If you installed an Orange RUU, your Hero wasn't rooted anymore!

Hi guys as the title says I'm receiving a replacement HD2 tomorrow whilst giving my old one in and I'm afraid I'll get in trouble if I give in one with a 1.61 ROM. I flashed it with 1.61 using the goldcard method and I just tried running the normal installer for the 1.43 stock Vodafone ROM but I get this error:
"this update utility cannot be used for your pda phone..." Surely I don't need to use the goldcard method for the stock ROM do I?
Also can I use the same 1.61 goldcard for my new HD2?
Quick answers appreciated as I need to do this before tomorrow! Thank you very much for your help
Assistance (I hope)
Hi I am a newbee but the RUU_Leo_Vodafone_UK_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship is available as a link somewhere on the site.
I have just HSPL my voda leo and as part of the instructions from
DFT, bepe and Cotulla you should do the following to revert...
Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button
Hope this helps...

http://rapidshare.com/files/3260420...dio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship.exe
Thanks for your help guys, I'll see how I get on, the rapdishare link is down for the moment which is annoying though...
If worst comes to worse I'll just have to send it back with the 1.1 ROM, surely they wont find out then come back to my house and take the newer replacement off me?
I'll let you know how I get on, though might need more help in a minute given my track record!!

As far as i know/read into it,
The goldcard you used already will work again, You might need to reformat and hexedit again before it will work as that is what i had to do on 2nd rom update.
Rapidshare works now

Rapidshare is always busy, especially in the evening (CET). Keep hitting the F5 button in your browser, and you'll get lucky. Otherwise, get up early tomorrow and download will not be a problem. Alternatively google for the file name, someone somewhere could have it
Aaand done. That was unbelievably painless. All I did was plug my phone in via USB and double click the ROM file I downloaded off rapidshare, then it worked like a charm didn't have to do a thing!! Thanks for all your help guys, these forums are amazing!
Hi, appolgies for being completly stupid, If someone can help me i will be very grateful!
I have an orange network locked hero. After getting tired of waiting I attempted to debrand by installing the generic HTC rom ...
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver
With the idea of installing and letting the OTA update occur...
So i installed goldcard tool created and image. and then installed the htc image.
2.1 is now installed but have the network locked message.
I considered trying to unlock via one of the vendors on ebay, but decided it probably wouldnt work so decided to roll back to the orange rom.
By mistake I ran this update which i believe is the HTC 2.1 update
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed
Now when i try an run the orange uk 2.73.61.66 release I am getting an error message 140 bootloader version error.
The phone isnt rooted, is there any way I can roll back or unlock 2.1. Am i going to have to call orange an confess?
Please help!!!!
Leigh
There is a STICKY at the top of the G2 Hero Development section called Villain Roots 2.1 RUU,.. tried that?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
By doing this would it allow me to reflash the original orange image?
Sorry for being dim, finding all this a bit confusing!
root it via that guide, put in a radio that works with orange sim cards, and you should be good to go
Use this guide: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=2096
Once done you can reflash the original official orange release.
Apologies for being thick...
So I have gsm root running, phone in recovery. What do i do next?
Do i have to flash the rom on using nandroid - never used this before.
try this method - its easier
tinyurl DOT com/3242ljv
you'l need to remake the link as newbies cant post links
Tried the simplified version.
When I try and run the zip file it says it cannot open the file and says it is bad.
Tried a couple of times and with both orange updates..
Arghhh!
Try using a different SD card - hboot couldn't find HEROIMG.zip on one card, tried another and hey presto!
Well in the process of trying to get the orange 1.5 build back on i have got 2.1 working!
Tried flashing an older radio on there and gues what it works. I've now got the standard htc 2.1 build on an orange uk contract, network locked handset.
Quite pleased with myself!

