Imagio features - Imagio General

My Touch pro dies on me yesterday and I am now looking for a new phone.
When TP was released, GPS was locked on it and 3rd party SW did not work on it until VZW released MR1 for it.
Does anyone know if Imagio supports 3rd party GPS right out of the box or does that need a fix too? Also, is there an advantage to Touch Pro2 over Imagio except for the keyboard?
Right now I am trying to decide between Imagio/TP2 or Droid Eris.

Mine works fine with Google Maps, Garmin XT, Bing, Weather Bug, and GPS Radar. I don't think I did anything. Maybe had to change the Location setting from 911 to "Location ON".

Imagio Features
The GPS works out of the box. I have installd CoPilot Live v.8 and it works very well. I suppose it is conceivable that I am biased . . . but I think this is the perfect phone.

Yeah, no problems with "open GPS." I went with the Imagio because it's got better features.

shift GPS

hi all
is it true the shift's GPS is blocked ?
can someone confirm ?
if so, what can be done to use TOMTOM on it ?
please advise
Thanks
Not blocked, just not there.
that blows ....
i was about to order one...
oh well, i guess ill just stick to my advantage x7500...
thanks.
By the way I'm using TomTom on my universal but I'm not comfortable to use TOMTOM. I have to enter specific information to use search function, even doesn't have that much result even I paid.
and Tomtom can't navigate to extra number of address like 85-89156 ****HWY.
only can navigate 85 ****hwy. and I Think tomtom's brain doesn't work well when it calculate the root.
I Have navtech for my ipaq, that's works so great. On the shift, even I have to buy a external battery pack or maybe SSD to extend battery life, I'm going to use navigation by microsoft on Vista for best result. cuz I'm use navigation for my job!
If before u buy tomtom, u should buy other one...

Shift has a qualcomm 7200 inside and this is the same chip used by kaiser. This chip has gps inside, as you can see in documentation or in video. Once we can put wm6 full on it we wiil be able to install any navigator and make use ot if....
If the antenna is installed, that is....
I believe if you look at the exposed internal photos of the Shift on the FCC website, they clearly define a GPS antenna. I don't know that it means that it has GPS for sure but it points to that direction.

I was under the impression the qualcom didnt make it to the final production model and that the Shift just has the one processor?

I cant see it mentioned in my documentation or on any of the UK websites selling it. Is this a deliberate omission to leave out the 2nd processor details?!? I've heard of them leaving out GPS functionality but the whole processor?
also had gps tools in the old test roms

the ARM9 processor is just for the radio.
the ARM11 is the applications processor, i.e. for running WM and apps.
it's not dualcore in the sense an intel core 2 duo is.
edit: sorry i see now you meant the whole MSM is not mentioned. well that's easy to explain why... the WM6 side is supposed to be just a sideshow, so why mention the hardware specs for it.
it also has its own RAM, etc. etc.
if you heard of the dualcor prototype, well the HTC shift is like that. two full devices in one!
Anyone noticed there is a GPS section on the FAQ part of the HTC Shift site?

yea i noticed that too.... what gives? if theres gps in here why the hell don't they let us use it!! I love HTC but i hate the fact that the always "disable" key hardware or features, If you don't want the device to have it, don't tease us by putting it in the first place!!

