Hi Guys,
I'm novice at this so ignore my ignorance.
I have 1.48 WWE installed on my HD2 and I was considering it flashing with the new release ... I think 1.66.
But I really dont want to go through the hassle of installing all the programs back onto my device unless it's worth it.
Is there anybody who can tell me what's new in the 1.66 version and is it worth upgrading .... I'm not a heavy application bur rather a simple user and I hate troubleshooting
So if you think its not worthwhile upgrading can you please let me know.
Any feedback will be welcome.
Cheers
Wolfy
Might help if you let people know what region you are...
Region - UK and the version used is the WWE one.
Cheers
If you´re fine with what you have, no need to flash.
The 1.66 ROM series bring all the hotfixes and updates which you might have installed already - in case you have to perform a hard reset, you would not have to install all those. There are other differences such as an updated Radio ROM version, but most of them are "under the hood" and not visible.
Many people here flash custom ROMs to get some more free memory space, or maybe another Manila/Sense functionality, but you will not find this kind of "big" difference between the official 1.43/48 and 1.66 ROMs anyway.
But, again, if you are fine with the stock ROM, there is no need to flash.
I have 2 HD2 phones now.
One is 1.48 ROM and other is 1.66 ROM
THe only difference I see is 1.66 show more memory. It says 448 Mb while 1.48 show less.
Not sure why...
Oh, I after hard reset memory is same on both phones. Now, I don't know the difference anymore
Hey guys, so I'm attempting to flash a custom ROM for the first time on my hd2, let alone any phone. I've read through all of the guidelines, and have already installed HSPL on my phone. I'm planning on installing the newest available energy ROM, however, I notice that it's recommended that TMOUS users flash the radio rom to 2.07.50, though it's not necessary. First off, for those of you who have flashed it to 2.07.50, are there advantages? On my stock phone, the radio rom is showing as 2.10.531.1, which I'm not seeing anywhere else in this forum. If for some reason, I do want to revert my phone back to the essential stock form, including the radio ROM, would I be able to do that? If so, I guess I'd have to find the stock 2.10.531.1 radio rom too right? I'm also assuming that there is the TMOUS stock ROM available on this forum if I want to revert everything back to flash, correct? Sorry for all the questions, but as a first time flasher, I'm trying to be cautious!
Thanks!
2.10.531.1 is you os version (rom) not your radio
You're right, that was referring to the ROM itself, not the radio rom. In any case, do any of you still recommend flashing my radio rom from what it is now (2.08.50.08_2) to 2.07.50? And lastly, where would I find the stock ROM and stock radio ROM on this forum in case I wanted to revert my phone back to stock form? I'm guessing that once I have those stock ROMs, flashing from the energy ROM to the stock ROM would be the same exact process?
Hey all, I think I actually have it figured out now. Let me know if this sounds right to you. To go from a custom ROM to the original stock ROM (2.10.531.1) I would first download the "2.10.1 *no stock SPL" ROM from the stickied http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653. I am assuming that 2.10.1 is short for 2.10.531.1. After downloading 2.10.1 I would use customRUU.exe to flash back to the stock rom. To change my radio back to the stock 2.08.50.08_2, I would simply do the same by downloading the file, and again use customRUU.exe to go back to radio 2.08.50.08_2. Lastly, to get back to the original SPL, I would run HSPL2 and choose option SPL 2.08.0000 to revert back. After all of this, my phone would be back to bone stock, correct? I am just making sure that I've got it down before tampering with my beauty! Thanks guys.
P.S. - Anybody have an answer to my original post's question about downgrading my current radio to Energy's preferred 2.07.50? Is it worth it?

there is a thread is the beginning of the HD2 forum for radios...
Yeah, I saw the thread for radio roms too, but I am wanting to know specifically if people have any input on whether or not it's really worth it to change my stock radio rom to use with the energy ROM?

