I've been doing plenty of research on the forums and it just appears that the best rom, in terms of stability, function, speed and reliability is the Dutty 3.9 XT. Newer versions have some improvements, but with functional setbacks such as sms problems as in 4.3. The new leo roms look fancy, but again they suffer from speed and functionality also! So as a blackstone user and one to show it off to iphone fans, am I right in saying this is one of the few roms we have which is reasonably fast, stable and functional, without coming across an unexpected hickup and the iphone user wins that round!
theres no such thing as perfect ROM
its very personal to what you want to do with your phone and in what way you want to use it and if you want WM 6.1 or WM 6.5 on it,.. especially not to show off to iphone.. i go with Miri's WM 6.5, for me its my favourite, been with it since the beginning, others might thing otherwise, for what its personal
if you worry about iphone users (kids, girls, non-technology knowers most of all) and they got to the point where they dare compare an iphone to a WinMobile phone is enough for you not to waste ur time trying to get in their limited minds,.. let them show off how awesome the iphone is cause it can take pictures, and they autorotate, and how they can access the internet when they are at a wireless hotspot, and that they can access their top 5 favourite websites cause they have a shortcut of each of them on their phone's homepage, and how they have a shortcut for every single thing on their front page for instant access (now isnt that handy, i bet you we all have out PC's desktop FULL of shortcuts ).. so enjoy your phone buddy
well if u want to show off to iphone users. do go for nrg rom's. there are an eye candy, fast and improving (lesser bugs). try photon range of rom's based on 2.1 by nrg
Guys,
I'm wondering, are any 6.5 ROMs as fast as 6.1 ROMs?
Cheers.

I just tried out Duttythroy's WM6.5+HTC Sence (Manila 2.5) and it was kinda laggy so I went back to Stock ROM WM6.1.

It depends on the rom. Some of the new ones (with higher build number) are sooo slow, laggy and unstable... For me the most stable and fastest rom is from XannyTech. Haven´t had any problem for now (using a week) and it´s almost fast as stock rom.
Guys,
Thanks. I've actually, for the first time today, started flashing! I can see why it's addicting, but it got tedious after 2 hours of playing around. Windows Mobile 6.5 has a lot of eyecandy in general, but it's not as functional as I'd like it to be right out of the box. I've tried both Photon and Miri roms that come without Manila.
The experience I had with both was "meh".
I'm just going to install Dutty's Final 6.1 ROM and be done with it until I change phones.
Thanks again guys,
Cheers!
Maryone
I am using maryone 230064 manila 2.5 and it is fast and reliable

Totally agree.
In regards to the most stable 6.1 ROM, you are right on with the Dutty 3.9XT. I am on 4.3 because I am a Dutty freak. Haven't tried anyone else so I have no other experiences, but 3.9 XT FINAL is exceptional.

Trend,
Is this the same as the one in HTCPEDIA's site? With Dutty's 4.3 Final or something along that lines? Because I used Dutty's 4.3 Final from HTCPedia. Is one better than the other?

It should be the same. It came out about the same time when the transition from XDA to HTCpedia was made.

Trend,
Thanks! I'm just a little bummed that Dutty's Magic 8 Ball that was ported from Topaz does not work in Dutty's 4.3 Final.
It just starts up, I get the loading screen, and then it just turns off by itself and I am in Manila once more. I don't know if this is a netframework issue or... I was really looking forward to using HTC's 8 Ball.
Might you know anything about this?
Cheers.

hey guys, I'm new here and was browsing around and noticed a few options for custom roms. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for my needs. I currently enjoy the htc touch's os with the spb mobile shell minus the lagging. i have a feeling there is a custom rom out there that i will enjoy better. i am looking for much faster performance as first priority and cool gadgets as second. Any suggestions?

I think NFSFAN's roms are the best out there. He has a 6.1 and a 6.5. I don't know if it really speeds WinMo up (it's been a looong time since I ran my stock ROM to compare it to) but it's as fast as I need it to be.
Of course, I don't find myself using WinMo much at all anymore. As you may have noticed, there's a lot of threads here about running Android on the Vogue. You can run it without flashing your phone, and the only thing really missing at the moment is Bluetooth, but that's being worked on.

The Hero builds are cool to use and show off. Although, the full builds tend to run pretty slow on the phone for everyday use. People do use the Lite Hero builds with lots of success.
You could also try mssmision's Rogers build which people have reported liking also.
I would personally recommend using the latest Ion build or one of the Hero themed Ion builds. They run perfectly fast as if it was meant for this phone and are more or less fully stable.
big screen what can i say..
however, recently it is starting to hang...
usually when trying to unlock..
and it became slower..
any idea why?
---
the video and camera belongs to the bin too...
camera has almost 0 functionality and video is choppy and blur...
can tweaks?
thanks buddy
do u have any custom roms on it? i personally expected the performance to be better when i had the stock rom. but then after flashing a while, i love the blackstone.. so try custom roms maybe untill u find one that gives u the performance that u like on it.
i do not have a custom rom.. was afraid of stability /security problems.. do they really make the hd faster?
Yeah really do they make hd faster? If yes which one is the best for normal usage??
The ROM:s here @ xda are the main reason I did not sell/scrap my HD long ago. With stock ROM, I think this unit is slow, ugly and just bad.
Look around, a lot of ROM:s here are sooo much faster than stock. I promise you will never go back.
For the best speed experience, I recommend using a 6.1 ROM with 2.1 Manila. I can not point out any speficic one obvious, take a look in the charts already suplied in the ROM part of this forum.
I am using a win 6.5 ROM for the moment, but speed is a bit lower.
Good luck!