Well... Maybe they leave this GPS option open incase something cookes his own rom and then the GPS function is enabled.
HTC will then have the option to release a rom with GPS otherwise no one wants to use their original rom!
here some info.....http://www.pringle.net.nz/blog/PermaLink,guid,46fcc9e9-26e8-4c40-b262-58a5366cb587.aspx
so let's investigate.....
re
expansys shows two versions of the shift, one with gps and one without. I think that htc is planning to release a gps version too, which will probably cost more too
I figured it couldn't hurt try a couple things after reading all the posts in this thread.
This what I tried so far.
I installed google maps for WM6
I copied over Telenav folder from my X7501
I copied the following files from the Windows directory on my X7501 to the Window dir. on my Shift.
TeleNavPlug.dll
GPSAux.dll.0409.mui
GPSAux.dll
After resetting I now have
Under Settings > system the External GPS appplication.
Telenav that starts up and seem to work but cannot find the GPS
Google maps tht works but cannot find the GPS.
I tried abunch of combinations of com port, access setting, etc in the External GPS application. I tried all the ones that worked on my X7501 and few other that didn't but no luck.
When I changed the access setting in the external GPS application it dose change the messages I am getting from google maps. Google maps seems to think there is GPS there but never gets any sat locks or times out trying to initialize the GPS (depends on the settings). I am using the shift in the same place my X7501 gets several sat locks.
Dose anyone else have any ideas I can try or know of any file I missed?
I know should probably wait for people smarter than I am to work on this but I figured I would give it a try...

owner of the Touch HD

Hi all,
I just got the Touch HD and is loving it. The 3.8" lcd is just awesome.
I'd like to use this phone along with its GPS feature. Do i have to subscribe to it? or can i use it for free?
I am currently using t-mobile as the service provider.
How can i enable the GPS?
PLEASE HELP, I AM A NEWB in phones.
The program enables the GPS. If you have TOMTOM then select built in gps receiver then it enables it automatically. The other programs you have to select what port GPS is on... i think it is on port 4.
the using of GPS is for free, but you have to buy a navigation software. so you can choose between several tools (tomtom, igo 8, navigon mobile nagigator and several others.
you can use google maps as well and the software is for free, but in this case you have online maps. to use them you have to pay for the transfering the maps over internet to your hd.

A buddy of mines have a gps software in his TyTnII and he didn't have to pay for dataplan or any GPS plan.
When he bought the phoen (used) it was already pre-installed, so i couldn't ask him for help.
Thanks
You can legally get TomTom from plenty of the threads posted in this forum.
The maps you have to pay for though.
i know this is not widely pratice, but is it possible to dl the maps, and just having it on my sd card?
once i have the map, do i download a navigation "player" on my phone?
if have a tomtom navi unit myself, byt like to have it on the phone also. can i use the software that came with actual navigation system for the phone?
if yes, how can i do it?
I am a newb at this.

Application recommendations

What are some good apps that utilize the diamonds hardware well? Ive noticed the thread on the accelerometer which has some nice programs. Which of those do you use daily? What programs would you recommend which make good use of gps and wifi? Fm radio?
I realize I should search myself and find what works for me, im just wondering what you guys with diamonds think since I should recieve mine in a few days and some of you have owned them for a year.
Hi and congratulations on your new Diamond that you will be receiving.
As for the apps, I use iGO8 for the GPS. Its a nice app and works really well with my Diamond...
...for Wifi I use Wifi Monster and Socket Wi-Fi Companion because it has some nice features.
I don't care much for accelerometer apps besides the ones that comes with the Diamond.
thankyou! id seen this wifi monster before and forgot the name of it

OnCourse Navigator 8.3 Released.

For everyone like me who has been waiting since they purchased their blackstone for OnCourse to support WVGA screens they day has apparently come. According to the forum link below they launched version 8.3 with WVGA support today. The website still shows 8.0 so I have posted a question to confirm.
http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/forum/default.aspx?f=10&m=7290&p=1
Is Text to Speech supported?
It seems that almost no GPS software for Windows Mobile supports that. I have seen Destinator 8 which supports it, but it is only 640x480.
The specs say that it does. I'll confirm on here as soon as I get my copy. right now I'm waiting until they say that I will for sure get 8.3 and it will work on the HD. It is similar in functionality to IGO 8. I'll post again when I make my order and when I get my copy to confirm it works (and TTS)
This is strange: I've had my HD for 6 months and I bought OCN 8 at the same time - it's fully WVGA compatible right out of the box (so to speak). Works portrait and landscape on onkolog custom 6.1 and 6.5 ROM's.
It's ver 8.13...I don't know if the new version will be significantly different than what I have, but I know I won't be upgrading.