No need to change your radio. Keep the one you have. Flashing radios is by far more dangerous than flashing ROMs. Just make sure when you are flashing ROMs that it is compatible with the TMobile USA and you will be fine.
Thread closed. PM me if you need further assistance.
Sorry really to be a pain here, but if someone does not mind, can they explain to me ROM, Radio and HSPL? I think i know that ROM is the software running on your phone. but it that version number increased everytime someone make a custom ROM out from an official one?
Radio as far as i know is for wifi, radio, etc. is this correct ? And final we have HSPL, now what do need that for, and for what use it is?
I am ofcourse asking these questions because i started to look at all the nice ROM's out there and not sure if i should stick to what im doing and keep going for the higher numbers. Would be very happy if someone could quickly explain them all properly and then maybe guide me to other links where i can read more...
Thank you in advance...
SPL - Secondary Program Loader - Think of it as the BIOS of your phone. It starts the operating system loading, and when you flash it verifies cid and region locks.
HSPL - Hard Secondary Program Loader - This is the creation of Bepe and Cotulla and Co. and is a hacked version of the official SPL that bypasses the checks when you flash a rom. It requires SPL 1.42.0000 on your phone to use.
This is the only version that works for telstra phones.
HSPL2 - is an upgrade to HSPL that allows witching between most of the available SPL's, and also their HSPL equivalents. (So if you want to install cooked roms, you might choose 2.08.HSPL, whilst if you want to go back to official, you would choose 1.42.0000 in the HSPL2 dropdown)
HSPL1024 - Is HSPL specific to the tmous hd2.
hardware ROM - The Read Only Memory of the phone. Think of it as the hard disk in your device. This is your storage memory.
'the' rom - When we talk about flashing roms, we mean the file that installs the whole operating system on your phone. This file is 'flashed' to the rom storage space, where it installs itself. After it finishes configuring itself, whatever is left is your available storage memory. (usually around 180 meg on a standard hd2)
Official ROMS have version numbers such as 1.66 , 1.72. 2.10.
Version numbers of cooked roms are meaningless. They only apply to that chefs roms. He/She applies versions as they see fit, however you can get a fair bit of info from the ro mthread title.
Example, they will usually tell you the base of the rom, i.e what stock rom was used as a base, 1.66, or 2.10 for example, and also the windows build version, (the 5 digit 21xxx number, i dont know whats what with those, but the higher ones are winmo 6.5.x) and more as you get used to reading them.
radio hardware - The different models have different actual hardware that connects to the mobile network. That is why you cant get 3g on at&t with a T Mo USA hd2. No matter what software radio you flash, the hardware is wrong.
radio rom - The radio software sits between windows mobile and the hardware. It controls the hardware based on what you want to do. There are all kinds of reports of better/worse battery life, connection strength, sound quality results when flashing digfferent radios.
flashing a radio does NOT require a hard reset, so wont affect your install.
Some roms (example the 576 meg enabled roms) require specific radios, read the rom posts for info.
The big danger with radio flashing is only applicable to tmous users, , if they flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number, their phone dies.
A useful read. I hope you got a thank you...
heh, well i got one now, cheers,
Dear Samsamuel !
Tx a lot ! Although I study this forum now since I am a HD2 owner (who never flashed a cooked ROM) I start to understand these cryptic topic now by Your explanations, making me more brave to try it once. Tx
The only thing I still can´t figure out is: WTF are the REAL differences of the stock-ROMS eg. what EXACTLY is changed between ROM 1.43 WWE, 1.48 WWE, 1.66 WWE, 1.72 (no WWE methinks).
I got so far to understand that some ROM-upgrades are just earlier ROMs with all the following patches included, but some are a major switch from WM 6.5 to 6.5.x and Sense 2.5.19xxxx to 2xxxx, giving new features like rotation in all Sense-Screens.
Plz, get me right, I spend all bad-weather-weekends hours and hours reading in the ROM-cooker-section, read XDA on my HD at airports and train stations but the shere mass of info provided - a little bit here, an info there - prevents me to get the WHOLE picture. There is a thread about which ROMs are officially out till now but with NO Info about the differences between them and which is a major UPGRADE (WM 6.5 to 6.5.x, Sense 1xxx to 2xxxx) and which is simply a better working "older" ROM.
I got my HD 2 now by the help of the geniousses here (You, Cookie, netripper, Moonah, netdrg, BsB, TX, metaldetector-lady and, and, and -and SKTools ) to work perfectly, smooth and without any fault but still would like some features like full rotational capab of Sense, which is provided by later ROMS. BUT WHICH ROM IS THIS ?
Maybe someone could add some infos ´bout that as a sticky thread ?? to decide wether to flash or not to flash when a new official ROM is issued by HTC, cause every ROM upgrade causes a hell of a work to make the HD2 work as smooth and flawless as before (I have now about 50 apps installed and configured to my needs).
Tx for Your understanding
windows 6.5, 6.5.x
when you flash a rom does it matter for these?
what if you want 6.5.x but currently have 6.5?
how does that work?
which rom do you like for the t-mous hd2 and why?
which rom has the least bugs, good battery life, and fast?
6.5 is what u hav now, 6.5.x only differs from the start menu going from the top of the screen to the bottom of it alsowen dealin with the newer roms 6.5.x usaly has the most updated software.... now always keep in mind to research the info before making a new thread, the reason for this is because when u go into a cooked rom thread all the info u need and pictures of the rom is in the thread... and please read before u do anything to your device
but i was wondering, if you flash a 6.5.x rom onto your 6.5 after you hspl will it still work or will it brick?? im not really sure about the whole flashing thing yet it still confuses me