I agree. The stock rom is a piece of Sh*t. After swapping to a custom ROM, you'll never look back. Don't be disheartened if you get one with glitches. Just keep trying different ones until you are happy with one.
The first couple of times it may seem slow and cumbersom changing ROM's but after a while you realise how easy it really is. Just remember to backup important data first.
Good luck

Haha you're a senior member here but you don't get it. Custom roms on XDA is the reason why I choose HTC and windows mobile. I used to hate windows mobile alot, but once I found out about its portability, customizing my phone has been my hobby. Thanks to XDA, the crappy old hermes I had made my friends jealous.
On why folks like these guys here can make a better rom than htc, you have to flash one to find out. I once read an article from mircosoft that reads something like this "microsoft cant live with XDA-devs, but at the same time, can't live without them".
Try one but make sure u follow the steps especially the Olinex part. Good luck

I own WinMo devices since HTC Wallaby. I am not very long with HD, just recently bought it.
My Opinion WinMo is like Windows on your desktop, after while it gets slower and slower and Reformat (hard reset) is the best thing to do to bring it back.
I also would suggest you to use one of the cooked ROMs here. Again my Opinion W6.5 is eye candy and my own experience is that is not that Stable, and fast as WinMo 6.1 ROMs. Furthermore I really don’t see jet the major usability improvement in 6.5
I am business user and I need a very stable Device. I flashed with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537948 very happy with it
hahaha good one bout me being senior..
yes i know .. i just dont understand why the companies themselves dont strive to make the best one lol
and for the rom..
yes buddy i used the same as u ...3.55 but how do i get the usual start menu back..
Again most 6.5 roms are very stable now and are ready for everyday use, if you are after a fast rom that is similar to your default rom, try Topix 2.9.2, it is currently the fastest ROM running 6.1 according to speed tests = Search the forums for performance tests.
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/touch-hd/best-rom-for-htc-touch-hd.html
You will be more than happy flashing the latest 6.5 roms, just make sure you don't get any manila 2.5/2.6 roms as people have previously expressed they are still not as stable as the 2.1 roms.
Research, read and flash which rom you feels best suits your needs, or looks the nbest etc. In the end not everyone has same tastes, so you may find that you flash a few roms before settling on one you really like. By then you will probably have become a flashaholic like everyone else. Either way you'll have a better phone.

Anyone build a rom with wm 6.1 for the HD2 ? What were/are your experiences?
Does sense 2.5 run on wm 6.1?
Wow, I honestly thought this was a misplaced question. I don't know of anyone who goes back and cooks OLDER roms. I'd think there'd be some sort of technical difficulty in getting programs designed for the newer system to work with an older one (though it's not so often the other way around).

I've read some posts from tp2 users who reverted from 6.5 back to 6.1 and they said it was much faster. So as curious as a appelfap can be I asked my self the question how fast 6.1 would be on a HD2?
The question is which OEM base should be used for that (can the multitouch driver be used etc) and which EXT packages will run on it (I guess only sense 2.1)
I'm not sure it can get "much faster" since its already close to "instantly".
With that said 6.1 is absolutely not finger friendly, nor does it support multi-touch-gestures...I'm really not sure anyone has any interest to cook such a rom especially since probably only VERY few people have interest because they want to use a certain app which has compatibility issues on 6.5 or something...
so to be honest, if speed is the only reason...then its not worth it since HD2 is blazing fast as it is right now.
Come on man.. how much faster do you want to go ? LOL
Like [email protected] said.. the HD2 is already INSTANT. 6.1 is a fugly POS compared to what we can do with 6.5 and the HD2 is alll about looking good.

You said it man and in my, and a lot of people's opinion you Absolutely Rule on Looking Good
A very big fan of you NRG
NRG is right, cooks have been developing ROMs for ages and a request like that one is supposed to be weird, at least, just because we're used to looking ahead and not to drawing back.
Apart from this, most of the electrical components have no 6.1 drivers and they could get back an unpredictable reaction............. I think we shouldn't read so much into those matters, but WM is supposed to go ahead........... forever.
Whatever I'm going to try it, just for fun.
I don't think there is an official WM 6.1 ROM or cooked 6.1 ROM. So you cant try it.

