Feel free to tell us why you prefer him, which version do you think he made better and why.
What applications would you like to see in his next version?
What applications you'd like to see removed on his next version?
Important note: This is a thread NOT meant to diminish anyone or his skills, or the other way around. It's meant for people to compare the pros and cons on their ROMs, helping them make better ones, and helping the users decide which one they see most fit to their purposes.
Everyone is voting, but no one has yet given any reasons why to like or dislike someone's ROM.
Come on people, I bet they want feed back, and so do we!
I only used bepe's and udK's ROMs, and for a very short period. I think bepe's ROMs are great because he makes 4 different versions with different applications in them. Right now I'm using latest Vega R1 from udK and liking it, but I'm looking forward some minor bug fixing (like the italian text in the cube) in next R2.
I tried many swtos, bepe and udk ROMs...
Result for me is that udKs ROM is without erros, fast and very stable
Ok, after trying all of them i cocluded to udK's R1 because apart from the fact that it is very fast and stable, it has a different design and looks than all the other common ROMs.
I prefer to see something new except that full-light-skinny, etc!
I Would suggest cookers to have a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390543
So i guess we need some new ideas!!!

Indeed, there is, but with particular ROM and not the latest ones. I created this one so people could express how they feel with the ROMs they've been using over the time. And especially for people to discuss what they like more and/or less in the ROMs, so it can help cookers do their job even better, and to help the new guys (like myself) understanding what they should want on the ROMs they install.
The builds, the applications, the stability of the OS, everything should be discussed here. Even though there are hundreds of other threads to do so.

I Agree with athanaso..some new ideas like TOM..
I prefer Infido but he's not in the choices nice, essential and fast ROM.
So i voted Bepe
I agree with new stuff and appearance, if they don't affect the overall performance of the device. It's always great to see a new face on our handheld.

I'm sorry about that. I only made the Poll with the top 5 contributors on this board (at least the most recent ones). I also tried a ROM previous to bepe and udK's, but don't know who made it. A friend gave it to me, and it was nice. But I prefer the udK's.
On the bepe's ROM I tried, 0.67 Opera, I had an issue with the Opera installed which didn't let me Zoom In / Zoom Out more than once. It's a fixed Zoom, and sometimes I need to Zoom just a bit and I couldn't. Also tried to install the latest Opera Mobile on that ROM, but couldn't get that feature to work.
Since udK's does not provide Opera browser, when I installed the latest version, it gave me the option to Zoom at will. That was the main reason I stuck with it.
Btw, since you people test a whole lot of ROMs, can you please tell me how do you backup stuff from one to another? I tried to backup email accounts and GPRS connections once, from one ROM to the next one, but couldn't get it to work properly. Is there a tool which is compatible with any ROM?
Thanks.
Voted 4 bepe for the qualtity and the versatility of his ROM.
He has 4 lines of ROM in 5 Languages.
My vote would go to udK cuz the ROM is a lil better than bebe's...but there is only 1 version in only 1 language

Exactly!
we need a poll? The best udk's rom
UDK's rom is super fast...but I use bepe's simply because I don't like the soft new key and also when you press on the email icon on home screen it goes to messaging and not direct to email like on bepe's rom...Have I know how to change that I'd probably go with UDK's ROM

Cause bepe has longer history in this forum. He is a well known cooker (from previous devices also) and all XDA community respect that.
I've been doing plenty of research on the forums and it just appears that the best rom, in terms of stability, function, speed and reliability is the Dutty 3.9 XT. Newer versions have some improvements, but with functional setbacks such as sms problems as in 4.3. The new leo roms look fancy, but again they suffer from speed and functionality also! So as a blackstone user and one to show it off to iphone fans, am I right in saying this is one of the few roms we have which is reasonably fast, stable and functional, without coming across an unexpected hickup and the iphone user wins that round!
theres no such thing as perfect ROM
its very personal to what you want to do with your phone and in what way you want to use it and if you want WM 6.1 or WM 6.5 on it,.. especially not to show off to iphone.. i go with Miri's WM 6.5, for me its my favourite, been with it since the beginning, others might thing otherwise, for what its personal
if you worry about iphone users (kids, girls, non-technology knowers most of all) and they got to the point where they dare compare an iphone to a WinMobile phone is enough for you not to waste ur time trying to get in their limited minds,.. let them show off how awesome the iphone is cause it can take pictures, and they autorotate, and how they can access the internet when they are at a wireless hotspot, and that they can access their top 5 favourite websites cause they have a shortcut of each of them on their phone's homepage, and how they have a shortcut for every single thing on their front page for instant access (now isnt that handy, i bet you we all have out PC's desktop FULL of shortcuts ).. so enjoy your phone buddy
well if u want to show off to iphone users. do go for nrg rom's. there are an eye candy, fast and improving (lesser bugs). try photon range of rom's based on 2.1 by nrg
Guys,
I'm wondering, are any 6.5 ROMs as fast as 6.1 ROMs?
Cheers.

