Guys
When someone makes an incoming video calls me in 3G the call just fails, and I cannot figure out how to make an outgoing 3G video call. Looks like it is not supported and the nexus one is the butt of all jokes at the workplace.
How much use is the ability to connect a video call when there is no front facing camera?
Go buy an iPhone. I hear they make great video calls.

You bought a $600 phone and honestly didn't know that it does NOT have a front facing camera? Are you serious?
Anyways, I've had several phones before the Nexus One that did have this capability and I'll let you know how many times I used it; Zero.
One i dont care to make a 3G video call. But atleast the call should terminate. Not drop out. My old Nokia E51 too did not have a front facing camera but video calls worked with the back camera, not the most clever but it atleast worked !
Why is it that XDA of late is getting so many people who evidently do not read up on the phone at all and come here to complain that about a feature that was obviously not available? Xvid and now this. What made you think it could do it? Not, the documentation, not the website, and surely not the reviews.
On a side note is it really that important to you for a cell phone? Seems a novelty feature at best to me. Different regions/cultures have different priorities I guess.

DUH? the iphone doesnt have a front facing camera either! FFS man!
I know there is no front camera, and probably we make one video call a year, but atleast we should be able to receive a call. I guess most of us jumped to buy the "superphone" like me and its not bad to expect a few things out of it.
This brings us to our next point kids....dont smoke crack.
Video calling is overrated. Maybe it's more popular in europe and surrounding areas, but working as an IT consultant in corporate america, I can tell you that nobody cares about this feature. Even using skype for video conferencing, they don't want to use the cameras. Their excuse "it's just creepy", and I tend to agree.
I meet with people I want to see, I call those I don't. If they're across the country, it doesn't matter. The only time I ever use the camera is when I talk to my kids while I travel, but who would want to do that on a phone with an 'ok' 3g connection at 15fps. I can have 30fps in HD on my laptop. lol

The technical specifications are pretty clearly laid out, and a front facing camera for video calls where not even remotely hinted at.
Seems like this was a knee-jerk purchase without any research done whatsoever (other than looking at pictures of the phone, maybe) and now you just want to pick something to complain about.
What fun...

where did you get the idea that this phone supported video calls? who spends 600$ without looking for features that they want? if you can spend 600 without reading a spec sheet go buy another phone and stop complaining

What's funny is when people buy a phone and think "OMG IT WAS $600" Don't realize that all phones are this price. Just because you spent that much on this one doesn't make it God. Yes this phone is called the "superphone" by some people. But you will never see a phone that has every feature on the market. It wont happen. I've never even heard of video calls on 3G.

Lord no, given how obscure--relatively speaking--the Nexus is, most people who do buy it are probably geeks and gadget addicts, who generally read/research the specs of any given device carefully before buying it. I know I did.

It looks like a giant candybar! I have nothing against the Evo 4G nor the HD2 which I previously owned (I took it back! Found the recipt DJ!) but the enormous screens aren't for me. They just feel like their gonna snap with their extreme thiness, not to mention the battery life was bad on my hd2 due to a 1230 mah. But, the Evo and HD2 are fine, this thing is rediculous. It's longer than the rest and what's up with the mirrored finish around the screen? If you wanna make a 4.4 inch look bigger on a phone your insane!
Much too big for my daily use. Plus we need detailed specs & benchmarks for evaluating it

Look it up bro. It's all over the net. It's currently the fastest phone as of right now (I THINK***)
And I'd get it. And of course a great phone MUST come with Android. Anything else would be crap.

Yea, no decently spec'd Android phone in a while that's GSM. I mean the Galaxy s thingamajig (I don't know what it's called) is the most advanced gsm we have right now, but unfortunately no HTC's since the desire! Where are you GSM devices with really good hardware and awesomeness eminating from you!
EDIT: ATT is getting a major advanced (im being sarcastic) Android HTC phone called the Aria!!!! Yay 2.8 inch screen with a 600 mhz processor!