Have you ever cooked a ROM? All he has to do is grab a WVGA WM6.1 SYS and XIP and throw it into a kitchen. Only things I can think of that may halt this is the lack of 6.1 drivers (multi touch, etc...) and whether a 6.5 OEMXIPKernel would work with 6.1.

I flashed my HD2 with different variants og energy roms, and they ran pretty fast, but i most admit dutty's is much faster with no errors..
I have used energy roms since the day that i got my HD2 (dec. 09) but decided 2 weeks ago to try something else..
And what a suprise when i tried dutty's
The whole system runs faster, i don't know why, but probably because energy has tweaked and added to much to his roms these days..
Dutty's rom is as close to standard as you can get, but with everything manila wise updated and testet, plus he must have tweaked the system with other things than pagepool, because it runs so much better than the original (and every other rom i have tried)..
I actually flashed his new multilanguage V3.1 today, and i'm not dissapointet!
Try it and you will see what i mean..
If people need another link to download from than htcpedia.com, i have uploaded the danish version to shareonline.dk. But i must point out that i only uploaded the danish version to my site.. So it will probably not be worth anything for most people

Hey all!
Is it at ALL possible to either flash the ROM from the Touch Pro II or find a way to install Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1 onto the HTC HD2? I NEED stability in my ROM and this is what I really want to try.
I know I've been asking a lot of questions on this site regarding this phone, but I want you all to know I truly value your answers and your help.
Thank you guys!
Well have you tried the ROMs that are known to be stable? Theres quite a few..
Also maybe try titanium (windows default) if you're looking for simple, basic stability.
I have. I've tried four or five and they just get to be too slow. I like the Windows Mobile 6.5.5 builds but they just get to be laggy at times, and for a phone with a 1GHz processor I'd expect a whole lot more.
I don't know, I was just wondering what 6.0 or 6.1 would operate like on the HD2. That or find SOMETHING that's very quick and very stable.
Try Dutty's cdlc or UnOff.. What are you using the phone for? (work, eye-candy, both?)
I'm not sure about 6.1, can't see why anyone would want that on this device.
BTW, nice location just a few miles away from me..
Oh WOW! You ARE close to me! Haha, 253! Neat
I really want to use it for multimedia and texting first and foremost. After that I really just want to use it for internet browsing and photo uploading. Well, MMS capabilities are a must too.
After messing around with the ROMs I did, I jusst started to panic about making the wrong choice on the phone. I had hoped I didn't, however I want to take FULL advantage of the processor speed and the RAM. Definitely. Problem is, nothing works! AGH!
I'm currently using UnOff... and texting is still god-awful.
Have you tried Swype? Its a dream to work with once you get to know it. In fact, the reccord for txting was recently broken with Swype! I use Energy rom (The "unstable" 6.5.5 ver) and I do need to reboot the phone about once a week, but thats still a LOT less then my 6.1 Tilt. You really REALLY dont want to go back too 6.1, trust me. The OS does not have a lot of features needed for good use of the hardware in the HD2.
P.S. Woodinville and work in Redmond. Seattlites stick togeather!

Thank you guys for all your help! I'll let you all know what happens.
I would suggest either the Miri 17.6 rom which is very stable and fast and has great eye candy or VBN rom series. I currently running VBN and it's great. Very stable, no crashes, fast. I think you would like either one of them. They are both located on the Euro HD2 rom side, not the TMOUS HD2. Both are compatible with 576 ram and 1gig storage. Check them out.
try kwbr Roms ... I am on 4.0.1 version
Stock like ROMs
CruzerHD rom
What you are looking for is the CruzerHD rom my friend. Super fast, stable, and very very slim on memory (only 35mb used after flash).
Rom is not about eye candy but about speed/performance. You add what you want yourself.
CruzerHD premium rom v.9
Wow, guys, it looks like I have quite a bit of ROMs to try out! I really appreciate your time, y'all rock it!

wow! there are a lot of washingtonians here! my mom and sister were born in WA, and i lived in Lacey for most of my grade school years. I almost became a Husky but decided i'd rather do grad school there and hopefully work for MS someday... Thats the dream anyways...
But, back on topic. I dont believe 6.0/1 is possible because the HD2's HAL is not compatible with with any 6.0 devices. basically, you'd have to re-write all the drivers in the Hardware Abstraction Layer so that they can talk with the 6.0 ROM. its the same reason WinPhone7 will probably never make it to our phones. ya see, there are no "generic" drivers for phones. thats why only phone with similar hardware can share ROMs.
i say use kumars ROM. its my personal fav
Man I know how OP feels, I was looking for a ROM & flashed Energy & it works like a dream! But now that I have Froyo 2.2 on here I hardly ever switch off of Android. It totally lives up to the hype!
Yeah WA!
I feel that a lot of the custom Roms have too much, well, customization. What you need is the barebones. Check this one out. Been using it since June and I have't had any slowdowns yet.
