Where is the windows folder? - HD2 General

I wanted to move some programs to the start folder, so everyone says drag it into the windows>..... folder, but I cant see the windows folder when browsing on my pc, Ive got show hidden file&folders enabled but still no luck

The Windows folder doesn't show up via ActiveSync.
If the files are on your PC you need to first dump them in a folder on your phone that you can see on the computer, then on your phone copy those files over to \Windows.

And then find windows with something with rescoexplorer?

Sure, you can use Resco but the standard file explorer will work too unless you are trying to overwrite protected system files.

is there no way to get the windows folder to show?? seems to be a real drag if you cant access it via WMDC or AS...

Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
this is not the "Show hidden files and folders" setting..

isn't enough just expanding you winmob device in vista's explorer?
i expanded everything and i still dont see the windows folder, however i see it on my xp, when i connect it to my desktop
My guess is something like a "do not show hidden or system files" or something like that in your windows explorer options.
Yes i have the same issue. The issue isnt that the folder is "Missig" but it is hidden when browsing through windows. You should get resco's file explorer or similar explorer and try editing the properties of windows folder "unhide"...
but the easier way to copy stuff to windows folder is to just Create a junk folder on your storage card and copy your files into that folder..Then using the Resco's File Manager or similar, copy those files into the windows folder.
While u are at that screen making invisible files visible....make sure to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" as well. voila there is ur windows folder..

How to overide \windows\ access protected files?

I know people use total commander but I have no idea how to use it. Is there an easier way? Or can someone explain to me how to use it to copy over some files to my \windows\ folder?

Just use Resco Explorer. It's not freeware but is a great application with the ability to overwrite protected files and has many settings to play with.

Select the file you want... Click file... Select Copy/Move... Click Tree to select where you want to drop the file.
I found this at this page, and it works for me about 90% of the time.
Download EnableRAPI and extract all files from the zip archive.
Double click on EnableRAPI.bat and leave the DOS window it launches open
Open Folder Options and choose to "Show hidden files and folders" and de-select the "Hide protected operating system files" option.
On Windows XP, this would be done by launching Windows Explorer and clicking on Tools --> Folder Options and then the View tab.
On Windows Vista, this would be done by going to Folder Options from the Control Panel and then clicking on the View tab.
Connect your device to your PC using ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista).
Browse the device's file system using the File Manager tool in ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
When you have finished making all of your modifications, close the EnableRAPI DOS window.
I'm not sure what this actually does, though, or why it works.

I tried that, it doesn't work. I'm using a Blackjack II running WM6.1. Does anybody know why it doesn't work and how to copy files into the windows directory?

You are posting in the wrong forums. However, your question is rather generic. I find it best to use either Resco Explorer or TotalCommander (as well as ActiveSync of course).

SMS and Mail ound files

I wonder where the sound files that can be selected for SMS and Mail sound are located. There are a lot in the list but can't find them in any folder.
I want to add new sounds and need to know where to place them. Thanx.

Ringtones go in /my documents/my ringtones
SMS and mail go in /windows, you probably can't find any 'cos you're using the in built and very bad file explorer.
Try total commander (lots of cabs and a website so search for it) it's freeware and superb to let you really see what's on your device..
I placed both of mine in My Documents and they work fine...
Thanks for the information.
I installed TC and now I see Windows folder.
I have TC on PC (Windows Visat) too and it doesn't show the phone at all. But I see limited folders on Windows Explorer. Is there any setting or another program to use on PC to see ALL folders. Thanks.

In windows explorer:
Tools > Folder options > make sure to check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide protected files"
you'll be able to acces the phone's windows folder in your windows explorer

how can i access the windows folder of my phone?

Hi I am trying to install sqlce3.5 on a rom which dosen't have cf2.0 (cabs don't work) so I was thinking of manually copying the dll files to the windows folder to see what happens but I cant figure out how to access the windows folder from my pc (windows 7 RC if that matters) any ideas?
Via active sync choose the 'explore' options under 'tools' then a window will pop up. The default directory will be your documents folder what you need to do is go up one directory which will then be your device's root folder. Then from there you'll see the windows folder.
on windows 7 you have to use device manager and when i choose browse device it take to me choose either phone memory or memory card, if i choose phones memory the windows folder is not present and it cannot be seen even if i choose show hidden folders.
any ideas?
After device has sync'ed with pc, just open up your file explorer on your pc. Open 'My Computer' and then scroll down to 'Mobile Device'. If you expand this you should be presented with a list. Open 'My Windows Mobile-Based Device' and scroll down to 'Windows'
Thats the problem I am having I can get to the root just fine but when I am there the windows folder is not present like it is hidden, using view hidden folders dosen't help and typing in the path gets an error message saying it does not exist. I wanted to do this through windows but i suppose I will have to do it through the phones browser instead.

Open your file explorer on your pc, go to Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' is unticked
Other than this I'm not sure why its not showing

Windows folder on device with WMDC?

I am trying to put a shortcut in Start menu on the device while conected via active sync with Windows Mobile Device Centre but the windows folder does not show up. Can someone tell me how to get to windows folder please.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.......
no one know?
You will need to show all hidden files and folders and all protected OS files on your PC. You can do this in the Organise>Folders and Search options (in windows 7) In Vista i cant remember off hand.
Merry Xmas
I noticed exactly the same thing today! I don't know how to solve this or if it can be solved
But don't worry, you are not the only person. I can only view the windows folder from the device file explorer
I have exactly the same problem. I need access to this folder to do some cleaning up. The chore is too cumbursome on the phone. I really need to know how to access this folder on my computer. Anyone?
Open up file explorer on your pc, and browse to your phones windows folder, then press alt, and a set of menus will appear along the top of the window, click tools - folder options - move to the 'view' tab, scroll down the list and check 'show hidden files folders and drives', then scroll a little further and untick hide protected operating system files.
The phones windows folder should then be visible.
