0o0o. well i never messed with 1.6 so i dont have an answer. you can try it. and best way to check compatibility is to view the android manifests in the apk's and see if there is a difference in the sdk lvl's.

Hi all,
Due to some issues with Market etc, I had this thought that maybe the best elements of MIUI could be taken from the ROM and ported into ASOP or some other rom e.g. Cyanogen.
Is this possible anyone think?
Cheers,
M
where do you want to port to? Froyo?MIUI is a Froyo dude, to Sense rom?does it necessary?

The Launcher UI to another ROM base I mean chris
I know MIUI is based upon AOSP Froyo, I am on about taking the UI elements from MIUI but putting them into a ROM we can develop with e.g. source code available, fix issues e.g. market displaying incorrect, so on and so forth.
Cheers,
M

What happens if you just install MIUI Launcher2 on another rom? Should work... may need to be resigned that's all though I think.

ForceClose errors.
I'd like that too. And maybe the scrolling behavior too, which I tried by copying the xml's in the anim in frame-work res folder but nothing happened. Maybe someone knows how to?

Nope, don't think so. To be honest, I haven't really tested it myself. I just provided the signed APK if needed for people.

Right I see!
I'd love to have all the components of the miui launcher but without that dock and dialer..I'd much rather have the sense dock/dialer/launcher on the miui rom..that would be perfect but i cant imagine that ever happening lol I love the folders, editing mode, notification panel, scrolling, and lock screen of the miui, huge improvement over the aosp imo

Maybe but not the place for that discussion
Anyone think we will see the source code for the Launcher released to Cyanogen any time soon?
That system + him would be something special!
lo.. u guys have so much dreams!! Like me hahha... i tried to install launcher2.apk from adb nd it says invalid apk.. so i think its up to devs to do that lol.. nd i like all miui mods to be on cm7 based roms or cm7 .. i like miui but it has to much bugs on it so i m now on mexdroid mod aio htc glacier
MIUI Launcher is apart of MIUI ROM framework...it is very hard to port it to another rom , and also we don't have MIUI source code...
Wow you really dug this one up from the grave. Oct 2010? But someone did make a copy/theme of the MIUI launcher. Check out https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher.miui&hl=en
just not sure if i should build off of aosp cyanogen source and build off that or sense what yall think.
AOSP always.
aosp. then move to sense if you want to.
Go aosp, sense its going to get a flood of updated roms shortly..

ok... I will try to build himself AOSP 2.3.4 from source.
Mozilla have launched Firefox OS based on Linux kernel ... Its open source ... I would like any of our good developers to look forward towards developing this OS for our phones
More detail here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/b2g/
would be hard if there's no propietary driver kernel source..
It's possible.
Here's manifest: https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/b2g-manifest
I'm too busy to port it for now. Maybe someone else can do that.
i will give it a try to port it
This isn't android based... it's not a ROM it's an other OS... i think if it's possible it will be very hard
i have knowledge of unbranded os types
It's not android. But it is linux and android is also linux, so I think drivers can be ported from android to this, no (though no api stuff and such will be the same)?
I assume it'll be hard, much harder than ics and jelly bean, but still possible.
But I also think that it won't run as good/smooth as ics and in the future jb will run.
So it might run, but if it's useful is another question...
Nevertheless it would be awesome to see it running on the gio.
Also does it need to run on it's own or is it possible to run it on top of the android kernel? If this is the case then it becomes rather easy as we have enough stable android kernels for the gio.
Marcin, is that the purpose of the link you posted?

I think it's Android based, it uses AOSP repo besided Linaro repo and Mozzila repo!
Code:
<remote name="aosp"
fetch="https://android.googlesource.com/" />

Of course not. It's based on android, so the core shares a lot with the core of android. This doesn't make it android.
The whole os is (except for the core stuff) web based, which probably means all apps need to be written in html 5 or maybe other web standards.
So android apk apps don't work, and so it makes no sence including them.

Here are sources for android ICS on GIO. Since the manifest uses android 4.0.4 I think you may need to use some things from this (don't forget to mention Maclaw and Marcin if you do).
Soon this will be updated to JB I think, I don't know if FFOS works with JB as well or it specifically needs ICS though.
About firefox OS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox_OS
So it's not entirely android based. It only uses some parts for some of the hardware.
thanks for the sourches
It's based android. Because s2 users can install it.

How much android is really in it? Mozilla made it so that it can run on devices that run android. So they probably just mean ARM with a certain ammount of ram etc...
Wikipedia says it's a linux kernel, some components of android for hardware communication, mozilla's own api's for app -> hardware communication such as phone, cam, speakers etc, and last but not least the gecko engine.
So if the kernel used is the same as the one used for android then you could use maclaw (and team)'s ICS kernel + the android stuff needed, merged with the b2g sources.
I'm not really a dev so it's probably a lot harder then what I'm saying here. But I think it's easier then a fully fledged android...
Were you able to boot something already?
After the April Fools prank (MOD), I started looking for an alternative to CM and I not found any pure AOSP.
I wonder how many people would like to have AOSP ROM?
Is there any developer willing to build for us? Thanks

Check out Exodus ROM. It's AOSP based and in the early stages of development, so it's fairly vanilla until now.

nope...
google edition rom is just a skinned stock 5.0.2 rom, debloated and with a google apps instead of some LG stock ones (i.e. google dialer, google contacts,...)
I found one ROM almost pure AOSP but dont have for our G2.
github.com/AOSPB
That plus CM device tree, I dont think it would be very difficult.
I would like to try, but I have an old PC.
