HTC HD2 File Encryption problem - HD2 General

I have connected my phone to a Exchange 2007 when I got it a few months ago and it has been fine. Found the registry key to disable the "Simple Pin" option as I found it a nuisance, but I couldn't find the registry to disable the "Encrypt the memory card" option.
Today my phone asked me for my Exchange password, which I typed in. I then took a picture and tried to send it but it wouldn't send. When I browsed my pictures folder on my memory card I couldn't open anything. Any videos or pictures or programs, when trying to open a picture it says "Unable to open this type of JPG file."
When I try to copy it off using ActiveSync it fails saying it cannot read it. Anything!!
I haven't updated the Firmware or installed any patches, in fact I haven't done anything do it for a while. It just happened out of the Blue.
How can I recover my documents?
Thanks

If you use Active Sync you can normally transfer the files to your desktop.

MSN Messenger, Album do not launch, Pictures has no pictures

Dear All,
I'm sure that I have inadvertently done something, and I'm not a technical person - so far as I know I have deleted no files, but I did use the "Stop All" under running programs so that may have left something in the wrong state....
The problem is that when I tap on MSN Messenger, or the Album application, or when using File Explorer try to open a photo --- nothing happens. Simply nothing. The Pictures application launches, but there are only the file names, no thumbnails, and if I tap on where the thumbnail should be nothing happens.
Thinking that a hard reset would fix this, I copied all my files (photos, word documents, etc.) off on my SD card, did a hard reset...and expected it all to work. Nope, it still doesn't launch. There are no error messages. I am able to connect just fine with GPRS and read my emails, also use Internet Explorer - no problems with Active Sync, just these three applications not working properly. Any suggestions on what to do to correct this would be gratefully received.

Activesync refuses to synch 2 files

Hi, I synchronise my XDA II with two PCs, office and home, but having just had to do a full restore, Activesync keeps saying that 2 files are not synched and just goes round and round trying to synch them. It's the same on both PCs.
I've made sure no files are read-only but cannot work out how to find which files are causing the problem.
Any suggestions gratefully received.........

AT MS ActiveSync menu - Information Type - Files, when you use your mouse pointer, highlight the Files icon, right click and select Resolve items..., what does it say?
For me, usually when it does not synch properly, it means that
(a) I have files with foreign languuage filename that cannot be translated properly.
(b) your files stored in your desktop is not the same as the files in your device.
Hope this helps.
or maybe it's files being used by the pc or pda ?
activesync will not sync files being used
make sure no other programs are running on the xda
and no files from the my pocketpc doc is opened on the pc
I had the same problem, tried everything to remove the problem:
Checked all files in device and synchronisation folder on PC
Checked all Active Sync settings
Closed all applications
Tried time and time again
In the end the only way I resolved it was when I upgraded the ROM to 1.72
So basically my only advice it, Hard Reset or Firmware upgrade
Does Not Sync 2 Files
I too had the problem, but I think I may have got to the bottom of it.
On my desktop, after an unsuccessful ActiveSync, I noticed that my recycle bin contained 2 files that had not been there before. They were TomTom files. If I immediately did another Sync, all files were synced correctly.
But, next time I used TomTom, ActiveSync would report that 2 files were not synched, and another pair of TomTom files appeared in the Recycle Bin.
I don't know a cure, but at least I know I am not losing any data.

Well, there's one more thing you can try - and this is also what got rid of the problem for me: synchronise, then disconnect the device, run File -> Delete Partnership from the desktop Active Sync, allowing it to delete the synchronised files. Then check C:\Documents and Settings\<your account name>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles and make sure there is no directory with your partnership's name - delete it if it still exists.
Now just reconnect your device and create a new partnership. ActiveSync will copy all "to-be-synchronized" files from the PDA to your PC, so no data is lost. The problem, however, will be gone - at least it was for me!
Cheers, Daniel
re:
I had these problems a couple of times when i hard reset my xdaii, the 2 culprit files are the westekk PPT and pdf. Its easily identified on the file explorer ion the xda2, its icon is not valid (no programs associated).
try deleting these 2 files and see. worked for me.

