sry if already posted, thought some might enjoy.

I posted this early this morning...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=635589

how sweet would it be if sprint came out of nowhere and just through a huge smack down.

I can already see 1000 threads on how to get better battery life with this device. Its hard to get good battery life running on the 3G network without tweaking the hell out of a phone.

Battery-Is it me or the crack?

So yeah, I smoke too much crack, but am I dreaming that my battery life has diminished since the flash to the latest Tmo ROM or are other people getting this too?
Yes, I have done a search and I see a smatterng of posts here and there and no I did not take a baseline, but I thought to get some opinions.
It takes a couple of days (for the radio in particular) to settle in. I'd be willing to be that after a few battery cycles, you'll be back to normal again.... errr.... well, you might not be, if you were really on crack, but your phone should be normal again.
I hope after a couple of days mine gets better...it drains a lot faster now.

you could always try different radios and see which one works better for you as far a battery life goes. If you're not going to use your 3g for a while just turn it off, and that will extend your battery life by a lot. 3g eats battery real fast.
Ditto for me!
I am definitely running into the same issue and am seriously considering rolling back unless the stupid radio settles down soon. Is there a way to roll back to the previous ROM? The only major advantage the new ROM has for me is the updated SWYPE keyboard...
I am in an office for a good part of the day where I get mostly E and sometimes G. I notice that it drains the fastest when I am connected to my Wifi Network.
That may seem normal, but I swear that it is draining faster than with the last ROM.
Mind you, I was one who had virtually no issues with th last ROM save for the pink spot in the pictures.
Last nigt I tried to play a game as a test...low energy consumption-Yacht II (Yahtzee basically). At the end of each game which took about 1.5 minutes I lost 1-2 full percent of the battery. That seems excessive.
....so I smoked some crack.

lol.... Time flies when you're smoking crack! That might have something to do with it.... could just be your perception. Crack make you paranoid! Judgement also sucks when you're cracked out.
Try sobering up for a day or 2, do some battery tests, flash back to the older rom, do some tests with that one. Then you'll know for sure... then smoke some more crack and let us know the results. lol
Back to normal battery life, finally!
Ever since I upgraded to CHT 1.8, my battery life has gone back to normal. I guess the updated TMo Rom didn't play very nicely with CHT 1.7.1.

Battery massive improvement after update?

I posted this on another forum... and got some positive feedback.
The update just miraculously increased my battery life tenfold!
I am 7 hours 12 minutes in and I am at 80% (using the battery indicator provided in settings, not by battery widget). I unrooted to install the update (yet it feels like I still have Herver's ROM). Brightness at 50%.
I didn't use the phone that much today (I had class), but I used it inbetween breaks and whatnot. I guess pretty light usage.
I think the update messed with the radio/wifi performance.
What about you guys?
Edit: I know people have gotten 20+ hours with ROMS, but this is without one.
Hopefully ROMS increase the battery life even more.

Hi patelkedar,
I can't speak for everyone, but according to myself and other users that have responded to my post battery life improvement has been absolutely astounding as of this update.
Blah. Sorry for double thread.
Search didn't go so well I guess.
Anyway, seems like everyone has seen major improvement.
Totally agree. My battery life has improved vastly. I came from fresh 0.3 and EvolutionX. I had excellent battery life with both of those roms too. But I unrooted to give htc a shot at stock again and I am happy. Phone has been off charger since 7:30am and it's now 3:05pm, with moderate usage and on wifi i'm at 78%. I don't know what I would do without my EVO. I love this damn device.
My battery life is phenomenal with the stock update. I was one of the ones who took the plunge and lost the ability to root for the time being but its performing so well I really don't care. They made everything run better and the battery was just a bonus.
unevoked not working after 1.4xxx update
I uninstalled the superpermissions and unrevoked before updating. now it will not root obviously. tried to install setcpu and various other programs but will not work. this sucks.. i see no difference in battery life or speed....a lot of people think an update is a good thing sometimes, but it is not. HTC should just release froyo 2.2
Pretty much if you have alot of Facebook friends the battery life savings will be huge with this update, also if you use a Flickr account battery savings will be huge, it seems they fixed the issue with Flickr causing 100% awake time as well but didn't mention it...crossing my fingers anyway, so far haven't run into the issue after resetting up my Flickr Account.
P.S. The update seems very much worth losing root for now as it seems to have fixed many things not metnioned and some functions are way faster now, going to manage applications loads in 2-3 seconds now versus 10-20 before etc... There seem to be alot of fixes not mentioned.
You guys mind posting your settings?
I'm at 9 hours and 40 minutes with exactly 50% battery remaining, but I haven't been using the phone like crazy. Some light web use and decent amount of texting all throughout the day. This is not an improvement from the pre-update era. Pretty much the same

