Remote desktop issue - HD2 General

Why can I not connect remotely if I have windows 7 home premium on my host PC. Please let me know if there are any other free remote desktop solutions for winmobile that will work with win 7 home premium.

http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/p/80044/397067.aspx

Windows Home Premium does not have the HOST version of Remote Desktop only the Client or viewer. You need Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional to have the Host version of Remote Desktop.
Good news is, there is a hack available that allows you to add Remote Desktop Connection Host to Windows Home Premium. Try Googling something like "no RDC in Home Premium" or "no Remote Desktop Connection Home Premium"

remote desktop?

hi, does anyone know of a free remote desktop program? with file management?... RDM+ is awesome, but is only a 7 day trial... no reg thingy's anywhere for it either. needs to be able to run on vista premium... windos mobile remote desktop etc require business or ultimate editions of vista and don't think it has file management.
best regards,
Joel
Check RealVNC http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/index.html
You should try some search in forum, there is a link for Remote Desktop for Windows Mobile 6 and Real VNC for Pocket PC somewhere.

remote desktop ? in home 7 premium

Hi
can I use Remote Desktop on Windows 7 Home?
I followed those steps
http://pocketnow.com/how-to/tutorial-setting-up-remote-desktop-in-windows-mobile
but it didn't work, is this because I am using Windows 7 Home?
Regards,
Remote desktop server is a feature of:
XP Pro
XP Media Centre/Tablet PC (as these are XP Pro)
Vista Business/Enterprise/Ultimate
7 Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate
It is NOT present in XP Home, Vista Home Premium, 7 Home Premium
These "home editions" can however act as a remote desktop CLIENT and connect to a server running one of the above versions.
I'd suggest VNC for you instead.
There is a hack out that apparently works, allowing Remote Desktop HOST capability on Home line. I don't have the link in front of me, since I run Ultimate. I'll have a look once I get home and post a link, unless someone beats me to it.
Thanks Nemeth782
I am looking for this ... sounds as good alternative option
Nighthawk
Even better, if I can have the link ... this would save me time and effort and $$$
http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html - Server Side
There are freeware viewers/clients such as:
http://freewareppc.com/docs/netvncviewer.shtml
If you were to google "realvnc windows mobile" I'm sure you'd also find some alternatives...
Thanks Nemeth782
I may go for anytime upgrade windows 7 prof .. student price .. this would my best option
I got remote desktop running in Home Premium 64bit using Concurrent_RDP_Win7_RTM_patcher.

Controlling PC Remote Desktop

Hello
I am able to connect to my PC via the htc remote desktop application.
How do I stop it logging out the current user? This happens even when logging on with the same account.
I am trying to use my phone as a PC mouse to open file videos etc, so need to see the desktop at the same time on my phone.
Does anyone have a better way of doing this. I have tried logmein but this website does not allow me to select anything using the touch screen, although I can view the desktop fine.
Thanks
It's not possible to see on both with remote desktop.
You should look into VNC. Or if you don't need to have the screen on the phone but just mouse/keyboard controls there's G-Remote.
You could also try logmein.com - it is great!
ADC
I use Mocha VNC.
You can try the following website, this shows how to allow concurrent remote desktop sessions, it is geared towards windows 7 but its a start...

Also, that method doesn't let you see the same desktop on the phone as on the pc, , , both are logged on, yes, and (example) files saved to the desktop will both be seen, however one wouldn't see the same windows media player as the other, and indeed you would have trouble with both logins running (some of) the same program together.
I know this because i have both vista and win7 installs that have had concurrent logins enabled, which I didfor exactly the same reason as OP, heh, it didn't work. Hah.
Something like the "Logitech Touch Mouse" app for the iTouch/Phone would be cool on a Windows Mobile platform.
More info about it http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/control-your-pc-with-the-logitech-touch-mouse-iphone-app-2010021/
When I'm in bed, I'd like to be able to control my PC with my phone as if it were a TV remote controller or in other words a wireless mouse+keyboard.

It's exactly it, plus a lot more like g-sensor support, direct media player control, etc. Search for it on here.
Hi all, first-time poster here, although long-time admirer of the excellent work that goes on here.
This thread has compelled me to post as a winmo version of this "Logitech Touch Mouse" app would be a really handy to control my media pc at home, as well as the Skype conferencing machine at work in place of the bulky and ugly wireless keyboard we currently use.

where do you get realvnc from
where can i download realnvc?
is it a freeware??
I too have been trying to figure this out. What I found out is that for remote desktop, you need to have windows vista/7 Professional. Windows Vista Home will not allow you to have your computer controlled from your phone.
Yes its freeware
This is the link to the viewer and server for your PC
http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi
Now I must say im using XP, I HAVE VNC'd into vista and win7 PCs using the view on my tp2. However on one machine running Win7 I couldnt get the PC to recognize the server app. As of right now I simply use the wifirouter on my tp2, connect to its network and use the assigned IP to log in. RealVNC also allows WAP logins but I havent messed with it simply because I dont really need to lol.
In any case, here's the .cab for our phone attached.

I believe the reason for this is that the "Home" editions of Vista and 7 don't let you join a domian (that's one of the things M$ wants you to upgrade for), which as I understand it is necessary for a remote desktop connection.

You kidding me? VNC is a mess compared to Remote Desktop.
With RD, you get the closest thing possible to having a full fledged desktop computer on your phone. And it is pretty damn close.
Honestly when I'm at home and my phone is connected to the wifi network, more often than not I prefer to use it as a mere dummy terminal interface to my main computer.
Remote Desktop + any desktop web browser absolutely destroys every mobile browser ever created. Entire web pages load instantly and somehow look exactly like they would on a regular computer! Hell, you even get Flash support (a bit choppy but it's something).
And the Rhodiums screen resolution gives more than enough room for most web pages to render without the need to zoom out.
Remote Desktop even allows you to easily transfer files wirelessly between your phone and computer by mapping a drive on it that links to your phones file system.
The only thing I'd say against it is that it can be difficult to click on small targets even with the stylus.
I do sympathize with users who run a Windows version without the Remote Desktop Service built in. RDP is probably one of the very few good reasons to get Pro or above versions of Windows.

Windows Vista Home edition does not include Windows Remote Desktop therefore quite obviously you cannot connect to your laptop via your phone, gotta get professional or ultimate for that.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...ther-computer-using-Remote-Desktop-Connection
Read "notes"
but, of course there are hacks to make it work fine lol it is included in service pack 1 but is not "labeled" try this
Steps to Add Remote Desktop to Vista Home Premium:
1. Download termsrv.zip here
2. Extract Termsrv.zip to a temp directory
3. Start “Command Prompt” in Administrator mode (right click Run As Administrator) it in in Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories, just right click on it
4. Run the corresponding batch file for your Vista edition (if you extracted it to your desktop then it will be C:\Users\[enter user name]\Desktop\Premium
5. Allow TCP Port 3389 on Windows Firewall or any other firewall product if needed
6. Done
(just tested on Windows Vista Home Premium and it worked fine)
(dont forget to reboot)

Could not find server, which is wiers cause all my pcs are interconnected, i can control any one of them from any PC
I guess a good place to start would be to try pinging the computer you want to connect to. You can do that with dotFreds Task Manager. You are trying to connect on a LAN correct?

I messed around with this earlier and couldnt get it to work. My pc is running windows 7 ultimate 64bit edition. I'm almost positive I had all the settings correct but I was trying to connect to my pc which was connected wirelessly to the router. Would this not work? If not how would one go abouts doing this without a lan connection? I'd love to get this baby working and am willing to be a guinea pig so that hopefully we can get a procedure together for all others
after trying remote desktop mobile to make it work i just give up!!!
try this go to www.logmein.com make a free account download logmein software to you laptop install the free softwares !
install cab to tp2
use the two files below.
1. Install XDA first, reboot,
2. install IEtoggle, open IEtoggle, switch IE to PIE,
3.start up IE and sign into logmein.
This worked for me. the only thing is not working is the keyboard
keyboard problems go here !! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444641 it might work !

I routinely use the RDP client on my phone to connect to my desktop computer over wifi LAN. Although my computer is hardwired to the network.
Are you able to remote desktop to your pc with another computer?
Did you select the "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop" option in the System Properties:Remote dialog?
Could there be some 3rd party firewall software you are running that might be blocking the RDP port?
Also, I've found that when having network issues especially involving wifi, often reseting your router to its default settings, and if necessary upgrading the firmware can help.

Remote control of Windows 7 PC

OK, so I am pottering around the house, having vacated my (home) office chair. I sit down to watch telly but wait! The urge to log into my PC upstairs has become overwhelming! Rather than lift my fat arse off the sofa, is there an app that can log into my PC (dual monitor setup) and control it from my petite Nexus 7?
Jon
There are many apps to remotely control your Windows PC from Android. TeamViewer, Splashtop Remote are my 2 favs. Usability is limited unless you have a stylus or really small hands (or change the N7 resolution somehow). I do this to control my Windows 7 HTPC. As for dual monitors, you'll only get the main display on your Nexus.

Splashtop Remote is my favorite app to use. When using the app to controll your home computer. There will be a option to change which monitor to view.
Sent from my Nexus 7
RealVNC
Many options...
Remote Desktop if you're not running a home version
RealVNC
LogMeIn
Splashtop
Wyse Pocket Cloud
I use a mix of the first three. Remote Desktop for servers, RealVNC for home machines I don't need internet access to, and LogMeIn for my main home and work desktops so I can easily access them from any where.
