Best place for SIM free insurance? - HD2 General

I've bought an HD2 sim free and taken out a monthly T-Mobile contract for it but where is the best place for me to get insurance for it?

I agree, deff the cheapest way.

What kind of extra will you be looking at doing that?
I too am looking to get this beauty insured and o2 offered it me at sale, but I declined and said Id look into it, 4 weeks later havent got it sorted

I prefer not to use home insurance with excess and loss of no claims (my home insurance gives no claims discount )
Iam saving that for maybe a new tv when mine acidently falls
I paid an extra £35 on years premium for a laptop upto £2000 .. Probably charge you the same

Dropped my phone, am I screwed?

So I dropped my phone 2 feet and it exploded and the screen is done. I'd post pictures, but it makes me sad.
I've had the phone for 40 days or so, what can I do to not have to pay $550 for a new phone? Add insurance and wait a month? If I add the insurance what would it cost me per month and for a new phone?

As far as I know, you can only add Sprint TEP during your first 30 days. Check your credit card for accidental damage protection (Amex has 1 year extended warranty and 90 days accidental damage).
Repairing the screen probably won't be $550, but will be very expensive.
I'm sorry for your loss. As far as I know you can only sign up for insurance within a certain period of time after recieving the phone. I think you are past that timeframe.
I don't think there are any replacement screens available yet for replacing the glass yourself. You could search for something like that if you are the brave type, or look for a place that will repair it for you. But again, I don't think replacement parts are available yet.
In my opinion, if you want to avoid buying an expensive new phone I would buy the cheapest CDMA phone you can get from sprint (or Ebay) and wait until parts are available for the EVO.
Without insurance you are pretty screwed. You can try adding it to your Sprint account now and see if they will let you and wait 40 days or so to file a claim.
Either that or pony up the cash for one on ebay.
Amex protection, while they are amazing, will only cover what you spent on the phone.
So if you got the phone for $199, they will reimburse you what you spent on it, not the cost of the replacement at $499.
I went through this with my wifes Pre. Dog ate it after 80 days. Amex said they would give me $199 for it (what I spent) but would need the damaged phone as proof. It would cost me $499 for a new Pre. Luckily I had insurance. I asked Amex if they would pay the $100 deductible for the insurance, but my insurance company would want the damaged phone to see if they could repair it.
They immediately credited my account $100 and was happy about it. They did not need the phone back.
I buy everything on Amex. Everything.
But in your case you have two options. Buy a new phone, or try to get away with insurance fraud.
I thought I read a post somewhere on here where someone found the front glass for sale for like $130.
So Sprint added the insurance to my plan and told me it was active as of today. So I'm covered apparently, anyone know what it will cost me to use that insurance?
It was $100 for me.

Thank you. Suppose this thread can now be closed or deleted.
Please have some form of moral fortitude and carry the insurance for at least a year.
Glad you are able to get away with it.
I'm going to keep the insurance forever. I wanted to get it pre-drop but put it off because I was so "careful"... What a joke I am right?

You live and learn
Luckily Sprint allowed you to add the insurance past your 30 day mark. I understand that insurance can be added "anytime", but I guess they fed me a line of B.S. when they warned me that after my 30-trial period, I couldn't add it.
Either way...$100 is a heck of a lot better then having to dish out the full price of the phone.
If you ever need insurance activate an old phone online then activate the one you need insurance on. It will let you add it then. It needs to be able to power on and join the network though.
My Sprint insurance runs 15 a month per phone.

Why? I have Total Equipment Protection (the best plan) and it is $7 per phone per month.
if sprint ever tells you that you can't add insurance tell them it's in the contract which it is, as long and they didn't kick you off because of too many claims ( i think 3 or more a year) they have to let you add it
If you would have gone to a service and repair store like mine, you would have been charged a $119 fee and then we could either replace the damaged parts if we have them, or order you a replacement. Then you could also add insurnace after that as well.
Best thing is that the Evo is not hard at all for us to work on. The only hard part would be getting a screen. I can have one taken apart and swap a screen in probably 15 to 20 minutes.

[Q] Insurance - to do or not to do?

Will you be insuring your dhd ? carriers always used to try to bundle it in at point of dale - and dont seem to do this anymore...
how much would i pay for an annual policy to insure my dhd against accidental damage.
I have a 2 yr contract and need to make this bloody thing last!

You've just reminded me that I need to notify my insurance company that I've switched phones.
I wouldn't go without the peace of mind I get from insurance. I used the insurance offered by T-Mobile. Last year my phone was stolen at the gym. I realised it was stolen at 11am, by 3pm T-Mobile had a new phone in my hand. Top service!

Phone Insurance

Hi guys,
Should be getting my Desire HD sometime next week if all goes to plan (super excited ). I have bought it sim free online so it's cost me £470 and as you can imagine I'd like to protect this investment against any mishaps.
I've been looking around at phone insurance and there seems to be a decent choice out there. Just thought I would get your opinions before purchasing any.
I can't get insurance from my provider (o2) cause I'm on a sim only tariff and would like to keep it that way and my phone isn't covered in my house insurance policy. So I would like any recommendations on any phone insurers. I am based in the UK (so need a UK insurer).
I just want it to cover all the basics really such as theft, liquid damage, accidental damage etc. etc. Loss cover would be nice but it is not a must.
Thanks

Sorry I forgot to mention that, I bank with HSBC. I checked with them and they do not offer a separate phone insurance or belonging insurance other than that covered in their home insurance policy (and I don't insure my home with them).
Add it to your house insurance who will insure it for Cover both in and out of house mine for the year extra was 6euro

HSBC do have phone insurance package as I had this few years ago and I claimed. Over all experience was very quick and with in 3 weeks I had 450 in my bank. I'm currently with natwest and have advantage blue package that gives me phone insurance for phones worth upto 750 and I pay £6.95 a month. I would recommend going with HSBC but if thy don't do it no more open a current account with natwest and ad a advantage blue package. End of the day ya don't have to use the bank. Or insure ya phone at ccpclaims this is the company natwest use for there advantage blue package.

why would you need one? if in some cased you broke your phone and the price of fixing it exceed the price of buying new one, then just buy a new one, or if it was less then fix it. i'm sure it wont cost more than the amount of money you eventually going to pay for the insurer.
Personally i use fonesafe, its £5.99 a month and they guarantee a new phone to your door in 24 hours.
If you don't mind waiting a little longer you can try:
http://www.insureandgo.com/phone-insurance.html
They have excellent customer service, and the claim will be dealt with reasonably fast, although it breaks, they will try to repair the phone rather than replace it (they will replace if it cannot be repaired).
Whomever you go with though you must be EXTRA careful to both read the policy in full and keep the insurance people up to date with your details. If you miss out anything important or do not claim in time etc you are VERY likely to lose your claim. Having said that, if you are mindful you wont have an issue
J
No end: Insurance covers against loss/theft AND accidental damage. In my opinion it is well worth it, i pay £140 over the course of the handsets life (2 years), during that time i dont have to worry about losing or breaking it (my two biggest worries), that peace of mind is worth it in my opinion. Naturally, opinions differ!

well the cost of the phone is £470...the cost of insurance is about £5-£8 a month (£60-£96) a year. Insurance doesn't just cover breakage though, it will cover the phone against theft and the more expensive packages (£7-8) cover it in case you lose your phone. Liquid damage is also something it covers and being in the rainy UK you just never know...2 years ago my phone got destroyed because I was walking on the side of the road and got splashed by a passing bus driving through a puddle.
I realise that being Bahraini things work differently out there (I used to live in the UAE) so phones are a lot cheaper (no VAT) and that things such as theft and rain are less common so insurance isn't even considered
i have my student home insurance with endsliegh. phone insurance was £24 FOR THE YEAR and covers loss, accidental damage (inc water damage), and theft. replacement within a week. awesome.
asked my parents and they said their phones are covered by their home insurance for pennies, so it might be worth asking your home insurance company first.
let say i'm in bahrain, and my phone got stolen, how they would be sure that it is stolen??

