New to HTC Pure - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Question about setting up my Pure... I am using (rather happily I might add) PocketPutty for WM to connect to my hosts back at the office.
Well, there is no installer for putty and therefore, it is not registered within the OS. How can I add a shortcut to putty.exe on my "Programs" tab? Whenever I try to "Add" a shortcut to a program, putty does not show up.
I'm using the stock TouchFlo installation.

I would recommend getting total commander to make shortcuts easier... but if you're gonna use the stock file explorer:
1. click-hold on putty.exe to bring up the menu
2. select "Copy"
3. navigate to \windows\start menu\programs
4. find a blank spot & click-hold
5. select "Paste a shortcut"
Now, you can add it to your programs tab
navigating to the windows folder may take 4 years, s'why I recommend something like total commander.

button for comm manager

Hello,
Is there a way to allocate a button for teh comm manager in trinity the same as in the TYTN?
Thanks,
udi
As you know, there are only 3 assignable buttons on the Trinity, B1, B2 and B1 Press/Hold.
To get one of those assigned to Com Manager, you need to create a shortcut to Comm Manager in the Programs file, from where you can use the Button Control Panel to assign the function.
Open a File Manager (if using File Explorer, make sure Options/ Show All Files is selected; even with this however, you can't see file extensions, which makes the process tricky!- better to use Resco or Total Commander) and navigate to My Device/Windows. Look for CommManager.exe and Tap/Hold and select Copy from the context menu that pops up.
Now navigate to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and then Menu/Edit/Paste Shortcut. This will place the shortcut in the Programs folder. You may need to rename it to remove the 'Shortcut to..' prefix, though Resco doesn't prefix it anyway.
From there, go Start/Settings/ Buttons and do the reassignment.
thanks a lot!!

Can I add a shortcut to Comms Manager to the Start/drop down menu?

Hi
Can I add a shortcut to Comms Manager to the Start/drop down menu?
I turn Wifi on and off a lot and it would be eaiser to use the menu.
Thanks
You need to open File Explorer and then in the menu select 'Show All Files'; better still use Total Commander, or Resco File Explorer
Navigate to My Device/Windows and find CommManager.exe; tap/hold it and select 'Copy'
Now navigate to Windows/Start Menu/Programs and select Menu/File/Copy Shortcut. This will place a link in Start/Programs. If you used Resco, the link will be called CommManager; if you use File Explorer, it will be called 'Shortcut to CommManager' which could do with shortening, so go back to Windows/Start Menu/Programs, find the 'Shortcut to..' entry, Tap/Hold it and select Rename.
Once the file is in Programs, you need to go to Start/Settings/Menu from where you can select a Checkbox for any file in Programs, which will then appear in the main Start dropdown, but be aware that you can only have a max of 7 entries, so you may need to disable one.
If you already have less than 7 entries, you can copy the shortcut directly into Windows/Start Menu, but if you have 7 or more, the operation will fail.
I use AE button plus to map wi-fi on/off toggle to a button. I also use wi-fi a lot and that saves me a lot of taps. (I map long press on one of the softkeys to do it and the other to toggle silent mode).
Thanks Neil.
All working!

Customizing SPB Mobile Shell

I really like SPB Mobile Shell but I always wanted to be able to rearrange the menu. I've searched for a while and I finally found something, so I'm posting in case anyone doesn't know it yet. It's simple and all you need is some registry tweaks.
The menu is defined in
HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root
The folders you see here are the entries in the menu. Some of these menus are locked and you're not allowed to add or remove things. To change that simply create (if not there already) a DWORD 'Add' with value 1. You can do this to the root or any of the sub menus, and now they'll be unlocked.
If you wish to add an existing menu to your 'My Menu' all you have to do is copy the registry of that menu to inside 'My Menu'. For example, if you want to have 'Organizer' under 'My Menu', go to
HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root
copy the folder Organizer and paste into
HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\My Menu
Now you'll have an organizer in 'My Menu'. This wont be connected to 'Organizer' in the root so you can further customize them individually. The icon for 'Organizer' in 'My Menu' will probably not be the right one. The image is selected by the DWORD 'Image' inside 'Organizer'. Change the value and the image will change. The numbers go from 1 to 100+, and follow the same order as you see them when you try to change an icon in the SPB Mobile Shell today plugin tabs, so it'll take some trial and error for you to get the right image.
You can even add new menus like 'My Menu2', but you're not allowed to have more than 9 entries in the root menu (If you create more than 9 you simply wont see the later ones). That is why I use mostly 'My Menu' as the main one, and I copied all the menus found in the root that I'm interested in into 'My Menu' and finally I'm happy with it.
Now, if you want to access a sub menu directly (for example, assign 'My Menu' to a button or TouchFlo gesture) you must create a link as in
150#"\Windows\MenuLauncher.exe" -cmd:"\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\My Menu"
I have Mobile shell cooked into the rom, thats why the first part folder is windows, otherwise it must be something like \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\. The command line is simply the position of that menu in the registry. Don't launch this from the menu as it'll try to open two instances of mobile shell and it'll be slow.
Customize and enjoy!

Arrange icons in "programs"

When i go to start > programs i see all the programs is a big mess. How do i arrange these in folders so it looks good. And then i want to make a shortcut to the folders so i can make a shortcut to them in my today plugin. Anyuone can help?
You need to use the File Explorer (or Total Commander) and navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs - Start Menu may have a different name if you have a localized ROM (non-WWE). There you can create new subfolders and move the links into them.
Dunno about the shortcuts for today plugin though.
Regards
K_Hismoom
I have figured it out. I should just "right click" in resco explorer and choose "place in start menu as shortcut" then put the shortcut in my today plugin
EDIT: That didnt work

[Q] Folder based App Launcher

Looking for an application similar to HTC Folderview.exe or FingerFolderds
Would like it to be finger friendly and scrollable like Win 6.5 Start Menu.
Also to be able to drill down to sub folders.
Whatever files are in the folder these can be presented as launchable icons.
Plapic have you tried Total Commander http://tcce.s3.amazonaws.com/b3/cabs.htm its finger friendly and scrollable.

I have Resco File Explorer already installed and its not quite what I'm after. I was after something much simplier that behaves like a menu.
Try XTask; it does what you want. You can either use it as a start menu replacement (with Edit functions) or just use the file manager.

Not after replacing Start Menu but mimicing it. I want to be able to run this with a parameter passing a folder location. If I could perhaps figure out how Start Menu is launched and if its possible to have it open a different folder instead of \Windows\Start Menu\Programs then that would be fine.
If you love an iPhone stylish interface, you should give this a try:
