Great site! Come check it out!
I would like a howto explaining how to uninstall system apps (e.g. the mp3 store, the email app). I don't use it and would like to uninstall them, but I don't know how!

Just wanted to say EXCELLENT video tutorials - I used these to root and flash my virgin nexus one yesterday. HOWEVER, you should make a note that you need to wipe before flashing cynaogen (I got stuck in the boot screen and was freaking out). Doing a wipe fixed this...
Great site & very good video tutorials! Keep it up...
Great Site
I love it, i love it. I wish this was around when i got my g1.

+1, I have been rooting phones since the day the G1 came out. I have to say that theunlockr.com site makes rooting practically noob proof. I have used it once or twice when setting up my drivers for SDK/ADB and was very impressed.
Honestly, I wish that XDA would create a section of "How To" videos for rooting the devices that theunlockr.com showcases. This would make rooting much easier for noobs.
This gets my vote for "STICKY"!

Eris ROM spreadsheet and Root how to

I put this together because I thought it would be nice to have a step by step how to on root, without all the confusing options. This is how I rooted, and I'm not saying it's the only way, but IMO the simplest.
I also put all the common ROM info in one spreadsheet. I put some of the common things people need to know on there, like is it a 2.2 or does it have sense. Feel free to add or edit your favorite ROM on the list. Or if you have anythings I should add let me know.

thanks,

Not bad at all. I really like the format you used, simple and concise. Each ROM seems to have it's own instructions but they all pretty much say the say thing. I would recommend your instructions to anyone.
Are you open to suggestions? One thing you might want to add is an FAQ or troubleshooting section. When I first learned about rooting and installing new ROMs I was always running into little issues that most of us now take for granted.

Newb needs help..

Okay, got my Epic because I heard it is easier to root, and I like the keyboard. First off, I rooted my hero and it was supper easy, is there anything like that for the epic? Also, the hero had a flash program I can run to take it back to OEM settings, is there something out there like that for the epic. Next, what is a good stable ROM that has some of the OEM progrmas and looks. I want to upgrade to froyo but not sure how.
Thanks for all the help.
Dan

Opinion: Try the ROMs 'til you find what you like. Just because I prefer Quantum 2.7 doesn't mean it's the best. Basically, all a ROM is a person who got their phone working the way they want it and dumped the image for others to use (like I said, BASIC definition). It's not magical and they can't fix any of the problems with the OS itself but they do usually have workarounds in their ROMs.
I just recently rooted and put a new rom on. Read a bunch and tried a couple and stuck with the Bonsai rom. Love it. Waaayy better then stock. Really not that hard and all the info is out there just a simple search and the wiki helped me immensely.
check out the developement section. the first page will have everything youre looking for
All you have to do is read bro. Its all here for you. If you have a question with a certain step then ask but you need to read a little bit.

[Q] Verizon Droid Skin on HTC Evo

I don't know if skin is the right term or not, so apologies in advance if it's not.
I saw a friend user her Verizon Droid today and was very impressed by the native look and feel of her apps--everything from her Settings menu to her Mail menu.
Is there a way to get this same functionality on the HTC EVO?
ROM would be the correct term in this case.
I'm sure you're referring to the Moto Droid which uses motoblur which is nearly AOSP (Android Open Source Project). AOSP is the operating system that google created and you can find it on their devices like the nexus one and nexus S. HTC modifies the operating system (called Sense). To get the AOSP look and feel you have to root your evo and flash a new rom to it. Its a bit intimidating at first but unrevoked and recovery images make it easy as pie. I would be happy to walk you through the steps if you want to start flashing some custom Roms.
Thanks for the terminology correction--much appreciated.
I actually already rooted and Cyanogen running. I've been too scared to go to another ROM, but if it's not too difficult, I'd appreciate the guidance!

Help locating binaries for rooting HTC Glacier myTouch 4G

"Help, I can't find the binaries I need to root!"
"WTF? After the video captcha, I can't get VISIONary+?!"
"Where should a noob start?"
Hi, I'm Joslloyd. I'm new here. I've been tinkering with Android and have really seen a lot of benefit from reading XDA. So, first, one big thank you to the community here. Thank you for helping me hack my HTC HD2, Kindle Fire 1st Gen, Moto MB525, and now HTC Glacier myTouch 4G.
An obvious question: "Why didn't you post this over in the Developer area, fool?" tn;cp Too new, couldn't post.
An annoyance. I can't link URLs because I'm new. Derp.
I had a bit of trouble getting started. What to read? What to do? Where do I get those damned binaries?!
I have made a download available that has the tools, binaries, and guides I followed to get my unit rooted and set up with a new ROM.
-> joshlloyd dot org slash files
For starters, I'm releasing HTC Glacier MyTouch 4G - Release Lite.zip.
Why release this file? I had trouble locating some of the binaries I needed, especially VISIONary+. In some cases there were multiple versions to choose from.
What is in this download? My download folder of items I needed in order to root my device. My platform-tools folder from my 64-bit Windows install of the ADT. PDF prints of the pages I read.
What is not included? (My file and the following should be all you need.)
Google ADT
Dark JellyBelly Rom
Google Apps Update
Glacier Stock ROM Download
If the Glacier Stock ROM download location goes stale, I can post my copy of this binary.
You can feel free to use a different ROM than the one I chose. I had no trouble with the installation and use of Dark JellyBelly by ...Awesome...
I hope that this helps others get more out of their device. A lot of other people made this possible, all I did was download binaries, do some reading, follow a process, and then tell you about it. All real credit goes to the developers of the tools used.