Well here in UK you'd have to call the police and report it stolen and tell them how. If you left it in your car which was unlocked and left it on the seat for everyone to see then obviously the insurance company would not pay out as it was incompetence on your part. But if they smashed a window and took it from the glove box then it would say that in the police report and the insurance company should cover it. The same applies for if its taken from your house or if it stolen of you directly...most important thing is to report it and get the crime report from the police.

Insurance for Galaxy S II

I'm buying a Galaxy S II sim free when it's release and want to insure it.
Have you guys/gals got any recommendations of where to insure it. I'm UK based.
i know CPW provide geek insurance if bought from their store for around £12.99 per month but have seen a number of internet based insurers quoting around £6 per month but which of them are legit. Am also looking for laptop insurance too.
House insurance is not an option as i live in shared accommodation.
Would be greatful if anyone can help from their experiences.
Thanks in advance

Does your bank provide it with your account?
I know some do, so it might be worth checking it out.
12.99 is crazy money a month, no way i would go for that.
IMO, £12.99 per month is way too much to insure the phone. I know the phone is valued around about £500, but still...
Also, you will probably have to pay an excess fee of about £100 on top of that if you make a claim.
I'm probably going to upgrade my standard LloydsTSB bank account to the "Silver" account. It costs £2 per month for the first 2 months and then £7.95 per month after that.
It includes:
- Mobile phone insurance (repair or replacement up to £2000, accessories up to £250) and covers Loss, theft and accidental damage
- AA Breakdown cover
- European Travel insurance
+ some other stuff too...
Check it out with your own bank before you buy insurance from CPW.
Thanks guys, will give the CPW insurance a miss for sure.
Will check out the Lloyds suggestion as I'm not too sure about using internet insurance companies as they may be cheap but who knows the hassle if you have to claim.
mines £6.95 through natwest they use a company called ccp . co. uk.
very good tbh i claimed last year and i had full handset price given to me, only have to pay £25 access.
you dont have to go through the bank just search for that company
lloyds silver account provides free insurance for 1 mobile phone but the excess is 50 . i personally wouldn't bother with insurance, warranty for a year is good enough for me.

Broke/Cracked screen replacement

Don't think for a minute that it cost a lot for a screen....There may be high sales now but soon the true cost will be no more than $80.00. Remeber true cost for many phones to OEMS like Apple is $65-100.00. What do you guys think! Here are a few links that I came up with for LCD, and digitizer replacement. Last time I checked Squaretrade was a much better option, but doesn't cover theft. It's only offered for the first 30 days of ownership. Also, the deductible for both is very high.

I used to work for them. A lot of people assume that they get their phone replaced with a new one in-store, but they don't. It gets shipped out and repaired if possible. Cracked screens are almost always repaired. They try their hardest to avoid giving the customer a new phone. But if they have replace the phone, it's a refurb. If there are no replacements available, they get store credit for the amount they paid for the phone.

This information is very outdated as it has changed a bit ago. The phone gets sent out (you can get a loaner phone if available for $50. This gets refunded when the loaner is returned). Usually within 1-5 business days you get your replacement phone (same model).

Soon? Psssh yeah right, not believable for a minute when a t959 vibrant (gs1) LCD screen replacement is $89 + free shipping and a t989 gs2 is $149 + free shipping, both from amazon and is the cheapest I have found.. which is about the same pricing as LCD replacement sites from China and wholesale sites like Alibaba and Aliexpress.
True though, their wholesale price should be about 3x less than retail but I've been searching extensively for weeks and there are no wholesalers selling for anything less than what I've stated above. It will be years until we see LCD screens for the gs3 at a respectable price, like claimed in the OP. By then the value of the gs3 will become greatly depreciated from what it is today since higher end phones will be available.
P.S none of those links work