when you flash, your current rom is completely wiped so it doesn't matter what version it is.

so to my understanding on flashing, you first hspl your phone then download your rom and radio first you flash radio then rom?
if you downgrade from 2.13 to 2.10.0 to hspl your phone, and you flash via micro sd, there isnt a possible way to brick your phone right? :/

doesnt really matter what order you flash them because you have a tmous, so the rom will work with any tmous radio, including the one already on your phone, and if there isnt a tmous radio on your phone then its already bricked
You probably learned that re: the normal leo, where the rom doesnt boot until the radio is flashed, but doesnt affect tmous.

Heh, theres always a chance, just like theres a chance you will fall over in the bathroom and break your neck whilst brushing your teeth, , , , , , hehe.
Make sure you have plenty of charge in your battery, and dont mess with it whilst its flashing, and it should be fine.

so whe i downgrade back to 2.10, you just install the rom right? and if your radio is 2.10 its fine right?
your radio should work fine with most of the roms that you install. If a particular rom requires a specific radio version 1 of 2 things will happen. 1) The chef will include it in the rom or 2) the chef will state the radio version needed as a recomendation. Sometimes a specific radio version will work better where as a different radio version may affect reception, battery life among other things. You can't however get whatever radio version you feel like because some radios are location specific (no need for a portuguese radio when you live in Chicago) Go to the XDA-Wiki and look for radios. They have a table explaining each radio version, it's carrier and it's location. Best of luck on journey through flashing. It is an exciting one.

go for it, you are flashing a tmous rom onto a tmous phone with a tmous radio 1 - included in the rom and 2 - already on the phone. It will alllll be fine.
Just wondering, what rom are you flashing? I understand your anxiety about flashing. Took me couple of months to get the courage to do so. I was afraid to brick my precious TP2.
howdy all, im new to the forum havent really had a chance to have much of a browse yet.
have had my hd2 for a while now and tbh im no overly impressed with it, whether or not that's just me not being able to get to grips with it im unsure of, but it always seems to be glitching, takes a while to do anything locks up quite a lot many problems.
just wondering is there anyway of making the whole thing run more smoothly?
any help would be greatly appreciated, and bare with me as im so out of touch with phones nowadays.
Well I assume you are still using the stock Windows Mobile ROM. Do this go to Settings>About Phone>Software Information and tell us what ROM and radio you have right now as I bet you are not on the most recent ROM as the older Windows Mobile ROMs were unstable.
it says im running
rom version 1.43.110.2 (70315) wwe
radio version 2.04.50.22_2

T-Macgnolia was right your HD2 is running stock from way back from launch day...
The latest radio is 2.15.50 while the latest stock rom is somewhere in the 3.0 range
If you want to stick with stock try flashing the latest T-mobile / HTC update... make sure you backup anything and everything because you never know what might happen.
Yeah you are running a much older ROM. I can also tell from that ROM version you are using a EU HD2. Go to HTC.com and looks for ROM upgrades and then enter your serial number that is behind the battery and see what the latest ROM version for your HD2. If it says you can use a 3.14 ROM download it and flash it to your HD2. They should have some instructions on the HTC site telling you how to do this. It is simple really come post back here if you have questions. Also you can flash a custom ROM from here on on XDA, you can run Android from your SD card if you want while still having Windows Mobile on your HD2, you can flash Android to your HD2 doing away with Windows Mobile (I run Android right now), and you can flash Windows Phone 7 to your HD2 of you want. But try out a better stock ROM first as it will give you some experience flashing a ROM. Take a look a my guide in my signature as it will teach you some about what I just mentioned, and AI have links to guides on how to install Android or Windows Phone 7.
