you a little edge in the right direction, I am unwilling to further discuss this.
Actually... One last thing. If you are on MF3,you are screwed and can't do anything to get even close to what you want. You will be stuck on stock. I suggest not trying to tweak anything because if you mess up, you can't fix it.

Actually... One last thing. If you are on MF3,you are screwed and can't do anything to get even close to what you want. You will be stuck on stock. I suggest not trying to tweak anything because if you mess up, you can't fix it.

Well apparently bricked mf3 phones can now be fixed at best buy with a Samsung service center...they have the ability to reflash mf3
And to the OP, I don't really know how to help you get more ram other than debloating the phone and stopping all the special s functions. However like everyone else has said there is no reason for more free ram. Any speed up you notice by free ram is a placebo. In the days of GB free ram did mean better performance but not anymore. You say you notice less lag on custom ROMs and you assume its related to the more ram being available, however its most likely due to tweaks the dev has applied to their ROM, whether its CPU oc, animation tweaks or whatever.
Here is what I suggest, which ever ROM you're referring to that had great performance. Contact that dev and ask what tweaks he had applied, than re-apply those tweaks to your device.

I have gotten mine rooted recently.installed titanium and uninstalled or frozed useless apps.like service provider apps and Samsung extras like gestures and stuff. I can get 1gb free ram..I don't know if its worth it but I use advanced task killer to free up mem.or go to deleoper settings and limit the number of running apps