Hi,
Please could you give us the radio version you installed, and how you did it. You'll find the version under Settings > About Phone > Software information > Baseband version.
Many thanks,
The radio version i'm using is
update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06_6.35.05.15-signed
I tried the one before that also which worked.(Basically I started from the oldest one and worked my way up)
I tried the two most recent ones first and these didn't work (Network Locked)
Hope that helps
I've noticed Orange have started rolling out the preupdate, think i might as well stick with the htc build.
Cheers
Hi, I'm going out of my mind trying to get to 2.1 but I need to update to the .66 from February.
I'm using Windows 7 32bit and once or twice I have managed to get the phone to start to update but it comes back with error 170. I've tried everything I can think of. Downloaded the drivers and updated but in Device Manager I have either 'HTC Dream ADB Composite Interface' or in disk drives 'HTC Android Phone USB'.
Is there any way I can boot the update from my SD card?
Any help will be fantastic.
I'm having this exact same problem, tried updating the drivers but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
Greetings folks,
Try the following :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7404108&postcount=94
Make sure you have the right settings under " USB debugging "
Settings - Applications - Development
Or why not root and use another rom like SenseHero B5.1
This is the one i like the most by far,
Means you have to downgrade your ROM version to 2.73.61.5Â

Nice and easy to follow and ever time i go back to a RRU file from orange only ever lasts about 2 days at the most,

Thanks for the reply Steven.
Can I just clarify that if I follow the www.theunlockr.com method by rooting the phone I can then load the official .66 firmware? If this is the way to do it, where can I get that firmware from?
To be honest, I'm not wanting to put on any other custom firmwares and I want to update to the HTC official 2.1 firmware only.
Thanks again for any help.

No no rooting was only to use custom roms,
How ever if it comes to it flash to another rom and then back to .66
First you need to get orange RRU ROM version 2.73.61.5 from
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=675
Flash this and on first boot you should get a message to advise of a update,
No need to finish setting the phone up but go a head with the download,
Once downloaded it will flash a new radio and reboot,
Then you should have .66
I was still trying to get 2.1 from orange last night,
Ever time i asked it to check for updates it said it was up to date all ready yet still on 15
Back to using a custom rom again today,
Hope your able to get sorted soon folks.
Sorted. Updated it with my mates laptop running Vista. Updating to 2.1 now. THANK GOD!!!

Hello,
I just got myself a new Desire HD from eBay to replace my HD2. Unfortunatly when I got it it was branded to t-mobile even though auction said it was new, sealde and unlocked.
I have managed to permroot it. What do I need to do now? I tried to run the HTC latest firmwas for this device and comes up with error131 wrong customer ID.
My knoledge is very basic about this so any help would be grateful.
Thanks
Robert
If the phone wasn't as described then return it. Was it sealed in its box?
Can you make & receive calls?
If your trying to flash a Stock HTC ROM over a T-Mobile branded/locked DHD you will get an error.
Hi thanks for reply.
Yeah the phone did not say in auction that it wasbranded just unlocked and sealed. When I got it I could see that it had been opened as the tape that was used to seal the box wasn't sticky anymore and it had been inserted the wrong way round. It has obviously been opened to unlock it.
As the phone is unlocked I thought I thought I would be able to flash any stock rom onto it that is avaliable. I really don't want t-mobile logos on startup and there apps when I have a vodaphone sim.
Thanks again.
If you want a generic HTC ROM you will need to root & S-OFF your DHD. Guides are available in the Dev section.
If you need any help just let us know. There are quite a few friendly people round here.
Hay thanks for the reply !!
I managed to do the permroot thing. I was reading up on anything I had to do else. Which guide would you recomend to do the S-Off? Can I just run the HTC.exe rom then to install it?
I was also reading up on something called supercid do I need to do this as well?
Thanks so much!! It saves me loads of hassle trying to return it. That and am phoneless without it at the moment lol
Robert
Hello
Would just like to say thanks I managed to get the stock HTC rom on the DHD thanks too the help on here.
Was just curious do I need to reactivate the S-OFF to go back to S-On i presume? If I did that would I still be able to install new stock roms when they come out now there is a stock rom on phone?
Thanks so much again. This phone is great Android is so much better supported that Windows Mobile!

No problem at all.
If you flashed the Stock HTC ROM from the RUU, then it will have Security On (S-ON) If you want to flash a custom ROM, then you will need to go through the whole procedure again, but flash a custom recovery (Clockwork Mod), to make the the whole process safer and easier.