I just tried out Duttythroy's WM6.5+HTC Sence (Manila 2.5) and it was kinda laggy so I went back to Stock ROM WM6.1.

It depends on the rom. Some of the new ones (with higher build number) are sooo slow, laggy and unstable... For me the most stable and fastest rom is from XannyTech. Haven´t had any problem for now (using a week) and it´s almost fast as stock rom.
Guys,
Thanks. I've actually, for the first time today, started flashing! I can see why it's addicting, but it got tedious after 2 hours of playing around. Windows Mobile 6.5 has a lot of eyecandy in general, but it's not as functional as I'd like it to be right out of the box. I've tried both Photon and Miri roms that come without Manila.
The experience I had with both was "meh".
I'm just going to install Dutty's Final 6.1 ROM and be done with it until I change phones.
Thanks again guys,
Cheers!
Maryone
I am using maryone 230064 manila 2.5 and it is fast and reliable

Totally agree.
In regards to the most stable 6.1 ROM, you are right on with the Dutty 3.9XT. I am on 4.3 because I am a Dutty freak. Haven't tried anyone else so I have no other experiences, but 3.9 XT FINAL is exceptional.

Trend,
Thanks! I'm just a little bummed that Dutty's Magic 8 Ball that was ported from Topaz does not work in Dutty's 4.3 Final.
It just starts up, I get the loading screen, and then it just turns off by itself and I am in Manila once more. I don't know if this is a netframework issue or... I was really looking forward to using HTC's 8 Ball.
Might you know anything about this?
Cheers.

Okay, all excitement over, what is the first thing I should do?

Also, can someone step by step go through how to flash a EnergyROM onto the device later, once I have it?

Thanks man, I've heard so much good about it, but lately there have been so many bugs/problems being discussed on the forums, that I'm slightly scared.
Okay, thanks for the advice, will do. I just was looking at some ROMs, and saw how awesome Energy looked with MaxManilia haha
Hi there! Welcome to XDA Developers
I see your HD2 is arriving soon! Trust me it is SHINY!!!
And you'll love the way the device balances in your hand. Anyways, i'd suggest first of all to learn how to use the phone. Like, familiarise yourself with the layout, play around with the camera, and best of all flow through the Sense UI.
To learn how to flash ROMS, go to the HD2 Rom development section and head into the HSPL Guide there. Everything is mentioned step-by-step. Follow instructions carefully
That said, i'll strongly advice you try out more than one ROM, as each chef has his/her own unique taste and preferances. You're sure to find a ROM that's "just right" for you!
Remember to install Chainfire's HD2 Driver Patch, as that'll make your device run even smoother. Finally, browse through the General forum, and make sure you check out the Tips and Tricks forum, which is a life saver! If you want, also update your phone's Radio Version (found in the ROM Development Section)

I suppose that the cookie mod imitates the iPhone's app screen? Maybe people will be like "My device has 3 UI's in 1: iPhone home which is what the cookie rom seems to do, then there's the WinMo Start button, when you tap that, you get the Program menu...and last but not least...HTC Sense
Plus it gives a more wider base for the HD2 to stand on (if that made Sense)
Mind the pun

Well there are 2 ways of getting the 1.66 Rom, first would be HTC's website, then Support, and go to the ROM update (You'll need to enter some digits found under your phone battery) OR...you can go to the HD2 ROM Development section and then look under the Stock Roms (easier and faster in my opinion than going all the way to HTC's website!)
Ps. EnergyRoms are amazing...you won't know until you try and experiance it for yourself! There are many tweaks etc applied...and it has a cool theme set. You'll also get regular updates

Every comment and the comments from people that had used both 3 are the most apreciated.
i think the best 6.5.5 is 23563
but there are other choice of 6.5.3
there's so many kernels...
and they may form microsoft, may form HTC,SAMSUNG,LG,MOTO.....
just use the most stable and best memory control one i think

I think that would please alot of people.
I think that it also says alot for ffboy's rom, as he has only released it in one language. I have tried them both, and they are great. And a very hard choice just to pick one.
Actually aren't all the current builds relatively close?
I have tried a couple of builds of 6.5.5, and apart from a few bugs in each, they do seem quite similar
If tasks could be delagated, could build turnarounds be faster, more coherent and releases be less confusing?
I think all the work you guys are doing is fantastic, such a big difference to the situation a very short time ago, i am sure i am not alone in almost giving up hope in us ever getting past 6.5
The Perfect Rom
I think you need to wait until the developers will finish their development and post their final 6.5.5 Roms.(stable with no bugs and max Ram)
then it will be the best time to add manila to it.
everybody here behave like addicts....rushing and pushing the developers to post a new Rom after every step....they need to relax for my opinion.its silly to flash all those Roms unless you help testing
wait a few days and you will see.then you will have final releases and you will be able to decide.
I also have an important question.
Will your new manila releases will have landscape mode?