No keyboard = not for me
I will not buy anything without a hard keyboard and will never believe that a phone without a keyboard could be better than a phone that has one.
Me and my, "homeboys" are porting the Samsung Galaxy S Pro to the G1!
Sometimes I like to express emotions with a pic borrowed from the internet.
Regarding the Droid X:
I don't think the EVO is too big, but it's pushing it. This thing is even bigger and the backwards chin would irritate the buhjezus out of me. That thing looks more like a multimedia device that includes a phone.
Of course I'm biased after several years of good service but I'm extremely pleased with Sprin't lineup lately. Not much to choose from but what they have is up there with the best of em, at least compared to what's available in the US
Thanks for changing your sig pic. Now I will no longer be tortured by the guilt of using your sig pic to post in the funny pictures thread...

My guess is that the only reason they offer ANY android phones is because apple lets them in order to disguise their plans for world domination, and if they can get a few android people on board then they are at least a little closer to the iPhone and may one day opt for an iPhone when upgrade time rolls around.
AT&T offering android is like a consolation prize... it's more symbolic than anything.
will it have a front facing camera ?
I personally enjoy oversized screens, so I think the Droid X will be my next phone. I have a question, though -- will the phone have a decent modding community around it in the way that the EVO does? I realize that it's a difficult question to answer right now, but I'm very excited about getting a new phone (and rooting it).

No front-facing camera.
Also, let me take the opportunity to talk about video calling. If you use a cell phone in public and you don't care that other people are extremely annoyed at hearing you talk on your phone, get ready for my fist. Just regular calls around me annoy me, video calls are going to enrage me. Try not to be a douche and take your calls in private, please.

HAHAHA, too funny. I would really hope that people have enough sense to use vidoe calling when and where it's intended (ie. at home, in the office. NOT on the subway, in a restaurant, etc..)
Alas I am sure there will be plenty of people that just can't stand for other people to see them on a regular old voice call when they could be seeing them on a video call on their awesome new phone.
Please, please, please if you end up feeding someone a knuckle sandwich for being on a video call in public have a friend catch it on video for our viewing pleasure

This video is pretty funny.
He is complaining and shaking his fist at the screen because there is no pretty animation of the interface switching from port to landscape?? He loves his iPhone, that's for sure. Android is just too much tech for this guy's Apple reduced brain capacity. He needs something simple with shiny buttons and pretty animations.

Well, to be fair, if you're going to do an animation, you might as well do it right And if you can't do it right, then don't do an animation at all. Like my X1, when it switches modes in Panels, I appreciate that they added animation. It's not the smoothest, but it's a nice touch. Certainly wouldn't begrudge them for NOT adding it, though
agreed pretty annoying.. he created the video in a way to look as if android is difficult to figure out... seems like an apple fan boy to me, not just based on the fact that he bashed android but the way he was doing it.. for one ive never tried swiping the lock screen up, just found it retarded that he was making that seem like it was a problem
Holy crap, this guy is a ****ing idiot. Complaining about not being able to swipe up to unlock? Screaming about the setup menu saying 'Setting up your PC36100?'
The Apple force is strong with this one.
I loved how at the start he says "It should say you have to swipe the screen down to unlock!"
3 seconds later the screen flashs "Swipe down to unlock."
His response. "Well it should have said that from the start!"
A problem that is only a problem for 3 seconds the first time you EVER use the phone is simply not a problem worth mentioning.
" Sprint foo? Is that like spring kung foo? " yes braniac that's why there's a helmet on the picture.. do you know what sound a cow makes?.. moooo .. idiot

Why ***** about a review?
The guy is an apple fanboy and an idiot, but it's no big deal.
Just down vote and be done with it.