Messaging: unable to disply the attachment

Messaging: unable to display the attachment
Hi,
Recently i havent been able to open my attachemnts in my email. I have tried everything from resynching to removing email as a sync option and then resynching to trying to move the attachemnts around via the option the the mail from sd to main mem.
The error I get is
"Unable to display the attachment."
This happens with all types of attachments.
Are there any email db's or something I can delete to get it working again? pocket db explorer doesnt seem to list any like it did on my xdaII.
can anyone help... I have no time for a hard reset!
thanks
Just wondering....Have you used Pocket Machanic Professional?
I have the same issue among others.
after much fiddling last night i eventually broke the OS and it wouldnt start up with a storage card inserted...
so i hard resetted ansd restored from an old backup
oh no.... seems like I have this problem again......
What would cause this problem??? Does anyone have this issue as well?
Anyone?
I just tried resyncing via deleting all email accounts and also removing email from sync'd items.
I also tried moving the attachments from storage card to memory and vice versa, via the account options for storage in the email program.
Still coming up with the error message:
"Unable to display the attachment"
Can anyone please help? what else can I check/delete/add/modify?
thanks!

Pocket Outlook Gmail attachments.

I have been trying to download attachments sent to my gmail account and am having some problems.
A small pdf file (15k) will download fine, i click it, it opens, no problems.
If I download an mp3 file of a couple of meg it downloads then the icon switches to the generic unknown extension icon and nothing happens. I click the file and it says the download cannot be found, would I like to download again.
I checked all over the net, people were saying they delete the mail folders on the memory card, switch and swich back and it works, but no matter what i do, removing and resetting up the account, restarting, redownloading, setting the settings to download entire message with attachments, moving form internal memory to storage and back several times. No luck.
I found that if I go to the attacment folder, rename the file there to .mp3 it will play in media player, so it has downloaded, it's just not getting renamed and moved to the right place.
It's driving me absolutely mental now, has anybody else had any experience with this problem or got a solution?
Anybody know the location of the registry keys to set the attachment save location so I can check this also?
No?
Can anyone atleast tell me if this works for them or not, even if not the actual solution, atleast so I can stop searching for a fix if there isn't one.

Questions about WinMo / new HD2

Hi guys,
I've been searching for a few days and reading numerous threads and haven't found answers to some questions/concerns I have.
I should state up front that I am far from an expert on installing programs on phones, etc and this is the first phone I've messed with like that. From reading this forum, I've managed to install Pandora and Swype on the phone with no problems.
Anyway, here are some concerns I have with the phone that I'm trying to change / fix / figure out.
1. Text message interface - When a new text message comes in, I press the message button and it takes me to the screen showing the last individual message I viewed. I've tried to find ways to change this, to no avail. Is this SERIOUSLY the intended interface? Maybe I'm 'spoiled' coming from a G1, but I would like to press the message button and have it take me to the screen showing all the conversations I have with people.
2. Email - Same thing. If it matters, I've linked Outlook to Gmail as an exchange server (or something like that) so I can have it refresh instantaneously, rather than once a minute or once every 5 minutes (whatever the lowest setting is doing it the other way).
3. Folder browsing while connected to PC - When I plug the phone into my PC and open the folder, my options are:
Application Data
DCIM
My Documents
Program Files
DCIM looks like the storage card, but how do I explore the files on the phone? The "My Documents" folder (when plugged into the PC) only contains some folder called "My POI", which is empty; however, the My Documents folder when using "File Explorer" on the phone contains a bunch of stuff. I'm confused.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

For #1 and #2, you'll need to create shortcuts/quicklinks to "messaging" and "e-mail", you'll find them in the list of available shortcuts in the start menu.
For #3, it sounds like you're connecting to your PC in "disk drive" mode, which means you'll only see the contents of the SD card (it treats it like a regular external USB hard drive). To be able to browse the phone's memory from your PC, you'll need to connect via ActiveSync...which requires that utility installed on your PC. You need "ActiveSync" for winXP, and for Vista/7, it's called "Windows Mobile Device Center/WMDC". Once you connect your phone to the PC that way, you can browse both the phone memory as well as the SD card, it just won't be as fast/responsive as "disk drive" mode browsing, due to the nature of the connection.