Yes, it's in my opionion the most stable and fastest Sense Rom, that's out until now.
Yes I agree with that but I hesitate between FFBOYv1.0+sense.cab (lot of free RAM) and ARAGn085, which works well with lot of RAM too... I have no problem with Arag ROM and a very few problems with FFBOYBeta2... FFBOYv1.0+sense.cab is a little slower I found than Sense integrated in ROM... But with more RAM! I think it never misses much about FFBoy Rom to be perfect!
My test is launch Skyfire with Sense activated, because it's a very good wen browser but it needs lot of RAM... No very scientific méthod...

Gutted about your phone man, hope its not to bad.
I'm working on the StonROM update aswell so with any luck you'll have a choice of which ROM to flash by then.
Looking good, downloading now. (at the hell speed 19kb/s wtf??)
Welcome back,man.
Wow!
I visited xda only to see if there were any changes to STONROM, as you were talking about some updates after your holiday.. I log in, no updates, sad face, thinking no more stonrom updates for a while. And then check the threads, ..there you are with a very sleek looking, and non-sense based rom! This is a very fresh approach towards Toshiba ROMs! Congratulations for this. Whether your rom works or not, I am a fan!
Only one noob question - it doesn't involve SPB Shell interface or something right? :s
Downloading now, will soon leave comments, feedbacks, suggestions
Thanks a lot for this fresh new rom!

There is no spb, pointUI or WAD or anything of the sort. Host UI is a completely stand alone application, its has no dependencies other than .NET CF. That is the main reason i choose it.
Thanks for the compliments, i was looking to try and fill the gap between clean and sense roms a little as that's all we seem to have albeit in many variations.

Thats very true! I have spent my whole weekend looking for 'alternative UIs' if not ROMs for TG01 and was so disappointed after knowing that TG01 either had to wear SPB, PointUI, WAD, Sense UI or WinMo titanium! Personally I think none of them are effectively using the huge space TG01 has to provide or explore the powerful processor it has within. WM7 interface looks big enough and pretends to atleast use the whole screen! I am downloading it still (blame it on my slowest ever O2 broadband!) but will definitely share some feedbacks. Good job! (I wish I knew how to cook roms etc )

Sense is the only one that tests the TG, but the fact it was designed for a machine with 512Mb of ram is painfully obvious to those with less.
If you do find any other UIs that grab you drop me a PM or post in one of my threads and i'll take a look. Unfortunately if its not a variation on sense or titanium then nobody seems interested in developing. (I wish I knew how to program UIs )

There is this software - Slide UI - which apparently has everything you need to make your own UI! I downloaded a demo yesterday but am not sure if I will be able to use it at all! :s (am naive to making UIs!)
It looks awesome! I have just flashed your new rom! The start up screen is very windows and fresh! I am exploring the options I have with this new ROM now.. So in an hour I will be able to update you with much more feedback!

THE ANIMATION: Awesomely smooth.
THE RECOMMENDATION: More titanium themes? (Cook is way too smaller buttoned, than Classic Blue)
THE AWESOME: Removal of top bar magnifications on home page - I think it's because of HOST. (Those were annoying!)
THE NEW: If not used to HOST, then editing and adding new icons might be tricky for some while.
THE FAVOUR: If you could add a way to change theme of all tiles by single click?
THE NEED: Is it possible to have cabs for Marketplace and Contact Back up please? Have all my contacts on memory card and can't get them restored without this contact backup!
Hello Leeston ... no longer update the rom with sense?

More titanium themes - This rom doesn't have titanium, and the buttons are not controlled by theme, they are controlled by Host.
Haven't seen the magnifications, any chance of a screen shot?
Can't modify Host its not my work, links in the first post though
I'll sort out the cabs when my laptop is up and running, my desktop doesn't like cab manager for some reason. (couple of days)

Yes, update in a day or two.

Sorry!
Stonrom is the best for me!
Switching back. I am more disappointed with Host UI than Rom. Rom is smooth like cream, but Host UI is too laggy and doesn't do much justice. It is not so much customisable either and without the titanium, there is no other choice of home screen selection than boring Win 95 type screen!
I love your innovative ideas though, so keep them coming and I am ready to test all of those for you