<_< I probably shouldn't say this, but I feel like giving everyone a chuckle. I don't own an Android device, but working with them I get to play quite a bit. That said, whenever I see the lock screen, I instinctively try to swipe upwards. Down just isn't intuitive to where my fingers are already placed on the screen. This happens every time, it just doesn't feel right to me
Luckily, I haven't been subjected to the video review... Can't watch it at work, and from the looks of comments, I'm glad
i like to consider myself a fair person - i'm not a fanboy, and i respect negative reviews of android devices even though i feel as a whole, android is pretty nice.
with that said, when i saw this moron IMMEDIATELY complaining about something as trivial as the dots on the lockbar, i logged into youtube just so i could "dislike" his video.
doesn't chris know!? htc/google purposely made the lockscreen like that to weed out and baffle all the apple fanboys! they pick up the device, and because it doesn't expressly tell them what to do with it, they just claw and poke at it like a mentally handicapped ape, eventually giving up and going back to the protective dictatorship of stevie jobs. without someone else doing all their thinking for them, they can't even get past the lockscreen of a more advanced phone.
good. lord.
and i pity the idiots out there who honestly find a flaw with something as small and irrelevant as that.

People need to prioritize, they critisize it because it does not have a dual core CPU but really what good is that going to do, its a phone. It isnt like any Android app is that CPU intensive.
no HD video, doesnt matter either, HD video on phones still isnt anywhere comparable to a HD video camera. the resolution may be there but the quality isnt.
I for one rather take on time and priority Android updates over anything else.
I do like this phone, and glad i sold my N1 before the market for N1's shot down.

Damn you!!!!! Lol, I just bit the bullet on eBay on my N1, and yes, prices are lower, I took $50 less than I would've a week ago.
And criticizing something they dont own is the same thing people did with the G2, then people found out it was a really great device. It doesn't help companies or end users when people prematurely "bastardize" a device.

I used to hate Samsung phones (especially regular phones), but this one seems to be the best phone from Samsung and it looks very cool.
No memory card is the only thing I don't like.

I think this is the first topic I've read without reading a single post whining about this or that. Kudos to everyone in this topic and the whiners that didn't post in this topic. I say whiners because I see it in almost every single damn topic I read through.
I agree. Hopefully in a few weeks or so we'll see all the naysayers and doomsayers pass.
One day and we already have boot unlock (though that was admittedly pretty simple), custom recovery, root, and an optimized kernel. I only see bright things in this device's future, but that might just be the amazing screen!

Not sure why people are hating on it so much. I havent taken my hand off it for a couple hours and I absolutely love it. Definitely worth my hard earned $560
well I live in vegas and I went to ces especially to see and test the new XPERIA ARC.
Well, its super thin and super fast heh.
The.timescape app looks.a bit different and the new timescape and media scape widgets are wayyy cooler cuz u can just browse all the 'cards' on ur home screen without opening the actual apps.
The transitions are fast and lag free but like every other phone there was a mil second lag once.in a while.
The app drawer looks different a bit, it horizonally and every page has a folder like frame.
As for the device hardware it.is a VERY slick a business like type of phone, u know the type of phone u wear a suit for lol and look like an important business man.
It is very slim and super light. The arc like design is really nice too.
The new bravia engine does make pictures look way better when taken in the dark and the screen itself is very colorful bright.and sharp.
As u can see in the picture bellow they had both colors at the show, the silver and the supposesly blue one which looks totally black.
The stuff I didn't like about this phone are the fact that the camera button is super small and it doesn't have the half press focus button like the x10.
the usb port was on the side like the x1, not sure if its good or bad heh
And of course my BIGGEST complaint.... we won't be able to have this super cool slick phone in WHITE color :-(
And yes I just made this all topic from my beloved white x10 eh.
Enjoy the pics.

I love xda app on my Xperia X10i phone =D
We are in the world of 3G and 4G.
Where is the front camera for face calls?
Is it not the most needed in such high end phone in this era?
Can we add the front camera before releasing it out?