HTC has released it already. It's Sprint now that has to smooth it over and make sure that it is compatible with their stock applications before releasing it to the masses.

Correction: Google has released it already. HTC + Sprint need to smooth it over and make sure that it is compatible with their stock applications before releasing it to the masses.
Phone also all around seems smoother in the sense UI especially. I'm enjoying my EVO again and actually using it as a cell phone now instead of a super-rapid-fire-rom-flashing addiction-device. Sometimes I forget that my cell phone is a cell phone and not a netbook (yet) lol. Cheers to HTC for the update!

Ditto. I don't miss the custom ROMs, honestly. I haven't had a single FC since this ROM launched and the device feels much smoother and faster.

How much root is too much?

I've been enjoying the Froyo ROM extravaganza since the .3 releases went out a while back. This board a great resource for customizing the EVO and the people here are terribly smart (Flipz, Netarchy, Cyan, et.al).
However, with the sheer volume of ROM releases coming out lately, I found myself installing a new ROM before I went to bed at night, doing it again at breakfast, maybe another time while waiting in line to get food on my lunch break and the list goes on.
For me, too much of a good thing was, well, too much. I ended up carrying my old Blackberry Bold2 for calls because the HTC was likely being rebooted for some reason or another.
From my perspective, I was using the phone as a test bed more than for the reason I purchased it... as smart phone
This morning, I decided to revert to stock and install the 2.2 OTA. No more fun for me, at least for a while.
I'm not sure why I'm posting this other than to say this board is insanely addictive. Good work from all the contributors, but watch yourself. You can spend more time tweaking the device than actually using it.
Good luck to all and I'll be watching for the 2.2 root, but take your time. I've got some work to do!
I was doing the same. But really, that's what makes it so fun. I do however, keep a nandroid backup of my daily driver just to make playing with new roms even easier
Your right but I'm addicted to flashing also....
So am I. I think I am heading back to stock for now. Too much too fast..
P.S. - We sound like babies.
He's on that crack... Be glad you aren't using a ROM with nightlies on ROM Manager!

oh dude, i totally know what you're saying. i get my nightly hits with cm6... it's just too addicting. i flash at night, test during the day, show off in the afternoon, play with it more in the evening, flash at night, rinse and repeat.
LOL, your story is so true! I couldn't believe how addictive flashing is until I read this thread. At first I thought it was just me and my addiction, well, what do you know?!!! lol.
One thing though. Never ever in a million would I go back to stock and possibly loose root for god knows how long, but that just me.
Good luck to you my friend and hope you'll be back in this flashing game shortly.

I totally understand. I did the same thing as you. I just installed a slightly modified 2.2 OTA that gets 45mflops and 3 days of standby. If you're going to quit now, at least flash to this for your daily:

In all seriousness i was going crazy too and my gf was going to murder me. I'm using netarchy's rom (burnt droid) which is basically just a stripped down OTA with a modified dalvik. I've been on this single rom for a record 5 days and i'm very happy with it. I will need to see some pretty convincing evidence before i move to something else.
Ah it does get addicting...
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using XDA app.
I have to say that I too was starting to feel like an addict..
However, a strange bit of luck changed my habits.. I normally plug my evo in to charge every night before sleeping.. and unplug in the morning.. normally around 8 hours of charging, even when the phone really doesn't need a charge..
So the other night I didn't plug it in (the phone was at pretty close to 100% when I went to bed) and 10 hours later (nothing but cell stand by) it dropped less than 10%..
This was using AVA's V3A and SetCpu with a profile that includes screen off : set cpu 245mhz.
So the next day I got up and was pretty surprised, left the charger off and made it throughout most of the day of light usage with awesome results.. It occurred to me, what else do I need? Why swap for another ROM.. I got everything I need.. 4g, Camera, BT etc.. and awesome battery..
Now the only thing that will make me change is if AVA's evolution V10 comes out.. then I might pick up the ROM pipe and take another hit.
ROM's is about getting a near perfect experience.. sooner or later we're gonna hit as good as its going to get the question is when will that happen? For me? I'm pretty damn close..

LOL Classic! I'm right there with you. See you at the meeting.
I decided to stick with EViO from Calkulin for at least a month and resist the urge to try every new thing that pops up. One major upside to sticking with one ROM, stock or otherwise is increased battery life. Definite improvement having stuck with one ROM for the past five days. It gives your EVO a chance to calibrate the battery properly and the consistency helps no doubt about it. I've seen about a 12-13% gain simply by wiping the stats, cycling a couple of times and then just using the phone.
I know, novel concept, actually using the phone. I was really getting sick of all the posts about the 59 and 64 and 120,000 hour stand-by times. That's like bragging about how long your new Ferrari can sit in the driveway before all the gas evaporates. Ooh, ahh.
I'd rather see how far I can get pushing my EVO to the limit. How much real world use can I get out of a charge. 5-6 hours? That's about what I got on my last six Blackberries. 7? That's what I pulled on my jailbroken iPharce. If I can grab 15.25 hours like I did the last charge, I am ecstatic AND I get to actually enjoy my beast of a phone.
Plus squeezing every last drop of juice out of this thing every few days gives me a replacement fix for my new ROM jonze!

Dammit! I got suckered. Tucking in my denim shirt as I type this. Very nice move.
Ahhh, I was in the same boat as you guys......until I found the love of my life, and I forgot about all things and focused all of my attention on her. We've been together for only a week or so, but I think we may be in it for the long run. Her name? Oh, it's Baked Snack.
I will say though, that I have done some things that I'm not ashamed of. My ex, Cyanogenmod 6, just popped back into my life randomly one day. I don't know what it is, but she gets even more attractive every single day. I just couldn't resist my urges, and, well, you know what I did. I just don't know what I'd do without them both. The choices!!!!!
Edit: Oh, and did everybody see the google press release for Gingerbread a few hours ago? Check it out here.