They confirmed that the ones ordered today will be the 8.3 version and it does support the HTC Touch HD. I should have it some time next week. I'll post how everything works then.
Recieved OnCourse Navigator 8.3
Ok, I got my copy of OCN on tuesday and have used it for a couple of days. I thought I would write up my personal opinion of the product after two days of use. If my opinion changes down the road I'll make another post.
As a little background I have had a garmin standalone unit and garmin mobile xt on my phone in the past.
----------------------------Problems Section----------------------------
I had two problems getting the software working. I was sent an microSD card with the maps, software and manuals on it. When I put the card in it appeard to install properly.
The first problem was it did not recognise the gps (skip this section if you like as both problems were resolved). Solution to this problem was to go into Start->Settings->System->External GPS. On that screen select a GPS Program port (I selected COM4). on the hardware screen select none for GPS hardware port and access should be set to manage gps automatically.
The second problem was that the TTS voices were not working. After uninstalling and reinstalling this worked fine. This program did not show up in the remove programs window so I had to go to the programs\OCN directory to find the uninstall program.
-------------------------End Problems Section----------------------------
GPS Reception - This is the fastest application for getting a gps signal I have ever used. This includes the Garmin Mobile XT on this phone, Google Maps and a program I wrote myself. A small note on this is I do have QuickGPS updated.
Map Quality - I haven't driven around to much but it is very good so far. A major highway was added in my area last year and it is already on OCN (my wifes updated Garmin maps do not show the road yet). On the other hand my childrens daycare center moved a couple of years back and it still shows the old location. Overall I would give this a positive review to this point.
Screen - The main map screen is nice and easy to read. The Road signs that it shows are useful.
Battery - Does drain the battery but not to horribly.
Nice features that are better then on Garmin Mobile XT
TTS works great. slightly strange thing is if you get on HWY 212 WB (westbound) it states Highway 2 1 2 W B. It takes some getting use to.
It comes on a 8gb card (no 16 gb card to date, please ask about it if you purchase a copy. the more we ask the more likly they will eventually have it)
Works with internal gps, if you want larger then a 2gb card garmin must use an external gps
3D buildings in metropolitan areas is nice but not necissary.
Missing Features that exist on Garmin Mobile XT
On Garmin Mobile XT you can get the directions repeated if you miss them. At this point I have not figured out how to do this on OCN.
Garmin can search for POIs from Google for the most accurate poi list I have seen.
OCN does not seem to have any ability to get gas prices.
TMC (traffic) does not work in the US and on Mobile XT it is free if you have an internet plan.
OCN shows time left to destination but it doesn't show estimated arival time. Silly little thing but I don't like doing the math when I'm in a hury.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and recommend it to anyone who is looking for navigation in north america.
OnCourse gone?
I am trying to find the OnCourse software for Android. Has it vanished? Can not seem to find it anywhere. Anyone have an updated URL, the ones I am finding are from around 2008.

How is the GPS ?