Seems to be a regional phenomenon, but in Germany i NEVER EVER saw anyone video calling. Nobody does this here and nobody seems to care about front facing camera either.
Germans, correct me if you think I'm wrong.
havent ever seen one person yet who uses video calls.
People are conservative in Europe. Showing emotions in public is dangerous and it's impossible not to when you're video-calling someone.
As for the ARC … It's another illusion, just like the rest of the Xperia line. Good hardware, promising project, but a developer not very fond of software development and open-source programming, hence the bootloader.
4 me SE is dead....
Thanks for your review and photos, I cannot wait for it to be available in Singapore soon.
No regrets having my X10 besides other brands of Android despite SE delay in the firmware upgrade but overall the user experience is superb as I do not have any occasion that my phone will hang and I have to remove battery to restart the phone compared to other brands.
Xperia Arc is my next phone after my X10.
Qualcomm MSM8255 is a mistake, that is so 2010
Almost outdated hardware, stupid aftersales service, slow software development? I've learned my lesson with X1 and X10.. Won't be rushing for this one..
Better to get that Motorola, the one you can plug to a thing to create a laptop..

Was introduced in Denmark back in the '05/'06. Never really caught on.
Never seen video calling actually being used here in Canada either.
Biggest mistake is not having the charge port on the bottom of the phone. Don't understand why they do that.....................

You can find the picture of the back here and both the front and the back if you click the link to Droid Life. Looks pretty good to me.

Definitely. I can't tell if the lines on the back are popped out though. Like you help you hold on to it. I love the red too! Lol. The 720p is gonna be legit.
720? i bet she'll do 1080 easily. that's the new trend. now let's hope the HD recording actually looks good...unlike our poor inc 1 which has terrrrrribly awful quality.
oh wiat, just realized you meant screen. that too! but amoled! i don't like how LCD looks :\

Not 720p recording. Lol. The screen is 720p. The resolution is 1280x720. I'm sure it'll have 1080p recording too though.
This is my next toy. (assuming it actually comes out)

If this or the Prime don't materialize, it'll signal the end of my contract with Verizon. They're disappointing the heck out of me lately.

Looks good. It's really turning out to be a touch decision on my upgrade in October. Bionic, Vigor, or that mystery samsung device. I'm pretty happy with my Incredible though, maybe I can wait a little longer?
I just hope that the next flagship phone from vzw gets the same great support from the Dev Com as the DINC.

With the Vigor's supposed specs, I'm sure it will have a great dev backing. This is probly goin to be my next device. My contract ended a few days ago and I'm waiting for Verizon to start nagging me to upgrade. Lol

I know some of you are gonna be like "God, that's stupid!", but where's the kickstand? I never thought it would happen, but I was hanging out with my friends last night who all have EVOs and Tbolts, except 1, and we poked fun at his phone for not having one and having to prop it up to look at videos on it. It's stupid, but it's a feature I use almost every day.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think I'll ever actually use a kickstand and it seems that HTC is moving away from putting them in phones. They're not in the Evo 3D or the Sensation.

Wut? Are you really trying to say that a kickstand is going to be a deciding factor between this phone and a TB?

The kickstand seems like a good idea for the user but it does propose a problem for the manufacture. You would assume most people would take care of their phones and be careful now-a-days, but most people aren't and any movable part is a part that can break no matter how the quality is it can still break. So they probably moved away because of people trying to get insurance claims or free repairs. Or you can go with the thought of they took it off to make more money. By that I mean if you don't have a kickstand how much more apt are you to buy a $30-$60+ desktop dock? All is this is just IMO, but food for thought.

True, but I don't think that I'd buy a dock anyway. You are right about the whole repairs thing and that the regular person nowadays doesn't really take care of their device.

I can almost guarantee someone will make a decent case with a kickstand built-in.
This will certainly be my next phone as it is the only one worthy to replace the original DINC.. My only hope is that they rename this one the Incredible HD or something with the DINC name for the U.S.
