[unresolved] Copy entire contents of device storage to windows hard drive? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Is it possible? The easy solution would be exploring files from windows mobile device center but i think it's not possible to explore inside \windows from the desktop.

yes it is.
in Windows 7 open explorer, click "organize", then "folder and search options" , click tab View then check "show hidden files and folders " , then uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and there you go !
unplug device and plug it again either in activesync or disc drive mode.

that doesn't work, i got loads of errors "the process cannot access the file because it's being used by another process"

Maybe try to copy to SD Card first and then to your PC.

Yes, try JR_de's method also ! other possibility is to work in the Windows safe mode.Or try some Linux live editions then transfer files.Note that files in \windows folder are marked as "read only" , so you need to uncheck it.And do not copy files on desktop...use new folder in one of your computer partitions.
Did you see what processes are blocking ?

It's not as simple as that since it's the phone stopping the copy no matter what OS you use the phone will not comply, try and copy files even to SD you will get this, just the same as on a PC try deleting something in use "locked file"
Same reason why we use ROM Extractor to take ROM files since you can't just copy.

so i should be able to do it using ROM extractor? can it take all device storage files or is it just for ROM files?

Just single files.
I'm not sure what you trying to do but it may just be easier to dump a ROM, why do you need all files?

Installing separate files...

Hi there, I'm having trouble installing programs that seem to come in loads of separate files. One of them is an XML file and the rest seem to be unopenable/unrecognisable by windows.
Can anyone give me advice on how to install these onto my MPV3100. I've search for Install help but there doesn't seem to be anything specific on how to do it.
Thanks.

I can't be sure but it sounds like you have decompressed a .cab file on your PC before trying to place it on your device. If so that's not the way to do it.
There are in general threetypes of programme/files you can download for WM5
1. ,cab files
2. .exe files
3. .zip files
.cab files you place directly on the device by connecting via active sync using the Explore button on the PC active sync screen. If you have a storage card inserted navigate to that and drop them in there. To run a Cab file just click on it on your device.
.exe files in the main you run on your PC whilst connected via active sync. The programme will automatically instal the programme on the device. Keep an eye on the device there maybe some taps you have to make.
.Zip files in general you extract these on the PC and then you'll see if they are .cabs or .exes and then treat them as above.
Most programmes will then show up under the Start>Programmes listing on the device and you run them from there. Some though may not especially if you chose to install them to storage card. In which case use file explorer programme to navigate to them.
Ultimately you'll want a programme that allows you to create short cuts to them probably on the desktop screen.
Hope this helps

can't transfer files from device to pc

Someone can help me? I have Tom_B_B_v4[2].0_TouchFlo_Professional installed on my Artemis, and activesync 4.5 on laptop.
Is impossible to transfer files from device to laptop. It is possible only from laptop to Artemis. What can i do?
Many thanks!
if the files are located in the my doc dir then they should be mirroed onto the
my pda documents inside the my documents on the pc
otherwise one can use explore device
in activesync on the pc and copy the cab file
and paste it where one would wish on the pc
does'nt works.
Does'n work. This is the problem: if I try to copy a file (for example a Mp3) located everywere (internal or sd memory) in the pda, and paste in the laptop (desktop or folder), it seems than start copying file, but really does'nt.
(Sorry for my english)

I think is a problem of activesync 4.5. I read the guide online and in "transfer files" is written "does'nt work with all devices" (is written in Italian, I think this is the traslation)
solved?
I solved temporarily in this way:
On Activesync activate tranfer files, automatically create on desktop folder "my documents" where is possible manage files.
Then I installed "cardexport-wm5" on device. With this program is possible to switch usb connection to Actyvesinc or Cardexport; in this case the memory card is recognized by PC like an external USB drive. Is'nt so easy, but I do'nt realize still better.
However, I'm looking for a solution for this problem, and I am available to share my experiences, in this moment I think that is a bug of activesync 4.5. So, ask for administrators if possible open a topic for this problem.

Hey mate.. I was going nuts having this same problem until I found this setting in Folder Options: 'Hide protected operating system files'
Make sure this is turned off and you should be able to view it fine.
Hi, I am searching everywhere for an answer to this problem, I have changed everything in tools/folder options to show protected files but still cannot access the windows folder on a Trinity. (i know this is a Blackstone section but this is where I found the existing thread)
I am using XP, this is really baking my noodle, help please?
if you are doing it via the active syncsiupplied with the phone be patient.
when i click to open the folder it takes a while before it opens up.
could give that a go as i thought it didn't work either.
Thanks I found how to do it, my copy of Windows was missing a required dll, am able to see all files now and problem solved.
I checked all the correct settings in folder options but they kept reverting to hidden, so if this is happening to you on XP do this;
RUN;
CMD;
regsvr32 /ishell.dll

how can i access the windows folder of my phone?

Hi I am trying to install sqlce3.5 on a rom which dosen't have cf2.0 (cabs don't work) so I was thinking of manually copying the dll files to the windows folder to see what happens but I cant figure out how to access the windows folder from my pc (windows 7 RC if that matters) any ideas?
Via active sync choose the 'explore' options under 'tools' then a window will pop up. The default directory will be your documents folder what you need to do is go up one directory which will then be your device's root folder. Then from there you'll see the windows folder.
on windows 7 you have to use device manager and when i choose browse device it take to me choose either phone memory or memory card, if i choose phones memory the windows folder is not present and it cannot be seen even if i choose show hidden folders.
any ideas?
After device has sync'ed with pc, just open up your file explorer on your pc. Open 'My Computer' and then scroll down to 'Mobile Device'. If you expand this you should be presented with a list. Open 'My Windows Mobile-Based Device' and scroll down to 'Windows'
Thats the problem I am having I can get to the root just fine but when I am there the windows folder is not present like it is hidden, using view hidden folders dosen't help and typing in the path gets an error message saying it does not exist. I wanted to do this through windows but i suppose I will have to do it through the phones browser instead.

Open your file explorer on your pc, go to Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' is unticked
Other than this I'm not sure why its not showing

Where is the windows folder?

I wanted to move some programs to the start folder, so everyone says drag it into the windows>..... folder, but I cant see the windows folder when browsing on my pc, Ive got show hidden file&folders enabled but still no luck
The Windows folder doesn't show up via ActiveSync.
If the files are on your PC you need to first dump them in a folder on your phone that you can see on the computer, then on your phone copy those files over to \Windows.

And then find windows with something with rescoexplorer?
Sure, you can use Resco but the standard file explorer will work too unless you are trying to overwrite protected system files.

Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