What do you think about the GPS, which app would you recommand ?
People report back that TomTom version 7.915 is working fine......
Can recommend you TomTom
There's also a Copilot trial already in ROM, which is the other main option.
gps is excellent - better (more sats) than my rhodium and far far faster to lock than my kaiser. best yet in my opinion,
Does anyone know if IGO8 works with the mini? I am seriously considering this device since I at the point of being able to renew my contract.
Would love to know if anyone knows. Thanks!!!
Hi,
I have started a third party program which uses the gps.
When I turn off this program, the gps-icon in the tray doesn't go away.
I assume the gps is still running, but I can't find any settings to turn it off. Only thing that seem to work, is truning the phone off and on..
Anybody got an idea?
Hi stefanthege
I had this too with a little GPS app I use.
As far as I can see there isn't anything you can do to turn the GPS off, although it is supposed to shut down automatically if nothing is calling the GPS hardware.
For me, I noticed the application wasn't shutting down correctly, and was still listed in the task manager. Check there that your application isn't still running in the background when you think you have closed it.
Cheers
ow.
Hi,
Yes, I checked the task manager, and turned off ALL programs.. the GPS-icon was still showing in the icon-tray..
I don't think it's a big problem, because I don't use the GPS all that often.. but a little annoying..
Garmin
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT, Version 5.00.20wp, and is working well.
My ROM is 1.36.410.1 PTG.
GPS works great!
I've tested a lot of PNA & PDA devices with GPS and I'm very very satisfied with the GPS function on HTC HD mini, it works absolutely great! Finds satelites very fast, faster than some PNAs even it uses A-GPS. This can be problem when you are in roaming zones, for that, I use application DATA CONTROLLER (you can find it here in some forum).
I use iGO8 navigation software, with costumized DATA.zip archive, it works fine and I like it very much. Also iGO Primo is great solution.
HTC HD mini has totally satisfied my needs!
Hi Piona,
I was working several years ago with devices + external GPS units and devices with GPS inside (Pda, Notebook, smartphones,..)
I was working with GPS units from several manufacturers, kinds and versions (BT, serial, CF, SD, cable...).
In fact, several months ago, I was talking to HTC to know what is the brand what they included (Sirf,...) because it is a very interesting data to know if it works fine or not, in advance.
They did not confirm me this question but they informed me very good and send me tech. information in order to warranty a good perfomances.
Later, when we checked a couple of terminals (HTC mini) here, I could see is the best GPS what I checked.
Of course there is people with more experience than me but I can confirm you I invested days and days to check this question during a lot of years and GPS units and it is the best one.
It is a real GPS working in COM4 (Nmea, 4800bps)(remember it if you need to configure any software) but, the most important for me is it is very stable.
In short: fast, strong signal (I can work inside my office) and very stable.
Upon my point of view, the GPS is a very good argument from this terminal.
Have a good day
The GPS signal acquisition of my HD Mini is poor in comparison to my previous HD2. It can take 3-4 minutes to get a valid fix whereas the HD2 took only a few seconds.
This may be software related as I think it was better when I bought it, but until we can get the tools to update the Radio ROM I can only think of doing a hard reset to see if it improves.
My HD Mini (bought from Clove) came with a free copy of NDrive on a Micro-SD card.
It works very well. I find the HD Mini usually locks onto the satellites quickly when outside and holds that lock for longer, where my previous Sony Sat-Nav lost signal in the same position, in the same vehicle far faster.
If I had a criticism of NDrive it would be that it will sometimes instruct me to 'keep left' when what is really meant is 'turn left'.
Having said that recalculation of the route is almost instantaneous, it includes safety camera alerts and warns if I exceed the given speed limit for the current road.
I'd certainly recommend it and would probably buy NDrive next time I needed to.
I've now upgraded my ROM though still no new Radio ROM, but since then it has been far better. Fixes in about 20 seconds now from warm start.
GPS works great on HTC HD Mini.
Garmin mobile XT works like a cream.
Miero Via GPS Black edition is another one.
@ people who have the gps icon not removing itself as a status icon...
I myself have this problem using third party GPS navigation software...
try using google maps app after... then close google maps app ... with me this shuts down gps also...
Best of luck..
Joey
Garmin here also, flawless
GPS of HD mini is one of the best, if not the best. It acquires satellite signals and lock on very quickly. Even inside my office room. Takes seconds to lock. It out-performs the dedicated GPS device i bought earlier and installed in my car. So, now, the removed that device, and use my HD mini as primary navigation device.
I use NaviComputer instead of the built-in Google Map.
NaviComputer is a great app. It allows offline maps to be downloaded and saved on the phone. No need for internet access when i go out and use the phone as GPS device. This is a big plus, because in some areas -- especially in places when you most need to find your way back, GPRS/mobile internet is so weak and mostly non-existent. So that makes the wonderful Google map practically useless for me.
I use TomTom and also GPSTuner.
with both programs I haven't any issue
ozi
also oziexplorer works very well. I noticed it continues logging when the display switches off. this is really good for battery life!