just switched from a droid x

.... and i gotta say im LOVING it . Im up , rooted , custom rom and theme in less than an hour . The screen is AMAZING . Never realized how washed out my X looked . Just wanted to say hello , and hopefully we can share some good times together
Ya i was close to chooseing a x myself but at teh end this had a better screen and faster hardware plus imo a better form factor. Enjoy the phone things will heat up soon after 2.2 gets released.
Same here. Wanted the X because it had better accessories (at the time) and was, well....bigger.
The downside, of course, was that otorola being dickish about the bootloader.
The Fascinate pretty much made up my mind the moment it hit the shelves. The downside being Samsung's notorious penchant for delayed or non-existent updates...
yeah , but im pretty confident we will get that update this month (or maybe optimistic is a better word). And i know the devs will have it to us in roms just as soon as they can. A much smaller community for fascinate users so far ,got to tell the droid x forum goodbye haha
Quick uestion you guys might have an answer to without swimming through threads. After installing superpower on my DX , my battery life was AMAZING . like heavy usage from noon to four in the morning got me down to like 40%. This battery is larger , and i have superpower installed again... and just lost 20% in an hour....while sitting and watching Dexter haha .
Any secret tips or anything?
My experience is there's too much mumbo jumbo in getting the most out of a battery. I will say my initial experience with my Fascinate's battery life was borderline poor. I was generally charging my battery twice a day with what I considered moderate use. It felt like 2 hours of heavy use could finish me right off - low battery warning at night would mean a dead phone in the morning. The monitor was reporting my display was eating 80% of my battery life, and it felt like just looking at the thing would tick down my indicator by 10%,
Anyway, I [hope] I figured out where I went wrong the first time. My instinct when I got the phone, which I received activated with battery in, was to use it as little as possible until I could get it on a charger. I think this was the exact opposite of what I should have done, and cumy battery experience nearly in half.
To remedy this, I ran my battery down to completely dead, ignoring all the warnings until it actually kicked out. After that, I charged the phone (which takes about 3 hours on the AC charger) and then left it charging overnight. In my case I did this with the phone off and the battery icon displayed.
[I read that you want about two hours of overcharging -- but please do it in a cool place, letting your battery get too warm will cause it to oxidize faster, speeding the permanent damage that lowers the cieling output on LiOn batteries.]
The thinking here is that the battery system itself isn't very intelligent. It doesn't know the exact point where the battery will run out, nor is it necessarily certain when the battery is fully charged. It's recommended that once a month you fully power cycle the battery to retrain the system to understand what its limits are.
That was it. Now I get what I consider to be acceptable battery life. My display tends to eat about 50% of my battery life over a day, and I can actually use the phone without watching the battery tick down. I only tend to get a day of use, but I could push it to two or maybe three if I weren't so addicted to the thing.
I am not using any battery apps except for the Touchwiz task manager widget on my home screen.
Interesting , i have heard that approch before for my dx but didnt think it could possibly work. Now that i have heard it twice i will definitely give it a try . Its kinda funny that the thing that is so beautiful ( the screen ) is the death of me ... but isnt that always the case?? haha . Ill give it a whirl and report back . Thanks Soba .

yeah man , it made since . i worked at radioshack several years ago , and we told people to let their rechargeable batteries run all the way down before they recharged , unless they were nicad.
but just for the record this method ABSOLUTELY WORKS . from 11am to now 7:20pm , with moderate usage , im now at 75%. Thats pretty damn acceptable if you ask me . haha.
thanks a lot for the step by step , and would suggest you make a thread on it . Because if you do it step for step , it works like a champ .Thanks again .

Insanely improved battery life in dk28

So i flashed the stock leak to 2 of my coworkers phones a few days ago and their battery life went up BIG TIME..now i flashed it to mine + installed EE.
last night when i got home from the bar and passed out i left go chat running all night and when i woke up my battery was at 75% - with go chat running for 8 hours. normally my phone would be dead. Im really, really impressed with the improvements in the DK28..
Anyone else seeing similar results?
Why not post in the EE thread?!
What's EE when I was on dk28 my 3g radio was trying to upload constantly and killed my battery in record time. So I'm not running it anymore only because of that. If this EE thing can bring my battery life back to normal I'll gladly give dk28 another try.

I'm surprised theres no sticker for a guideline on what to post on Development, though I guess common sense is supposed to be a factor.

I have noticed the exact opposite w/ DK28... I was running DK05 before and had great battery life, now w/ DK28 its back to just a hair better than it was Stock.
Although this is in the wrong section I also noticed much better battery life with DK28.

I have had much better battery life as well. No where near the advertised specs but significantly better than DI18.
can a mod plz move this so i can stop spamming this forum?
LOL. I'm definitely not seeing these results.
My battery life lasts me pretty much most of the day off the charger with some heavy use here and there and I'm still on DK17 ViperROM 2.6 with auto brightness on and a few widgets/notifications every 3-4 hours.
Does your gps work going that way? And if its much better battery life ill have to try doing it. As for those saying it is spamming, it may be but instead of trying to act like you have power actually contribute to the thread.
There are so many threads like this. Can we get a mod up in here?

Epic Experience.....a rom.
With DK28 and EE I have had 26 hours of battery life, the first time I have had over 15 hours ever with my Epic. I am honestly comfortable walking a round without worrying about where I can plug my charger in at.
Threads like these (including their responses) are why post count doesn't matter.
Please post questions in General section.
